As a resident just up the street from The Original Del Taco, I have become a regular customer! Their food and service are excellent: Juan, Fabian, Jesús, Jayden, Nick, Gabriel, Kelley, Jasmine, Josiah, and all the rest of their some 25+ staff members treat me with the utmost courtesy and professionalism. Was told this was the place to go because the tacos are done right and huge. They were right. Also my friends recommended the bun taco. Place looks really nice and even the bathrooms are great. Just really well maintained and very clean inside. Staff was super friendly and they didn't flinch when I asked for the bun taco to get red sauce; they said no problem. They let me know they were proud of their quality. I will definitely come by here again next time going past by the 15. Even though the couple extra minutes added on, it's better than going anywhere else. read more

Used to be my absolute favorite place to eat. I'm not sure what happened. Used to order a macho fry and it came in a cup, now you get half of what you used to, the burgers used to come in a box and were filling, now the burgers are wrapped in paper, smooshed together and I've never seen patties so thin. The taco salad isn't even a taco salad anymore , it's crunched up taco shells. It seems like they cut their portions in half, and the prices went up. They used to have really great employees working there, now the night crew messes up my order almost every time I go through the drive thru. I'm not sure if new management moved in or what, but it's not the Del Taco I used to love. read more

This Del Taco is probably worthy of 4.75 stars The restaurant area is very clean. The counter staff was super friendly & they bring your food out to you. I've actually never really sat down & eaten in a DT, so I'm not sure if this is the norm. Anywhoo...these were by far the best chickn soft tacos I've ever had, from any DT. They were just stuffed with goodness! The burritos were definitely legit too. The biggest I have ever seen from a DT. Just about as long as my forearm & nearly as thick...True story! Also, the bathrooms outside are very clean. Just watch out for the water pressure. Let's just say I looked like I pee'd myself. Unfortunately, also a true story :( Before I left, I had to shout out how much I enjoyed my visit here & how it was the best DT I had ever been to, to the employee that took our order. I had a nice "Bun taco" which is a replica of "Taco Bell's own" "Bell Beefer" from the 70's. I hope that later either Del or Bell bring this thing up to the mark and adds more cheese and onions and a glass of Dell taco "sparkling wine". It was ok with more meat than taco bell gave me in the 70's. You can only get this bun taco in Barstow, i heard. The Del on first street near that bridge, in Barstow. Great! read more

Yes it's still just fast food so don't expect sit down restaurant style food if you've never had it before. But this place is amazing. I came here for the original barstow taco. They LOADED our tacos up. I mean... the insides were falling out. I love that they understand value. The bathrooms were also ridiculously clean. The sink shined like the moon and that's a huge compliment coming from me. The workers were also friendly and never hesitates to put the customer first. It is an interesting location, it is the "Original" Del Taco location, but it is a brand new building. We drove by it, we saw it, but drove by, looking for the Original Del Taco, expecting an old building. Inside they have the original logos and Del Wear. They also have classics like the Bun Taco, which may or may not be able to be ordered off menu at other locations, and is better than the new Naugles, but not as good as the memory of Naugles. Didn't matter to us, but we constantly heard people trying to order current menu offerings, which they do not serve, no Epic burritos or other items, it is very limited. read more

So just popped my Yelp review cherry ironically at the 1st Del Taco location. I'm a sucker for historical fast food locations, so driving the few extra miles from the freeway made it worth it to me. This location has a special Barstow menu that offers items only available at this particular location including the stand-out Bun Taco, Tostada, and Barstow Taco (all pictured). We decided to stop at this particular Del Taco due to it's history. It's the oldest operating Del Taco (Corporate #1) even though it has been renovated. They do feature special Barstow menu items featuring the crispy beef tacos and chicken soft tacos. They are still observing Covid19 protocols and everyone is still wearing masks as of 5-16-21. They do allow indoor dining at this time. I got the Barstow crispy beef tacos meal and my girlfriend got the Barstow chicken soft tacos meal. The special Barstow Tacos looks to have double the meat and cheese portions then your normal Del Taco stores. If you are nostalgic and want to drive out to Yermo, CA to see the location of the very first Del Taco it's a short 15 minute drive. It's not an operating Del Taco Restaurant but it does have a sign on top of the roof saying it was the first Del Taco location. It is an operating restaurant called Tita's "Burger Den". The good: lots of parking, courteous staff, clean restrooms, and seemingly a lot more meat and cheese in their tacos and burritos compared to other locations. The only downside is that they don't take national "free" coupons that are occasionally emailed or offered as an incentive to purchase gift cards. read more

So I've not had many great experiences with Del Taco, in fact it has been my least favorite Mexican fast food restaurant for years! But on this recent family road trip, I can see why not all Del tacos are equal or should I say the same. What a great place! Their service and quality of food was great. If I had a Del Taco like this one by my house, I think my perception would be different. So my review is not for all Del Tacos, just this one. I'm not a Del Taco fan. At all. But I only have one more birthday in California so we use them to knock something off our Cali bucket list. Thus...we visited the original, or oldest one standing, depending who you talk to. The staff was great and my son and husband (both great fans of Del Taco) said it was head and shoulders above other Del Tacos. It was a bit dirty (and bathrooms had no TP) so it didn't get the full five stars. I would however recommend it, even if you're not a fan of their food. It's California iconic history. So I drive to Victorville everyday for work and I always see this bill board sign about the Best and First Original Del Taco in Barstow. This weekend while driving to Laughlin we decided to try it and compare it to the Del taco close to our house. So on the way home from Laughlin we made the stop in Barstow and picked up a Deluxe chili cheese fry. I usually purchase this at our del taco close by our residence. The fries were crispy with a fluffy inside and the chili was delicious topped with shredded cheddar cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream. Now the was a pretty good deluxe chili cheese fry. But they forgot one thing, they did not put any onions on it. The other place by our house does. So with that the one in Barstow will always be the first del taco but the second best. I will still eat there of course. read more

