If you hire Del Conte's Landscaping your property or community will smell like exhaust for a while. The exhaust their leaf blowers spew out makes me feel terrible and it's not great for developing children. It doesn't help that they come at the break of dawn on Mondays either. We rent and they were hired by the HOA, so we don't have much say in the matter; they're definitely one of the reasons this is only going to be a one year lease for us. If you hire them, make them upgrade their equipment to battery powered blowers. Sept 14, 2021 EDIT: Lowering to 1 star now, would be 0 if I could. Somehow the exhaust has gotten worse. The AQI today was 44, which is usually pretty good for this area, yet there was a haze above our community from this landscaper's equipment exhaust. It was almost impossible to breath outside. I cannot say enough good things about this company. So had my yard redone specifically because of a drainage problem during storms the job was completed in January 2020. After the 12/31/2022 rain where we got record rainfall in the Bay Area my house stayed bone dry and I live in Foster City on water. I was soooo happy. Michelle and her crew did an amazing job. The yard looks amazing and it has exceeded my expectations. My one suggestion as a customer listen to the professionals when their suggestions might not fit your design plan. For whatever reason, they either couldn't keep up, didn't have the right resources or they went through a rough patch. The intentions to do a good job were evident. I'm an employee at Stanford Shopping center, Sephora in Palo Alto. I was on my lunch break when I encountered their disrespectful employees who had very little regard for my white Volkswagen. Had I not been inside my car Witnessing this encounter, I would've eventually came out to my car; seeing it even more trashed than what they were doing. I believe we all work very hard for the things we have in life, for others to disregard our stuff is beyond disrespectful & should not be tolerated. Whether I have a Honda or a Rolls-Royce, I believe everybody's car should be treated with respect. This is exactly why I do not bring my other car, which is a 750I white BMW. my employers have even warned me to not bring my BMW to work because they have even witnessed these landscapers being careless with our cars. They prove that they cannot be held accountable or value professionalism. When I called the company, their secretary offered training for the men responsible as if that was going to fix my paint job. They were blowing leaves next to my car and I was trying to wave them down through my driver window since he was beside me, he pretended to not see me and step backwards and in front of my car and started blowing pebbles, debris rocks, branches from the tree onto my car. Resulting in me being locked in my car due to the fact that he was blowing all this trash directly on top of my car, As if to prove that he didn't care. I had to turn on my car and honk the horn to get his attention. By then he was irritated that I was upset by his actions. In conclusion, training is not sufficient and will not bring justice to my car or prevent them from doing it again seeing how they handled the situation. I am deeply disappointed and do not recommend this company at all! They have my information, I am still waiting for them to take the initiative to follow up with me since this just happened yesterday. read more

We hired DCL on a design-build project for our front-yard landscaping. The project included pavers for our driveway, redesign of the front-yard landscaping and walkways, installation of synthetic turf, installation of customer-provided fencing, and installation of a new irrigation system to support the design of drought-tolerant landscaping. The project went off without a hitch and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND DCL for any landscaping project. Michelle Planessi, their Designer, was incredible to work with. She was not just a fantastic designer, but she demonstrated a level of care, professionalism, creativity, responsiveness and follow-through unlike any designer / representative we have experienced with any home remodeling contractor. We hired Del Conte over 5 years ago to an approximately $1/4 million backyard project. Almost immediately we had issue Almost all of the trees were of very poor quality many died, we had issue with all of the fruit trees. They all had split trunks (I am guessing these were cheaper). The stone work was awful. It immediately started sinking in certain areas and is now a tripping hazard. The quality of workmanship was terrible. We had to have steps ripped and replaced during the project. They installed a very expensive lighting system, but didn't have the experience to do so. The installed lighting on our Palm trees but did not seal the end pieces which got wet and were destroyed. We are now going to spend a significant amount if money having pieces torn out and replaced. We live in downtown Pleasanton on a smallish 5000 sq ft lot. The yard that came with the house was pleasant enough to look at, but it lacked a lot of function and utility, so we made the decision to build an outdoor kitchen. We started by engaging an architect who designed a beautiful outdoor kitchen with upstairs deck, extended roof line, wrap-around porch, and a wall of windows. Despite giving him our budget ahead of time, he completely blew past what we could spend, taking our money without so much as a hint of remorse for being a tool. So we then decided to just do the backyard. Michelle Planessi at Del Conte was the first to call us. She was immediately responsive and helpful. She came to our house and met with us, interviewing us to see what we wanted. Based on that, she drew up designs so we could see what she was thinking. And from there, we were sold. They built a backyard that is an absolute paradise. It had modern touches like an arbor with aluminum trim. We included a large water feature and a customer L-shaped fireplace - both Michelle's designs. We have a stained concrete patio with basalt inlays - also Michelle's. Now, we had a deal on the table (design and price). The very next morning, they had their crews doing demo and getting started. The owner of Del Conte (Tom) was in our backyard the next morning talking through with his crews how to handle drainage. Then he spent time with me and my husband to talk through the plans and timelines. We were so impressed that we extended the plan to include an outdoor kitchen on the side. Del Conte designed a covered kitchen with all the amenities we could want. That went so well that we then had them work on the front yard as well. She designed a modern-looking fence and added in basalt stepping pads and clinging roses. Now this is where it got really good for us. The crews were so helpful and responsive. If we had questions, they explained it to us. If we had changes, they would do and re-do things as they needed. They figured out how to build an eco-gel fireplace. They worked with our electrician to coordinate the lighting and heating. They got all the permits for us. They worked with the civil engineers to get the appropriate designs for the city. They called us frequently to explain things. They took us to the nursery to get plants so we could see what they were picking out. Michelle picked plants that were dog friendly because our pets eat everything. They added a dog run so they didn't poop all over the nice areas. They added new irrigation and timers. The project was FANTASTIC. It was so good that we were featured in the Pleasanton garden tour. We have had numerous folks stop by the house and ask to see the backyard. This thing was great. Tom (the owner) took us out for dinner and talked through the project. Michelle has been so engaged with us that our dogs no longer bark at her. Del Conte was professional and friendly. We would happily show off our yard to anyone considering Del Conte as a design and build landscaper. It was absolutely the best decision we could have made. read more

