My experience got to the point where I needed to file a claim with the State at my Insurance Carrier. They would not release my medical files to me. They would not give me access to my portal. I tried many time to reach the office to get help and to reach Dr Singh-Behl ( I was told she ones the practice). My calls were never returned by the Doctor, only billing ( who said if I want to see my bill or medical records I would need to go to the portal which I was denied access to) My Primary Care Doctor suggested that I call the state due to the run-a-roud he got by this offices staff. read more

Unfortunately had a very bad experience with Karen Chen, and then not great trying to escalate the issue and get a response. Brought my 15 year old for full body scan few days ago. We were 7 min late. I own that. Receptionist got me in the room with paperwork to finish at 15 min past appt time. Assistant walks in and says due to us being late, we can only discuss 2 top things, and full exam isnt an option. Unfortunately, as I counted on full body exam, and my daughter is a 15 year old, I did not recall specific areas of concern, as body scan would have resurfaced these. Assistant further said that appts itself is 15 min so we are past our entire time. Which is totally inaccurate as when I was there for full body scan, they cut a part of my mole and sent to lab. So that was the same appt and def lasted more than 15 min. In-between assistant and Karen walking in, I gave quick glance at my girl and found one of larger moles I needed doctor to look at. When doctor Karen Chen walked in, she has same attitude that we are late and thus no full exam is allowed. She did not ask me what was the issue and why I brought my child. She went on to address irrelevant minor issue my daughter brought up that was more cosmetic in nature than representing any health risks. She went on for 10 min to talk about the first issue. Finally I had a chance to bring up the real issue which was large mole. My daughter hesitated to lift up her shirt and show it to doctors. She looked at Karen and asked "should I lift my shirt". To what Karen did not say anything. When I tried to put some pressure to proceed and brought up that we just wasted 10 min on irrelevant topic, Karen asked me "Were you 15 min early to this appt to fill out forms". This was obviously not a real question, as we all knew I was not. So when I said "instead of arguing, why dont you look at serious things you can help with", Karen looked at my daughter and said " I am so sorry" implying that I was out of line and ended the appt. The fact that professional health providers do not look for guidance from PARENTS but undermine parents in front of children and instead listen to minors asking for irrelevant issues, is very unprofessional. I called the office same day looking to speak to Dr. Divya Singh-Behl owner of the clinic about this incident and obvious gaps in Karen's training. I did get a call back today from Tara, office manager. She left a VM. I called back and was on hold for 7 min until someone picked up. When they tried to transfer me to Tara, they dropped my call. I called back at 3.30 pm today trying to reconnect and was on hold 11 minutes before general voicemail picked up. I still was not able to connect to anyone as of now. Very unfortunate experience of critical gap in this specific Karen Chen dermatologist approach and attitude and apparently not adequate staffing during work hours. read more

Just had an annual check up with my favorite dermatologist, Dr. Beth Adams! I saw her for years at a previous clinic closer to my home, and the drive up to Deerfield was totally worth it to continue as her patient. She's the kindest, most supportive, respectful, and informative dermatologist I've ever met!! My husband had an initial evaluation appointment last week with her and agrees she's the best! The support staff are equally kind and welcoming. The appointment started right on time, plenty of free parking, accessible building, very clean and modern space. I recently saw Dr. Dalton, because I was concerned about my hair loss. I also see Dr. Dalton for my yearly skin checks. I have been going to him for several years now. He is always very friendly and does a thorough skin check exam. He answers my questions and makes me feel very comfortable during the exam. He gave me several suggestions regarding my hair loss after giving me a scalp exam. I'm very happy with Dr. Dalton and will continue to use him as my dermatologist. read more

