I have tried my hand at keeping green things alive a few times. (Not successful. Very upsetting) I had it in mind that I was looking for a particular plant. (Two) I found a beautiful ivy in a pot wrapped around brown branch things and I was ecstatic. It was perfect. It was also not too healthy. It was the only one. Knowing my track record I put it back with the sales associate. Hopefully it was saved. I found another one in a hanging plant pot so I bought that one. I am happy to report it is still alive. It looks a bit pale and dry but it lives. I didn't find the other plant I was hoping to buy but I purchased a variation which I am happy with. It also LIVES !!! read more

HORRIBLE! I usually go out of my way to support a local business but for businesses that deserve it. Shop at Atlantic Nursery in Freeport for beautiful inventory AND great people. The service from the general manager here was deplorable. I went to pick up 2 plants half an hour before closing time and was chased out of the store by one manager and then when I went to speak with the general manager (very kindly mind you) was told "you have a nice night" and completely dismissed and ignored. It was so bad that their own younger employees were apologizing on behalf of management. Since moving to the neighborhood I have spent over $500 in this store and will never spend another dime. read more

I am OBSESSED with this nursery. Year to year they always have the BEST selection of flats in the game. While it is quite pricey, you truly do get what you pay for. The store itself is vast and the options are endless. I heard a couple discussing whether or not they had what they were looking for and the man said "I'm pretty sure they got everything you could ever want in this place." yup! Probably! If you can afford to splurge once or twice a year on some gorgeous plants and flowers for your garden make sure to do it here. The place is huge! Spent at least an hour walking around this massive plant store located in Oceanside (I might even call it a facility it's so big!). I pretty much checked out all the different types of plants, pots, and funky items that I could find. Ended up getting a decently large 'fan plant', a large matt light green pot and some soil. That's probably not the official name but I call it that because well, it's pretty large and it fans out. It also has this real cool carribean style to it and definitely livens up my living room (side rant: aren't all rooms living rooms?). All in all, it came to about $80 and while I felt expensive as in the moment as bought it, I'm super happy with the purchase. They even planted it for me, which I believe was included in the price. Plus, looks pretty healthy and I have a feeling it'll grow for years to come! read more

The gentleman I believe is the owner is extremely demeaning and rude. His plants die and his plants excuse is that "you didn't water them". This place has dead plants and the guarantee isn't even a guarantee because they do not honor it. FALSE advertisement! They are so helpful in fact that I made a few hundred dollar mistake in buying the wrong plant. We'll stick w Hicks Nursery - better quality & variety of plants, large selection of soil amendments, garden tools etc. They accommodate customers (at Hicks in Westbury) instead of making excuses. Have been a customer for years. Paid $330 for a Christmas tree. Started setting it up to find a huge mouse nest throughout the whole top part of the tree, with a dead mouse included. Receptionist was mortified and very sympathetic. Owner said, "that's nature". Won't be returning. read more

Really large nursery/ florist/ garden and home decor store in Oceanside that has a huge selection of what ever it is you're looking for your home outside or in. Impressive holiday decor selection as well as plants, flowers and gardening supplies. The staff were all helpful and polite and prices are kind of up and down. I found all the plants and flowers really reasonable but the home holiday decor was a tad pricy (I couldn't resist buying Halloween decorations anyway). I would definitely come back for fall plants and recommended. read more

The stories are all true!! They are nasty people. I do an extensive amount of organic gardening and thought I would add a few more veggies to the mix and stopped into the Dee's Fourth of July sale. One word......disgraceful!! Without knowing this....I made the mistake of bringing my pocketbook. Apparently the policy is no bags so they would not let me in and left me standing in the rain. Did they think I would steal a hydrangea ? I asked if I could speak to a manager and they stood there laughing. Apparently they care little about their customers. The store is also huge and neatly organized I picked up a Christmas tree tonight - found out they come all the way from the Dees nursery farm up in Maine- and it's absolutely beautiful! The woman at the indoor cash register was not wearing a mask. I have been a customer for 30+ years but her statement the the vaccine only protects ourselves and not the community exposes her disregard for others and the community. Won't be going back. RESPONSE to Joe's comment- it is wonderful that you have provided jobs for your employees during the pandemic (and supporting local family owned businesses is one reason why I have shopped at your nursery rather than Home Depot), but the good you do is undermined by the fact that the woman at the counter WAS NOT WEARING A MASK!!! I'm into houseplants, and I decided to stop by after picking up a string of frogs from Atlantic. I was looking for a string of pearls. The place is huge. I eventually got back to where they have them and saw a hanging display. At a glance it looked like they had a larger plant for $5 less than Atlantic- great. Then I started looking at them for regular concerns like mold, fungus, soil, pests, and the overall health of the plant. It was disgusting. At first I thought maybe it was just one, but all of them were sopping wet and had gnats flying around the second you blew into the leaves. Believe me, I checked all of them hoping they let one dry out. Nope. There were bugs everywhere, and with that much water, inevitably disease. Green algae was growing on the top of the soil, so I know this wasn't a one off regarding the soil being absolutely soaking wet. Plants might be cheaper here, but it's not worth the risk of bringing it home and having bugs or fungus spread to your other plants, or losing the plant to root rot. read more

