Oldest location (referred to as location #1 even tho there was an earier location in Yermo that closed down). A bit off the beaten path, we made it a point to visit this special location. Should you? Well both Barstow locations have a special "Barstow Only" menu and I believe both locations cook their meat fresh. So both are suitable. This location is for the diehards that grew up on Del Taco and have always wanted to make the pilgrimage to #1.. Bun Taco - it was a good foodie experience. This is the oldest operating Del Taco. The original Del Taco location is in Yermo, CA but is now a burger place. First time having Del Taco, and we tried the taco, soft taco and tostada. The tacos are huge and filling and it had a slice of tomato instead of chunks. The tostada had refried beans and no meat and was crispy. Their hot sauce packets range from mild to hot. For dessert, we had the soft serve ice cream which was creamy and refreshing. 3.5 stars. It's a good value. I still like Taco Bell a bit better. read more

Unfortunately, my experience here was not great. After eating the green burrito and Barstow taco, I started to feel unwell. You know that feeling when something just doesn't sit right? My mouth began to water, which is usually a sign that something's off. Whether it was due to poor handling or the food sitting out too long, it wasn't fresh. Worth the trip or detour as the OG of Del's... this would be a five star if not for the mark up on staple items, the no use of the Del Taco app and the yet to arrive Beyond Meat items located at several other locations throughout Cali and neighboring states. I recently passed through on my way to Vegas and couldn't remember the last time I've been here. While the drive through line was moving fast I decided to park it and actually take in some of the indoor scenery. The lot stays pretty full with both locals and tourist stopping in daily (but even more so on the weekends). The menu seemed smaller than normal and then I realized not every single thing was available.. being a veggie I was hoping for some Beyond Avocado tacos or even the new Beyond Burrito... but I went with a classic 8 layer veggie minus the dairy and a half pound with red sauce (nothing against green)... the quality and portions sizes are above expectation so you get what you pay for in full (I know I'm contradicting myself slightly... Del Taco makes you do crazy things). The service is fairly great and this is probably the cleanest location you'll find anywhere... the bathrooms are even more kept up than the fast food dinning area... and the history on the walls is something to behold. There's plenty of parking on the side and residential streets with two entrances/exits to the inside. Del Taco is kid friendly, but like most this location doesn't have a play area for kids or if it did in the pass has done away with it. Vibrant colors and historical visuals on the wall can probably keep most entertained in between the best D.T. you'll ever enjoy... the tortillas feel like they make them from scratch. All the food is fresh! I do hope they extend their menu to carry a few more vegetarian/vegan items, but I will continue to keep this location on my must stop list even if they never do... best fries you'll ever have! read more

We were looking for Huell Howser spots and found corporate #1 in Barstow. It appears they renovated the oldest running Del taco. We couldn't tell if it is open so we proceeded to drive thru. This is the oldest running location with unique items to Barstow like the Barstow taco. The cashier was friendly and nice and gave us our food. We parked across the street to eat our taco but no fries so we had to go back to drive thru to pick it up. The cashier gave us medium fries instead of small fries which was nice of him. read more

So cal to Vegas road trip pitstop just before the old Barstow rail road station and bridge. It's also a good stopping point before going off roading in the wide open land that is Barstow country. Made my first stop last time we came to scout out some off road trails and was not disappointed. Barstow chicken tacos were good, like 2.5 times the size of a regular soft taco, hence the price. Apparently this was the first Del Taco. Well, not this location, as the first Del Taco was somewhere else within Barstow, and moved to this location. Not so much moved as reopened in this location. Well, actually the first Del Taco was in Yermo, but that one closed, so this is the closest to the first Del Taco. It's not on the main street, so you'll need to find it down a side street, which was near a cool old bridge (which was closed when I visited, so you can't drive over it or get near it). They have some menu items specific to this location, including "The Barstow Del Taco". This location is family-owned, and under an operating agreement, they are allowed to create their own menu (which 90% follows the franchised locations menu). I'm not sure how things will change now that Jack In The Box bought the Del Taco chain and company. This restaurant is super clean and has both a parking lot and drive-through. Seems as though they have a lot more drive-thru traffic than sit down at this location. read more

Honestly I love Del Taco! Most of the time! My last visit was less than stellar. I Mobile ordered for the store on Lake Mead and Buffalo and when I arrived my order had not even been started. Since I ordered burgers it was about a 10 - 15 minute wait, and then I did not get the two free tacos that I had added to my order from my "rewards"! Wen I returned to get them I was told (AFTER they made them and brought them ti the counter that I would have to pay for one because I can only use one reward per order. A real pain in the butt. Hands down, this is the best Del Taco. They never skimp on the food and the food is always delicious. Even when it is crowded, they serve fast and the quality doesn't suffer. The other locations need to train at this store and learn the proper way to make Del Tacos. read more

My husband and I get Del on a weekly basis and are huge fans. But if you think this location will measure up to a normal Del Taco, either find a different one or check out the Taco Bell nearby instead. We like Del so much that it was the first place we ate after getting married and we almost named our dog "Del." I'm serious. This location is pretty big and despite the long line inside, we got through the drive through line very quickly. This location doesn't have a value menu, nor do they take the Del Taco app coupons. I ordered a cheese quesadilla and confirmed that it was the one with the green peppers on top. They confirmed but my quesadilla had like 2 small pepper pieces (I could barely tell they put any on until I opened it up). The Del Tacos were a good size, but the meat tasted like it had been sitting and was gritty and chewy. I don't know if it was old meat or cheap meat (yes, I get it is fast food), but I have never tasted Del meat this awful. Let me preface by telling you that you don't go to Panda Express with expectations of legit Chinese food. Likewise, you don't go to Del Taco expecting Mexican food. Now that we have that out of the way. This place is worth visiting for 2 reasons: 1) History. It's always fun to visit the original location (even thought first location is gone. I'll take what I can get) 2) Portion. They really load these tacos up. Makes me wish they come with double tortilla so I can scoop up whatever is leftover. Protip: order a side of the loaded fries and eat your order over the fries so whatever leftover filling drops onto your fries and make it doubly loaded. Yum! read more

I was advised to go to this Del Taco by a friend as one travels between LA and Las Vegas. It's about 10 minutes drive off the freeway. I'm giving this 4 stars solely based on the portion size, nostalgia, and cleanliness (including the bathrooms)! The food is your basic Del Taco food (which my palate would rate 3 stars) with the exception of a few unique Barstow favorites such as the Barstow taco and Bun taco. The taco had lots of fresh shredded cheese topped with a sliced tomato and the Combo burrito was bigger than my husband has ever had in all his Del Taco visits. They had a cool Barstow Del Taco T-shirt and it is definitely classier than the usual Del Tacos we frequent. Staff was courteous and friendly. My sister took me here on our way back to LA from Vegas, not far from the 15 (take a little mini trip through a cute downtown area), and encounter a shop that looked surprisingly modern. Has a couple of private parking slots, definitely not a fancy neighborhood, and inside it has plentiful seating, a wall that goes through the history of del taco, and, most importantly, a special menu of Barstow-only items (also has del taco shirts and the regular menu is here too). I ordered a crunchy and soft taco and tostada (the latter because they're my abs faves), also had a red or green burrito and bun taco (basically using a hamburger bun instead of crunchy taco shell). I don't normally write reviews for fast food chains, but this one is a real gem! My bf told me that his coworker had mentioned that the very first Del Taco location tastes the best of all the other chain locations. Why? Because apparently they use fresh ingredients and the food is packed with deliciousness. So on our way home from Vegas, we ventured out here for a quick bite to eat.