I have been a patient of Deerfield Dermatology for at least 35 years. I was always able to get in to see a doctor with an emergency. Most doctors keep an appointment or two open daily for this very reason. And whenever I called to make an appointment or change one the phone was answered promptly and courteously. Today I called with what appeared to be an infected insect bite. My arm was hot , red , painful and swollen. I called around 9:00AM, I waited on the phone for 15 minutes thinking someone would eventually pick up, but instead I got an additional message that the phone could not be answered at this time , to leave name and number and a brief explanation of why I was calling , they would call back, which I did. However, by 1:45 PM I still had not heard from the office. I called again and was on hold for 6 minutes, the phone was then picked up and I explained that I had called previously , etc. The receptionist said there were no emergency appointments. I could go to Gurnee office later in the week. I said I live in Northbrook, I go to your office because it's in Deerfield, she didn't seem to care, nor did she bother to say sorry no one got back after waiting almost 5 hours! In the past the receptionist was kind and efficient and many times would say "let's see what we can do ." But ,I am assuming that is no longer part of the program. This person is representing every doctor in this office. And as we know we are only as strong as our weakest link. And she is the first link to every patient. There must be an office mgr. who looks at real reviews, because as we know the reviews from most companies website are mostly flattering. So perhaps you all need to check out Yelp occasionally. Because it appears there are many disenchanted patients . I will say I do love Dr. Johnson, but I think the doctors need to have a sit down with the office manager and tell her to check on the front desk performance. Maybe they need a training seminar on how to answer the phone, and respond to the patients. Without patients you have no practice or a job. read more

After 11 minutes, the recording said I need to leave a message with my name, number and date of birth. why doesn't the message come on after one minute, not 11? My daughter who is now 18 and of course as every kid that age wants to be independent and take things into their own hands. Regardless of age, they are not fully aware of what treatment is best, tolerance, side effects and appropriateness. Therefore, you rely on a provider to share that knowledge with them so they can learn to make appropriate choices. My daughter saw Candace regarding her acne, she had been to this practice 2 or 3 times and each had their own opinion. While my daughter is impatient and has difficulty swallowing pills, so the provider prescribes a pill form of treatment, negates that the prior prescribed skin cleanser was too strong and prescribed lesser, but unfortuntely my daughter did not bring that with her nor knew how to get it. The prescribed antibiotic has significant side effects but my daughter stated that the provider told her has absolutely no side effects. Then apparently there was a discussion about Accutane and Candace stated that she can prescribe. Ms. Candace I know you are capable of prescribing however I hope you also share the risks this drug poses. While she had all these treatments, unfortunately her skin is worse. Not one provider discussed with her that mixing of these multiple treatments and skin applications at once which in itself may cause irriations. I feel like this practice should be more considerate of educating patients on therapies, benefits, side effects and recognize their compliance or consistency with each, especially an 18 year old. Acne in the time of Covid...this office operated like a friendly and safe machine at our recent appointment for my teenage son. Even though school is virtual right now, we've been in and out of various in-person appointments getting our boys ready for school. In truth, we've been avoiding this visit, simply because we're not comfortable with anything in person at the moment. But, one of our boys has really unfortunate skin, so we couldn't wait any longer. The process... Pretty sure we were the only ones there. As soon as we walked in the office, they took our temperature. In the waiting area, the seats were separated 6' apart, and there was literally hand sanitizer everywhere we turned. Everyone was wearing masks. When we went to the exam room to see Dr. Waitzman, she took my son's temperature one more time. The doctor was lovely and patient. She answered all our questions and helped us get to the next level by setting up orders for our son's oral medication. We were in and out in no time at all. We felt safe the entire time. read more

I really like the doctors here, they're mostly wonderful to work with. Their offices are fresh, clean, and modern. But ... I had cystic acne as a kid and suffered horribly. Ever once in a while, a cystic comedone appears now. One did the start of the week. These deep, large, infections are painful, unsightly, and last almost a month. A few injections introduced immediately, stops the thing cold. I called them two days in a row for an emergency, same-day visit. Here's where they deserve one star: I never heard back either day. DD has so many patients, they can't do justice to a 12+ year patient with special needs requiring fast attention. Isn't that a common need in dermatology? An appt. is often a month away. Too late for my injections, the cyst broke open and I teach middle school. I'm now looking for a new dermatologist who can actually, effectively, treat me. read more