Been coming here for a while to shop for plants but never really asked for help regarding them. Isabel, the nice young lady working at the greenhouse, was an extreme help! Iwas there for an hour asking questions about plants and she was able to answer everything knowledgably. I brought in some plants and she was able to tell right away they had mealy bugs, and right away recommended me a pesticide that has been working well. She did a great job of repotting my withered plants and they are coming back to life! She really is amazing. I feel like I could talk to her for hours about plants, and life. Highly recommend for all your plant needs! read more

The Nursery is tremendous and had the kind of mulch I wanted ay a good price. HOWEVER, if you care about the State mandate fo people to wear a mask when less than 6feet from each other, you will be pretty disturbed at this business. There are no signs requiring the wearing of a face mask. Out of the 7 employees (younger and older) that I came within 6feet of,only 1 young lady was wearing a mask over her nose and mouth. Of the other 6, 3 young boys were wearing masks as chinstraps, and the 3 older men had NO mask on whatsoever. One of those 3 had a transparent face shield on, but he was wearing it more like a tennis visor. The owners obviously don't care enough about their customers' health to take safety precautions. I guess they haven't lost anyone to COVID. If you care about your safety, go somewhere else's. read more

I have shopped here before but never again. I am disabled and had my 80 year old Mom with me in a boiling hot day. I simply wanted a bag of mulch and some potting soil. I didn't know it would cause such a commotion. First off I bought a bag of red mulch. Or at least I thought I did. When I went outside I was told they were out and had been for weeks. Then when they loaded my potting soil they tried to give me a bag half the size of what I paid for. When I went inside they tried to palm off another mulch with a completely different texture. The back and forth and confusion was very distressing on a boiling day. Look this is an very expensive place and I have done better at other places. Not recommended in my book. read more

Zero stars.. in my opinion. Where to begin... As you enter the Dee's compound you will be stared down by a very unpleasant unmasked older white haired guy. Sort of a wanna be guardsman. The maze begins with overpriced and out of season wilted annuals and lots of old n dusty decorative merchandise (pretty much garbage made in Taiwan a decade and a half ago). Its looks like they pull this crap out of the basement every year in hopes of selling it but they are too cheap to part with it and too stupid to attempt to recoup their money. Better yet- in hopes of selling it to some sucker at the Dee's Fourth of July big freaking deal sales event. Now that experience is for another review all together. It's really the day the Dee's family can treat their customers like criminals before entering the corral. There's a 6 foot board of ridiculous rules to abide by during their big we need to make money before summer sale. Hey- bet they'd pat you down while entering and exiting if they could. So, as you continue to navigate through the extremely poor layout of the never ending trail you will see what they consider to be a "Gift Shop" It's basically an area of sparse outdated random items that have literally been there for years. For two reasons ugly and overpriced. Adjacent you'll find the very sad "Artificial Flowers" aka fake plastic flowers - this space needs to go! They think it's still the 1950's (in more ways that one) Again weird old stuff that won't sell. I haven't had a good look at the "Fresh Flowers" department, so in all fairness I can't comment. I have a strong feeling that it's not very fresh. If it's anything like their houseplants and nursery stock, it's definitely not good. This has been the case for a number of years and has nothing to do with the pandemic. Its shocking to see the general lack of plant health throughout the nursery not to mention quality. The majority of plants are clearly not maintained after arriving from the grower. Sure the plants coming off suppliers delivery trucks look super fresh. Within a few days the plants you'll see that they were either not watered or overwatered... in a state of rapid decline. Very shortly after the plants are half dead from stress. The survivors ultimately become diseased and bug ridden. Then while these cooties multiply they also start to sprout weeds. Oh joy, just in time for the big 50% off sale. That's the only added bonus you'll get if you decide to take a chance. I'm sure the owners response to their very real insect and disease issues will be that they are subject to inspections by the Department of Agriculture blah blah.. certainly doesn't mean much. This nursery may look like something nice to those people who have very limited plant knowledge. What I see is a place that wants to offer a lot but they just can't get it right. You can't be everything to everyone. It looks like very little effort in maintaining the plants and the overall building. They brag about being in business since 1950 whatever. Its looks and feels like they don't care about their customers. The employees look beyond miserable. Maybe they need to work on employee education/training. Maybe retire and just sell the land. It just seems like they've lost the passion for their business. The energy is very bad. The calendar changed and they didn't. It feels like they've taken their customers for granted. People shouldn't leave your business with the feeling of " why did I go there again" or wondering if they should treat their plant purchase with insecticidal soap or neem oil because bringing home cooties to the garden or house plants would suck. I'd rather enjoy my shopping experience and spend my money at smaller well maintained nursery run by knowledgeable and personable people. Fortunately this is possible since there's a great nursery in Freeport ( just a few short miles east of Dee's.) Its worth the time, the staff is happy and helpful, the plants are exceptional in terms of variety and quality, the prices are very much in line. I won't be returning to Dee's since I've never ever had a good experience. read more

