For our group trip to Mexico City, we determined that we could fly Aero México out of SFO or Volaris from OAK. Given our proximity to OAK, we opted for Volaris for our roundtrip flights. The airline is considered the Southwest Airlines of Mexico. The fare was very reasonable and we paid $23.99 for carryon luggage up to 44lbs. and $19 for the Premium seats or exit rows. The $19 for the Premium seats are very reasonable compared to what other airlines charge. Since we checked-in for our flight 24 hours prior to departure and we did not have a check-in bag, they will check your passport at the gate about half an hour before boarding. The upgrade for the Premium seats was well worth it, not only for the extra leg room, but you get Group 1 boarding so you don't have to worry about overhead space for your bag. The planes were new and clean. There is no in-plane entertainment or USB ports. You can buy snacks and beverages. In flight crew were courteous and helpful. We had similar experiences on both flights. No complaints. On our next visit to Mexico, we will fly Volaris again. read more

Worst airline ever. Avoid if at all possible. Could not check in online. At the departure desk they had to charge me a $55 tourist fee. All my cards were declined. I called my credit card company and they assured me my card was good and the problem was on the merchant side. They could not get it to work so, fortunately, I had cash which they took. I had arrived at the airport hours early, sat in a nearby lounge until 11:55 and went to the gate to board a 12:30 flight. The gate was empty. No agents no passengers. I went to the next gate and the volaris agent there told me they had already boarded everyone and I had missed my flight though the plane was still at the gate. While I was standing there arguing, I received the one and only text message from volaris telling me that boarding was closing at 12:15! So I missed my flight. Next day, they boarded us into the sky bridge for the same flight at 11:55, held us there for 20 minutes, then had us all go back out because they had discovered mechanical issues. It is now 12:30 and they have no idea if the plane can be repaired or if we will be leaving or not. read more

I had flown here several times. You have to pay extra to get an assigned seat which is crazy because you're already paying for a seat. The boarding absolutely doesn't make sense. I was on the 3 road but boarded on the second round. I guess the people who pay for luggage go first. So boarding is an absolute nightmare. The flights are pretty pricey and they definitely sell peoples seats. They sell snacks on the plane but you get nothing but the seat. They are late a lot of the time causing absolutely panic. Be careful when purchasing for a family member if you are logged into your account because the information will refresh and put the ticket under your name. I was not aware of this because on the form it asks for the information of passenger and now I have to pay a 90-110 dollar fee to change the ticket under my family members name. If you are planning purchasing for a family member make sure you buy under guest. read more

If I didn't follow up on my app. I would have shown up to the airport only to find out my flight got cancelled. AeroMexico is way better and free beers. Do not, I repeat, do not fly Volaris. We booked thru Expedia not knowing that Volaris charges $89 to check in a bag each way. Never heard of such price gouging in my life. They also charged $49 teach way for a carry on. They entice you with a low fair and get you with a ridiculous charge after booking as they only give you 24 hours to cancel. We didn't pick our seats or luggage until after not realizing the scam. We did expected seat and luggage fee - went into a state of shock. They also charge you for coffee and water. The plane was kept unreasonably cold and glad I had a cover up - another passenger complained about it being so cold, asked for a blanket and was charged $12. Are you kidding!!!!! SAD! read more

Horrible experience. If you buy tickets for your family. Be aware that if you don't BUY SEATS (additional charge) they will scatter you all around and don't care. I traveled with MINORS and they separated me. Thats just wild to me. My 3 year old and 7 year old cried over the stress of not flying with their mother!!!! The manager in charge is Mr.Olano at the OAK airport and he will blacklist you for speaking up. Volaris needs to get better staff and knowledgable management . THE WORST AIRLINE EVER. Forget the flight itself, we paid for insurance to refund 100% of the ticket incase of an emergency. There was a DEATH in our family and they still charged us for the cancelation. Not only that but you cant speak to anyone, NO ONE ANSWERS. They tell you to speak to someone through chat on WhatsApp and they LITERALLY dont respond. This Airlines customer service is BEYOND SHIT. Spent $1100 which actually was not cheap. But then our reservation code stopped working - flight not found!! You cannot reach a human, I've tried it all and spent hours. Also, you cannot cancel, and modifying a flight costs more than the initial flight. I've tried to deny the charge with my CC company, but Volaris has enough pull to prevent it. Horrendous. Literally a scam of an airline. TLDR: They booted us off the flight because of a delay, and then would not pay the refund they promised us. They essentially stole almost $700 from me. We were at the gate ready to board when our names were called, along with 6 or so others, and told we needed to exit the terminal and return to the check-in gate for our options. We were told, along with at least one other couple, that the reason we weren't allowed to board was because the delay would cause us to miss our connection. There was another person who was told they were not allowed to board because the flight was overbooked. At the check-in gate they gave us two options, leave on a flight the following day, or accept a refund. We accepted the refund and booked a flight on a different airline. When we called the number given to us by the check-in gate staff. They said they could not refund because their system didnt show the flight was delayed. Which is not true obviously, and I have screenshots to prove it. I submitted the same complaint online along with the screenshots to prove the delay. They basically just said "sorry no". I am disputing the charge through my credit card. If that doesnt work I might actually sue. This was insane. read more

