I contacted Delta to help arrange travel for a family member, and from beginning to end, the representatives treated the matter with compassion and care. There was a point where the chat session timed out while the reservation was in progress. What I appreciated most was that the next representative reviewed the conversation and picked up where the previous agent left off. That continuity meant a great deal and helped make a sensitive process much easier to manage. I also highly recommend having a SkyMiles account. Being a member seemed to make the process smoother and more personalized, and in moments like this, that added convenience really matters. I've flown with Delta out of all the Bay Area airports for over a decade now, and have to say that I enjoy my experience most from Oakland airport. Out of SJC, SFO, and OAK, Delta has the smallest presence in Oakland. Currently, Oakland only operates to Salt Lake City on a regular basis, with seasonal flights to Atlanta during the summer. Delta used to fly to Los Angeles from Oakland, but they recently axed that service. I used to fly the Oakland-Los Angeles route all the time with Delta - so I'm pretty sad that they discontinued this route. However, from past experiences, Delta has resumed the LAX route from Oakland on various occasions... so yes, I am hopeful they'll resume this route one day. As a Delta medallion member, it's fairly easy to get upgraded from Oakland airport. Fewer elite members fly from Oakland. Understandably though, as there the routings are limited. Regardless of this, service has continued to be friendly and quick. If I ever need to be routed via SLC, I'll be sure to fly with Delta. read more

I had 4 legs on my trip , 3 of which involved mechanical problems. Requiring us to be too late for upcoming flights and one that included a cancelled flight. That one included being booked into an airport hotel (Clarian). The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Essentially what you would expect in a 3rd world country. The Worst Airline Experience I've Ever Had - Avoid Delta at All Costs Our flight with Delta was scheduled to depart from Chattanooga (CHA) to Miami (MIA) on Friday, June 27th. What followed was the most frustrating and disappointing airline experience of my life. Our flight was delayed five separate times, and we ended up waiting at the airport for over 10 hours. Each time the delay was announced, we were assured by Delta staff that the flight was still happening. Then, at 2:00 AM, after a full day of waiting, they abruptly canceled the flight. We explained that we had to be in Miami by 10 AM for a cruise and even offered to drive to any airport within four hours if they could get us on a different flight. Delta staff refused to offer any alternate options. They told us we could purchase tickets with another airline and that Delta would reimburse us -- this turned out to be a complete lie. After three hours on the phone with Delta customer service, they refused to take any responsibility or reimburse us for anything. We had no choice but to book a last-minute flight on our own, which cost over $800 more than the flight we originally booked months in advance. To make matters worse, we also had to pay $100 for a hotel room that we never got to use due to the delays. But if we hadn't made these emergency arrangements, we would have lost thousands of dollars by missing our cruise. Delta's lack of accountability, terrible customer service, and complete disregard for their passengers turned an exciting trip into a nightmare. I had a flight out of Oakland with Delta on October 18, 2024 that was to leave around 5:30 am. Meaning I need to be there by at least 3:30 am. I am a senior citizen and was headed to DC. and had my reservation at least a month ahead of time. I arrived at the airport and went to the Ticket Agent only to be told my flight had been canceled. They told me I could go to San Jose San Francisco or wait to book another flight. That was the beginning of a hell day for me. My flight was to have a stop in Salt Lake City. Now they were rerouting me through Atlanta and I was not leaving until about 5 pm. I was headed to a meeting that evening and my flight was paid for by an Agent. So I was not going to pay out of my pocket and was stuck With Delta. They put me on a plane to Salt Lake City then Atlanta and left me there almost all night. I was sent to a Hotel about 12 pm and had to be back early the next morning for the flight to DC. This is how Delta Airlines treats their passengers and I felt very disrespected and missed the meeting I was headed to. They could have booked me on another plane but refused to. It did not end because when I was headed home 4 days later they had canceled the 2nd leg of my flight. So I was dropped off at the Airport about 2 pm but did not fly out until about 7 pm and still had to go through Atlanta and then Salt lake City! My original flight was one layover in Salt Lake City and then to DC and it did not happen like that! I had another flight with Southwest Airlines this past week and it was the difference between day and night! The planes arrived on time the ride was smooth and there was one layover. The connecting plane also arrived on time and they were crowded but orderly and if Delta has a very poor service. It was at one time one of my favorites but has gone down hill! They had such poor disrespectful service and did not even offer me a meal ticket after taking up my entire day coming and going. read more

