We got the backyard done with someone else due to lower price ( Not by much but we did not know any better. ) we love the design but the decision to not go with Jefferson was something I regretted so when it came time to redo Frontyard the only person I consoled was Jefferson. I wanted to see the work they could do in a part of my front yard before moving forward with the rest of my front and back yard. My tiny backyard was just finished and I believe it will take a tsunami to get me back inside. I contacted a few places and most responded with " it's too small". Jeff came out and took a look. We discussed my usage and got to work. I have a 65+ year old orange tree to be considered. Planting anything under it was a death sentence.....the tree is QUITE prolific! So, we made some tweaks to the planting. ADDITIONAL request was a specific color concrete (green) AND all white flowers. So, small and specific requests. I had a budget in mind just like I had with my kitchen about ten years ago, and my bathroom 2 years ago. I went over on all of them and I have been happy with all the projects. I had 70 year old concrete to be torn out and it was HORRIFIC. But the tear down team was fabulous!! We had to move a lot of items around THEN the AMAZING concrete crew had to move everything out of THEIR way!!it was like a game of checkers. The concrete work is amazing! Then the planting/finishing crew came in and did great work. They were so pleasant to have around. Jacob and Olly work SO well together and even helped me keep my dog from getting out!! We recently bought a home we really like. There was nothing except dirt and a long retaining wall in the backyard when we moved in though! The HOA gave us 90 days to get a design and a year to install it. We wanted a company that did both but never did this before. We weren't even sure if a company like that existed or if we had to hire a landscape architect first. We hadn't even finished moving in when I saw a sign in my neighbor's yard. Jefferson Landscape: From Design to Finish. I took a picture of it with my phone and text it to my wife. A couple weeks after we were there (boxes still stacked) we walked over to introduce ourselves and ask about their landscape project. Jefferson Landscape were gone by then. Our neighbor took us in their backyard and I was sold right away. She told us about their experiences with other landscapers and said Jefferson was by far the best. She told us she thought they were reasonably priced. They got three bids and Jefferson was in the middle, priced closer to the least expensive quote. During the conversation she mentioned their quality work (which we could see), how organized and professional they were and that they were great with communication. As soon as she said that my wife and I laughed. My wife is a stickler for communication! We found our landscape contractor. When Jeff and Emilio came out and we spoke to them about what we wanted but not where it would go. We liked them right away. They seemed very knowledgeable and took notes while we looked at pictures of their work. We hired them to do the plan first. They said if we hired them to do the landscaping, the plan cost would go toward it. We liked that. The plan looked better than I expected. They had a breakdown of the price to go with it. We had a couple of changes. We added a hot tub with an arbor standing over it and asked Jeff if he could draw it on a separate concrete pad and put it in the corner. Jeff suggested we keep it next to the back door and said he could fit it in the corner closer to the waterfall. That made more sense. We submitted the plan to the HOA and a month after it was approved, they did the work. My wife and I were happy. We received regular updates on the progress either from Jeff or Emilio. They had a plant list for us to go over, we picked out the color for our concrete, the kind of lights we wanted--they even helped us find an electrician. Brilliant Electric, who were also great. Now we just need to buy the hot tub! At the end of the job they not only showed us how to operate the lights and the sprinklers, they provided us with printed instructions. We're very happy with Jefferson Landscape and Design and highly recommend using them for any landscape project. They are very professional and easy going. We never had any problems with them leaving a mess or upsetting the neighbors either--they even brought their own toilet! They had to leave some of the bark and dirt in the street, which I guess is typical, but only for a couple nights. They put those orange cones out. The job only took 2-3 weeks. Everything was done on time and budget with no surprises, just like Jeff said. They stuck to their price. These guys are great! read more

I had a very strange and awkward experience with this company. In my experience, they are unreliable, rude and untrustworthy, so I would strongly recommend against engaging with them. I called them to ask if they would be interested in helping finish a waterfall that was already started. Right off the bat, the owner was dismissive and condescending - telling me he is very busy and doesn't have time. He then agreed to come out and we locked on a date and time. I texted him early in the day to confirm and did not get a response. Sure enough, no one showed up for the appointment. The owner called after the time had passed and said something about his text messages getting deleted (what?). No apology, no acknowledgement of missing our appointment. He said he is sending one of his guys like it was a favor to me. The guy came out and we discussed scope and price. We agreed to it and agreed that we would get in touch later in the week to firm it up. I called the number he gave me and the line was dead. After a few days, I got in touch with the owner via text again asking about timing only to receive a two word response "not interested". Without explaining what happened or taking the time to have a proper conversation. I can only assume the this is how they treat all of their customers, unless someone is willing to grossly overpay for their work. Maybe that's the only time they exhibit any sense of customer service. If this is how they treat you BEFORE they start a job, I can only imagine what a nightmare it must be to work with them. read more

