I am so happy I decided on Canterbury Woods. Their nursing personnel are their greatest asset. I had a complicated med administration schedule with multiple overlapping medical diagnoses that would have caused havoc at a facility that wasn't as patient-centered and flexible. A culture of respect and care seemed to be strong at every level of the organization's structure. I observed administrators frequently interacting with staff and patients . The environment was homey, not clinical or stark. There were some oddities-such as the location of the shower facilities, but these were comparatively minor quirks. There was a bright activity room that encouraged patient interaction and an adjacent sunny flower filled patio available for patients. I was struck by the level and quality of staff-patient interactions and noted that the staff wasn't permanently attached to computers but focused on patients and their needs. A tech from CHOMP comes once a week to do blood draws, the in-house physician read my file before she saw me on her "rounds" She was observant, sensitive, listened , was compassionate, and did a good job coordinating my care. Some of the other highlights? The OT and PT staffs are superior. The food is incredible, and there is a set "comfort food" menu available for every meal service if the options on offer aren't appealing. I know I am forgetting something, but whatever it is most likely positive.

The Independent Living Facility provides delicious meals, supportive living on a personalized scale, and options for meaningful and engaging social activities. All of this takes place in a clean, serene, and beautiful environment. This multi-level care community is a truly special place, by far the best in the County in my opinion. We had initially visited Songbird, their Salinas location, because we know two other families who have loved ones residing there, but felt that Carmelo Park was a better fit for mom. It has been nearly two years since she moved in and she has adjusted well. Sadly, I can tell you that there are other, larger, facilities on the Monterey Peninsula where staff members do not even know the names or medical conditions of the residents they serve. That is not the case with Carmelo Park. The staff treat my mom like family because it is run by a family, not a large corporation. From the activities, parties, snacks, and music, to the loving care she receives, we couldn't have asked for more regarding mom's care. I can wholeheartedly recommend Carmelo Park and feel that their caring staff and administrators have been a blessing in all our lives. This is a fallow up of the previous review I did for Heartland Hospice…read more I had called them to pick up their equipment (an oxygen concentrator and a walker) on Monday because I was never admitted as a patient since I ended up in the hospital. They had delivered this equipment right after I had spoken to someone about becoming a patient. I can't believe they even sent me this equipment since I wasn't formally a patient! It is now Friday and the driver who picked up the equipment on Monday forgot the walker and it is still on my porch! Also when I called on Monday the woman I spoke to was very upset with me saying I kept refusing service, three times. I told her to read my Yelp review because it explained that I only refused once when a man wanted to come out to see me on Saturday. I was never asked if I preferred males or females. So he told me a female nurse would call me Sunday and she never did. Then on Monday when a female nurse did come out to do the intake, I told her I had to go to the hospital because I thought I had broken a bone in my foot. The pain was excruciating and I could hardly walk. The nurse told me if I go to the hospital then I can't be a patient of Hospice. Since I needed an x-ray of my foot, I went to the hospital. This is why I was never a patient and it explains why I refused their services only once. If you call that refusing! The bottom line is I cannot recommend this company!
