What a find! We were in the area looking at real estate and we wanted a good corned beef on rye. We stopped in and we were greeted and seated immediately. The waitresses were very nice and friendly. We ordered the extra lean corned beef on rye and cucumber salad. Everything was fresh and excellent like a real NY deli. This review is an update. I'm sorry to report that Deli on Rye is not as good as it used to be. It's not so much the food but the service. Our server left the restaurant and drove off to make a delivery before our food was served. The other (very new) waitress brought our food to the table. No problem. However, she didn't stay at the table long enough to see if we needed anything such as beverage refills (we did!). A few minutes later, our waitress came *flying* back in the door, threw her purse somewhere under the counter and proceded to approach a table that the other waitress had already begun waiting on! She went to the beverage station to get coffee and iced tea for that table, directly in my sightline. She proceeded to open a container of lemon slices and reached in WITH HER BARE HAND to grab a slice. I want to point out that since she came back in from her delivery, she had not washed her hands! If you want a cozy deli, where every customer is treated as a King, with amazing food and great prices, then this is the deli for you! It's a quaint deli with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was so friendly that everyone said goodbye to us as we were leaving. I love Matzo Ball soup and I just had to try it. Holy Moly! This was by far the best Matzo Ball soup! Everything they make there is homemade, including the veggie cream cheese. We went there for breakfast and I had a veggie omlette with tomato slices and a whole grain bagel. Delicious! Had frequented Deli On Rye a number of years ago, and have not returned for good reason. I watched the owner (or employee) behind the counter touch his nose and apron, then handle my food without protective gloves. I said to the man, "Did you just touch my food without gloves?" The first time I went to Deli on Rye, I had just spent five days in the hospital, so maybe I was a little hungry for real food. But the Red Russian sandwich was the best I've ever had and the Matzo ball soup was great. That was two years ago and I've been back many, many times and it's always great. Monica treats you like she's your mom and fusses over her customers. My favorite thing to order are the omelets, which are made more like crepes than omelets and are stuffed with goodies. I work down the street from this place and my boyfriend wanted to try it out. We only had 45 min so we ordered subs. They took 30 min to get them when we did they were made wrong. 10 min to get the check and 5 to get a to go box. I came here on a Monday night with my parents with high hopes, as my father who has eaten here, said it was good and his friend, who is picky, recommended it. Upon walking in, I was impressed. It resembled to a T, a deli we frequent in New York where it is a narrow restaurant with tables squished close together. They offer soup and half a sandwich. What a dream! Little did I know we would play the waiting game all night long. On Monday night, there were four people working in the restaurant - two in the kitchen, a busser and the waitress. There were three tables occupied. We selected a table and waited for our waitress. We waited some more. After at least 15 minutes, the waitress finally appeared ( it appears she was outside on personal business) and took our order. After 10 minutes, we still did not receive our beverages and I decided I wanted to add fries to my order. Meanwhile, we see our soups on the counter waiting to be served. We tried getting her attention, but she was too busy socializing with other customers who were personal friends, so my mother walked up to her and placed the fry order. After 10 minutes, the cook/owner (I presume) yelled at her to serve our soups because the customers see them waiting. When she didn't he brought them out, but alas, the order was wrong. He brought out three soups when we ordered two soups and a salad. While he rectified that situation, our beverages arrived. Soup was good, not much to write home about. Too much veg for my liking. Then our food comes out. No fries. The waitress admits she forgot them, and then tells the owner it is our fault because we placed the order when she was busy kibbitzing with the other customers, and after she put the order in the kitchen. I wanted to cancel the fry order because I wanted to eat with my half a turkey sandwich (which was DELICIOUS - moist and a nice, thick size), and not after I finish my meal. She assured me it would be 30 seconds. Then we hear her yell in the kitchen asking how long it would be. They came out in a minute and were great. They tasted like Arbys curly fries. My dad had a roast beef sandwich and it was rare, just how he ordered it. If it weren't for the shoddy service, this place would have earned three stars from me. If the restaurant was busy, I would understand the delays and mishaps. However, the joint was empty. There are many deli options in Boca Raton, I do not think I will be returning soon. read more