So, I don't usually fly with Delta. I honestly didn't even fly with them this time around because they literally kept delaying my flight until I finally ended up having to book another one with Southwest while I was sitting there waiting for hours for them to "cancel". It's one thing if my flight is delayed. I understand that sh!t happens, but to keep delaying it for hours instead of just canceling is crazy. They were clearly trying to avoid giving everyone a refund. Also, they were completely unorganized. Instead of trying to rebook us on another flight, they basically gave us all a 1800 number to call as we were waiting to see what was going to happen with our flight. Of course, nobody ever picked up while I was on hold. And how would they when there's 100 other people trying to call the same damn number at the same time. My flight was going to Utah and I needed to pick up my rental and drive out to Price which is almost 2 hours away. I just ended up booking a flight with Southwest and walked over to their terminal so that I'd make it there on time. Had absolutely no issues with that flight whatsoever and I wished that I had just booked with them originally. Of course, I was out of money with Delta for the other flight. They never offered to reimburse me for the inconvenience, but after filling out a complaint request, they did eventually refund me for it. I'm grateful for this, but I also felt like it only made sense to do so because it was such an inconvenience for me. After this experience, I probably wouldn't fly with Delta anymore. read more

The positive, the in-flight crew were great. Now the bad, I know this is a FIRST WORLD PROBLEM...but since we are in a first world, I get to give a review. When I had purchased two first class tickets to New York for our niece's graduation. I had asked the Customer Service Representative if Delta has a First Class Lounge, to which they replied, yes. Our trip to Salt Lake City was in Coach, since it was a short flight I didn't say anything. The lay over was short enough, so we didn't partake in the "available, said, First Class Lounge". But I did think it was odd that the first part of the leg was in coach...again, short leg. Our return flight, we got the airport early enough to "enjoy the first class lounge" only to be told unless we are "American Express Platinum, Delta Frequent Flier Card holder" we could not partake in the lounge. These tickets cost $4,000 round trip! I explained to the staff at the front desk that I was told that we would have access to the lounge. They had said "you must have misunderstood". I explained, I could not have misunderstood a direct question and answer. They then proceeded to show me pictures of the credit cards that I need to possess in order to enter the lounge, because apparently I need a visual. I am sorry, but I asked a direct question to the agent, for which I was informed we would have access to said lounge only. We spent again $4,000 and DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE LOUNGE??? there is something terribly wrong here. Never will I fly Delta. I would rather take Southwest! The 3 stars is for the crew. Delta offers a large amount of entertainment and free medium speed WiFi for those long flights. I liked Delta because I was able to watch some live action anime films and Kung-Fu movies I never saw before. They also offer free meals, complimentary snacks and beverages. I flew Norwegian and you had to pay for everything! The things I didn't enjoy were the uncomfortable seats especially since my flight was 15 hours long and the meals. It's your typical airplane meal that means it's going to be really gross tasting. I flew Delta three times during my trip, two out of the three had good boarding service. Why did the flight from New York provide such crappy service though? They almost didn't let me on the plane even though I had a ticket and my family was telling them to let me on. Wtf! If I could give Delta negative 5 stars I would but unfortunately 1 is as low as I can go with this app. I was on a flight Sunday to San Francisco returning home from Atlanta. When I got home I realized to my horror that I had left my C-Pap medical device in the overhead compartment in the row in front of me. As usual my overhead compartment was completely full so I had to do it in the row ahead of me. I panicked because I can't sleep properly without this device so I called Delta Airline and it literally took me 45 minutes on the phone to get a live person. I kept getting a message that told me how to file a lost and found claim but I did not have much faith in that process so I was hoping to get in touch with the live person that could help me. Years ago I was on a United airlines flight and my wife left her iPad in the seat pocket in front of her. We called the airline immediately and they sent someone to recover her iPad from the plane and she had it that night. I was hoping that I might be able to recover the device that night. When I finally reach a live person on the phone from Delta I explain my situation and After about 90 seconds of listening to my story she said I will transfer you to someone that can help. She sent me to that same damn voicemail hell that I had been dealing with for 45 minutes. I tried for another half hour to reach another live person but to no avail. Today is four days since I lost the device and every day I get an automated email that says we are doing our best to find your lost item we know how important it is to you. It is clearly not very important to the airline or else they would hire enough personnel to answer the phone and have ways to assist people in these situations. The take-home message here from Delta is that if you accidentally leave something on one of their planes don't Count on ever seeing it again. And certainly don't count on Delta doing anything to help. If, by some miracle they do find My medical device I will update this review. By the way if anyone is interested it will cost me $1500 to purchase a similar machine. I know it's my fault I'm the one who forgot it and left it on the plane but it sure would be nice to at least have a person on the phone to talk me through the process. This is an update to the review posted. I received my last item in the mail on Friday. It was three weeks after I lost it but at least I got it back. Delta managed to delay a flight in a perfectly fine weather, so of course we missed our connecting flight in Salt Lake City (which they told us we'd be able to make), had to stay in Salt Lake City for the night (thank you Yelp for giving me some interesting bar/lounge options to check out while there for the night)- and was told we were confirmed for the first flight in the morning. But when we got to the gate in the morning they said we were on standby and we wouldn't make the flight...and we could wait TWO DAYS to take the next available flight to our destination (Durango, CO). The Delta people have the most antiquated booking system possible as the woman was unable to find any other flights for us- even on other airlines. So, we pulled out our iphones and looked for flights on Kayak- and had to tell the lady that yes, there were other flights availabe because WE COULD BOOK THEM OURSELVES ON OUR DAMN PHONE (thank you Kayak). I will skip the rest of this hellish trip as it brings me to tears to even think about. Oh, did I mention that they managed to lose our luggage, which was an added bonus for the christmas holidays. Oh, and no one answers their phone, was literally on hold for 30 mins each time we called. I HATE DELTA. On my return flight, we found out that Delta just decided to cancel the flight...no other airlines did this. So, currently we are figuring out how to get back to the Bay Area, as we have been screwed by Delta Airlines for the last time. I will never fly Delta again. Nor should you. read more

