I went to look at this facility for fitness classes and weight room. so dirty and equipment rusted with pieces of fabric missing fro machines. I got on the leg press and got black sticky stuff on my hands. dust was hanging from the high ledges. Cycle bikes were rusted and two were broken. I have been a fitness instructor and certified personal trainer for over 35 years. This is the worst facility I have ever been in. Dark and dirtry, this place the worst. read more

We toured to see if this place might be good for us since we live close. We were not impressed with the atmosphere in the athletic areas. There was no music playing anywhere, you could hear a pin drop. The restaurant was nice and the employees were very nice. But this place needs a facelift. read more

Overall this is the worst athletic club I've ever been a part of. The locker rooms are clearly neglected. The workers go against their own policy and will act stubborn towards you when you've proven them wrong. It's happened to me on multiple occasions. Plus, 90% of the employees are either jerks, stoned, or most of the time both. Not to mention the gym is a joke. read more

I've been a member many years, Ratings depends on your focus, locker room is functional with steam room and sauna, but are outdated and so so maintained. Weight room is ok. Decent workout rooms for spinning and large enough mirrored classroom for classes. Main glasshouse pool good and usually not too crowded to swim laps. Outdoor pool great for kids in summer. The best thing here are tennis/pickle courts and instructors. Restaurant, food good-excellent and rarely have to wait, prime rib on Fri, Sat. Overlooked by public probably because attached to private club. 1/2 of restaurant overlooks tennis courts and nondescript, bar area has more homey feeling and owner very often there. read more

I enjoy this gym overall. It offers a lot of amenities for free and if you need daycare or you want to use a pool, or you want have a tennis court, it's available. This is a great gym for the money, but, it may be a tad expensive for some people, but that's just weeds out people who don't have what it takes to get there anyway. read more

This place is abysmal, the only good thing is the staff is friendly, as for the other members tho??????? Completely rude and disgusting! I've never had so many naked old men in one place and have it not be called a lemon party, then the same old men look down on you as if you don't belong there. This place outdated and need of a major facelift. It's about 30 yrs out of its element. My kids take the tennis lessons here. The coaches are great! They allow non members to take classes for a price above member pricing, which I don't mind since its close to home. read more

In Nov/Dec of 2014, my 16 yr old daughter worked two banquets as temp help, they kept "forgetting" to pay her, or kept "mailing" out her pay. She worked hard, along with several of her sibs who did get paid...eventually, she worked so hard that her feet were swollen for working tens hours without a break. She was accosted by drunks, made to pick up alcoholic drinks and had to be around druggy employees, including the manager, who were constantly taking drug breaks! The manager was actually complaining that someone stole her DIME BAG!!! My daughter didn't even know what that was!!! The owner Forrest, would never respond, instead they all stole from this young girl. Drugged up thieves! read more

I currently belong to a different gym in Lake Orion, but thought since I live in Clarkston I should really give Deer Lake a try. So I just called there at 5:00 today to inquire about a membership. The girl answered the phone and I explained I had some questions about a membership and wanted to speak with someone, she said "I'm kind of busy right now can you call back in 5 to 10 minutes". Really....... who trained her on customer service? I was so shocked I didn't even know how to answer her. I totally understand it might not have been the best time for her, but how about "can I get your number and call you back in 5 minutes", or "I would love to help you, can you please hold for a few minutes". I guess I'll be staying with my current gym. Thanks for making that decision easy. read more

I've been going here for my entire life, my sister and I worked here, My mom and uncle went here for their whole lives and worked here, and my grandparents have been going here ever since it opened. I always love the food and drinks. The breadsticks are what I always look forward to. We know that we will always get great service because we know the servers, the manager and the owner. But apart from that, you would get great service anyway. It is a great place to have family dinners and anniversary parties, and usually the banquets are very good. I've only had one unfortunate banquet experience, but it that was a rare occurrence. I would recommended that everyone try going here at least once or twice. I've always loved it here and I plan on going here for as long as I can. read more

This place is 20-30 years out of date. By up to this point the glasshouse pool needs to be drained and cleaned properly--it's all stained on the bottom. The roof also leaks on your head during the winter, dripping in many places which is gross if you ask me. The staff here however are really friendly and the food is pretty good! I have only had good experiences at their restaurant as far as service and decent food. However as far as an athletic club experience, it's terrible. The locker rooms are smelly and small (bad combo), the overall building feels dark and old inside, especially the weight room area. Although they have a few new(ish) machines, the room remains long, narrow and limited in space, equipment and lighting. They only appeal to tennis players at this point, and even that large section of the club needs updating as well. I will say their outdoor tennis court has always been beautiful in my opinion, the best and only good part about the athletic club apart from a pretty good restaurant. I've lived in the area all my life and I know it's convenience and heritage have served it well, but they shouldn't be over charging their members for a lesser gym than say, Great Lakes Athletic Club which is 10-15 minutes away. read more

The place is falling apart and filthy, the employees seem to turn around once every month and the ones that remain are rude....the machines are routinely inoperable....the pools are just plain gross, better to just go into the lake itself (as is the locker room)......the restaurant is the watering hole for the local 'drinkers', visitors are not treated well and the meal fare is not very appetizing and WAY over priced (we had food dumped on the BACK of one of our guests once and they never bothered to even apologize). Save you money; this place is a dump. read more

I am a new member and must admit the experience so far has been very disappointing. The overall maintained is very poor. The lockers, ceiling fans etc are rusted. The carpets are in need of replacement - the overall facility is very tired with perhaps the tennis courts being the exception. They frequently are out of towels and the showers often are out of soap. Unfortunately, the club used to be well managed and maintained. I will be looking for a new workout facility in 2018. read more

So here's the tea. This place is overall okay, especially in the summer- and that's only because of the outdoor pool. It's interior is outdated. It has a 60's businessman vibe... which isn't relaxing whatsoever. I grew up as a member of a different Athletic Club that's about 15 mins south- and they offer far more amenities for honestly a better price, updated building, and overall better Athletic Club. This place has the potential to be so much nicer, with added amenities. For the amount that it's members pay, you'd think the money would be going towards keeping the building nice. The ceilings tiles are all stained from leaks. The formica is peeling off of the counters. The locker rooms are a little sketchy, and the most popular way to access the outdoor pool is to walk through the gloomy PT pool area. It just really needs a facelift and a good clean.... but like I said- it's okay. Especially in the summer read more

Deer Lake Athletic Center is a personal favorite of mine. If you are wanting to get a god workout in, play some tennis or maybe get in a few racquet ball games. The personal trainers and front desk are very polite and help get you going with working out. However, it is pretty pricy for a membership but if you get one, it is defiantly worth the money and your time read more
