Very friendly staff! Cute setup and a cool reprieve from our high desert heatwave. The food... all of my Mama's family is from the delta of Arkansas, so to say I was excited for some southern food locally is an understatement. The brisket is tender, well seasoned and overall very good. The bbq sauce was tasty, I would have preferred a bit more kick, but good. The collard greens were good, not like my Mama made them, but good. The rice with the oxtail gravy was tasty. The corn was good and had some heat. The beef ribs were not as tender as I would like (I am a pork rib kinda girl) but they weren't bad. The only thing that I really didn't like was the squash. I make squash and onions all the time and I could not place what was off. The closest I can come is maybe they had sat too long or the oil was old? I'm not sure but they were sadly disappointing. The setup is cafeteria style, which we hadn't seen elsewhere on the trip, and it's a great match for the vibe. We asked the young lady helping us for her recommendation, so I went with the oxtails over rice, collard greens, and baked beans. They were so tender they fell right off the bone, and I made sure to clean every last bit that didn't. The gravy over the rice, with just the right amount of heat, was fantastic. My wife had the Salisbury steak with broccoli and yams and loved it just as much. We swapped bites and agreed this was the best food of our four week road trip. Portions were huge and prices were right in line with a typical restaurant, so the value was great too. It was 100+ degrees outside on July 5th, and the staff let us bring our dog Sarah in out of the heat, which we really appreciated. The young lady who helped us was friendly and professional the whole time, and it turns out she has a dog that looks just like Sarah, named Zoey. Small world. We ordered pork rib tips with 2 sides- we picked corn and vegetables. The nice lady let me try the rest of the sides and I must say, they're all very tasty but the cabbage is my favorite! I was headed back to Vegas the other day so we stopped at Southern twist before lunch. They had a full menu available so we both got the fried catfish. I had mine with the greens and the corn on the cob. She had her catfish with the cornbread and corn on the Cobb. I took mine to Vegas home and heated it up and I enjoyed it. I passed on the tartar sauce, but the hot sauce was a little tasty and spicy as well I'd recommend them if you rolling through from Vegas to the Bay or Vegas to LA. I'll be honest, I stopped by here on a Friday during their slow period (2pm) and almost walked out until I ran into the owner and her staff outside cooking on the smoker. She was so friendly and accommodating to us and our furry travel companion and the food was delicious! The food is on warming plates which obviously was not showcasing everything during the slow period but they said everything is coming out fresh from the kitchen. We got the dino rib and pork ribs that came straight out of that smoker we saw in the back. So good! I think the star of the show were the sides - every side had an extra sprinkle of spice to make it interesting. The yams were my standout favorite, followed by the collard greens. I love the extra seasoning on the Mac too. I also wanted to mention that the ladies restroom had a donation-based hygiene supply, and if I wasn't already giving 5 stars this would put it at the top. I've never really seen a local business help provide access to feminine hygiene for people in need, which is a reflection of how awesome this establishment is. We both chose the beef rib (lol). They came with two sides. We both chose the squash. Hubby had the mac and cheese and I had the yams. The price was $27. You got 1 rib. They had a good amount of meat but also had a fair amount of gristle. The squash was delicious. It was sautéed in butter and just the right amount of crisp. I like the yams. Coming home from Vegas my wife mentioned to me that she found a Soulfood place in Barstow and I'm like a Soulfood place in Barstow. How's the reviews and the reviews are pretty good. The menu looks nice so we stopped by and we got there like right when they opened which was good cause we got fresh stuff fresh items I should say not stuff when we walked in and looked at the entrées in the sides and it looked legit so we got a couple plates for lunch and I got a plate for my mom for her dinner. I got her some smothered turkey wings, and some cabbage and some green beans. They didn't have any cornbread out. I didn't see that I wish I could've tasted it. We did not get any cornbread for any of the plates. They didn't seem to have it anyway my mom said it was delicious. She's even saving some for her meal the next day. We also ordered some fried chicken which they fry on order so it takes about 13 to 15 minutes we also got some pork ribs which like I said they just opened so we had to wait a couple minutes for that too, which we didn't mind cause once again fresh we also got some mac & cheese, sweet potatoes yams as we call them smothered chicken. We got the smoked beef rib we got the Black Eyed Peas. We got the dirty rice we damn near got everything and I have to say everything tasted good was not upset. Local family ran business that has been open for about a year. We were traveling from Vegas back to California and decided to stop since it had quite a few good reviews. Today's sides were a choice of plain rice, fried cabbage, broccoli with cheese, Mac and cheese, collard greens, green beans, corn on the cob, candied yams, or Lima beans. We came through on a Sunday at lunch time and were first concerned since the parking lot was empty. We were greeted warmly by Izzy as we walked in the door but she was the only person working up front so it took a few mins as she plates the food and rings folks up. The fountain machine was broken so they had cans of soda for sale although they did have some sweet tea made. There was a minor rush after we got there and some people ended up leaving as they waited for about 10 mins as she helped other customers. The restaurant is spacious and has lots of booths for seating. The meat was tender and falling off the bone. I really liked the green beans and the collard greens were good. The only thing I would say that the food was not hot. It was hot enough but not hot out of the kitchen since they run this restaurant like a buffet station. read more

OMG! I haven't had food like this since visiting my cousins in the South! If you are on your way to Las Vegas, stop at the super charger station which is a one minute walk from the restaurant. We had the beef ribs, the pork ribs, the black eyed peas and the green beans. They were all top notch. The portions are huge so you can easily split. The price was very fair. I kept eating long after I wasn't hungry because the flavors were so good. And their sweet tea is excellent! You order at the counter then choose your seat.