Have been going to Del Taco for over forty years, and never had a problem until now. My family recently moved to the area. My son went to Del Taco, bought a Fiesta Pack and fries. When I looked at the receipt, I saw they charged us for each item in the Fiesta Pack separately, about twice the price of the meal. I called the store, the employee was very rude and rushed off the call, but not before quoting the price of a Fiesta Pack at $24 - $25! I double checked their menu online, and even called another store, a Fiesta Pack costs $11.99 - $12.99! Also, the food was badly made and wrapped, with fillings falling out in the wrappers. I contacted their corporate office about the pricing problem, but they haven't bothered to get back to me. After forty years, I'm saying a regretful goodbye to Del Taco. read more

I absolutely love the Barstow DT. In no way does it compare to any other franchise store. The food is simply better. So let me lay out my negatives because there is less negatives than positives. This location recently went through a renovation (check Out my Pics) Since I am such a fan I am hoping and praying the the food does not go through the same renovation. They have a fly problem which I began to notice after we ate. I counted at least 20 from my seat. So gross but I would still eat there today (the following day). First, forget steamed tortillas, ever wonder why your tortillas taste like the refrigerator? Thats because they were steamed. Here the tortillas are heated on the grill which gives it a doneness and nice flavor with a stronger, crispier tortilla which holds better in sloppy burritos. The combo Cup something not on any other menu. So good! Cheese, meat sauce and beans simple and tasty. yum with a bag of chips. Did I say yum? Table service what table service? yup table service. No need to tip. LOL. Finally they have more than one toilet and urinal to share. A fulll bathroom. I have see that others like the dollar menue and stuff but I have to be honest the food is simply better here, The Barstow Taco or the tostada its so good. The reason I love it here so much is because it remonds me of when food was good at drive the drive thru. For those of us 40 and over you know what I mean, food was fresher and better. Fast food joints tasted like they made their food in house and not trucked a=in and re-heated. Well thats what this place is like. read more

I went in for taco night. It is not the same no more all my tacos are cracked and there was hardly any meat very disappointing. I guess I have to have a taco salad now. We are from the Gardena area, but have our RV business is in Barstow. On our way back to Gardena, we stopped by Del Taco, Store # 013 on 1st Street. I could not believe my eyes! I have never ever been in such a clean and immaculate establishment! It was so clean, I could have literally eaten off the floor. All supplies were filled and special attention was given to clean every spot in the place....counters, tables, every nuke and cranny was so clean. It was unbelievable. I spoke to the manager and I commented on what I saw and he graciously said,"I have a good team working with me." Over my 75 years I've been in a lot of eating places, but this one was amazing. I totally recommend it to anyone living there or just passing through Barstow. read more

Let's get the logistics out of the way. First and foremost, this is NOT the first Del Taco. The original (first) Del Taco opened in Yermo (just up the freeway from this location) and has since been decommissioned and has no ties what so ever with Del Taco corp of today. This location however, is now the OLDEST Del Taco in existence and you can tell just by the old styling of the order counter and the entrance to the place. The other perks I liked were the sauces were nicely lined in their own baskets at each table and the "off menu" that you can't get at other locations. It is a bit off the freeway, but is worth it if you haven't eaten yet and are big on road side nostalgia. Ordered a couple of the Barstow tacos which looked like their regular beef tacos, but "beefed up" (more beef than they regularly put) with the nicely shredded cheese. I also believe one of the owners still actually takes orders (though he wasn't here on my visit) and still works among his employees. Great for nostalgia seeing that Del Taco has stepped up their offerings for a while now. Would come back especially since the prices are really good and you get a full complete meal for what it is. It isn't gourmet, nor is it "authentic" Mexican, but it'll make your tummy happy if you're a fan of fast food. read more

We went out of our way to swing by here one time on the way back from Vegas since this is the first Del Taco! It's significantly smaller than most locations with a pretty small parking lot. But I will say, this place was PACKED. Normally, I am not a huge fan of Del Taco but I can confidently say that after all the locations I have eaten at (drunk and sober) this is hands down the best one I have had. Everything about the food was fresh, including (what seemed like it at least) the ingredients. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. Everything was ordered was made perfectly and they did not skimp on the hot sauce (THANK GOODNESS). I can't say I'll be back since it's so far away from me, but if you're in the area and want something good / quick, pop on in! read more

Best drive-thru mexican food in town. BEST french fries around. Crinkle cut with salt- get them well done for amazing crispiness! The beef tacos are excellent but make me sick now for some reason (seasoning)- almost worth it. I don't know anyone else in town that this happens too. Fish tacos are bomb. It's fun to say we stopped by this Del Taco joint because of its historic place in Del Taco's history. It's not the first but the second one. Since the first one did close, this one is technically the "first" now. Prices are different than the rest of the chains, running a little higher. But don't worry! They stuff the tacos and burritos with lots of meat. It's worth the price. Whatever you eat at a regular Del Taco, expect to be too full to finish everything here.