Every time I make a reservation on Delta, they change the flight times a bunch of times before my trip. I spend lots of time trying to find a flight that I can afford that isn't a redeye and doesn't get me in at midnight. Then Delta changes the flight so I get in at midnight. I've already paid a fortune to travel at Christmas time. As far as I'm concerned, they made an agreement with me to provide what I paid for and then reneged on the deal. Despite the fact, our confirmation number was invalid at the auto check kiosk, our experience flying Delta was pleasant. We didn't pay for any type of FIRST class seats, so I can't complain. We flew in a small commuter plane with three seats across. The set up was window, seat, aile, two seats then window. Service was good. I especially like the Sun Chips that come with our refreshment. Since I'm not a huge peanut fan! I give props to the stewardess holding down the plane all by herself. Her job sucks especially because there are all kinds of genius passengers. I'm usually a fan of Delta. Flying out of SLC all the time, you really have to be. And although it's been up and down for me with them, they seem to have pulled it together after the big merger several years ago. Delta in Oakland is alright. You don't get the thug treatment here like you do at SFO by landing at gate Z-4,214 which is only 49 miles from baggage or a labyrinth-like trek away from AirTrain. In Oakland, you actually get a decent spot in the airport and luggage claim and you feel like a legitimate member of society. That also means there's plenty of ground and luggage support, so if there's any problems you'll probably have an agent there to lend a hand. Delta + OAK. Works for me. read more

