I called Adam to fix a heaved front stone sill on my house. He came out next day to give me an estimate. I liked the price so I agreed. He scheduled a time with me in a couple days. Next day he called, told me prep for another job was not completed and offered to come out right away. He came out and completed the work in the time he estimated. Work was of high quality and looks great. I have since hired him again to redo the other side of the job. I will be using him for several other jobs I have planned in the near future. Adam was very polite, kind and personable. He made me comfortable having him work on my house. I have had him help with several painting jobs after. Always professional and timely. I will never recommend anyone or if I know someone was going to hire them, I will stop the person for sure. We hired them last year. As other people mentioned they changed numbers in the estimation during the work. BTY, their estimation does NOT include material!!! Of course, their quote is the cheapest. Also they did NOT estimate the material either. They requested me to give them my credit card. They purchased Twice. They did NOT ask my permission to use credit card second purchase. I had torn up some outdoor carpet that the previous owner had glued down on my condo balcony. Once I had gone as far as I could with the project, I needed a knowledgeable, skilled handyman to finish the glue removal and seal the surface. It took me weeks and a number of calls/emails to find Dehne. Everyone I talked to either told me they didn't know how to do the work or just didn't call me back. One company advised me to buy an oscillating rotary tool and do it myself; they were willing to send someone out to work on it but refused to come out to take a look and appraise the job first. I was getting really discouraged and frustrated that no one would take my job, and I wondered if I should have just kept the nasty, dirty old carpet. Then I found Dehne. They answered my email promptly and cheerfully, and they assured me that my job sounded like something they could do, and they were interested in sending someone out to take a look. I immediately felt respected and taken seriously. Bobby came out, took one look at my balcony, and immediately knew what to do. He gave me a detailed description of the steps he would recommend, and he gave me the option to lower my final bill by picking up the outdoor paint myself. He left me with a folder of Dehne Handyman info, which included a login online so I could follow the progress of my job easily. We got it scheduled, and though we had to reschedule a couple of times due to rain, Amie was friendly, kind, and professional as she worked around my schedule to get it booked; I could tell she cared about getting this work done and done properly. Bobby was available early on the day of work and called ahead to let me know he could start a half hour early but if that did not work for me, he would wait for our scheduled start time. The final hours and charge were exactly to Bobby's estimate, and the finished balcony is clean and fresh. I have never worked with a contractor that put such an emphasis on professional communication. I always knew what was going on and what to expect and when. There were no surprises, and Bobby was one of the friendliest, kindest handymen I've had in my home. He got points with me right off the bat for being so nice to my cat, and the pride he takes in his work is evident. It's so important to be able to trust the people you allow into your home, and I felt at ease right away. When I asked for Bobby to be assigned to my job after my appraisal, they agreed right away; I really liked that I had the option to select my craftsman. Next time I need handyman help, I won't need to research at all - I will go straight to Dehne, and I know I'll get exactly what I need, with premiere customer service. I contacted Dehne Handyman via the Request a Quote feature. Owner Adam got back to me quickly, calling me early on Monday morning to discuss my project: I needed a handyman for two separate days to take down things in one location and then remount them in another (+ some additional work). I was initially really impressed with the enthusiasm, passion, and communication. The quote was also very attractive. Without going into tons of detail, the take down work by the handyman sent was done extremely quickly. In fact, it was haphazard: everything (screws, heavy furniture) was left in precarious positions and posed huge safety issues. I immediately reached out to Adam, who was apologetic and assured me it wouldn't happen again. I had the same handyman two days later. Again, long story short, things were done haphazardly. Shortcuts were taken, most of the work was not performed properly, and some of my property was damaged. Adam was again very apologetic. He came out one day himself to fix the "work" of his handyman, and sent his foreman out twice more to finish the repairs. Ultimately, things were fixed to the best of their ability (minus painting a spackled area behind a bookshelf). I was told that the handyman I was sent had been having personal problems for the last few weeks, and it was indicated that they had to fix other mistakes caused by this handyman as well. Given this, I'm confused about why he was allowed to work alone and continue to cause damages/not perform the tasks properly. I also think communication could have been better. Adam told me he would return the next day to finish repairs, and then passed the work along to his foreman. His foreman (Darrin) was great and thankfully skilled. However, Darrin did not have some materials required, so there seems to be communication breakdown there, too. Adam seems like a nice guy, and I liked him on a personal level. He also is skilled and knows his craft. I think he needs to improve both his judgment on who he sends out to what jobs, and make sure he communicates/follows through thoroughly. I'm REALLY torn between a 2 and 3 here, but am bumping up since they did a thorough job on the necessary repairs and genuinely tried to make things right. read more