Terrible Experience - Wasn't Even Able to Fly I wasn't even able to fly with Volaris on March 30, 2025, at 4:45 PM because they overbooked the flight and canceled two of the three seats I had booked months in advance--one for my brother and one for my sister. While my seat was still available, I obviously wasn't going to fly without them. Volaris made no effort to resolve the issue and offered absolutely no assistance. To make matters worse, they didn't provide compensation, a hotel stay, food, or any kind of support. I was forced to book a last-minute flight with another airline for the next day since there were no available flights that same night. This cost me over $2,000, plus an extra $100 for food and drinks while I had to stay up all night and all day at the airport. We were stranded there for over 14 hours, and during this time, both of my siblings suffered from dehydration due to the lack of proper rest and resources. The lack of professionalism and customer service from Volaris was beyond frustrating. This was my first experience with them, and it will definitely be my last. Left stranded in Mexico. They canceled my flight the morning of. Paid $850 to get on a southwest flight as I needed to be home that day. When talking to customer service they wouldn't let me talk continued to talk over me and then hung up on me. I'm i'm writing this review based on my experience airline I have flown before many times. This is the first time this where I miss my flight. I booked for the wrong dates when I got to the counter to check in I found out that I booked for the day before to a manager, and the manager refused to help question number one was the purpose of having a manager who spends time socializing with his instead of resolving issues that the customers have manager didn't even bother to come and talk which in this case was me. I Requested on the counter for a refund or Voucher. I missed my flight , I showed up to fly, and I purchased the ticket for the wrong date ! I was on the counter and Manager refused to grant me credit nor to place me on a different flight , he was busy socializing with another employee! 12/20/2024 3:00pm And then yet my flight was sold to another customer ! Avoid this airline at all costs! After an 8 hour delay with no communication at all to customers nor anyone around to speak to, when I arrived at my destination, my bag never made it. They had me fill out a form and told me they'd deliver it in a few days when it makes it on the next flight. I never heard from them. I tried calling and they never answer. I message them daily on WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, via email, and even submitted a form on their website (which they told me I'd hear back in 24-48 hours). It's been almost a month and they won't even reply to me. I literally try to contact them daily. Any other airline, if they lost your bag, would at least answer the phone or email, explain their policy, and compensate you. Volaris has a lost bag policy on their website (with a terrible compensation amount, only like $80 USD, which doesn't even cover the cost of the bag itself), but they won't ever get back to you if you lose your bag. Essentially their policies are meaningless if they don't follow through with them. They scam customers and are untrustworthy. This company is terrible and based on their lack of replies to customers, I wonder how they are still in business. I'll never fly with them again. read more

You will not be able to check in unless you pay for the additional visa fee for Mexico. It took me two hours to figure out the reason why I could not check in, after lots of texts with volaris they finally figure out what was missing. Unless you pay the extra $41.50 you won't be able to check in. I was also told there are no supervisors to help, they do not have that service. Even if you have double citizenship that allows you not to pay their website does not accept the proof of your documents from Mexico. No use complaining.. so a dishonest way of selling low price airfare tickets. They need to include it on the airfare and let you know that the tourist fee paid or not paid. read more