Saw Dr. Adams for my annual full body skin cancer check. That's all I came in for. I didn't request any other services, but I was billed for additional services. I told the billing manager that I didn't request anything other than an annual skin cancer check, and didn't seek treatment/advice for any other condition. I merely pointed out another condition that I wasn't seeking treatment for. But apparently me mentioning another condition justified them charging an additional fee, even though I never asked for treatment/advice/diagnosis, etc. So they basically scammed me. while I really like all of the people I have seen at this practice, the main woman in charge Dr. Singh-Behl, treated me very badly. one of her people mistakenly prescribed the wrong medication for me which I picked up and paid for. It was only $24 but it was their mistake not mine and I felt I should be reimbursed for it. Dr. Singh-Behl would not take my calls nor would she meet personally with me. I tried everything, including writing her a letter and she ignored me. I understand mistakes happen and I really do like all the people that work with there, but I think she was extremely rude to ignore me and not agreed to just reimburse me for the small amount. read more

This evening I unfortunately had a particularly negative experience with one of the receptionists and indirectly, one of the doctors. Recently, the office called me to reschedule my 6-month skin check with a different doctor due to my doctor's negotiations with BCBS coverage. That wasn't a problem and I was fine with seeing someone else, even though it pushed my appointment back a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, this new provider isn't available on my days off, so we were having to look for evening appointments that I could try to navigate my work schedule around. My appointment was for 5:30 in the evening. I left work early, giving myself extra commute time. As we all know, traffic from downtown Chicago is often unpredictable and I watched my ETA climb. I drove over an hour and then called to let the office know I was running slightly behind at this point; I would be nine minutes late. After a brief hold, I was told the doctor would not have time for a skin check but could accommodate an area of concern check. As I have no areas of particular concern, but a 6-month full-body check requested by my Deerfield dermatologist due to my skin history, the area of concern check was not a solution. I reminded the receptionist that I was due to be just nine minutes late, and she repeated her offer. I then let her know I wasn't sure what the office wanted me to do when I had already rescheduled an appointment I had set on my day off 6 months prior, left work early, and communicated my arrival time. She replied, "She does not have time". I said, "Then I will not be coming, goodbye". I have never felt compelled to write a negative review or complain, but this was so upsetting to me that I felt I needed to. I plan to find a new provider and not return to Deerfield. As I had excellent interactions with two of their doctors, this is disheartening. I felt extremely comfortable and trusting with Sammy and am very sad to look for another doctor. Overall, this was an unfortunate, upsetting situation. At the end of the day, this inconvenienced my work, it inconvenienced my personal time, and affected my future plans. read more

This felt very rushed, i would say like drive through! did not feel my son received care or compassion, just a lot of creams to purchase including one from the office. I have been a patient of this practice for thirty years. I finally got so frustrated that I have switched to a new Dermatologist. I had a breakout rash over much of my body- itchy and swollen. I called for an appointment to see my doctor as soon as possible. . I was told I couldn't see her for another month- she was booked. They suggested I go to a walk in clinic!! After making a fuss with the office manager (who apparently cecifes Who can see a doctor and who can't) was given an appointment with a PA. She was somewhat robotic- prescribed a whole bunch of cream ointments and steroids; I am Diabetic and was uncomfortable with this treatment plan, since the topical meds did not help and the steroids were problematic for my sugar Level. Long story short- do not go tho Deerfield Dermatology if you have a need to see a real doctor for an "emergency". My new practice was able to get me in to see a doctor within days because of a cancellation. I was treated with compassion and the doctor actually listened to my concerns. read more

