They used to be a 5, but they change the way they prepare their tamales. The recipe has change not for the better.. The Mission branch has always had amazing tamales.. But like I said earlier the taste is not there and when you unwrap them it just come apart our to little stuff ingredient and the masa is so thick and that what you get for your money .. They make the best bean tamales on Earth! We're vegan/vegetarian and good tamales are difficult for us to find. We live in California and discovered Delia's while visiting family in the area. Their tamales are amazing. They are the perfect mix of masa and filling. They aren't huge, which is fantastic because I can eat a few different varieties in one sitting. The salsas are what put this place over the top. They have a flavorful red salsa which tastes great without too much heat. Then there is the green salsa, which is hot and delicious. Well I think I've found the best tamales I've ever eaten anywhere. There's no amount of reviews that will do these corn husk wrapped tamales justice they are so simple yet so delicious. My visit here today wasn't by accident once I knew I was going to be in the area I was determined to get my fill of the most authentic tamales I could fine and I think I succeeded. I ordered the beef tamales but with all the choices I'm not so sure if I shouldn't have ordered a half dozen of each but I knew that would be a waste since they come in minimum quantities of six I had to settle, so beef it was. I've read a review stating these tamales are on the thin side well they were perfect in my opinion with a perfect ratio of filling to masa. I ordered a dozen because I thought that would be the right amount after a half dozen it was apparent these aren't on the thin side after all I managed to down two more just because I knew this experience wasn't going to be easily repeatable in the near future. The green salsa was as equally amazing as was the old style 10 oz glass bottle of Coca-Cola made with real cane sugar to wash it all down. Located about 5 miles north of the U.S. Border with Mexico in Mission this simple little restaurant is everything you could hope for when it comes to authentic tamales, the validation was the steady flow of repeat customers ordering take out as well as dining in. It was a nice surprise to find out I can order these online and have them in a day or two, there is no doubt I will be placing an order in the next week or so, check out their website and give them a try I plan to be a regular customer even though it will be via FedEx and I can't check in lol. read more

I really like the maza flavor and color, it has a great texture, doesn't break apart when you bite or stick your fork in it, nice and firm. Everything is well balanced. The red salsa is just full of flavor, nothing like I've had before, goes hand in hand with these tamales; they really hit it out the park with this one. The green one is good too but I always ask for extra red sauce. Get your orders in quick if you want some for the holidays, they're a must! The prices have gone up but truly worth it. They were mild & a bit dry compared to the perfect greasiness of the pork. They were out of the bean so we were unable to try those. But - there is one thing: They are only tamales. But the most delicious tamales they are! Pork, chicken, Green Chile sauce with chicken, bean and cheese... The consumer is faced with the dilemma of which of the 15 to choose from. They are sold in batches of half dozen or one dozen. Average price for half a dozen? About $4.29. You pay, the ladies will bring from the back warmers your neatly aluminum foil wrapped bundle of choice (or two) and then you pay. They have the usual beverages, plus horchata and jamaica, which is an added treat. A small salad bar is complimentary, replete with ice-cold and freshly cut lettuce and sliced tomatoes, wedges of limes, and salsa. Dig in and sit in the plain-style fast food style benches... Once you unwrap the piping hot foil from the tamales, you will see your 6 presents awaiting to be further unwrapped. They are on the thin side, but they pack such a perfect taste, almost melting in your mouth at first bite, that the size is scarcely worth mentioning. Most folks that I saw at this very very busy establishment also had 6, all the while having a great time socializing with their loved ones at hand. And that's what it comes down to.