Blew me off again, canceled a second time. Asked me to send photos of the work area so that he could provide a virtual quote. 10 days later, and he's completely ghosted me. I sent 2 followups that both went completely ignored. Busy? Maybe. Unprofessional? Definitely. My advice is to find someone better; you'll wait around forever for Dehne. read more

The first experience was this summer when we needed a privacy wall on the deck. Tony had an incredible concept that he executed beyond our expectations. Just finished a day job with Dehne Handyman guys. I am extremely happy with their work. They were professional and very careful with my house. Even for the simplest jobs, they still used tarp to cover the area and furniture they are working. They Were able to do the job of an electrician as well. I had a small job. Replace a door lock & mount outside security camera. But they quoted me & when I accepted the quote, they made a appointment for 6/8 @ 1pm. They sent me a reminder on Sunday. They never showed up or called. I emailed at 1:15, 1:30 & 1:43. No response. I called them at 1:45 & 2:00, the call went to voicemail and the voicemail was full. I have the emails & phone records to support my review. And in case they respond that they were here and I wasn't home or didn't answer, I also have security cameras in my house the will prove I was home waiting. They cost me 4 hours of PTO which takes me 2 weeks to earn & I get paid $25.00/hr x 4 hrs = $100.00. €*{¥ you! If they didn't want the small job, they should have declined. To accept and not show up, is juvenile. Evening edit....They called at 3:48 & I got the my internet was down excuse. I told him that's a dog-ate-my- homework excuse. I told him you cost me $100 & 4 hours of PTO. He didn't want to be yelled at by a girl & hung up. I called back, went to voicemail & it's full couldn't leave a message. I called back and again, full v/m. I called back, again full v/m. Did that 3x and then he picked up. He picked up & then hung up. Hmmm...why didn't he pick up my calls at 1:45 & 2 as I stupidly waited for them. If the internet is down and you can't work, why aren't you at the office fielding calls from pissed off customers who are at home waiting for them to show up. Why didn't they forward office# to the cell# ? So many holes in his piss-poor my internet is down excuse. At 3:51, I called back, he picked up & said I'm calling the police if you keep calling. (So call the police wlb because you're getting yelled by a girl. I wasn't vulgar, he just didn't like what say. Too bad. Did you really expect niceties when you blew me off. As Taylor Swift says...."If I were a man". If I were a man, I would have gotten respect) Moving on...my last call where he told me to stop calling was at 3:51 or he'd call the police. This is the same day Im doing this review, (2/16/21) same day Adam Dehne came to our residence and did the job. We have hired these people last year, trusting them, being kind and showing understanding, patience for slight mistakes. When you try to be so kind, so polite and so understanding, gentle, etc. sometimes is not good. You will be taken advantage. Dehne did some works for us in our Condo last year Summer, and many discrepancies were done, but we let it go as long as they came back and they fixed them, one of the guy named Tony and others. Adam Dehne tried to fix those and came over as part of work warranties. Was the work done? Yes. Was the work satisfactory? NO! Very much Incomplete, and saw this guy real attitude. When you say you are coming at 9am and showed up at 10am, that is rude, disrepectful. They need to understand client's time too not just their own time. If their time is precious, so does ours. Weather excuse, personal matter excuse, etc. those are part of life, they have to be separated from business dealings. Adjust your time and punctuality is gold, clients appreciate those. Had enough of it and wants to let people know kindness, patience, understanding, etc. can be bad when you know and feel you are being taken advantage of. Learned a great lesson from this... will never hire them again... advise people to do further research before hiring to avoid headache and distress. read more

