We had a great time on Dells Boat Tours. It ended up being one of the highlights of our visit. The tour takes you along the beautiful Wisconsin River where you can see the famous rock formations of the Wisconsin Dells. Pictures really don't do it justice -- the cliffs and sandstone formations are much more impressive in person. The tour is about 2 hours long and includes two stops where you get off the boat to explore. One stop is at Witches Gulch where you walk through a narrow, mossy canyon that feels almost magical, and the other is Stand Rock where you can see one of the Dells' most famous rock formations up close. The guides did a great job sharing the history of the area, including how parts of the Dells were preserved from developers, which is why the scenery still looks so natural today. Overall it was a really relaxing and enjoyable tour. The views, the history, and being out on the river made it well worth it. Definitely recommend if you're visiting the Dells! read more

We took the Upper Dells Boat Tour to see Witch's Gulch and the Wisconsin Dells, as it's the only way to access Witch's Gulch. The boat ride itself was very enjoyable, and the captain, narrator, and his wife were all knowledgeable, entertaining, and made the trip fun from start to finish. Witch's Gulch was absolutely beautiful. The towering rock formations, lush vegetation, and narrow walkways made it one of the highlights of our trip. My only wish is that I could have experienced it with fewer people, as the crowds took away a bit of the peaceful atmosphere. The biggest drawback for me was how commercialized the experience felt. After walking through this stunning natural area, you arrive at a concession stand and gift shop, which made the experience feel less immersive and, in my opinion, diminished some of the area's natural beauty. I also noticed quite a bit of trash floating in the water near where the boats dock, which was disappointing to see in such a scenic location. I would have loved to see the tour place more emphasis on the area's natural history and its Native American heritage rather than the commercial aspects of the attraction. Fortunately, the second landing on the tour felt much more natural and less developed, and it was every bit as beautiful. Overall, the scenery alone makes the Upper Dells Boat Tour worth taking. While I wish the experience focused more on preserving the natural character of the area, Witch's Gulch is a remarkable place that I'm glad we had the opportunity to see. We also took a Duck Boat tour as a family while visiting the Wisconsin Dells, and it was a fun experience for both adults and kids. Our driver was friendly, funny, and did a great job keeping everyone entertained throughout the tour. The combination of traveling on both land and water made the experience unique, and our children especially loved the transition from road to river. The narration was enjoyable, with a good mix of local history, interesting facts, and humor that kept the ride engaging from start to finish. There were only a couple of aspects that took away from the experience. Just before returning to the ticket area, the tour paused for a presentation about the history of flooding in the Dells that transitioned into a sales pitch for souvenir booklets and a request for tips. We understand that this likely wasn't the guide's decision, but it felt a little out of place and interrupted the otherwise enjoyable flow of the tour. We also weren't particularly fond of the mandatory photo opportunity before boarding. While it's easy enough to decline purchasing the photo, it did make the beginning of the experience feel a bit more commercialized than we expected. Overall, though, the Duck Boat tour was a fun and memorable family activity. The guide was excellent, the scenery was beautiful, and it's an experience we'd recommend to families visiting the Wisconsin Dells. read more

Walked right up to the ticket booth and bought a ticket for me and my date. Theres an option to buy online but it was possibly going to rain that day so I decided to just go there. Though I do feel like a lot of things have gotten ruined by Taurus into Wisconsin Dells the Dells boat tours feels unmatched compared to things to do in the area. I booked my boat tour online and when you book it online you could see any boat tour basically which I didn't know. When I showed up to the Dells they didn't tell me what the start times were for the boat tours. Thankfully me and my wife were able to catch the 6:00 tour. The staff here were really friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating I was also happy that the tour boat size amount of passengers was actually really small which made this trip feel a lot more personable and specialized. I can't believe that the tour guide was an 18 year old just graduated high school because he was so good at his job it felt like he was doing this for years. The sites that you will see are phenomenal , the places the boat will stop at are phenomenal as well with plenty of great short walk and experiences which have restrooms and concession stands as well. This is definitely worth the two hour Adventure too they also feature other similar tours as well but I definitely consider this one my favorite one of all I get this place 4.5 Stars and I was overall very happy with my journey read more

