Greg is an amazing guy and very knowledgeable about bikes and training. I did all of my winter computraining here and I really saw an amazing improvement. They also serviced one of my bikes and after the service that bike performed flawlessly at a race that weekend. Thank you Deerfield!

    Big girl bike!
    Andrea R.

My daughter was ready for a "big girl" bike with 20 inch wheels Unfortunately, most of the frames for 20 in bikes were too big for her. We found one brand that worked at another bike store, but she refused to buy it because it only came in "boy colors." God forbid we get a bike that I could actually pass down to her 2 little brothers. It was a busy Sunday for Deerfield Cyclery, but we were greeted with a very friendly smile from one of their newer sales associates, Henry, within minutes. I explained we were looking for 20" wheels with a smaller frame in girl colors. Henry pointed us in the direction of a bike he thought would work. He lowered the seat so far down that we actually had to remove the light reflector (no chance of her riding this bike at night anyway) and it was the perfect fit. It's blue with pink so I may even get away with painting the pink writing for her little brothers. We added a flower basket and confetti and then she "rode" her new two-wheeler out to the car (before heading to Menchies for a "we found a bike" ice cream celebration) They were so speedy and Henry could not have been more patient with us. I'll be going back for all my future kid and adult bike needs!

    New bike!

In a few months I will be running an out of state half marathon in the Mojave desert and was asking…read moremy FB running community if they had any suggestions for running gear to prepare for the elements. I got a number of responses and a lot of them were things I didn't even think I would need but found extremely useful. I haven't done a half marathon in almost 10 years and I forgot how important it was to properly fuel myself for endurance runs. These days nutrition and electrolyte tabs aren't cutting it for me anymore. I don't want to hit a wall once I start hitting the 8-10 mile marker so energy gels have been helping me push through with ease and REI has plenty of them. They mostly carry the GU brand and HoneyStinger. I've been trying out flavors and found a couple that I like. REI despite their items being on the pricier side have great selection and quality gear. I was able to get everything I needed in prep for race day. I didn't encounter any issues with staff. It felt more like, "We'll leave you alone unless you need something." I'm totally fine with that. It's an upscale comprehensive sporting goods store with a good amount of items in stock. I was actually impressed with the women's shoe selection. They had more HOKAs in stock compared to Road Runner Sports in Wilmette. I know I could've easily gotten HOKAs online but I'm the type (especially when it comes to apparel and shoes) to want to test items out in person for fit. Had I known they had better availability with more colors in stock, I would've bought my shoes here. REI is granola and you'll need to bring your own bag to shop. They are officially bagless and no longer provide single-use shopping bags at checkout. Parking is easy since it's nestled within a strip mall. I was able to get a spot in front with no issues.

I walked in and was greeted right away. The staff is really friendly! She did an initial evaluation and then had others take a look. Well it needed more than a tune-up. The tires were shot, the gears were not switching. They gave me a list of things and I declined somethings but got the rest. I turned it in but it was busy they said and it would take 2 weeks. They would text me when ready. 2 weeks later, I did not receive a text. A week later, they called and informed me that they missed an issue at check-in and that it would take another week or so as they had to place an order. It is a good thing I have a mountain bike to train with! I received a text and went to go pick it up a couple weeks later as I just didn't have the time. When I picked up the bike, I wish they would have given me a refresher on all the things they fixed (one by one) but I could have also asked. I've ridden the bike and it is good as new. Overall, they did a good job on fixing the bike, Maybe a better checkout process and intake process so they don't miss anything.

Dood has a right to be into his subject matter. Usually shops want you to feel comfortable and respected as somewhat of a priority, even if you aren't being directly pitched at the moment... it just was not a good vibe. All doods working there when I was in. Way heavy on the dood vibe. Captive audience syndrome. Sigh. Dood has to do what a dood does. I avoid places like this.