We come here every year for Santa and the Easter bunny. It is so nice that they offer pictures for free and offer to print photos for a decent price. The Santa is definitely legit compared to some of the mall Santas I have seen in the past and the Easter bunny is just as good. As for flowers and other items, they have a very wide selection, but mike most other reviewers I would have to agree that they can be a little bit on the pricier side when compared to Home Depot or Lowe's, but it is always great to support a local business like Dee's. read more

I live out of town and I ordered a summer flowering hanging basket from their web site as a get well for a friend. The morning of delivery I received a phone call from a lovely woman upset that they did not have the exact basket I ordered but they just got in some beautiful flowering baskets and would it be ok to substitute it. I said absolutely no problem as long as it was pretty. And it was! I am so amazed that they actually took the time and effort to call me. I requested delivery today or tomorrow.. it didn't matter to me and she said they were trying for today but they were really swamped so probably tomorrow. Not 2 hours later I get a message that it was delivered today! Wonderful customer service and beautiful quality. Such a step up from the usual on line flower deliveries where you pay alot of money for one thing and get something totally different and worth half the price you paid. Not here..beautiful and worth every penny! I would not hesitate to use them again. read more

This place is great! I loved the look of it just rolling into the parking lot. It reminded me of the good old family establishments that were so much more common when I was a kid. Inside was no different. It was loaded with friendly and helpful staff members. My wife and I are terrible at keeping plants alive so we were looking for a house plant that could stand up to terrible plant parents like us. The man who helped us was so knowledgeable and nice. He showed us an awesome variety of plants that would do great in our home and when we picked our favorite one he potted it and left us with simple instructions on how to keep it alive and well. We just moved to the area and are happy that we found a trustworthy family owned and operated place like this. Looking forward to returning in the spring! read more

Although there is no option for this, I give Dees 0 stars. When I was little, going to Dees was a regular family outing. Living in an apt the last several years, we had no reason to frequent Dees. We recently moved and now have outdoor space. My husband has been there several times in the last few weeks. He has commented that Dees is overpriced and the staff is not particularly friendly or customer service oriented. Nonetheless, we kept going back. Today was the last straw. We went for their Fourth of July sale. No strollers allowed. We have a 6 month old. Ok fine. My husband carries the awkward car seat after having to park at the far end of the parking lot and getting "permission" from security to bring in the carrier. Seriously? Ok fine we were already there. We get to the entrance and I have a small bag with me. The security guard says sorry no bags. Are you fking kidding me? I wasn't allowed to bring diaper bag, stroller or a bag. Do you have gold and diamonds on display? What are you so afraid your customers are going to steal??? We walked out and WILL never go back. I would rather drive an hour to a nursery than ever go to Dees again. I just read a book called Hug Your Customer and it's a successful business man's philosophy and story of how exemplary customer service was the foundation of success for his business. Dees is the antithesis of this. There is no thought about the customer or quality of customer relations. It's all about the bottom line. They are a greedy, unprofessional business and do not deserve my business. I am in a client services industry and if I ever treated my client's the way Dee treats their customer I would expect to be out of business. No one should tolerate this sort of treatment as we experienced at Dees especially considering the high prices. read more