I am very impressed with the front yard that was designed and worked on by Jeff's team. Our whole front yard was filled with black tanbark everywhere. My father in law removed all it all and had our front yard bare with dirt. We found company on yelp and decided to get a quote because most of the work that was done looked good and the business has been running for a while now. Jeff was fast to contact me with an email and he came to our property once some restrictions were lifted with this COVID pandemic. My husband and I honestly had no idea on what we wanted our plan to look like and figured Jeff was the professional and he could help us with a vision. He said design usually takes up to a week -- this guy had a sketch design ready for us in two days. We thought it was a great plan, but was a bit over budget. Just wanted to stop and take a minute to thank the guys at Jefferson Landscape and Design for coming out and doing such a great job building my pond and waterfall. My wife, the kids and I all love it! I can't believe how easy it is to take care of. All I have to do is feed the fish! The lights come on automatically, the water refills when it evaporates, and they built an overflow pit that keeps the pond from overfilling. And man was it put to the test these past months! They don't usually come out this far, but Jeff said he'd consider coming up for a pond since it would take less than a week. In fact, I hired him on the phone! It took them four days. We were so impressed with the way Jefferson Landscape and Design transformed our backyard last year, we invited them back to tackle our front yard this summer. Having worked with them before, we knew we were in capable hands. We used their consultation questionnaire, but otherwise gave them the artistic freedom to design our front (the way they did our back) and were once again happy with the results. Our front yard was bland and boring and lacked any real curb appeal. Our home is higher than the street and the original concrete steps from the driveway were in bad shape. Contracted Jefferson Landscaping to do a $20,000 landscaping job. The design and appearance of the work is very good, however the follow up service is extremely poor. Three weeks after planting, two of the five $850 redwood trees were dead. (Photos attached). This is the third house I've completely landscaped. Even in freezing, snowy Lake Tahoe new trees are guaranteed for the first year. Hell, even Home Depot guarantees their trees. I contracted Jeff and he had absolutely no interest in replacing the dead trees. Inexcusable customer service on a $20,000 job. Interestingly, my gardener replaced the dead trees with healthy trees of the same size for $275 per tree. A third of what Jefferson charged me. Really disappointing service. Before you use Jefferson I recommend you ask about a warranty on the expensive items and definitely compare prices! read more

I picked this company based upon the pictures from their website and Yelp. I didn't want straight lines or a patchwork solution to my already 40 year old patchwork. I wanted an artistic approach with flowing lines and everything in the yard could go. Jeff is definitely a landscape artist. After a few uninspiring meetings with different contractors offering "free" design, I called Jefferson Landscape for a stand-alone design consultation. Jeff met with me the next day at my home and went over his design process. He brought along some examples of his past work (all of which looked great) and shared some initial thoughts on what we could do with our yard. His price for design was reasonable, and we appreciated that he would roll the design cost into construction should we choose to hire him to do the installation (which we did). Fast forward two weeks, and the design that Jeff showed us blew away our expectations. Jeff and his guys were very transparent on scheduling the installation, and completed all of their work on time and to budget. My project was to install driplines and sprinkler timer for my front lawn and backyard. Jeffrey is the owner of the company. Although this is a very small project for his company, which is mainly a design and build landscape company, he agreed to come to take a look. The next day, Jeffrey and his assistant Westley came to my house in Newark. Jeffrey is a very experienced, knowledgeable and resourceful professional. He is a straight shooter. He talked me out of installing a full-blown dripline in my backyard as it is not economical (who does not want to make more money?). He presented to me a very reasonable quote for my front yard work, which I accepted. I have to note Jeffrey's team require contract signature and deposit before the work starts, which I was not accustomed to at the beginning. But trust me, they are reliable and trustworthy. I have a broken pipe in the front yard that connects to the backyard. I asked Jeffrey to connect the broken pipe to the main sprinkler system. Because the difference in height and the narrow space, it was engineeringly challenging. But Jeffrey found an innovative U-shape solution to have it connected to the rest of the sprinkler system. I am very pleased with his hard work and deep thinking for solutions in the best interest of the customers. If you want someone to start a project from design to finish, Jerfferson Landscape is the one to hire. After years of delay, we finally decided to re-do our entire backyard. Last year we hired a paver company to do the work. Paver turned out nice, but the rest of the yard wasn't quiet complete. After our first meeting with Jerfferson Landscape in February, the owner came back with the designs on the a blueprint which took into our inputs. We were so surprised by the layouts and hired him at the review meeting. The quote was in itemized details. Then COVID hit. During the downtime, he kept us in the loop and continued to finalize the plant lists. The project finally started in May and finished in 2 1/2 weeks. He incorporated our existing mature tree in our backyard and furnished with many new plants, flowers, walk ways, irrigation, lights, and a pond-less waterfall. His three workers are very hard working. They worked in the 90+ degree during in those weeks. After they completed, he came back at least twice to change out some plants that aren't doing well in the the extreme heat. Jeff cares his