Ensure safety and laughs, would do this again! They also take your picture before but they charge $20 or more for the photos. On the mini tour they have you get out and walk the trail with a concession stand at the end, only thing is you have 3 minutes to eat or drink it because they aren't allowed on the way back ! We recently took a day trip up to Dells, about an hour from Madison, and made a couple of stops along the way. First stop was to Dr. Evermor's Sculpture Park, which is free to enter and park. Pwr its website, it is the largest scrap metal park in the world and filled with fascinating metal sculptures, many of them upcycled from salvaged materials. It's a creative and quirky spot that's definitely worth a stroll (30 minutes). There's a small donation box with a QR code if you'd like to contribute to its upkeep. Then we continued on to Upper Dells to experience the Witches Gulch slot canyon via a boat tour. The tour costs $39 per adult, with boats departing every 30 minutes. Boat capacity is 100 pax. They offer 50% off on a 2nd boat tour to Lower Dells but we didn't get it since it is on a speed boat. The Upper Dells boat ride itself was ok and lasted around two hours, with two scenic stops where you can stretch your legs, use the restrooms, and grab snacks at concession stands. Hot dog was $6. A few things to note: the boat can get quite noisy, and the seats are not comfortable at all. The entire row of chairs aren't secured to the floor and can move around. There's an upper deck that's open-air, great for views, but it can get very hot or windy depending on the weather. The lower deck is covered which worked fine for us since the line to board didn't allow me to snag a spot upstairs. Also, be aware there are no restrooms on the boat itself. My tour guide was a college kid. Overall, it was a pleasant and unique day trip. If you're looking to add more to your visit, there's also the Ho-Chunk Casino nearby for some additional entertainment. read more

I was so excited for this boat tour after reading the reviews. As soon as I saw the boat I regretted our decision. Elbow to elbow with way to many people. I like to take pictures and we ended up setting toward the center of the boat. I had to hold my camera over heads to get picturea. It was not a photo friendly tour for me. The stop at Witch's Gulch was rushed and the natural beauty of the Gulch was ruined with signage. Twenty minutes to try and see it all and go to the restroom and back to the boat was way to rushed. About impossible to get a photo without a bunch of people in them. Next stop was quick and felt like it was just a stop to try and sell you food ,drinks and souvenirs. I will not recommend this to my friends. We did many things on our trip and this was our only waste of time and money. But you don't know till you go. We did the lower tour and it was so much better. They also were trying to sell outdated photo and coupon books with outdated coupons in them. Don't worry they said businesses still honor the coupons. No thanks. This is a very touristic activity, but I was a tourist that wanted to check out the Witches Gulch & other cool rock formations. It's a nice opportunity to get on the water & enjoy the weather while learning some history. Tours run every 30-45 minutes. Tickets can be purchased online or onsite. There are two different Dells Boat tours, aside from their jet boats. The Upper Dells Boat tour is the one that is 2 hours long and takes you to two stops where you have the chance to see the Witches Gulch & Stand Rock the spot where HH Bennett made Wisconsin Dells famous. He created the stop action shutter & captured his son leaping the gap. To commemorate this moment they have a trained dog leap instead of a human for our enjoyment. The dog was really fast! Although there is a safety net below, that is still quite a fall. Essh. I hope those dogs get paid well in treats and with lots of love risking their safety at our expense. The first stop is the Witches Gulch which I found fascinating, but it's only a short walk in and back out. It's a lot shorter than you think. It ends with a concession stand & restrooms. Which took away from the experience. You're walking through these carved out formations with greenery throughout and then you reach a stand selling popcorn, nachos & drinks. Although that popcorn was good. I'm not sure if that was because I was really hungry. Both stops are a 20-25 minute stop which allows enough time to use the restrooms at both areas if necessary & take some pics. You are not obligated to leave the boat. But I recommend you do so if you're physically able. Otherwise you will miss out on the two highlights of the tour. The stand rock stop, our boat captain reminded us if we walk up, we have to also walk down. In my mind I was imagining a real high elevation as if we needed some training to hike Mt. Everest or something. It wasn't bad at all. . There is some elevation but if you are reasonably mobile and can navigate uneven elevated terrain, you should be fine. On the second stop if you have young kids, keep an eye on them as the dock you unload from has no railing or ropes on the water side. This stop has a gift shop which you conveniently have to walk through to exit. Aside from concession stands & gift shops detracting from the beauty of nature, the tour was a nice way to explore the area that is not otherwise accessible by car. Regarding seating- like others have mentioned, pick your seats wisely as you cannot change seats throughout the tour. They do this because apparently they have had fisticuffs or fights happen over lawn chairs in the past. Yes. Those beloved, highly coveted chairs are old school lawn chairs. I'm not sure if the chairs are the same downstairs. But the upper deck ones are and they are in sets of 2 on the left and right side. I felt that the top deck was a good place to sit as long as the weather is good. From the top deck you get to see the beautiful sky and the trees tower over & nice views of the cliffs and water. Also do not leave anything on the boat. They have covered seating on benches while you wait for the next boat to board. If you can try to be at least one of the first 30-50ish person to board, you will have a better chance of getting a seat on the upper deck. Bring sunglasses and a hat & wear sunblock if sitting on top. If you get chilly easily be sure to bring a jacket. As for wheelchair accessibility, i'm not certain but from what I remember there were some ramps. However, I think there was a height difference requiring a step up & step down to enter & exit the boat. I recommend calling directly or referring to their website. They do have an elevator to go down to the dock to board. Otherwise, you can navigate a long stairway of stone/concere steps down. read more