We just came back from what they call their fall festival. Boo. Definitely not a place you must go to specifically for Halloween activities. I wanted to believe it sucked because of the weather. I mean, when does it snow before Halloween?! But, I think this is just a nursery that may have neat things that happen if the weather is convenient. There were some large, neat wooden cutouts for picture opportunities. Most of the small & medium pumpkins were gone. Sorry, I'm not paying $20 for a pumpkin. No petting zoo, story time, face painting or pony rides. Disappointed. The nursery itself looked fine for garden supplies. I just think their fall festival is a joke. UPDATE: Thank you to the owner for responding & sending me a personal note. But, our experience was exactly as described. We drove an hour from downtown Brooklyn to the nursery expecting a fall festival & wanted to do more than buy a pumpkin. I completely understand not having ponies, but no one pointed us in the direction toward indoor festivities and we left disappointed. My review is about our experience on one afternoon specifically wanting to attend the fall festival as a destination event. I wish them luck for next year. read more

This is my first yelp review. I just returned from an outing to Dee's Nursery...I have always enjoyed my spring shopping sprees at the nursery and all the more so these days! On the one hand I will say that Dee's had everything I needed and that is great but here's what happened that motivated me to write this review. Because of covid-19, the nursery checkout is at the far end of the property. After getting my plants together I headed in that direction and was told that there would be potting soil and miracle gro at checkout. After waiting in line, it was my turn at the cashier and I asked for potting soil. I was told the only sizes were large bags (and since I live in an apartment and was only planting a window box) I asked if they had anything smaller. No they said so what a surprise (to everyone)when I looked down on the shelf in front of the cashier and found small bags of organic potting soil! Then I asked for miracle gro and they said they didn't have any. I asked if they carried it and were out or they didn't carry it. Oh, we carry it but its in the main building (all the way back at they entrance). Could I pay for it with the rest of my things so I didn't have to come back? No, they didn't know the price, I'd have to go get it and come back to the cashier. So I paid for what I had, walked back to the other side, found what I needed, headed back to the cashier and found that the line had grown and was now 10 or so people. I walked up to the guy with the big mouth (you'll see why I describe him this way later) and said, Hi, I was just here, waited on the line, but I had to go all the way back to the other side of the nursery to pick up this product (you may be wondering as I was, why they didn't have any at the checkout when they were fully stocked in the store) and I would rather not stand on the line again. Instead of, I'm so sorry for your inconvenience, of course, go back to your cashier, the guy said in a loud voice, YOU WANT TO CUT THE LINE AND GO IN FRONT OF ALL THESE PEOPLE? NO YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE BACK OF THE LINE! I was embarrassed of course and started to head back to the line when I realized I didn't want to spend another penny there (I had already spent $130 on 6 plants and a small bag of soil) and left. Passed ACE Hardware on the way home and they had everything I needed plus customer service! read more

Wonderful store with amazing displays. Had another great time at the 4th of July Sale. I came all the way back from Arizona to see my parents and I had to make a visit, (especially for the sale), to Dees. I got my mom some great hanging baskets for her house. I am always amazed at how organized they operate during the sale. No matter how crowded it gets (and it can get really busy there), the way they run the place it never seems out of control. And this goes way back to late 70's when I was a kid. Some people hate rules and organization, but I'm all for it. There's always a small few who think that the rules aren't meant for them. Regardless, this place is a pleasure to shop anytime of the year that I come home. Only 1 thing I miss....I wish Dees still sold the power equipment at the 4th Sale. I have great memories of waiting overnight with my dad for a lawn mower. It was always like a tailgate party! The quality and service are second to none and Joe and his staff have always answered my questions and helped me and my family with any garden problems. I even email Joe sometimes from my home in Arizona to get advice! Oh, and Christmas time there is awesome. Hope to make it back for Christmas! Dees a MUST go..... read more

I must say this is one of the biggest Florist/Nurseries I've been to. I like the selection of flowers and plants. For a do it yourself garden they have all that you need to make sure you have a healthy and full garden. I did come here for their Florist which was actually a day after Mothers Day and they had a apparently sold out of most of their flowers but they quickly caught up on their pre-made designs. The flowers were fresh and nicely made. Prices are a bit higher than some other Florist i've been to but for a last minute arrangement it worked out just fine. read more

My family and I frequent this garden center because it's one of the best in our area. The costumer service is very good, they are always helpful. I like how friendly they are to everyone. The always seem to have a great selection of flowers and other great products. The only downer is that they close on Tuesdays..but I guess we just have to get used to that. Recommended!! read more
