We added a bell and white tassels to it that was purchased and installed at the store. We had to wait an extra day for the accessories to be installed but that was okay because it's for our daughter's birthday that isn't until 4/20. This is more general than one specific store but I ordered a wheel online to be shipped to the Deerfield location. I followed the tracking online until it said they were preparing it for pickup in store. I called to see when I could could pick it up only to be told the order was canceled on their end and they don't have it. They did say I could travel to one of their other locations (hence the 2 stars) but it would have been extremely helpful to know this at some point way sooner in the process. read more

Erik's is a boutique, high-end bike shop for the most part. I've never seen more fat tire bikes up close and personal in my life! My boys received gift cards for here from a relative during the holidays, so we stopped in to scope out the scene on our way to Chipotle. My boys are just getting into scooters, so we wanted to see what this shop was all about. Turns out the scooter department was pretty small, including what my boys can get for $25 each, but we were told by the manager that they could order anything online if it's not something carried in the shop. They do have a small curated selection of high-end scooters and some random accessories. Getting back to the bike selection, even though the store was packed, it turns out their decent-sized snowboard selection and snow gear is about to move out with even more bikes and bike gear about to come in. Aside from a generous selection of tires and gear, they have a program where they will make sure you leave with the right frame for your size. They also carry electric bikes and have a shop and staff ready for all your tune up needs. This is a great thing, considering the North Shore is a huge bike community. They also carry a significant amount of clothing and accessories, along with healthy energy bars, etc. Overall, the service was friendly, informative, and incredibly knowledgeable. The store was packed with merchandise, and designed in a way that made you want to check out every part of the store. Lots of room to walk around with wide aisles. Onsite parking lot. read more

First, the good. This is a spectacularly beautiful shop. They stock a wide range of bicycles, including e-bikes and mid-high end equipment. Now the less good. If you have to special order anything, it's generally going to have to go through their warehouse in Minnesota, and then come to Chicago via a truck, which comes once every week or longer. None of the people who worked there when the store opened less than two years ago still work for the company, outside of the manager, who now works at their Skokie store. Most of the positive reviews for sales and service you see here are for people who moved on, generally on poor terms with the company. Now for the bad. Erik's has no soul. In terms of the corporate structure, they are a lot like the recently defunct Performance Bike, only with better equipment and worse discounts. You will rarely find a good deal at Erik's. You can get one if you use their policy of matching prices from another shop, such as Kozy's. Erik's is a commission-based bike shop. I'd much rather have someone sell me a bike who cares about a good job instead of someone who hustles to make sales. I also like it if someone who works there can do both sales and service, at least to some extent. I've bought things there, but they're essentially dribs and drabs. I feel guilty not spending money at shops owned by people locally rather than a corporate team from Minnesota. Sure, I'll go back. It's a bike shop after all. I just think there are better options nearby, at least for me. read more

Need bike tubes, very simple. Make a phone call, says they're too busy to answer due to Covid so go to the website and open chat. Open chat and state my reason for wanting to make sure they have the sizes and they have a "pre-chat" which I've never heard of before anywhere. Pre-chat wants to capture your email address and addition to the different information. Never will go back And based on the other reviews they're taking Covid a little too seriously here as an excuse for no service. After looking at selection and up-sell tactics at Viking Ski Shop, we landed at the Deerfield location for my wife's skis. The commendable service and and knowledge level of Bruce was unmatched, and their prices were much better too. They have a positive vibe, good business model, and great employees. The binding install was included ($30 up charge at Vikings Ski Shop) and the initial wax (and one future wax) was complimentary as well (not included at Vikings). I highly recommend and would use them for my future purchases. read more

This was my second purchase at Erik's, likely my last. I left the store dissatisfied with what I bought, the experience of purchasing, and even my first use when I got the products home. Here was my experience: On Friday May 15, I went to the store at around 2:30 because my 6yr old son said that he was "ready to ride bikes now". I had purchased a cruiser bike for my wife the previous year so I went to the same store to buy for both my son and I. There was a short wait (social distancing) but I got in there with a mind on pretty much getting in and out. I told the salesman as much as a lay person who was fairly new to the trade could. I needed a 20" starter bike for my son and I wanted a nice mountain/ride around bike for myself. He basically showed me where the bikes where and left me to sus things out for my self. When I asked what the difference was between this years model and a two year older one he said "two years basically" forcing me to try and examine the parts on the bike to figure that out. I asked if I could see another bike, he seemed annoyed but took it down for me to see. I said that I thought that the bike seemed okay and he offered to ring it up. That would be fine except that in my attempt to ride, it was clearly too small for me and when I pointed that out, he agreed, "you probably need an XL"... Back to me looking on my own again, eventually I "settled" for a bike that sort of seemed like I could use (wrong color, not a mountain bike actually, not the tire style or look I was interested in). I said "I will take these two if there are no other bikes in the style I want available." I asked if he could try and find a better fit at another nearby location, his response was "unless you could tell me specifically which bike you want, I can't search for you". At this point I had been there half an hour, admittedly knowing nothing other than "this looks cool" so I basically said "gimme whatever you are gonna give me". At this point I waited another 20 min for the guy to ask for my card. Frustrated I left the store and went bAck to my car. 10 or 15 min later, I called and asked the same sales man if he was in fact in a position where he could sell me the two bikes. He said sure (he had figured out how to ring me up I guess) but I would now have to wait in line behind 5 other people standing outside. Wanting to make things happen with my son, I agreed and waited the next 30 minutes. By the time I got back in the store, I was determined to end the experience on a positive note. I stated firmly that I wanted a mountain bike with knobby tires, a front shock, disc brakes preferably matt black or something cool like that. I offered to basically double the amount I was about to pay for the "settlement bike" that I was begrudgingly about to buy. I asked him again if he could call the other store to see if he had a bike in my size That I could buy for 1k maybe a little more as long as I liked it more that the one I was staring at. He left me to sift through the bikes on my phone but refused to give me the password to the WiFI creating additional struggle. I searched the store and found another bike that I liked he said "that bike is 2100 which nearly tripled my initial hope. It felt like "take it or leave it" because this guy wasn't gonna help me get what I wanted unless I found it myself. Heck, he wouldn't even try to sell me the better bike by explaining why it was better. I took the two bikes, he rang them up telling me that if I used them at all I couldn't return them. I asked if I could buy a helmet for my wife but he would not answer any questions about the differences between the models again so I skipped that. He walked me outside and left me at the curb with the two bikes. As I struggled to get them in the back of my truck, another sales person suffered to help me get them in and I was off! That would be the end of the story except that when I went to ride the bikes with my son, neither seemed to have enough air in the tires. There was no kickstand on the bike. I also need tools to adjust the seats, lights and other stuff that if he offered, I would have gladly purchased. When I got home, I found a bike on Specialized website that was much more to my liking, given that that is basically all the store sells, I don't understand why he didn't even try. Not recommending this place, the only reason I give two stars is because of the guy who helped me a little bit outside. read more

