Friends and I were looking for a super-simple, laid-back way to kayak/canoe down the Cahaba one…read moreSaturday afternoon (minimal fuss with coordinating boats/rides, etc but maximal river time) . Canoe the Cahaba was the closest option to downtown Birmingham and offered two routes- 5.0 and 9.9 miles. We elected to do the longer 9.9 mile trip and were not disappointed. Their business model is pretty simple: they offer parking and a shuttle -boats in tow- to the appropriate put-in for your trip. Life vests, paddles and boats are all included and are in good working order. The paddle is easy, rapid-free so even novice outdoors-people will feel comfortable. Our 9.9 mile trip took about 6.5 hours with copious down time picnicking, swimming and rock skipping. We had a really brilliant time and look forward to using this outfitter again. The only caveat keeping this place from 5-stars is the too-casual way in which appointments are made. The number provided is someone's cell phone number and the communication is super casual. We ended up waiting over an hour past our reservation time on the day-of because the guy (possibly the only employee) was held up with a larger group... it would have been nice to sleep in or snag some breakfast if we had known he was going to be behind but 15 minutes turned into 60 without any fanfare. Nonetheless, a great opportunity for canoeing/kayaking in relatively close proximity to downtown.

We drove from St. Louis, MO to Lake Martin in AL to pick up our new to us Cobalt. The kicker was…read morethat it did not have a trailer. The search for a trailer to fit our boat became priority numero uno. Now, the question: to buy one in MO and trailer it the 9 hrs down to Lake Martin or find a trailer along the way? I started to call around for price and availability. If the price was right, the availability wasn't or vice versa. Ok...Rambo Marine in Westover appears to be a Cobalt dealer. I get Zach on the phone: Zach: "yea, we got one that will fit that boat." Me: "For a 2015 Cobalt R5?" Zach: "Yea! I believe it's a XXX##### model. We got one that should fit it just fine. It's about [price]" Me: "I'll see you in 2 weeks!" In those two weeks Zach was patient with and responsive to my questions and my bank's needs (which was a lot). When we arrived on a Friday morning, there the trailer was in the parking lot. Ready to go. There was Zach...putting on the guide posts. We talk, complete some paperwork, I buy a trailer light adapter and an "O" for my missing "O" in COBALT one one side of the boat, and we're on our way to Lake Martin. While the lake marina was nice and put the boat on the trailer for us, the fit on the bow stop was not quite right and I didn't have a deep enough 3/4" socket to fix the issue. So, here we go reaching back out to Zach: Me: [texts photo] "Here's our situation." Zach: "Bring 'er back on up here, we'll fix it." Me: "On our way!" Bada-bing-bada-bang-bada-boom...FIXED. boat sits on the trailer like a glove. Because we were staying in a hotel, I asked Zach if we could possibly leave our boat on their lot and pick it up the next morning before our drive back. "I don't see a problem with that." Really? Cool! So, we leave the boat on the trailer behind a locked gate. Longer story short...Zach and all the folks at Rambo were amazing. They are personable, extroverted, ready to help, and/or just talk boats. If we lived in AL, these are the people who would earn my regular business. Check these guys out! Great people and customer service. Awesome boats!

I could not imagine ever having the wedding anywhere else. I was so pleased with the service and it made life really easy to have everything in one place. He worked with the caterer, the cake delivery folks and the DJ to make sure everything was set up perfectly. All of my guests loved the venue! We had such a good time we didn't realize that we were already back to the dock at the end of the night. Highly recommend this location for a wedding and bonus you can keep your wedding small to medium size so you can invite the folks that mean the most to you. Thanks, Craig!! You are the best!

Checked into my hotel and crash. A couple days later saw the Belle lit up from my hotel room. Called up the captain and he said the boat isn't running but his bar was open until 9. We dashed through the pouring rain and down to the river from the Indigo and got on board. Captain Dobson was very welcoming. Made us a drink and talked to us for a long time about the Belle and the history of the town and the state of Alabama. He stayed an extra half hour chatting with us. Great guy. I'll be sure to make it for a cruise next time.
