We used these people for years but the company sold and the service declined rapidly. The new owner is a bully. The staff, if any in the office, is incompetent and comes and demands payment for a bill long paid, two years later out of the blue. Horrid operation! My neighbors have long dropped this gruff bully. We requested a quote for lawn aeration. They came out and aerated w/o our permission or us signing a quote. They cut our invisible fence in three places. We have called three times with no response. It cost us $216 to have our fence fixed, in meantime Dekker sent us a bill for $110 for a service we never agreed to. We were not home when they aerated. I'd give zero stars if I could. read more

I had a problem with my sprinkler system over the Memorial Day weekend. I left a message on the Dekker office number. Even though it was a holiday, John Dekker called me and advised me what to do until he could come to my home personally. First thing Tuesday morning he was here! We used Dekker for years. Last year we had one bad sprinkler head that we called to have repaired. Eventually they came to perform the service. When they were done, we received an invoice for the replacement of 26 heads and 3 nozzles, well beyond what we requested. At no time did Dekker advise us that they we re making such extensive replacements and repairs nor did they advise why any of the 25 additional heads were being replaced. We learned of this after the service was concluded and they invoiced us for the work- nearly $900. There was no communication from them when they arrived to let us know that they were replacing all of the heads, and not just the one that was an issue. We paid the bill, and did not renew our service. As troubling as the experience was, the lack of response or concern when we inquired why they replaced 26 heads without any notice or communication prior was met with the same lack of response or explanation. When we cancelled the service, and shared the reason why, they were also non-communicative. This is my first business review. I felt my experience was so concerning that I should share with others so that they can take steps to prevent what happened to us. read more

The owner whom I'd never met after over ten years being a customer arrived to service my system. He arrived mean grumpy nasty and unprofessional because in order to access my box he needed to raise his feet a few inches and sit on a chair. He spoke to me nastily and as if he were doing me a favor and couldn't understand why I said he was being an ahole and ordered him to leave my property. I have used Dekker Irrigation for years. Two years ago my backflow unit needed repair. I was told by the people at Dekker that they could repair it. They had me send pictures of the unit. No one ever came to repair it. After several calls to their location the owner came to my home. He looked at the RPZ unit which had been installed in my basement . He promised to order the valve that needed repair. I never heard from him again. I stopped calling because I felt that they didn't care . I was appalled because I had been a loyal customer for years and had never had any prior problems with the company or its employees. I didn't expect to be treated in that manner from the owner of the company. I'm currently looking for a irrigation service. I would definitely never recommend Dekker Irrigation to anyone. I decided to try and give this company some business. Instead, all I received were empty promises and their unwillingness to do the job. The job was simple. Conduct a backflow valve test. This test is required by the town of Schererville and is a simple test to complete. I made my initial request over 4 weeks ago. Everytime I called to inquire about the scheduling of the job, their receptionist (Gabe) said he made the request to the person who does the testing (John), but he cannot give me a date that it is scheduled. The best he could do was say "hopefully, this can be done in coming week". The week went by, still no call. Still no backflow test. The second week went by. No call. No test. I called the business and got the same lame excuse. "Sorry, I don't know when it will be scheduled, but it should be in the next week". Finally, after 4 weeks, I called this business again. Spoke to the same individual. Asked him when this was scheduled for. His answer this time was "Oh, sorry. We don't schedule backflow tests. We do them when we can. I cannot give you a date. Needless to say, I told him "no thanks". I will find another lawn sprinkler company to do the job. And, I did just that. A Company we used to do business with, who has been in the Schererville area for decades. I made the call this past Monday (7/23). They were at my front door the next day Tuesday and completed the test. Not only that, they were $5 cheaper than Dekker (although, Dekker could have said they had a 99 cent special and it wouldn't have mattered, since they apparently don't schedule and complete backflow tests.) Based on my experience as outlined above, I would strongly discourage anyone from doing business with Dekker Lawn Irrigiation. Unprofessional. Has no clue what customer satisfaction is all about. And, it is apparent they simply don't care about taking care of a customer. read more