It is not often that I leave reviews, but in this case I am unable to turn the other way.  The experience we had with this company was a complete joke.  There are a few highlights below of what we went through.  I wish I could turn back time and gone a completely different direction.   Our project: We had a wall taken down in between our kitchen and living room.  New drywall was installed on the exterior wall and ceiling.  Once the wall was taken down and drywall was installed we were left with a ridge down the middle of the wall. Also left behind was a sanding block for us to finish the sanding since they were not able to complete this job.  We asked multiple times about this ridge and were advised that there was a difference in the walls between the rooms so that is why there needed to be a ridge. There was mesh showing as well.  We trusted them as professionals even though it seemed weird.  We called them back because we really didn't feel comfortable sanding nor did we feel like this job was completed. They came back and assured us again nothing could be done to the ridge and did the best they could to fix the wall.  Not giving up on the ridge we called them back for a third time because if just didn't seem like this information was correct. It was at this time we learned the wrong size drywall was used and we had been lied to. They estimated 4 hours to fix this ridge in our wall. To spare boring you with details this 4 hours actually turned into 4 weeks which included multiple times where they tried to blow us off for the day, a TON of plaster and sanding, having someone in our kitchen every single day, our house a complete mess, and at the end of it all having a sub par job completed.  To make up for all the frustration we were offered a cleaning lady. The cleaning lady was one of the workers moms who showed up with two spray bottles and had to borrow a sponge from us.  She was here for less than an hour cleaning our stove. I do not blame her for this at all because nothing was communicated and everyone seemed very confused on the expectations.   As far as damages go and some laughable points- our brand new hardwood floors received a scratch, the clip on one of the can lights got broke,  we had to call them back because the can lights were installed using so much mud that the swivel light was not able to move, the can light was also installed at the wrong angle, and our light switch was installed upside down. Another fun part is that the hole that was cut for an outlet was cut way too big so that now even with an enlarged plate you can see the edge of the drywall.  The can lights do not sit flush with the ceiling, there is mud caked onto our brand new can lights, and the paper from the drywall is partially removed and peeling from when they initially cut to fit the can lights.  This was a big project for us and had met with many contractors prior to making a decision. We really trusted this company after meeting with them multiple times, and we're so excited about the work that was being done. It was a complete let down. When we have people come over we literally tell them 'just don't look up' because the drywall on the wall and ceiling still look awful. There are many people close to us who were always interested in updates and images of this project as it went along.  It was an opportunity for us to give a great review and really recommend this company yet based on our experience and the work that people have seen inside our house I am pretty sure they have all ran the opposite direction. read more

These guys are awesome! Lost power in my garage(required main line to be pulled), had a couple of sliding doors that came off the tracks, sink faucet that needed to be replaced. During the summer of 2021, in the Lombard Jewel parking lot, I spotted a white van labeled DEHNE HANDYMAN .After getting necessary information, I began my "take a chance" journey. The usual on-line places were booked too far out or went right to voice mail. Deal breaker. My estimate was written that Monday night, and work was done Friday. They were quick to respond, thorough in estimating, and worked hard on each task.. It's so satisfying to have all the nuisance problems fixed. The handyman was focused and packed a lot into every hour, including my last minute changes. Here's what I had done in 3-4 hours. --fixed kitchen faucet --corrected lopsided kitchen cabinets --caulked kitchen kick boards --replaced light fixture in closet --installed new closures on TV cabinet --stabilized Shoji screens Since I am not a "digital goddess", there were some communication problems-technical. Hospital shoe booties would probably also be appreciated by homeowners. Other than minor glitches, however, I am quite pleased with the DEHNE HANDYMAN company and have started my second "fixit" list. I am reminded of Warren Buffet's quote. Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. I got great value at a reasonable price. read more

I hired Dehne Handyman to install shower safety grab bars in my elderly mom's place. I was in a bind, as I had to leave town the next day, and had only a short window of time for the work to be done. He got the work done expertly and efficiently. The billing process was fair and transparent. From the initial meeting in which we went over a number of projects we'd be looking at possibly using them for, they have been not pushy and very accommodating. We hired them for a project in which we thought would be installing tile in a hallway and around a border that was destroyed after having drain tile put in the basement. As they started, they noticed mold issues under the existing tile and alerted us. Not only could they've just done the project, but they also gave us great suggestions on how we should go about the issue. Since then, it is a project that continues to grow, but they continue to do good work, at reasonable cost, and we're happy with all of the finished work thus far, including: - Attic Insulation - Tile Demo and Removal - Cement Leveling - Wood Laminate Flooring & Stairs (In Progress) They won't take just any job, they want to be proud of their work and have their customers satisfied. We have used Dehne Handyman twice now. The first time was about a year ago to do some light electric work, which we were happy with. They were prompt in doing the work and gave a fair price. We called them again to do some minor deck work and siding. Our second experience was vastly different. It has been SO hard to actually get ahold of someone. Five minutes before they were supposed to come out they canceled. After several weeks and so many calls/emails with no response at all, eventually I did speak with the owner, Adam. He was apologetic and had someone start the work the next day. However, it didn't get finished. That was 2 weeks ago. I got an email saying I'd get a call to schedule it, but so far got nothing. I think they are overwhelmed. I also think they do good work, but good luck actually getting then to show up/respond to you. read more

