The food wasn't bad -- it was filling. But the service made for an absolutely excruciating experience. Just getting a soda was an Olympic feat. From the menu, I chose a diet sprite. She wrote it down. She brought a regular dr browns cream soda. No I said. She returned with an opened can of diet dr browns cream soda. I said, you wrote it down (a diet sprite). She said yes, but I don't know where I wrote it (!). A few minutes later she returned. They didn't have diet sprite. How about a caffeine free Coke? (Again reading from the menu). Nope. How about a regular sprite? Yup. Finally... We both ordered their soup and sandwich. He ordered chicken noodle soup and I ordered matza ball soup. They brought two bowls of matza ball soup. My half sandwich of pastrami o rye was fine. His half Bologna sandwich was fine. They brought us both coleslaw. Everyone else around us was asked which side salad they wanted. Fox (faux) News on the TV .First impression. The positives : the sandwiches are deli sized portions and food is good. Not so positives: After attempting to order six different beverages listed on the menu we gave up because they were out of each drink we wanted, I went with Water, ( fortunately they did have that). I ordered Chicken Noodle soup with a half Baloney sandwich, what I received was Matzoh and noodles soup and half a Baloney. I guess the first waitress gave up and another waitress brought our food to the table. Meanwhile we had to listen the kitchen talking about how Sarah Palin should run for office again and how terrible the withdrawal from Afghanistan was. What the ??? Living in the area Deli on Rye is a gem. We recently had lunch there on two separate occasions and it was terrific. Our waitress both times was Dawn and she is just the best! Whether it be a corned beef sandwich , pastrami, or tongue , it's fresh and tasty. French fries are good as well. We've also had a western omelette which was perfect. Believe it or not the other day one of us ordered a Cubano sandwich , which if not authentic was delicious. I am delighted to review Deli on Rye as they deserve the recognition. Corned beef was very dry, not served hot and there were pieces so dry and old they were brown. Rye bread was also dry and not fresh. Ate about half the corned beef and paid and left. Restaurant is pretty unkept also. To add further insult, in 2020 this establishment up charges on credit purchases. Too cheap to use fresh food and too cheap pay their own overhead and price accordingly. read more

So....... I've been on a bit of a pastrami kick lately. On my search for that perfect sammie I ended up at Deli On Rye, via a friends recommendation. Lucky for me that friend has good taste. Deli On Rye serves up a fantastic assortment of pastrami sandwiches amongst other things. They have been a part of the Boca community for over 30 years and counting. On my visit I chose both the White Russian and the Black Russian. Each had pastrami, coleslaw, and russian dressing. Only the white one had turkey and the black one had roast beef on it as well. Both were so delicious! Definitely a great spot to try if you're in the mood for a really great sandwich. read more

Solid place for lunch friends of ours picked up two pastrami's which was so lean along with pickles which were delicious we also had their coleslaw which was very good and the bread was super fresh as well. Overpriced, but the biggest rip off is that they charge a 4% fee for using a credit card. I am sure most people don't realize this, they say a $10 minimum for credit cars purchases, but don't state clearly about the fee. They say a cash discount, but there is no discount, what it means is you won't be charged a 4% fee for using a card. It is very sneaky and cheap of the owners, as well as petty. If you don't want to accept credit cards simply say cash only, but don't try to scam 4% from pepole. read more