Red eye flight to Minneapolis was canceled within an hour of boarding. Layover was 5 hours long which was ample time to re book. The staff took no responsibility and were very apathetic about the many people who were incredibly inconvenienced. What a stupid company with stupid management. I have accumulated some 100,000 miles over the years. So, today I tried to book a hotel using miles. Their website to do this is the worst ever customer interface. I dare anyone out there to try to get to the correct pages to book a hotel on your own. So, the main page of the website has a box to click that says "Shop with Miles". Yes! Click. You do not see any hotel tab, but there is a tab marked "More". It has a dropdown marked "Shop Hotels". Ah, perfect, except when you go to it, you select a city and see hotels, choose one and the price comes up in dollars only. Say What? How do you use miles? So, I called their customer service line and got a 41 minute call back. To use miles, you have to type in "Skymiles Marketplace" in the search and go to then go to a tab marked "Delta Airlines Marketplace and Magazines". Sure! Then go to tab "Shop in Marketplace". Then go to the travel photo and click on it where you finally get the correct window to use your miles. Either the management is stupid and do not care about their customer experience or they purposely make it very difficult to use their miles for hotels. Methinks no more Delta flights for me!!! One star for courtesy. I had a flight to NY with a connecting flight to Salt Lake city. I was first notified that the flight was delayed one hour, and then at the ticketing counter, delayed until..??? The woman there offered to get me on a flight to NY leaving out of SFO one and a half hours later, but took TWENTY MINUTES TO BOOK THE FLIGHT and then at the end of it all, called the shuttle which arrived another 20 mins later. The shuttle guy looked at me and told me that there was no way we could arrrive to SFO on time. The next flight leaving out of Oakland was 5 hours later. Are you kidding me??!?!? And EVERY other person had their flight either delayed, changed or just canceled (and none of it was due to weather). People were PISSED!!!! I am going to start by saying "IT IS MY OWN DAMN FAULT!" I was so engrossed in a book that I almost missed my flight! I was sitting right in front of the gate and I looked up and they were almost done boarding. I was one of the last three people boarding. As I walked down the walkway I noticed a group of carryon roller luggage had congregated at the end of the walkway. I turned and asked the gentleman behind me why and he kindly explained that we were boarding a smaller plane and the luggage could not fit in the overhead. So I left my luggage however; as I walked away I couldn't help but wonder why the other bags were wearing bright pink tags. The plane landed (it was THE smoothest landings I had ever experienced) and as I walked out of the plane many people were standing in front the plane waiting for their luggage. So I waited, they brought out all the bags with bright pink tags. OOOH! Pink tags meant planeside luggage! So of course my bag did not come. The customer service was great, I had the ground crew and pilot looking for my luggage. The pilot finally told me to go ahead and go in (it was kind of a cold night in Salt Lake City) and my bag would be on my connecting flight. I had to ask him how would they know if it was my bag or not if it did not have a check in tag or a pink tag. He was so patient in answering my question, he told me my bag would be the only bag with out a tag! DOH! So I am walking from the plane to the terminal (I am on the ground just a bit from the runway) and the door is closed. Okay, it is dark, cold and I am locked out of the terminal because by now all the other passengers are inside and they forgot about me! So I knock on the window trying to get the attention of people who are just right on the other side about two feet away. No one notices me. I walked around but I was not sure what direction to walk because I did not want to end up on the runway. I could not find anyone not even the ground crew who was helping me! Finally, a Delta employee started running towards me and I explain my situation and he walks me to the terminal, he walks in and then I see another Delta employee running towards me it is one of the grounds crew - they need my flight number for my bag. So I provide the info and proceed to walk to the door - which is shut again and the guy who opened the door for me is inside the terminal. I guess he remembered I was supposed to come in with him and he opened the door apologizing profusely while laughing because he forgot about me! I could do nothing but laugh with him. Despite the fact it was MY OWN DAMN FAULT!, I received great customer service which has made Delta Airlines my new favorite air carrier. PS - my bag was waiting for me at the new gate. read more

This particular experience and flight from OAK to LAX was a very good one. The flight was on-time and the staff was very friendly. In the coach cabin, they served a packaged cookie on the short 1 hour flight! Some airlines only offer a drink on a similar type flight, so that was a nice touch. However, the best thing about this experience was that I was given an unexpected upgrade to first class without asking/purchasing. I guess they must have randomly chosen me. I vowed never to travel on Delta again after a horrible experience a couple years ago. We landed at an airport 45 min EARLY. Sat on the tarmac for over an hour and then I missed my connecting flight. WTF. Ugh.I had to get on another flight like 3 hours later, but it was seriously annoying. Plus my bladder was about to burst as we sat on the tarmac. I wasn't allowed to get up and go use the restroom. =( Anyways, cheap prices to LAX made me reconsider, so I decided to try them again. As I'm sitting here writing this review, our flight has been delayed TWICE. And these are last minute delays. At first I thought it was because of bad weather in LA, but I hear boarding calls for JetBlue going down to LA, so not sure what is up with Delta, but seriously, get your act together. WORST. From the beginning delta has not been helpful, reliable, on time, or customer service friendly. They charged us an additional $50 at checkout for taking an extra minute to confirm our reservation, our first flight was 2 hours late, then it was 3 hours late with no explanation as to why! When we missed our connection, delta was not responsive. Luckily Aeromexico was! And when we returned to LAX and OAK the flight was, again, 3 hours late with out an explanation and our tickets were redistributed without us knowing. NOT flying delta ever again. Pros: Get places more quickly than driving Cons: More expensive than driving Meh. I'll elaborate but that is honestly the most singular and pure description of delta. They've never done anything to blatantly screw me over, but they've never wowed me either. Some of the flight attendants are nice, some are neutral, some seem a little snippy. Sometimes the flight is on time, sometimes it is delayed due to weather etc. Their prices are fair. You get one small bag and one carry-on and you pay 25$ for each checked bag. read more

Booked ticket for my son to go to Japan for this summer. Direct flight was 40% more, so booked Delta with connection at LAX since if there is any problem, there is relative near he can take cab to. Booked Feb to now (2 1/2 months), already received 3 notifications of flight schedule change. But 3rd one was problem. If you have been to LAX custom and try to catch connecting flight within 2 hours, YOU KNOW YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT!!! I called to have them changed to flight for later --- since originally I booked ticket with 3 hours between flights. They wanted to charge me difference. If I could, I will cancel entire ticket with Delta.... I WILL MAKE SURE MY FAMILY WILL NOT FLY DELTA AGAIN Now created me extra work.... I need to think backup plan read more