I received an email 2 months later stating Volaris cancelled my departing flight but was kind enough to re-book me 2 DAYS later....not going to work. I called and asked for a refund for my departing flight which they eagerly agreed to. Months later, I still hadn't received my refund. I called Volaris, they informed me "our system states we issued the refund" but my bank disagrees. I disputed the departing flight charged and was refunded by my bank. As a Thank You from Volaris, they sneakily and WITHOUT PERMISSION NOR KNOWLEDGE, cancelled my departing flight. Which I came to know when trying to check in at the airport in Mexico. Volaris is one of the WORST airlines I have used along with FRONTIER!!! We only used them b/c Aeromexico did not have any later flights but I do not recommend them AT ALLLLL!!!!! The staff are not fully trained and some are RUDE. I have gotten told different information by every employee. I had made a reservation for my father at 11 pm and called at 9am the next morning to cancel the reservation because he needed to extend his trip and I was told I was unable to cancel it. I asked to talk to a manager and the manager told me I was given the wrong info and I was able to get refunded since it was within 24 hrs. Then I had to change my mothers flight b/c she needed to extend her trip and again I was told the wrong info. They told me the changing fee was $110 and had to pay an additional like $300, which made no sense b/c if I paid for another flight it was cheaper. And then when my aunt changed her flight they only charged her $70 so who was really doing their job correctly? Again I spoke to a manager and when I spoke to them he helped me make the changes and book my fathers flight but then when I was doing all that I asked him how many luggage's I had paid for on the original reservation and he told me 1, which was a lie b/c when I arrive to check in they told me I had a check in bag and a carry on. My luggage was 4 lbs heavier and I had to leave things behind b/c I was given then wrong information. If I was given the correct info I would have taken a carry on for my daughter or they could have let me take everything I had in the luggage with the additional 4lbs since I was given them wrong info but the lady said I couldn't so had to leave things behind. After checking in I called Volaris to make a claim and to talk to a manager and they keep telling me they will transfer me and hang up on me no matter what ext I dial. I tried making a claim through their What's App and someone has been msging me back when ever they feel like it. The service sucks and do not recommend this airline at all!!! read more

When I first reviewed this airline it must have been because their tactics to get new customers and impress them were working on me. I already have written a review somewhere else but it's all in Spanish so, I'm gonna try to summarize it. Because there were many things gone wrong, I'm just gonna tell you the main one and then give you some words of advice: THEY DOUBLE CHARGED MY BANK CARD. - Dealing with them was starting to become a headache, so I decided to file a claim for fraud with my bank. Thankfully, I was reimbursed for that non-existent ticket they charged on my account. Volaris is the only airline at OAK that has red-eye flights. The only advantage to this is that you don't have to wait for anyone when you go through customs. My advice: 1) STOP! Do not buy a ticket unless you do it online with an account. This way you will have a record of your transaction. This will come in handy if they fuck up and try to blame you for it. 2) If they overcharge you, or simply charge you for extra tickets you didn't purchase. STOP, do not try to sort it out with them, file a fraud claim with your bank. It will be much easier. 3) Avoid Guadalajara airport at all costs. It stinks everywhere. 4) Round Trip? STOP. Do not buy your way-back ticket at "Want to Save" fare. There is zero changes. Spend the extra $50 for "Want to Fly" fare which allows some changes (charged extra) 5) Only fly Volaris if you absolutely have to. There are millions of other airlines with much more experience and it will make your trip better. P.S. If you do not speak Spanish bring a dictionary.. a good percentage of their flight attendants do not speak a word of English! read more

Afterward, I get no confirmation and after a day, the charge isn't showing up on my account. I can't get through to anyone to confirm, so I end up buying a flight from another well known major airline. Two days later - Volaris charges my account! Still no confirmation, no one can be reached and no one returns my email. Plus, my bank won't help me since there are apparently tickets in my name and "The company provided the goods no matter how poor their customer service is." I had a very pleasant experience with this airline. As a first time flyer to Mexico I was a little nervous to fly to Morelia on my own (especially not being a native Spanish speaking and barely understanding the language). But I will say- some of these reviews paint a way less dependable experience than they delivered to me. Like any flying experience you just have to be aware, be early, and be flexible. My flights were on time, clean, and provided exactly what I was looking for- and inexpensive and safe flight to Mexico. I only do not give five stars because the space at your sit is very limited and little leg room with chairs that do not really recline much. The check in/bag check process was a little slow but what airline isn't? Give yourself at least 2 and half hours to get through everything. Again- this was a much more pleasant experience than I initially expected based on some reviews. I recommend.! read more

I am very upset with their customer service. June 11 2018 my flight for my wife, 3 children and daughters best friend was delayed. This was a huge impact on our vacation. I requested Volaris to Credit us our flights as this was a huge set back our vacation plans. This event effected our hotel stay and caused us to wait around for a very long time at the airport when we should of been at our destination. They put a time limit of 90 days on the voucher that was sent to us. The voucher was only offer $15 dollars per person...ridiculous! I just finished booking a few flight with Volaris and now I'm thinking of not booking my next connection flight through them as just thinking about it makes me feel they do not care! Bottom Line... a time limit is unacceptable for a voucher provided for screwing up my vacation....and $15 per person is not sufficient. Is Volaris not about Customer Service?