Highly recommend the UPPER Dells Boat Tour. The two spots for Witches Gulch and to see the "dog jump" at Stand Rock are awesome. If you are vacationing with dogs the "Upper" Dells Boat Tour is doggie-friendly! We got to pet some many cute dogs on the boat. Heads up: they prefer you dont switch seats - my daughter really wanted to sit on top so we waited for the next boat. Worth it! There are concessions and bathrooms at the boat's two stops, if needed. The Upper Dells Boat Tour ($30/person) was okay. You make two stops. One of them had cool rock formations and probably took about 20 min to walk roundtrip. The other one was Standing Rock with two rock formations where you watch a dog jump across which was kind of cool. A ten minute walk. The rest of the boat tour was OK. And they did not let you switch seats which I was not a fan of. 2 hours+ long. Tour guide and captain were both college students and were nice. I personally would not sign up for the Lower Dells Tour as well which is an hour. We did not do it but 3 hours would be a looooong time. read more

We took a duck tour with this group the other day and it was a blast. Our host had plenty of interesting history and cheesy jokes to share on our excursion. We had an excellent relaxing 2 hour tour on the Belle Boyd. Troy was a great Captain. Mark, former Police Officer and raised in the Dells since childhood was our Guide and made the whole trip very interesting and enjoyable. Very personable and funny as he threw in light humor while presenting the historical facts. This review is for anyone needing accommodations or vegan out there! They WILL NOT accommodate a vegan meal for you or comp your meal from the ticket price, even though tickets are just under $100! Their option, which I was originally told was vegan- vegetable kabobs-is , in fact, not and cooked with butter. They offered my this, a salad with not croutons, toppings, or dressing and no dessert and said that it's comparable to the 3 course meal the rest of our birthday party would get- full salad, steak & shrimp, plus dessert. We know vegetables don't cost what steak & shrimp do! I believe it was Mike whom I ultimately spoke to and he was the third person in upper management I spoke with. He offered to refund my party's tickets, but not comp mine or theirs do to their inability to accommodate for our birthday party (mine & my boyfriend's). He raised his voice at me and hung up without saying goodbye, we look forward to serving you, anything- mind you, I kept my tone even and respectful and was asking questions about why they are fighting for ALL of their customers to have an equal experience and what they were going to do in my case and in the future to treat everyone equally. As of July 2025- FYI: Eddie from Banquets is in charge of their menu and catering for the sunset dinner cruise. Keep calling Chula Vista and asking for him so we can all enjoy a good meal because that's what we paid for! Okay experience -- solely took the tour to see Witches Gulch since you can't access it via trail anymore. We weren't told that we should head down right away to get a place in line (had about 45 min until tour left). We got down there and were informed to sit in the last row. They then started letting people on by row 1, 2, etc. We watched some people walk right into the row 1 line though without waiting and they weren't turned back. Found out at that point that they ran out of top deck seating. We tried sitting together (2 of us) and were promptly yelled at by a passenger that they were saving seats. We ended up sitting in the back at the bottom of the boat. Thankfully, we didn't get motion sickness. However, you can't swap seats at any point. Also would've been good to know beforehand. We would've liked mixing up the view. Okay for what it is but kind of pricey and a bit of a headache. The tour guides and sights were great. Little silly that they have concessions but happy if that helps keep restoration going. read more