RUN!!!! Everyone at the front desk is rude, including their manager, Melissa Gotfredson! Besides a horrible customer service DD will charge over $3,000 for pimple removal! this will NOT include any "freebies"! like scar reducing patch for $25, you will be told to get it yourself on Amazon! (Other MDs offer it for free!). BTW, the usual and customary fees for Mohs (confirmed with my ins) is around $1,000!!!!, DD don't want to give you a price range before you appt "it varies"... "someone will call you back"... "depends on what MD will do during the procedure"... You are required to give your credit card on file so THEY CAN CHARGE YOU WHAT THEY WANT AND WHEN THEY WANT TO! You will see the actual MD for 20 min during the procedure! YOU WILL FEEL RUSHED AT ALL THE TIME!!! No one ever answers calls, you will have to leave messages and wait days for a call back (when they just ask you to call them back!) you will play PHONE TAG FOR WEEKS before you can schedule a procedure...the soonest 3 months later!!!! There is no way to find out the results of your diagnosis until you talk to a person... which is months! they work banking hours! they just don't care! You will be asked to arrive 15 before each appt, absolutely for no reason at all! when your appt takes 10-15 min, their time matters, YOUR TIME DOESN'T MATTER!!! I'm very disappointed!!! read more

I spent the last 15 years at Deerfield Dermatology. They have gone downhill. The last three times I was there, I had the PA,Morgan Nixon/Kinsey. She walked into the room and screamed at me and my kid, asking "How did you get this prescription?" I stood up and firmly said, "You wrote the prescription Morgan." I scheduled to address a specific issue. When I arrived I was told they did not have the services I needed to address issue and referred me to another Derm. Since I specified my issue at time of scheduling, why was I not told in advance? Instead, I received a general skin check, which I guess was fine except if I am not going to receive care from them, I would have preferred to have done elsewhere. I felt scammed. She wasn't going to be looking at a spot on my face or neck. The visit was very short and she was not very friendly. I was not put at ease, and she was looking at a very private part of my body. Stay clear of this place. Brought my 7 year old son in today for his third visit to Dr. Marcia Johnson and was turned away for being 9 minutes late, despite the fact that I called multiple times to let them know I was stuck in traffic only to get a busy signal. I was finally able to leave a message a few minutes before the appointment time, but when I got up to the office was told by the receptionist that Dr. Johnson is "very strict" about these things and that she would have to "check with the doctor." The girl proceeds to walk over to another receptionist in the corner, says a few words to her and then comes back to me to say I have the option of seeing a PA today or rescheduling for another day because Dr. Johnson is "very strict". Shrugs her shoulders. I am not one to be late to appointments and I take other people's time very seriously. However, life sometimes happens and there was no consideration for the fact that I made every attempt to let them know. No effort was made at all to see if I could be squeezed in, even later (I would have waited). And the doctor was never consulted. The attitude was, "tough, deal with it." I come from a family of doctors and I know that this is just not how things are done. It is worth noting that this would have been my third visit to this doctor for my son's rash which she has been unable to properly diagnose or resolve. The rash is just the same as it was on day one, after numerous prescribed topicals and regimens. What good would it do to see a random PA when the doctor herself can not figure it out?? Horrible patient service, waste of time and money. I left feeling like this practice has a policy of not caring about its patients and I will not be back in the future. read more