The final design went far beyond my expectations, incorporating my ideas with some of his. The gentlemen working for Del Conte were professional, hardworking, and pleasant. This project took months, yet each day, they were prompt, cleaned up as much as possible. They were a hardworking team! My yard is now a showplace. I have recommended them to friends and neighbors. We've worked with Del Conte's on a new home in Menlo Park around 2015. They had a good-sized crew who worked hard and delivered quick and attractive results. We were so impressed with their work that we recommended them to another client in 2018 for a major remodel in Los Altos. That project has worked out really nicely as well. They did great design, but that was all. Their implimentation was okay. But once we wrote the check, they were done with us. The sprinkler system they installed is messed up. The plants the planted are all dying. We asked them 3 times to come out and tell us what was wrong. I wanted to know if we were doing anything wrong to maintain everything. I will never use them again. We spent over $14k on our back yard and we need have alot of it redone. They actually called me a week ago asking for a design fee of $500 that they think was never collected. I told them they were crazy. If they want that fee, then come over and fix what you messed up!!! read more

I don't know who hire this guys to do landscaping in my condo area. They can not even cut the grass right. They Leave bold spots on the grass because they never sharpen the blades on their grass cutters. They kill regular plants by spreading weed killer everywhere.They pull plants and trees that the owners of the condos plant and throw them in the garbage instead of saving them just to please the mob association that runs the place. And the worst is that they claim that they specialize in applying water saving techniques but instead waste great amounts of water on slug infested grass that should have been replaced by mulch or stones long ago! read more

i have to say that it all started out just fine. one of the designers came to look at the property and gave an estimate. i had four landscaping people look at my property and delmonte's folks followed up quickly. i had my own ideas and he let me run with it without pressuring me to pay for design services. but he showed me some of his work and i decided that i would use them to design part of my backyard and front lawn. there was a follow up and they returned to measure the space. i decided to go with them because they were the first to get back to me. we divided the work into four phases and decided to do one at a time. and then it started cracking. i got price estimates. i looked at it and found them to be reasonable. i have worked with landscapers before and i am aware of the sticker shock effect. i went into this knowing how much it will cost me. no, they are not cheap and one can certainly find cheaper labour elsewhere. but considering that their men are insured and (i hope) are paid decent wages, it was acceptable. they were not insanely expensive and they were local. these were the reasons i decided to go with them. the job involved a deck removal, flagstone pathway and steps. because i had a time deadline, this job was to finished in four days and it was decided that the steps would be done at a later date even though it was part of the job. the day before i was going to sign the contract, i found out that the steps were not included in the price quote. i asked for a quote knowing that this will strain my budget. the representative came back with a quote of $2850 for three concrete steps with flagstone. (hmm..really?) at this point, knowing that estimates are not hard price quotes, i was having second thoughts. the first quote was reasonable to me only because i had a 10% margin for 'unforeseen expenses'. with this extra $2850 for the steps and the extra contingency margin(which is my own, of course because i dont trust any job to not go over budget..better to budget for it than be taken by surprise), it was way over my budget. i looked at the estimates from the other guys... one of them would have been more expensive than delconte, the other hadnt gotten back to me and one more was somewhat the same. because we had come this far, i decided to go ahead with del conte. but i still had $1000.00 less to pay them in my budget. yes. it all came down to $1000.00. i explained my position to the representative and told him that i not only wanted a hard quote in the contract, but also a reduction in the quote. he started talking and i really didnt hear anything after i thought i heard him say, "nobody is working for free. we have to pay the men." hmm..say what? at this point i lost it. from my position, i wasnt playing hard ball nor did i negotiate or bargain or ask for a reduced pricing until i was taken by surprise by the extra $2850 at the very last minute (literally 45 mts before signing the contract) for the steps which was part of the job anyways. whats the point of removing a deck and putting a flagstone pathway if you cant get to it? my other issue was that i didnt get to see the flagstone samples. i didnt know how thick it was nor did i get to see the colours available. flagstone is sold by the ton and it comes in varying thickness. obviously thicker is better as it wont shift(my pathway was to be set on sand, not concrete). i wasnt told any of this and i only came to know this when i was doing research after saying goodbye to delmonte. i am glad that i didnt go with them because i got the job done by someone else and found out that delmonte was way off with the estimates re time/quantities. would i recommend them? yes, but with reservations. do your research. and negotiate. noone is working for free, this is true..but noone is asking del conte for charity work either. read more

Their work team implemented Eric's design and when we wanted some changes, they were accommodated without incident. The team was very efficient and professional. del conte really is bad - if blowing away the debris is award winning then they definitely get the award - bunch of the laziest workers i've evr seen. sweep, bend over to pick up that twig - no way! (their own words) but boy can they operate those noisy blowers - blow the shit everywhere - i am constantly cleaning up after them - just washed your car - you can be sure after del conte is there your clean shiny car will be covered in dirt - thanks del conte - oh and like they don't have accidents? please explain how my window got broken - sorry they don't and won't cover that - they were just here to "fix" the sprinkler system - yes it works now - and still is - running for hours now and all that water down the drain! award winning yep! read more
