One I settled on a particular species, he was patient with me while I scrutinized every mahogany board until I chose the ones I liked. I never felt rushed and I enjoyed my experience selecting lumber. I walked in the decking section for 30 minutes and rang the bell for assistance and still nothing. This is an old school lumber yard with it's own mill shop. They will cut or mill pieces, have exotics and live edge, stainless steel fasteners and their prices are at market levels. As I am a guy, I can't comment on the treatment of women, but although I am not there often the service desk always seems to pay attention to who came first. highly recommend. read more

Used to love it here. There was a gentleman in the cutting area that was always helpful and had a great work ethic. There were some guys who treated me disrespectfully because I'm female. One tried to get me to buy the worst specimen he had because he assumed I didn't know what I was doing. The newer younger guys that I've dealt with didn't have great skills. One said, he didn't want to do finish cuts to make them uniform. He said,"that's more work," Hopefully, with more female contractors and home owners taking on projects, some females will be hired to eliminate sexist ideas. read more

PROS: People travel from as far away as Maryland for the exotic and raw-edged woods they carry here. Some of the special order items are beautiful. If you ask the guys in the shed on a day that's not busy, they'll show & tell about some amazing species of wood they have on hand, or have sold in the past. This family-owned business consists of a hardware store, and then the huge sheds of lumber. They have EVERYTHING when it comes to lumber. Far far more than Depot, and more than their closest rivals, Beatty Supply in Upper Darby, or J+L in Malvern. They supply builders and all kinds of contractors, as well as homeowners / DIYers. In addition to our own DIY projects, we have worked with Greg, one of the desk guys, who calculate orders for lumber and siding on building projects. He introduced us to a great siding product, that uses Japanese clay and is higher-quality than the standard products other suppliers sell en masse. It is this willingness to find the best options instead of pushing something a manufacturer tells you to push, that make Delco Supply special. Their prices change with the lumber market, but they are often cheaper than the box stores on a lot of stuff. There are some very basic trims that are cheaper at Depot, but you are normally getting a little better quality at Delco Supply. For example, primed trim is spotty and you can tell the primer is a cheap one-coat slap-on job at Depot. The version at Delco Supply will be heavier weight lumber, with a real coating of primer that is not transparent, nor missing coverage in spots. CONS: I take one star off because though I became a regular here at the height of our last phase of home renovations, I was helped at the register AFTER various contractors who came in after me. It happened pretty often. I wanted to say something, but the attitude at the register is one where they need to be chummy with the local contractors they know, like a high school clique. That kind of immaturity doesn't seem to understand how to be professional. They will also let any customer (contractor or not) sit there and wait for them to decide to get around to taking their money. The 3-5 people sitting at computers nearby working on orders, will let customers wait at the counter for several minutes before getting up to help. These guys also seem to have an attitude toward women which is condescending and offensive. This is pretty disgraceful. It's just an "I don't care" attitude at checkout. You can tell by the GOOD work ethic of the owner, of the guys in the sheds, and of the guys in the back offices like Greg, that it is atypical of how the rest of the company represents themselves, and is in contrast with how they expect these other lazy people to behave. (When the owner is around, they magically know how to do their job politely and professionally.) Unfortunately, these rude people are the ones who interface daily with most customers. We have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with Delco Supply over the years, and deserve much better treatment than that. read more

I was blown away by this place. I have been to a number of different places that each provide a good selection of exotic lumber and my visit today was the absolute best. I was greeted by a gentleman that seemed to be the owner as I walked towards the warehouses. He struck up conversation and I let him know I was fairly new to playing around with exotic woods and creating boxes, tabletops, etc. He was extremely helpful and informative of exactly what they carry there(pretty much everything). I was then helped by another guy who helped me select the wood I'd take with me. I'm terrible with names but I wish I remembered so you could all ask for him when you go. As a somewhat particular hobbyist, I was grateful that I wasn't rushed while looking around. This guy literally stuck with me the whole time and helped with whatever I needed. I have paid $300 for a meal at a nice restaurant and didn't get as much help or guidance haha... at the end of the day, I left there spending a lot less than I ever had for higher quality lumber; feeling like I'd never go anywhere else in the future. The hour drive is much worth it. These guys even planed the wood for me before I went on my way. I can't say enough about this place and I wish i knew about it sooner. I will probably make a weekly trip to this spot. I highly recommend you do the same. read more

A good place for getting Poplar and Red Oak but expect to pay out the nose for any other hardwoods. They tend to be $2-$4 more per board foot than most other lumberyards selling hardwood lumber in the rough. Definitely not worth going here if you need serious quantities. A couple of the guys in the yard are very nice but most tend be gruff and unfriendly. read more