I don't know how many times I've been to Wis Dells, I even did an internship here for 3 months after college but this was my first time doing the boat tour! Upper Dells is more scenic and probably the most popular option. Seats are first come first serve, if you want to sit up top make sure and get there early. You get to learn a lot about what makes this area so special and see some of the natural attractions, (Witches Gulch and Standing Rock) that you probably wouldn't see other words. Was in the Dells with our dog this past fall and was looking for some dog-friendly things to do and this popped up! We squeezed it in on our last day in the Dells before driving home and it was the perfect way to end the trip. We did the upper Dells boat tour. The scenery is incredible with views from the water. The boat tour also takes you to the Witches Gulch which is only accessible by boat. The tour guides really are the ones that make the tour and were funny and educational and provided insight into the history, culture, geography of the area. I recommend getting there early to reserve your spot on the boat and to line up early to get first pick of the seats. Be on the lookout for coupons! I think we found one in one of the tour brochures at our hotel and used it for our tickets. We went in the off season so there was plenty of street parking available, but they also have a lot down the street you can use as well! We did the Ghost Boat tour at 7p in July and it was fantastic. It boat ride started in daylight, we arrived at twilight and the second half was in the dark. Many reviews are saying it was lame and not scary, but that is all in perspective. It depends on how scared you get. I had a group of 12 people, including 4 juveniles ages 9-15. Only 1/2 of our group made it all the way through to the end. The 12 y.o. dropped out as soon as she saw the first ghost and the 9 y.o. dropped out when he was chased and scared by a ghost. All the of the adults who made it through were scared at least once. They have boats arriving and departing all through the evening, so you can take your time and return on any boat. There is a 15 min boat ride through the dells before arriving at the Lost Canyon. There is a long slightly uphill and uneven walking path to get to the restrooms and waiting building before the ghosts appear. You will walk to the end of the canyon and return on a different path to the beginning. It is not recommended for children under age 10, but there were two young boys on my tour who made it to the end. FYI: the ghosts do a lot of screaming and stalking. There is one very narrow canyon walk, some flashing lights, and one completely dark tunnel. read more

The staff is wonderful. I did the upper boat tour that was about 2.5 hours long. You do get off the boat twice along the way. I have mobility issues so the last stop to Stand Rock I did not get off because of the grade you have to climb. You do sit in lawn chairs so if you are on the bigger side it may be a tight fit. There are restrooms and a snack bar at Witches Gulch. No restrooms on the boat. It was a nice relaxing couple hours for me. I was pretty annoyed, but understood once we got out on the water. We had to go down the old river bed, which the tour guide said is normally 3ft deep, but going down the narrows would be dangerous with the water level and current.
