I wish I could give negative star!!! I just purchased shoes here and walked out with a terrible feeling because of the rude attitude from the older lady working there. Spending money on a Friday night and leaving upset is not acceptable. I had a very disappointing experience at this store. When I came in with my daughter to try on jazz shoes, the older lady working there was rude from the very beginning. I asked her to bring both styles for my daughter to try, and she responded with a negative attitude like it was a problem. She didn't want to let her to try both styles. . Instead of simply bringing both pairs, the older lady refused, saying one "wouldn't fit." That decision is not hers to make it's the customer's choice to try and compare. Today was my first time visiting, and I was shocked by how unwelcoming this employee was. A sales representative should be helpful and friendly, but instead she made me feel like I wanted to walk out immediately. While my daughter was trying both pairs, I asked my daughter questions to make sure the shoes fit well (since there is no return policy). Instead of letting us focus, the lady kept interrupting by negative talking and being rude and It made the entire process uncomfortable. There are so many other stores that sell dance shoes, and I wish I hadn't wasted my time here. If this store wants to keep customers, they need staff who actually want to help, not drive people away. read more

Do not go here for pointe shoes. They are very sloppy in their fittings, and don't carry a wide range of brands, sizes, or widths. They don't carry the XXXXX width, so went up in size (length) to compensate, which just resulted in my daughter's foot sinking down into the box, turning them to mush in half the time they would have if she was fitted properly. When we switched to her competitor, we discovered that she should actually have been a 3XXXXX, instead of a 4XXXX, like Dee's put her in. It made a world of difference in her dancing, and we're just so grateful that she didn't break her foot before we discovered the problem. Dee's might be closer, but I'll happily make the drive to Barry's for a far superior experience. I honestly don't understand how this place stays in business and people keep going back. Dee's Dancewear has been a recommended local store by my daughters dance studio. We go here for shoes and clothing and the quality has never disappointed. I opted to purchase here knowing I could pass down the clothes from one child to the next. Sign up for their email list as they do have yearly discounts. The ladies here have always been helpful. You need dance supplies for yours or your daughter's dancing class tomorrow and the dance store that you always go to is closed. You're looking for an alternative and you found this place. Please don't be tempted. When we went, service seemed friendly, but the consequences for our choice came later. Our daughter was about ready to begin classes for pointe, and we described to them our situation. We, on their advice, walked out with demi-pointe shoes--this was the WRONG ADVICE! No fitting (other than to try them on), no advice as to care, just hand us the shoes and ring us up. Nothing else. To see the pain on my daughter's face after that first class was agonizing, as were the huge blisters all over her feet. Wait. Please wait until Monday. read more

I have to say, after reading the other reviews, I'M SHOCKED! I've been going to this Dees for a few years and have NEVER experienced what I am reading here. Strange... The staff has been nothing but courteous and helpful! They greet us when we walk in and apologize if they are unable to get to us right away (serving other customers). They've even come up to me to ask if I need help finding anything. As with most retailers, I avoid going on weekends. Stores in general are typically just too busy and I personally don't have the patience. Since I like to receive good customer service, I try to pick the best days and times when I will likely receive it. I won't argue that Dees' prices seem high for many of their clothing items. However, their shoes and dance tights seem comparable in price. Making exchanges is super easy too. That's been MY experience. I hope other Yelpers who have had pleasant exeriences here will post their reviews. read more

I was a first time customer of Dee's today. I actually had a pretty good experience! The staff were busy fitting two little girls for pointe shoes and managed to help me in between. Sure, they're a little pricey, but what are people expecting when buying the top brands of dance shoes?? I paid pretty much what I was expecting to for my BLOCH nude character t-straps. If you're buying quality, don't complain about the price because you really do get what you pay for. And as for not buying the correct style or size, well, it's something you learn from experience. It took me a good 4-5 years to know what worked on my feet and what didn't. It may be a size, brand or style issue and unfortunately, that knowledge only comes from experience. I'm glad I went into Dee's today and I will return in the future! :) read more

Went here to get my daughter a special outfit for her class recital. I was very disappointed. This store is great if you want to get regular dance clothes (tights, leos, etc.) but you will be paying an arm and a leg for them. I live in S. Scottsdale and normally go to Barry's Capezio, but I didn't make it by closing time (Dees is open 2 hours later.) However; Dee's wasn't worth my time. I walked out not finding what I was looking for, and I was extremely disappointed by the selection. The staff came out to point to the kids section and then went back into a back room. I'll be going to back to Barry's Capezio tomorrow. Their selection is much bigger with a better variety, and the prices are at least 1/2 of Dee's Dancewear. Don't ever shop here! After working in the retail industry for 18 years I have never encountered such bad customer service. My daughter received a unitard from there for Christmas and I needed to exchange it for something she actually would wear. However since the gift giver purchased it on clearance they refused to even exchange it. Apparently since signs are posted they just expect you to be unfocused on shopping and reading everything. The cashier did not even tell the purchaser that the item would be final sale, especially during December when many are gift shopping this is a common courtesy. Even writing it on the receipt when be a beneficial customer service. When I asked to speak to a manager they sales associate had to take my name and number and said that the manager would call me by Friday. Since I never heard from the manager I had to call myself. I was then told the note was on the desk and that I should try calling back myself during a certain time frame. I then received a phone call back stating that the manager would not be speaking with me and would not complete an exchange. I can not believe that the manager doesn't even have the decency to speak with me about the situation. With the many years we have ahead to be shopping for Dancewear we will never be shopping here again and I will ensure that any of our fellow dance-mates are aware of this place that has a clear lack of service. read more

