They really have all the essentials, which is nice and we visited here a couple times during our most recent stay in Shelter Cove. The town of Shelter Cove is a small coastal town so wherever you are staying in the area, this general store is easy to get to. As we pulled up, they had fresh vegetables and fruit for sale outside the store. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we entered the store and everyone was very friendly. The store is on the smaller side, although they were well stocked and had everything we were looking for. The store was clean and really well organized. I really liked that it was very easy to find everything that we were looking for. They have bear canister rentals as well as trail information if you are hiking the Lost Coast Trail. The Lost Coast Trail stretches about 25 miles along the coast and Shelter Cove is where people start or end this trail. People tend to come here (by car or plane since they have a small runway) to have a nice relaxing weekend on the coast or to hike the Lost Coast trail. If you are doing the latter and have forgotten anything, this is a good place to stop. They have a gift shop next door with items from many local artists and craftspeople and it's a great place to get unique souvenirs. It should also be noted that in a town with very few public restrooms, Ray's is not stepping up to the plate. There were two restrooms in back, one of which is designated employees only (despite two non-employees sneaking in to use it while I waited) and the actual customer one, which includes a sign saying you have to have purchased something in store to even use it. There was someone inside so I waited in a line in a cramped back hallway for a good ten minutes wondering what in the world this person was doing inside before finally giving up and hitting a dirty gas station across the street.