Rude and slow service. It was empty, more employees then customers and they're still slow. They messed up my order twice and laughed about it. Portions are small and low quality. If I could give this negative stars I would. We ordered lunch and it turned into a nightmare!!! First clue was when the delivery person knew we had cash orders and came with NO CHANGE. That's special aint it. Heres a hint: If you KNOW there are cash orders bring some change with you. Next the orders were not right - even after a second attempt. In fact when we called the SECOND TIME that the order was still a wrong it was suggested that we not to order from them anymore. Why?? Because this place is just too stupid to make a veggie omelet. Had lunch recently and everything was great! I had the tuna sandwich which was the perfect portions of tuna and mayo. My boyfriend has the nova salmon platter and it was very fresh. We are very please and will definitely be back soon! The service was great. Our waitress MONICA was very knowledgeable of the menu and her personality light up the restaurant. This place is the rudest place I have ever ordered from. My office called and placed 6 orders for delivery. 4 by CC and 2 by cash. The guy taking our order complained to us about getting too many credit cards and not knowing how to ring them up. Then when he delivered our food he scolded us about never using that many credit cards again and also complained he didn't have change for our cash payments. Then they forgot the soup for a half soup and sandwich combo, the veggie omelette that we ordered was not what was shown on their online menus and the chicken for the caesar salad was like rubber. It contained zucchini, olives, tomatoes and onions when the online menu says it has mushrooms, peppers and onions. The woman who ordered it is allergic to olives so I called them to let them know about the soup and the omelette. I gave the corrected omelette order and it was going to come to us with the soup. The delivered the soup and the omelette but the omelette came with the same stuff again. I called them again to let them know and the guy who answered became angry and told us to never order from them again because we always have problems. (This is the first time we ever had a problem out of the 3 times we ordered.) He said yeah well we will refund you for the omelette and then he hung up. I called back again because the person who ordered the omelette paid with cash. A woman picked up who was more pleasant and told us they refunded a credit card and they wanted the food they gave us back. Woman taking order at the register was super sweet and friendly and the location is very convenient - but - that unfortunately is all I can say that is very positive. She wrote down everything we needed but someone didn't follow thru. They forgot the mustard, the Russian, the extra pickles, the side of dressing, the plain roll we ordered (and paid for) for my son, the straws for the drinks, all small things but all things we specifically asked to have. Every sandwich was dry with no dressings on or on the side. The cold cuts are sliced to order but NOT housemade. They're brand cold cuts. Very disappointing that we couldn't tell the difference between the corned beef and the pastrami..!? Also, they could've benefited from being heated up as the fat on the meat was heavy, tough and congealed. Warming the meat would've done the sandwich good. The rye is good (hey, it's in the name it better be). They got Dr. Brown soda so that's good. Cole slaw is so-so. The tuna with lettuce had one piece of lettuce on the entire sandwich. One little single piece of lettuce. A Jewish sandwich should be overstuffed and iceberg is cheap enough. This town needs a good Jewish deli! Don't bother calling to order if you plan on paying by credit card(s) for an office lunch (apparently that's too difficult), pay by cash and expect the driver to have change or if you expect your meal to match the menu description. I can only really speak for two items on the menu here because they are so good I can't seem to order anything else. First is the Red Russian sandwich with pastrami, cole slaw and thousand island. The pastrami is usually very lean and has a very nice smoked flavor. The second sandwhich is the Turkey Club. I think it is the best club around. I usually add cheddar cheese to it and that rounds it out. The owners are really nice as well and they never seem to dissapoint. read more

Walked in for breakfast and immediately noticed tension and misery behind the deli counter when the Russian owner was too busy to notice me because she was yelling at an employee. They ran out of bagels, so I ordered a toasted bialy instead with egg and cheese . She rings me up $5.25 and I pay it. I then grab a menu, sit and wait for my food when I look at a menu and notice that my order was only $3.99. I of course said something and she made it look like she did it by mistake, giving me my $1.06 back, saying she rang me up a bacon egg and cheese instead (B.S) For the last straw, I went on my way, opened up my "bialy", only to notice that it was stale, untoasted, and freezing cold.