So I appreciate bike stores staying in operation during Covid and taking the necessary precautions but Eriks doesn't seem to function effectively. I have previously walked by the store numerous times lately and seen people waiting outside so knew they were restricting the numbers of people in the store. So when I arrived one family was in front of me so didn't think I would wait too long. A family of 5 exited yet nobody was allowed back in. Two more exit and nobody else let in. The store remained empty with its two employees while one of them talked on the phone (I assume with customers). But why aren't you letting people in. Eventually 10 min later they let the family of 4 in but nobody else. That family exited and again they let nobody in. An employee again on the phone and 15-20 min later the bike tech comes out and ask if I am picking up or dropping of a bike. I said no and he moved onto the next person who arrived 20 min after me and let him in. At this point I waited 45 min to get in the store to purchase one simple item. And 20 of this minutes the store let nobody in while it was empty except the two employee inside. I counted 12 people exiting while I waited and only 4 (one family) in 45 minutes. They really need to get their system in order. And when I did come in the store the employee was somewhat clueless and not helpful especially when I didn't take his advice on trying to upsell me on an item that was 3x the price of the one I selected. I'll go elsewhere in the future. read more

Great service & support. I was looking for an upgrade for my road bike specifically for a big event (with a lot of hill climbing). Larry gave me a few options for a new wheel set, detailing the pros & cons of each. I opted for the Zipp 202's, and he helped me choose appropriate tires, cassette (11x32), & derailleur (Ultegra mid-cage). Date of store visit: 10/4/21. I rarely leave reviews for stores or services. But I was so satisfied with my customer experience at ERIK's in Deerfield IL that I feel some feedback is warranted. I was in the market for a soft tail mountain bike and decided to pop in to ERIK's. The salesperson (Mitch) explained the pros/cons of carbon vs aluminum frame, the options relative to components and what the key differences were between the $2000 vs. $4000 vs. +$6000 bikes were. There was zero pressure to buy. Even when I gravitated towards the aluminum mid-tier bike there was zero pressure towards "upselling" me to something more expensive. I debated a little between a couple of options and Mitch's information made my final decision feel absolutely perfect. This was a big purchase for me ($3800) so the feeling of confidence that I made the right choice was super important. I left the store with no doubt about my purchase/choice and Mitch was instrumental in helping me navigate the insane variety of options available. Was shopping for Thule bike rack. Erik's chat says they can get the rack at Deerfield store in 4 days. Of course you can not get a hold of anyone on the phone to ask if this is true. All I could do is travel the 45 minute trip and try to order it. Long story short is I would have to pay additional shipping of $35 more and the 4 days turns into 3 weeks. I understand COVID issues but the communication should be better. This is the 21 century! Don't believe what their website tells you. read more

I bought a Rad Power Bike and paid for the local partner, Erik's Bikes, in Deerfield to assemble it. I picked up the bike late Friday, December 3rd. Over the weekend we tested the bike and noticed a significant thump from the rear wheel, along with a drift (or slide or shimmy) to the right every time the wheel went around. I brought the bike back the following Monday, and Erik's Bikes confirmed that the tire was defective. However, they refused to service the bike unless I bought a new tire, treating the situation as a warranty. I cannot recommend this establishment because I was not properly served: They delivered to me a defective bicycle. read more

The point of going to a smaller shop is to get customized, personalized and helpful service. That is not the case at this location. We purchased two bikes in July and brought one in because the battery seemed to have some issues. Nobody got back to us for a while and after several calls we were told very nonchalantly by the manager that the battery is performing how it should and that there's nothing they could do. No solution or idea whatsoever in terms of how we could be satisfied with this bike was offered. After inquiring, they then offered us less than half of what we paid for the bike in store credit. This was after several phone calls to headquarters and the shop itself and nobody getting back to us. I called to make sure the bike was ready to go for pickup and when I got there, it took several associates looking for the bike and some discussion about paying for some repair that they had done before I could leave with it. For the most part, the staff gives off a very elitist entitled attitude. I'm not sure where they think they are, but they definitely are not committed to customer service, which is a very important part of retail. We will not be supporting this business any longer and we will be telling everyone we know about our poor experience. read more