Adam and Joey came out to do three days worth of work to relocate the built-in fireplace mantle. This project was very time intensive and involved plasterboard and stone (re-)work. Adam and Joey did a phenomenal job with cutting the stone, remounting a few rows of stone, and re-building the built-in fireplace mantle. He also made certain that the fireplace mantle was securely fastened to the formwork behind the fireplace. He finished the project with plastering the area and re-painting the fireplace mantle and surrounding walls. Adam is very knowledgeable about the construction process, and he even warned me about the amount of construction dust that would result from cutting the stone. He did a good job, containing the dust, and even washed my floors after the project to pick-up the remaining the dust. I would hire Adam again for another project. Adam and Hali were great to work with and were very responsive throughout the process. read more

We said fine, a couple of hours after that we get an email that the appointment is canceled due to family emergency and to call to reschedule. We hired Adam with Dehne Handyman to work on our home. Refinish and paint existing kitchen cabinets; adding trim to the cabinets; changing handles; changing the hinges; installing a cabinet for an over- the- range microwave; change out two kitchen light fixtures; re-grout around the bath tub; fix a 3 x 10 area of drywall by tub; paint bathroom ceiling white; re-vent the exhaust fan in the bathroom so it vented outdoors; frame 5 interior doors. The first day of the project we asked him what it would cost to redo the backsplash around the kitchen cabinets and he gave us a quote. We agreed to add that to our list. The total project was supposed to be completed within 2 weeks. He was to provide us with receipts for materials as the quote was for labor plus materials. We did our homework and checked his reviews online and checked with the BBB. We interviewed 3 different companies and chose to work with Adam because he was the most reasonable and we liked that he was accredited with the BBB. BOY, WERE WE FOOLED! First of all, Adam started all of these projects and did not finish one before starting on the next. My home was in shambles. Adam brought a helper with him which he never mentioned prior to starting this project but we were okay with this. Tub had to be re-grouted several times because the grout kept cracking; they removed the old backsplash and attempted to add the new one. They didn't level the wall when they removed the old backsplash so it was uneven, and the corners around the window looked horrible. It became apparent that Adam was getting frustrated. We were starting week two and it seemed like the only thing that was going well were the door frames. He told us we were adding too many things to the list of work (things that he had already included, but didn't remember), and that it was going to cost more. He sat in my kitchen and gave me all these wonderful ideas that he was going to do which is part of the reason I hired him. I really started questioning his integrity. He didn't show up to work on Monday of the 2nd week because his back hurt from working the previous week. No problem. He showed up on Tuesday and when we asked if we could sit down and review our work order, he completely lost it and started yelling at us and wouldn't let us get a word in. I felt threatened and was prepared to call the police. We had already paid him in full and he took out his checkbook and asked what it would take for him to end his work and leave. He wrote a check for a fraction of the total and threw it at us and stormed out. His helper, Joey, apologized for his behavior and said he was really sorry. He left my garage full of debris and 7 bags full of garbage. He still left with 75% payment and did not complete any of the items. To top it off all the backsplash that we paid for is not salvageable. Every contractor we've brought in to assess the damage is shocked and can't believe how bad the work is and how they left it incomplete. Also, beware that his quotes are sent via a link in an email and he can change them at any time. If you don't print them immediately and he changes something, you'll never be able to go back and see it. STAY AWAY! This is not somebody I would recommend whatsoever. read more

I hired Adam for about a days work to help with some tasks in my Villa Park home. I am very happy with his work!! From re-caulking two bathroom showers/tub, to installing a ceiling fan in master bedroom, and lastly, fixing (sanding, plastering and re-painting) my entry door and a patch on wall that my dogs scratched up terribly. The work is fantastic. I am very impressed with how professional and kind Adam and Hali are. Adam also charges considerably less money than other Handymen. I really appreciate his work ethic.