works and wants to be perfect. We hired Jefferson to totally redo our backyard, from design through implementation. They were great. Jeffrey created a design after meeting with us to understand what we wanted. He listened to our ideas and goals and came up with something great. We just had Jeff redo our entire back yard and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out! From start to finish, Jeff was super easy to work with, he was always easy to reach and we really appreciated his design insights. Our backyard was mostly just dirt with 3 tiers and had boring straight rectangle lines dividing each tier. We wanted something more natural and just a place where we would want to hang out at. So we tore out all the old concrete, old boards separating the trees, everything...and put in artificial grass, a new moss rock wall, lighting, new patio around the fire pit, plants etc. Jeff and his team even fixed up our retaining wall that crumbled down. I will never use Jefferson Landscape & Design ever again! Our neighbor posted here as Cody S. had been working with the company for work on their property. The shared fence between our homes needed to be replaced and it was suggested to use Jefferson Landscape. At the initial meeting and signing of the contract Jeff the owner made the suggestion of changing out the fence boards and kick board of a small portion of my existing fence while keeping the existing post. My wife and I agreed with Jeff's great idea and this was part of the contract. Because the existing post would not need to be replaced, Jeff discounted the price of the gate by $200. This work was never done. In the contract it stated that our old gate would be removed for disposal ("Apportioned Disposal Fee (Existing Fence/Gate $240). The was never done. In addition the gate itself is to short. There is a 6 inch gap at the bottom which was not the case with the previous gate. I send texts to Jeff expressing my concerns to which i did not get any response until my wife left him a voicemail and then that same day i got a response to the text I left a week prior. Through text communications I shared this information with Jeff and how my neighbor's gate was removed and mine was not. Jeff responded that there was still a balance due but that I could keep the money and that the job was complete. He wrote that not removing the gate was and oversight, but never wrote that someone from his company would come pick up the old gate. He did not address my other concerns. In response I sent another text stating that I was willing to pay the remaining balance but needed the remaining work to be done, the old gate removed and the length of the gate to be fixed. It has been at least a week since I sent my last text and there has not been any response from Jeff or a Jefferson Landscape representative. read more

They tore out all of the old dead and dying lawn and shrubs and replaced them with a color-filled variety of plants and bushes. They also built a wonderful retaining wall of moss rock, which frames the yard perfectly. I left all the decisions up to Jeff in terms of plants and hardscape; I couldn't be happier with the result. We just had Jeff and crew finish work on our front and back yard. We had nothing more than dying lawn all around and a handful of ideas of how we would make the space most usable for our 2 young children. From the first call I had with Jeff, I could tell he was going to turn the very general ideas we had into something the entire family could enjoy. Jeff took his time to walk us through the different options, took our input on what functional areas we wanted, and laid out a well thought out design. His excitement in the design was apparent. Our daughter has moderate to severe allergies so we wanted to make sure anything we put in would be agreeable to her. Jeff did a ton of homework and worked with us very closely to find the appropriate plants and trees while still maintaining the vision he had. No easy task but Jeff delivered. Jeff was very accommodating, even welcoming, on some of the small design changes that cropped up as the project progressed and even worked some magic on creating unexpected features like a peekaboo through the fence for the kids and dog to still be able to see out! If it was reasonable, Jeff did everything he could to make sure we got the yard we wanted. The man clearly knows his stuff and never once tried to upsell me on anything unnecessary (he actually talked me out of a couple things that wouldn't have been worth it). He sent me updates via text and phone and even though I knew he was busy and juggling different tasks, I never felt like things weren't progressing or that he wasn't paying attention to our project. This was my first time using a landscape service and the outcome was amazing and more than I could hope for. I had a really small front yard with grass that looked terrible and no shrubs. Jeff and his staff (Alejandro) met with me, showed me pictures of his beautiful work, and sketched a design for my space. My only request was to have shrubs/plants that would attract hummingbirds. I had my entire backyard demolished and redesigned it with stamped concrete, a pondless waterfall, and a new lawn! Jeffery Zima, the owner, was thorough, listened to my ideas of wanting a serene/peaceful & hummingbird/butterfly friendly environment and he incorporated them into his design. I contacted Jefferson Landscape in April to get a design for my backyard which was in deplorable condition due to demolition of an existing room and decking. I was anxious to get it done before summer and Jeff came to the rescue. Jeff and his crew completed the design and landscape of our front and side yard. Jeff was most helpful in helping us come up with a design that met our needs, and even created a professional drawing (plan) to submit to our HOA for approval. Jeff was also helpful in making suggestions for a "dryscape" plan for our front yard, which included new concrete steps and walkways (stamped and colored concrete), rocks and pebbles, new plants, new drip irrigation, and even lighting. The project was completed on time and within our budget. Jeff was also great in communicating when he would be on-site, and asked us questions if he wasn't sure about what we may like or not like for the "look" of our front yard.