Very, very hard to reach a human on the phone, voicemails not responded to and even a written and mailed request for notes ignored. I was even disconnected once and nobody called back. I have only been to this establishment twice and that was enough for me to say never again. I was pleased to find an office with late hours, while I was filling out my forms I over heard the girl at the front say that Morgan (which is the PA I was scheduled to see) was going to be "pissed" if the last patient is even 5 minutes late. This made me unsure to see Morgan but she was kind and prompt. I had my second visit this Thursday and am sorry for what I had to hear. The girl at the front desk was EXTREMELY unprofessional. In the ten minutes I was waiting I felt very uncomfortable with the language being used. I am talking plain and simple profanity. I am too embarrassed to go into detail but "punching my bf in the balls" I hope is enough to get my point across. Even the other girl sitting next to her tried to shush her but she did not care and was SO LOUD. If I were the manager and/or doctors I would want to know the class of people who are the face of my office. I will NOT be coming back despite how much I liked Morgan and convenient hours. Yes, Deerfield Dermatology doesn't keep you waiting long and you don't have to wait months to get an appointment but if you want any type of follow up after your appointment, good luck. I've had two appointments where I was told about next steps but no one followed through on the next steps. They send random texts and emails saying "we haven't seen you in a while" which makes no sense because THEY are supposed to follow up about test results and next steps. At another appointment I was told told to send in labs from my annual physical. I sent them and of course no one called to tell me they had received them. After weeks of waiting for them to call I called and got voicemail. The next day I received a message saying I was being referred to a specialist but was not told why I was being referred. So, of course, I called to find out why and got voicemail again (as I usually do when I call). i have yet to get an answer about treatment for the original reason I went to Deerfield Dermatology. The referral was for another issue that I went in for. Yes, it's great that you can get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time and you don't have to wait hours in the waiting room but their follow up care sucks big time. read more

I have needed a few procedures following a semi annual check ups and Dr. Dalton has been able to take care of everything during the same visit, unlike my previous dermatologist would have me return for 2 or 3 visits. Terrible clerical department, and terrible medical practitioners. I made an appointment after a vacation to Costa Rica where something in the jungle left me with a rash. The Dermatologist, Dr. Singh-Behl, who treated me seemed to evade the issue I came to discuss. Instead, she insisted on removing a mole that she thought looked suspicious. Thinking that a medical Doctor has my best interest in mind, I allow her to remove the mole. They told me to return in 2 weeks for a suture removal and gave me a hydro-cortisone cream for the rash. I wasn't really satisfied that no explanation for the rash was given, but I figure that if a Doctor of medicine is not worry than it is likely a non issue. Flash forward 2 weeks to the suture removal, and a giddy, young PA does the removal. My friend had mentioned that the scar for the mole was done by a terrible doctor (he's a plastic surgeon). It was a very small mole, less than a 1/4" and the provider left a 1" scar. Then, something felt weird a couple of weeks after the suture removal. I could feel like threads poking out of the scar, and it itched. SHE FORGOT TO REMOVE SOME OF THE SUTURES!!!! WOW!! I call, and return for ANOTHER suture removal (which they happily charged me for). The same giddy PA said, "Oooopsie, sorry about that". By this point, I thought surely they would get the job finished. NOPE!!! Two weeks later, ANOTHER thread is beginning to broach the surface of my skin. This time, I had my friend remove it. I wrote a long letter of complaint, noting how many other medical professionals looked at the mole removal scar and used the exact words "Hack Job". I withheld payment on my bill, awaiting a response from the practice. I was then sent an updated invoice threatening collections, and it included a $180.80 Collection Fee!!! WOW! Terrible service, not accountable for their work and an aggressive collection fee. Your grade received is an F, Deerfield Dermatology. I should've taken the hint when I saw an older man yelling at your front desk on the day of my first appointment. This practice is MORE expensive, LESS talented, and should definitely BE AVOIDED. There are MUCH better practitioners on the North Shore. For the record, I paid my balance without the collection fee and the billing department confirmed that would be ok. $930.00 Billed to me AFTER insurance for a mole removal! They billed the insurance company $1,300 for a mole removal!!!!! WOW! read more

Both my husband and I see Dr Dalton. He has been great. Always professional and thorough. He removed some annoying lumps and bumps easily and efficiently. I have been here three times now, the first the office was really busy but they still managed to keep close to on schedule. On my third visit we had a misunderstanding about the appointment time but they were able to get me in quickly despite my arriving a half hour early. read more

I went for a follow up visit to see how I was doing with my prescription and the PA was excellent. She went over other treatment options and referred me to the esthetician's. I'm now scheduled for a facial. I know I mentioned this prior but the staff if amazing. My visit from start to finish was excellent. I would definitely recommend this office.