This is a place to stay away from. Because they have been in business so long they think they can do what they want to the customers. Despite the staff recommending a shoe as a good tap shoe, and despite the owner putting taps on the shoe, when it didn't work for the dancer as a tap shoe, the owner not only refused to stand behind the sale of the shoe and his workmanship, but he was rude about not making things right. In a day in age when online shopping is quick and convenient, retail stores should be bending over backwards to be helpful to their customers. Barry is not. Stay away from Dee's Dancewear. Poor Dee would be sick to see her sons doing such a lousy job with her namesake. Shame on them! read more

Despite the negative reviews, I went here today to get tights and ballet shoes for my 4 yr old, since she starts her first (ever!) dance class next week. I decided to give this place a try anyway because of how close it is to my house. My experience was great. I was greater when I walked in, the girl working there got the proper shoes, was patient with my daughter as she decided on which shade of pink she liked best. The girl also got the tights in the proper size. She was very patient and friendly, answered all my questions. No negative experience here. read more

I signed my 3yr old up for dance classes and they recommend getting ballet shoes. Dee's popped up on my google search so we headed there. It's a cute, clean store. It was busy and there seemed to be only 2 people there. Finally I was able to get help and of course they only had the more expensive shoes. The girl who helped me was nice but didnt seem that knowledgeable. I have no clue what I'm doing so I felt lost and scattered. I was shocked at how much a simple leotard cost. I'm not sure if every place is this pricey but it was expensive! Some how I got 20% off on a couple of my items which was nice, but I spent over $50 for 3 items. If this is something my daughter enjoys I'll do research and check out the average cost. If this place lines up with that I might go back! read more

As mentioned by other reviewers, the prices are high, the staff are not helpful, and the return policy is crap. I returned a pair of ballet shoes, with its receipt and was given a receipt back with a note on it that said "In-store Credit". I understand it's a small business, but if you can put my information in your computer, you should be able to add a note stating that I have in-store credit. Once I use it, I'll NEVER spend another penny there. And I'll tell the dance studio owners I know the same thing. Zero customer service! read more

Awful! Do not give your money to them. I went there to buy a pair of shoes for my daughters dance performance. When I got home we discovered that they sold us a pair of mismatching shoes. We were forced to go elsewhere to get what we needed. When we attempted to return the shoes, they did not apologize, acted like it was our fault, and refused to return our money. Instead they offered a store credit. They will lose all of our future business and I will steer as many others away from this business as possible. read more

I didn't know what to expect as I've read some negative reviews of this place, but my daughter needed tap shoes for her class this Tuesday and in a pinch I came here. We were immediately greeted as we walked in the door and a sales girl tended to us right away. She helped fit my daughter for shoes and we were out in 15 minutes. They were also having a back to school sale so we got a 20% discount. The shoes seemed reasonably priced. Both girls working today we're very nice and friendly. I'll definitely shop here again for any dance wear needs my daughter might have in the future. read more

A night before I bought dance shoes for $41, including a 10% discount because my daughter lost a shoe from the previous pair I bought. We found it this morning so I went back to return the new pair. Much to my surprise the store does not offer refunds, they only offer in store credit. They do post this policy but it's one of those things you don't pay attention until you get the rude awakening. These are expensive shoes and I could have bought on Amazon for $36. I didn't want to wait for delivery so I went to buy it outright from Dee's dancewear. I was a repeat customer, I bought few pairs of shoes over the years for my girls. It goes without saying I will no longer spend my money to this store. Staff was and always were curteous which leads one to believe customer needs are always met .... until you need a refund and then you are being shown the big font letters reading " NO REFUNDS". I guess I got too complacent with the norm that many other stores have in place "returns and refunds within 30 days" and I didn't notice the 1 inch big letters. Not here. To all reading this beware and open your eyes when buying from this store "NO REFUNDS"!! You get one shot to buy. They just just lost a good spending customer, but that's okay for them I'm sure .... that's plenty of fish in the ocean and probably couldn't care less for one negative review out of thousands. read more

Went to this shop today and the lady who was there was Awesome! My oldest is an impossible size and she is super picky. Her dance studio has implemented a different color leo for their classes. I chose not to go the online way, but to support a brick and mortar business. The lady was super super helpful, very patient, called their other stores to see if they carried my kids size/color and finally helped with ordering the leo's because the other stores didn't have the ones we needed. She made a frustrating experience not so frustrating :) read more

I wish I would have read these reviews before going to Dee's. I have always gone to Barry's Capezio in Scottsdale for the past 14 years and decided to go to Dee's because they can put taps on the shoes right in the store. Well...big mistake! The taps were uneven on each shoe and I felt a screw inside. My director/choreographer (who I sent there to buy his taps) told me to bring them back for an adjustment. So I dropped them off, and when I came back, I still felt a screw inside the shoe. And so did the girl who worked there. They said I had to call the owner in the morning. So I left the shoes there again and called the next morning and I was being very nice and apologetic because I knew his dad was ill. Here I was apologizing for not being satisfied and instead of saying he's sorry I had to come back 3 times, he yelled at me saying 'I don't have time for this!" and hung up! So I went to pick them up after work and I got home and tried them on. I still feel the screw and the right shoe doesn't tap when I tap the front of my foot. I had just spent almost 300.00 there within 5 days on another pair of dance shoes as well. Block split sole characters for almost 100 bucks!, plus i sent a bunch of others to buy their items for our production. We will NEVER go back. I don't know what to do now! I can't tap in these. Maybe I'll see what Barry's Capezio says. All this money wasted! read more
