We were in town for a cheerleading event and always look for places we don't have at home to eat and we stumbled across this gem. It gave old-school diner experience which we loved! The decor is cute and the young one with us loved the horses incorporated in the theme. The staff were extremely friendly and we were greeted immediately upon entering. Our server Mya (sp?) was absolutely top tier - made amazing food recommendations. My sister ordered the breaded catfish (which came with sides - vegetable soup, mashed potatoes, apples), I got the soup and the open faced roast beef with cheese on the bread as recommended and my niece got the spaghetti and meatballs. Everything came out hot and it was all delicious!!! Would highly recommend the vegetable soup! We will definitely be back next time we are in town. read more

This place was recommended to me by the lady at the front desk of my hotel. The outside of the building isn't much to look at, but the inside is fun and very clean. This is a regulars kind of spot. The food was good a little high in price as my omelet was $7.99 and didn't come with anything else. The omelet was filling good. I also ordered 1 biscuit with sausage gravy for $2.55 and that was a good gravy and the biscuit was cooked to perfection. The coffee was pretty weak. I so wish my nieces had been with me when I visited this place for brunch. It's theme is 50's style carnival theme. So they have horses that look as though they came off an old carousel. Horse statues and pictures were all over. It was a fun atmosphere for sure. The place was established in 1948 and their motto is "where the locals eat" The staff was very friendly and welcoming as you walked in. They seat you. There is a ton of seating options. They offer free coffee Wednesday and Thursdays with specials. They had a great variety on the menu and it was pretty cheap to boot! I got the cheese omelette that came with bacon and toast. I also got coffee and it was a pretty great brew. I would definitely be a regular here if I lived in the area. Recommend you give it a try!! read more

I was in town and looking for a place to eat on this side of town (unfamiliar with this area). When I pulled up to the restaurant, I almost turned around and left. The restaurant shares a lot with an old motel that is occupied by homeless people and druggies. I could see families inside the restaurant though, so I parked close to the door and went right in. The decor inside is kind of funky with stuffed animals and other oddities around the place, but the restaurant looked very clean and I was met at the door by what turned out to be the owner's son. He seated me and my waitress came to my table right away. I was seated by the front windows, which gave me quite a view of the homeless people. I asked for recommendations and she said they are famous for their spaghetti, which has a sweet sauce, so I agreed to try it. While I was eating, the young lady who was my waitress and I had a nice conversation. I asked her about the motel behind the restaurant and if she ever felt afraid around there. She said she did not feel afraid and I was glad to hear that. She talked about the people who lived at the motel, how they came to be there, etc. A party of four that was seated near me were regulars according to their conversation with the waitress, so that was also reassuring. My meal consisted of a salad, spaghetti, and garlic toast. I wasn't a fan of the spaghetti sauce, but I ate it. I added a couple meatballs, which brought my meal to $11. I'm not sure that I'd go back, especially not alone. It was nice to try something new though. read more

Stopped here for breakfast on the way back to Chicago after a road trip. What a satisfying meal to close the trip with! And the atmosphere made it even more memorable with all of the horses and merry go round decor. And very friendly staff! We got the Steak & Eggs, Veggie Omelette, and Pancakes. Everything was top notch. We're not sure if we were just hungry but their pancakes tasted way better than other pancakes we've had! Their coffee was great, too. Great experience overall! read more

Came here for breakfast and was blown away with how great this place is! I was from out of town so I wasn't sure what to expect when we came here, but I'm so glad we did. It has a retro diner feel, with some pretty cool decor that is (surprise surprise) merry-go-round themed. The food was awesome and really cheap for how high quality it is. You can get just about any meal for 10 dollars or less and the portions are a good size as well. The servers were really friendly and gave great recommendations as well. The eggs were OK but over cooked on the bottom (sunny side up- they were tough to cut with a fork). The orange juice was cheap-tasting, had no pulp, and had an aftertaste. You could taste the chlorine in the water (though, that's true generally of the tap water in Evansville). Price: They were weird about substituting extra egg for the meat and only allowed one egg. The orange juice that came with the meal was in a kid glass, though it looks like a regular-sized glass on the menu. Though I usually like to give local places a first shot, I think I'll just go to Waffle House next time. read more

My husband and I were in town to visit the LST325 in Evansville. That didn't open until 10am and we had read great reviews about the Merry Go Round. We are so glad we stopped in for one of their great breakfasts! It's not a huge place but it was crowded, clean and everyone was so friendly! We felt very welcomed there. My husband ordered the biscuits & gravy with eggs over easy and his order was cooked to perfection. He was one, happy camper! I ordered the Western omelette that was very, very good. Coffee refills were non-stop and all the servers/waitstaff were always smiling. The prices were very reasonable. It's good to know there's a fun place for breakfast in Evansville. And what she was wearing which was a crop top which wasnt that short and some nikey shorts!! Whilst the owner was wearing a short cheerleader costume ! My initial response was to laugh at their sign on their door. It's the first I've seen like it and it was a pleasant laugh. We come to this local place anytime I am in town. It's a great local, hole in the wall place that doesn't look like much but the food is great and always fresh. They have great reasonable prices for the food. The service is quick and always checking in. Your coffee will always be full. I would recommend this place if you are not looking for a chain restaurant.
