Went in to see if they cut women's hair. They said; not usually. I told them I wanted a man's cut. So they said; "sure". Waited about 20 minutes and I hope I have the right name...Josh gave me exactly what I wanted! They only charge $25 a cut which includes this massage by hand held device! They only take cash or checks. Since I had neither they trusted me to come back with $. Don't forget to double down on tipping since it's so inexpensive for cut. Was sitting down waiting for service while listening to the employee talk about politics and then making a joke about cops as they drove by. Why would I continue to sit and listen to this? The service/wait time is slow and keep politics out of your business. I really hope that the rest of the employees don't bad mouth like this guy does. read more

This was my second time to Del's barber shop, the first was 25 years ago with my uncle. I can honestly say, not a heck of a lot has changed, some might call it retro, but it can't be retro if it's always been that way. It's now run by Jason, grandson to Del, and a self proclaimed liar (more on that in a minute). The small shop is staffed with four barbers with a combined barber experience of over 100 years. As you've probably read in other reviews, it's best to prepare for a wait, but the wait can be fascinating. There are four distinct conversations going on at the same time that occasionally merge into one when the subject veers into sports. This is the old school kind of barber shop with walls covered in sports memorabilia and mirrors all around for a good view of what's going on. There's even an old style barber pole, altho it doesn't spin. Every cut is $25, the conversation is free. So about Jason being a liar, his words not mine. It all comes from the way he answers the phone (he's the owner and closest to the phone stand). People will often call to see how long the wait is, Jason will never tell you it's longer than 20 minutes, even if the waiting area is standing room at that point. It was a trick his father taught him about human nature and he's used it ever since. Other than that, I found Jason to be a good talker and a great barber. Del's Barber Shop has been a local spot since 1959, and in it's current location since 1981 (they bought the building so they're not going anywhere). PRO TIP: If you call to ask about how long the wait is, and the voice on the other end of the line says, "20 minutes" be prepared to wait for your chance in one of Del's chairs. Great Group of Gentleman., All are equally capable of delivering a stellar haircut for a seriously beyond reasonable price. There is not a chair there that I'm fearful of getting in-to. Well., one of the chairs I do close my eyes during the single-manned-procession that occurs. I'm always stunned and amazed by the facts that I hear and the final outcome in quality is second to none. The wait, is never long and the brevity in the room passes the time even if you sit w/ a buttoned lip. Del's delivers and so should You, remember these guys have Lives & Wives & Family and they are going out of their way to make You look good. Try and at least meet them in the middle w/ your tip. If Things are going well for You Double_Down. What, You can't afford to tip $20.00 on a $22.00 dollar haircut that'll last you 3-4 weeks. That's like $1.46 a day but You pay it up front. Never write reviews but this place gave me bad vibes. as soon as I walked in some dude in his late 30''s slicked black hair approached me and gave me the dirtiest look asking if I need a cut. I proceeded to explain to him how I wanted the haircut, during this time I was standing up in front of the mirror trying to explain it to him, during the time he demanded I sit down around 5 times as if I didn't listen the first time, I was just explaining it to him before I sat down. For a much cheaper price and quicker service, my son was in and out looking good for his homecoming dance. Plus, I love supporting a family business (even better that this is multigenerational). Very cool spot to get an overpriced haircut. I tried to get a haircut here two different times, once I waited over 40mins, no one said a word to me, as if I was supposed to know how daily operations here at Del's ran. The haircuts run at around $22ish and you get to waste an hour just waiting for them to get to you. I understand this is an iconic barbershop of Escondidio and that it appeared on tv but what the heck, time is money. I gave this place five stars because I never stuck around long enough to get a haircut from one of these barbers. So I'm not really sure as to what the quality of their intended service is like. Meh, asked for a specific blade length I've been getting the same fade haircut for years and could tell he used a longer blade. Also trimming my sideburns got so caught up talking to the other barbers he forgot to trim the other side and had to remind him as we finished. Lots of talk about politics, guns and crime by immigrants and stuff like that by both staff and patrons. Agree or disagree with the point of view it's just weird to talk about stuff that could alienate half the customers who walk in the door or who don't want to talk about politics. We went in just before closing, which I hate to do. We have a wedding to go to and due to illness, we had to go at the last minute. Josh cut my hair and Meredith cut my husband's. Even though it was close to closing time, Josh took his time and even finished my cut with a strait razor and shoulder massage. I had my worst experience ever at this Barbershop! Now, I patiently waited my place in line as everyone. The Barber had been chatting with the guy who was after me... obviously they knew each other. So my turn was up... the Barber decided to put-up posters, sweep the floor, basically killing time. All the the Barbers we're busy with a client.