Just had an incredible lunch. Was there with my wife and brother in law. We had the MOST INCREDIBLE Pastrami, brisket, and corned beef sandwiches, all on rye (of course)! The brisket came with a delicious brown dipping sauce and each sandwich came with a choice of macaroni salad, coleslaw or potato salad (and a crunchy sour pickle, naturally). So we got all 3 sides and added an old fashioned round potato knish. The food melts in your mouth... Literally better than anything in the NY area currently! The food was a throwback to my favorite childhood delis in Brooklyn, including Grabstein's and George & Sid. They even had a nice selection of Dr. Brown's sodas. Of course to add to the great kitsch and throwback, the hall of fame wall with the owner's family photos with celebs was fantastic. The family are great philanthropists and knew all the A-list personalities from the 70s and 80s. Also, I absolutely adore the owner Todd! What a sweet guy with a heart of gold! He makes you laugh and can serve up great stories of growing up in Brooklyn along with the mouthwatering deli meats! By the way, after polishing off our sandwiches, we had two potato latkes for "dessert" served old school style with dollops of sour cream and applesauce. MMMMM GOOD!! I had seen this place on one of Anthony Bourdain's reruns about the places along Florida beaches - almost 9 months ago, and could not forget what I saw - I couldn't put it out of mind & could almost taste the items covered during the segment, including the variations of the corned beef & pastrami sandwiches, White, Red & Black Russian sandwiches & the Rachel Special - Ahhh to die for! And finally made it today with an old friend who we get together from time to time for a lunch to catch up and shoot the breeze I can't describe something that must only be experienced! It was going to heaven & back! Everything Bourdain showed & described, only better - much better - super much more scrumptious ! If you enjoy Ruben, any kind of Pastrami or Corned Beef sandwich - this is THE place! I live in Coral Gables, and a 1+ Hr drive - so well worth it, & we plan to return often! The owner is another story - such a nice and gracious man. We finished our lunch and stayed way past closing tIme - past 3 PM - sitting outside and having a wonderful series of discussions - time flies - and we decided to leave - paid the bill with many complements - and suddenly I realized I wanted to order another sandwich to go - for my wife. I go back in and started ordering and I was quickly reminded they have closed and everything was cleaned & put away - the owner suddenly sees what's going on, asked me what I wanted, called the chef and they prepared another amazing sandwich - and we were on our way! it's a very unpleasant experience from a next door neighbor . For years we were a customer of this place and few times over the time we had a bad service or meal , but were just tried to not to pay attention. But what happened yesterday is not forgivable We put an order for a HIGH Holidays few days ago and obviously were depending on it. We came to pick up the order at 3 PM yesterday and the half of the order was not there. The lady who was taking care of us did not even say anything. I had to ask what was going on and I was told that my order was sold to someone else. No apology was giving , accept a little container with kasha as a excuse. I've have visited this place several times over the years. They simply make good sandwiches. Today was the tuna on rye with onion and jalapeño peppers. It was delicious. I'm honestly done picking up from this place. They literally ALWAYS screw up my order I honestly don't know why I even bother when there are so many better deli's around Boca. The lady with the accent who answers the phone, I don't know if she isn't paying attention, but whenever I place an order with her, I already know it's going to be screwed up or something is missing. Where is the option for negative stars? I'm still furious at the service I received today. After being ignored at the takeout counter I was finally served by the only friendly and competent staff member here. After finishing packing up the order, he left me to the surly and rude waiter to cash me out. My $23 order was rung up as $29. After running my card, I asked to see a detailed receipt and was refused! I said I was overcharged and the waiter turned around and walked away! Then I was ignored by multiple staff while the other person in line with me commented on the bad service. The original person who served me came back, I told them the problem and he told the waiter to take care of it... Who then gave me stink eye the entire time while figuring out my refund, gave me the cash and walked away without an apology. Mistake or deliberate I don't know, but I won't be back which is too bad because it tasted pretty good and the listed prices are lower than most area deli shops assuming you're not over charged. read more

I am not sure if there is a way to give it a .5 star to make it 2.5 stars, but as a longtime resident of this area, I have been to my fair share of delis - I even worked in one before. I had to be in Boca and noticed Deli on Rye as I was driving by. I love deli food so I made a u-turn and went in to try. I totally loved the food! I first had a bowl of matzoh ball soup. It was delicious and tasted home made. It had a great flavor with chunks of chicken, fresh vegetables, and the lightest matzoh balls. Next I had the brisket sandwich. I never had such a good briskest sandwich other than from my mother! It was so tender and juicy. The owner Todd suggested that I have a side of au-jus to dunk the sandwich in. It was so delicious! It was a real surprise to find such good homemade food along Federal Highway in Boca. The only problem is that I live in Miami, and a little far from this great find.
