We decided to hire a plaster expert to fix things and contacted 4 companies for estimates. Two companies responded and sent someone to quote the job. Juan at The Patch Brothers was one of the two. Juan arrived on time, was very friendly and personable, and like the other company that responded, suggested we consider covering the ceiling with 1/4" drywall instead of fixing the plaster. He clearly explained the benefits of putting up drywall, and provided quotes for both options within 24 hours of his visit. Juan's quote was slightly less expensive than the other company's quote, but the real reason we decided to hire The Patch Brothers is that I liked Juan more than I liked the other guy. We paid the 50% deposit and set the date for the work to begin. Juan's work crew arrived the morning we'd set for the work to begin, and Luis, one of the crew members, went over the projected work with me to make sure we had all the "t's" crossed and "i's" dotted. All 5 members of the work crew were friendly, personable, and treated our home and furnishings with the utmost care and respect. Everyone in the crew worked quickly and professionally, but also took the time to make sure everything was done right. If I'd taken "before" and "after" pictures of our carpet, you'd see no difference between the two photos. As far as the quality of the work, I helped my father-in-law build a house when I was younger, and over the years I've done several room renovations that required drywall work. I am pretty good at drywall installation and installing 1/4" drywall on our ceiling is well within my skill set. I could have done a very good job of installing the drywall myself. But I just turned 70, and even though I COULD have done it myself, having The Patch Brothers do the job was money well spent. Back in May/June 2025, I hired Handy Gentlemen for interior work on my house. It is now…read moremid-September. David, the owner, seems like a nice guy, and he did a good job replacing the tiles on my bathroom floor, and he (mostly his assistant) did a lot of painting, which on the whole looks good. But see below... The big issues were what I discovered after he was finished and had left: fresh paint stains in multiple areas, including the wood floor of my 19th century house and even furniture - which I cleaned up. Splattered paint near the ceiling of my kitchen which still, three months later, has not been patched, paint stains on my oriental rug, a major purchase 40 years ago, etc. David said he would pay for the rug damage, and I only asked for 50% of the very reasonable $175 cleaning cost. David told me to bill him via Zelle, something I said I'm not sure how to do. He already has my Zelle information, since that's how I paid him for the work. But after messaging him and emailing several times, he has not responded. And I still have paint streaks on the wall and an unpaid bill. So I can't recommend Handy Gentlemen. I think part of the problem is that David is under-manned and a bit overwhelmed, but not responding to my messages is unprofessional.
