I've been going to the Deerhead for years, and it is one of my favorite places in Evansville. The food is always good, I usually go with the pita grilled cheese, the veggie burger or a pizza. Try the fries with a sandwich, they are thick and have a tasty seasoning on them. The double decker pizza is one of their specialties, and is always good. They have live music in the bar most nights of the week, and I especially like going on Sundays. Great atmosphere, good food and good blues/jazz music makes for a fun night! On a side note...if you are looking for a quieter time to dine at Deerhead, try lunch or early evening, as the music doesn't usually start til later at night. Also the enclosed patio is generally much quieter than the bar. They also have a drive-through window for carryout orders. read more

This has been our place to get the family together for a meal for many years now. Nice casual atmosphere, and the back room is great for us because we take it all up and hopefully contain our loudness to that area. The pizza is always great. Ordered delivery from here and got my food quickly. It was still hot but I was a little disappointed in the food. I wouldn't say it was bad but it was definitely bar food. Won't be getting delivery again but may stop in to try it after a couple beers read more

Great atmosphere, great staff, food is OK. Went with a friend for dinner. We went on a Saturday around 7:00. We were able to get a seat right away and the service was great. Made sure that we had what we needed but weren't intrusive. We ordered the buffalo bites as an appetizer, the stromboli, and the double decker pizza. The buffalo bites were pretty good, a little bit of heat but not to spicy. The stromboli was not what I expected. I was expecting the traditional "folded over pizza" this was more of a hoagie on a roll, very little sauce and lots of bread. It was good but a little greasy. The double decker pizza was good, the sauce and toppings, pepperoni and sausage, were great. The crust was a little off. A fun place with a nice patio but not the best food. read more

Learned a lesson to day. CHECK YOUR FOOD!!! Yesterday we went to the Deerhead cafe and ordered a pizza to go. They said it would be 35-40 minutes. We picked the pizza up after 30 minutes and went home to have dinner. We should have looked at it because you can see in the pictures it was borderline burnt. We called them and they said bring it back either last night or today which we did. They told us this is how their pizzas are served there is nothing they can do about it. Lesson learned. I didn't expect to be too impressed. This is evansville. Not a good town for foodies. The server sarah was quick and nice. I got a Greek salad. I did expect that much "stuff" including feta cheese on the salad. It was good. The dressing had a weird minty touch. It was good. Then I had the tenderloin. Not sure if it's fresh or frozen but again I was surprised. The meat and breading were great. They have quite a good bar selection. The interior is definitely "vintage" haha. I would come back and try another sandwich or a pizza. Didn't check out the bathroom yet so no report on whether that is clean or not. This is damn near the only restaurant around open on a sunday. I've been coming here for a few years,love the chili but I ordered a sandwhich tonight and waited a long time for my food when it got to me it had hardly any meat on it Deffinetly not worth the 8.45 they were charging I sent it back said I waited to long and it was over priced the owner came out trying justify waiting 28 minutes for a Philly cheese steak, I told him I wasn't going argue with him and I didn't want anything else. He then told me I was being rude, i did ask him if he treats his regulars this way and that i would not be back. As a cafe owner, I always seek out unique establishments with decent reviews. We travelled out of our way to give this a shot. I watched as the dishes came out and was impressed with the size and visual appearance of all the food. We ordered the double decker pizza. It was good, but the dough was still tacky and could've been baked a little longer. I understand tho exactly why it came out like that though. They were very busy that night with probably longer then normal wait times and just tried to get our food out asap. The atmosphere was appealing as it was just very laid back and chill. The servers were exceptionally nice and took time to interact with my children even though they were obviously busy. The only "negative" of the entire experience was seeing the frustration of the cooks with the open style kitchen. They were swamped and stressed and that showed across the open counter. Again, as a business owner, I understood that but other folks may not. Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You won't regret it.... but you may regret not getting one of their cool tshirts. Definitely one of Evansville's hidden gems. The pizza and fried mushrooms are killer awesome. The alcohol is pretty reasonably priced. The service is excellent (even if the bartender sometimes seems like he's in a bad mood, he's actually a super nice guy). And most nights of the week they have live bands, often jazz, featuring local talent. But don't go expecting to be able to hold a conversation - when the bands are on, it gets LOUD. But seriously, why would you want to talk? Get a beer and just get lost in the music. You can talk tomorrow. read more

This was my second visit. We went on a Friday night about 10pm and sat outside. We were the only patrons. After sitting there for about 5 min, I went inside to see if they were serving the patio and the cook said he'd send someone right out. "Amanda! Do you want a table outside?" It seemed like we were a nuisance. We each ordered a sandwich which arrived fairly quickly and tasted good. The menu is mostly toasted sandwiches with a few salads. I have been to the deerhead many times over the years but on this visit I was very disappointed about how long it takes to get served; much longer than usual. The pizza is the same as always but the rubin was the worst I ever had; very disappointed. My wife had the chili and had a bad nighttime reaction; a lot time in the bathroom. We also loved the live music- as Nashville natives, it made it feel like being back home- and they have a decent selection of drafts. What a festive atmosphere of music and good times. The staff was friendly and my Texas Strom was cooked well and had a smoky sweet BBQ sauce that was enjoyable. My wife had the Breaded Pork Tenderloin and commented that it was delicious and the breading was amazing. There was something weird tasting about the pickle though just a small thing, it had a cigarette smoke taste to it and I believe the environment is smoke free? So did my wifes. I give the Deerhead a solid five stars. Great food, great staff and great atmosphere. The souvlaki is fantastic. Great pizzas, and most everything on the menu is very good! One of the best bartenders in Evansville as well. Wish they still had more live music but you can still catch Troy Miller on Sunday evening for a great dinner show. Fantastic! I've had better pizza, but not much or often - this was good. Nice crust - thin and crispy, but not like eating a cracker. Good sauce and quality toppings. Very cheesy. We were on the road with our 7 kids, 10 hours into our drive and three left. We wanted to get out of the van and sit down for dinner, but didn't want to spend too long doing it. We called ahead - they got a little room ready and had our pizzas ready to go just a few minutes after we sat down. Great service, nice atmosphere, good food! I live in Chicagoland, but used to live in Evansville. My wife and I consider ourselves the biggest pizza-lovers anywhere! We have tried and love all the best pizzas in Chicago, but Igottatellya that Deerhead double-decker pizza is the absolute best pizza!
