This was my first time eating at this restaurant and it was mediocre. Service was okay. Salad bar has good choices, and plentiful, fresh fruit too, which was very good! I had the chicken fried steak w mashed potatoes- not much flavor and the mashed potatoes were stiff and didn't have flavor. My SO had the chicken croissant, which he said was tasty, he also had the soup (we cannot remember the name of it), but had rice in it, he really liked that and of course he was a huge fan of the salad bar. Restaurant was clean, nice decor, big fan of the use of a fabulous "old" building in Danville. I would definitely go back, and try another entree. read more

The food wasn't worth the money we spent., lasagna noodles were hard and my husband's prime rib was overcooked. Our waitress was pleasant and the service was good but the older women working the hostess was pretty unpleasant! This, sadly, is one of the few restaurants in Danville that is not a fast food place. The inside needs a serious update. The wallpaper was peeling, the menus were dirty. The whole place needs to be reworked. With that out of the way, the food was passable. I have chili and a philly steak sandwich, both were average. Good portion sizes and reasonable prices. The bottom line is:Choose Deluxe over fast food any time, but there are better places in Danville. read more

I'll drive over 100 miles from the east side of Indianapolis to return home and have a Monte Cristo sandwich, a chocolate shake, and their fabulous rice pudding. This is the BEST place to eat in Dantucky! I just wanted to add that I've been frequenting the Deluxe my whole life. I can remember shopping with my mother at The Fashion for an Easter Dress, stopping for shoes at Mossers, and then the highlight of the day would be lunch at the Deluxe. The Same family has owned it for the entire length of my memory, with almost always the same smiling face to greet you when you come in the door. Somethings change, but some things especially about home should stay the same and thankfully the quality of the Deluxe has never wavered in the past 40+ years. read more

The Deluxe is a family-owned restaurant (the owners are almost always in the kitchen and at the cash register) in downtown Danville. During the week it is filled with professionals on their lunch hours, and it does a brisk business on evenings and weekends. The highlights here include the halibut (look for the newspaper clippings in the lobby about filleting the gigantic fish that is flown in regularly)--which is simply one of the best fish preparations at this kind of restaurant that could be found anywhere--and the Greek fare (including hand-made gyros and locally-raised lamb). The four stars are really on the backs of these specialties. But if you're not up for that, don't worry: The Deluxe offers a menu full of diner fare that is just fine. There are tasty soups (my favorite is the lentil--the special on Thursdays) and sandwiches (from monte cristos to philly chicken); and I think their Greek-influenced spaghetti sauce is pretty darn good too. I've been here multiple times and have had a terrible experience every time!! The wait staff is friendly whenever they come around. And I don't think that is even their fault. I was there on a holiday and they only had two waitresses working on that huge restaurant floor and the place was packed. People couldn't even pay for their meals when they were done because no one was around. I seen people just walking out and leaving the money by the register. The food is terrible too. The French dip sandwich was really chewy and gross. Salad bar is ok if everything is fresh. And just because they redid everything in there to look really nice shouldn't give them the right to charge super high prices for freezer food. read more

The wait staff was friendly and prompt and the place is decorated nicely. That's the end of pleasant attributes. The place needed dusting and the booths had food in them. The salad dressing had an off taste. I kept tasting something bad. I thought it was just me or maybe a one item that got looked over. The bread was stale and the herb butter tasted like pure garlic salt. The Penne al a Vodka was NOT what I expected! It was a watery, slightly brown sauce that tasted like they reused their tomato soup and just added seasoning to it. The veggies were slimy and grossly overcooked. The chicken I paid $2.00 to add tasted freezer burnt. It was so terrible I felt sick after a couple bites. Even my pop tasted old? How is that? I paid $19 for all this... If I could give it zero stars, I would. Took reviews here at Yelp to heart and stopped in for dinner. The place was nearly empty, we sat and ordered. The place began to fill. Orders came out one after another, not ours. We ordered the restaurants specialty, halibut with soup and salad. The salad arrived, it was standard issue topped with a mushy tomato slice that gave us the impression no one in the kitchen, and certainly not our waitress, was paying attention. Then the fish arrived. At $20 in Danville Illinois we expected a nice sized piece of fish. It looked sandwich sized, pieced together, and as dry as the Mohave. We tasted, nice flavor but way too dry. I asked the waitress if the fish was looking right to her... I said it seemed really small and way too dry. She said it looked good to her and added, "what do you want me to do?" The owner was asked to come over. Someone else did. She agreed it looked normal but offered to cook another piece more rare if we wanted to wait... adding that the kitchen was busy. With upset kitchen staff stories in mind, we declined, accepted that the special fish dish at this restaurant is supposed to be small, pieced together, and very dry, and vowed never to step foot in this place again. Oh, then the owner, processing my credit card, commented that I was leaving no tip. (I'm typically a very good tipper). I told her the experience wasn't worthy of even 1% and we left. We were told the restaurant has been sold, the secret recipe for the halibut special was not included in the sale, and maybe that's why the meal was awful... they stopped caring, they found a buyer. We'd been in the car all day and the only places immediately around our hotel were fast food joints. So we got in the car again and drove the short distance to the Deluxe. I'm really glad we did! We were seated promptly and our waitress was attentive. There was a private party going on so it was a bit louder than I suspect is normal for the place, but we could still talk comfortably. They have a full bar and the beer list was very good. Much more expansive than I would have suspected for a place like that and the only downside was that they didn't have beer on tap, only bottle. The food was really good and huge portions! The dinners (we each had pasta meals) came with a bowl of soup or salad bar. My mom's soup was so large and full of homemade style noodles and chicken that she cancelled the rest of her meal and just enjoyed the soup! My dad and I had trips to the salad bar before bowls of pasta that were overflowing. The red sauce with meat was flavorful but not too challenging for my older parents. The chicken Parmesan was juicy, hot, crispy, and very good, but as much as I wanted to, there was too much to finish! I don't think I'll be in Danville again, but if I find myself passing through, I'd make time for the Deluxe. read more

Rich's Deluxe Restaurant. 21 W. North st. Danville, IL This restaurant was recommended by our dr. at the VA. We were looking for a home cooked meal with fresh ingredients and he said this was the place. I had the Pita Roll with chicken and it was excellent. Great tasting chicken with sauteed onions, peppers and a tasty sauce. Tomato bisque soup was just as memorable. My husband had the Philly Croissant and it was just as good as mine. These reviews are very outdated. The restaurant is totally remodeled, has a wonderful menu and is the most upscale restaurant Danville has seen in some time. I am so happy the owners went the extra effort. I have been to this restaurant since I was a child and it would be a pity if people read these reviews and did not give the new version a try. Tomato bisque soup is the best. Their Grecian chicken meal is hearty and delicious. I used to enjoy the Deluxe for its history. Now I enjoy it for its atmosphere and the wonderful food. read more

We discovered this gem while visiting from Texas. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the owners greet everyone like a friend. The food is very reasonably priced, and the portions are large. Very seldom were we able to eat everything. We were in Danville 6 days, and never went anywhere else after finding the Deluxe. (4 dinners and a breakfast) The Greek and American classic dishes were all very. very good. There were plenty of fish, Italian, and other dishes we didn't get a chance to try, but everything we ate was awesome. The standout was the bread they bring before the meal. Toasted, plain, buttered, fresh, eaten later on - it didn't matter, it was always phenomenal and highly addictive as a result. Don't bother asking whats in it, because it's "just an Italian bread" was always the answer :) We always ended up chatting at the register when we were done. We eat out a LOT, and we've used Yelp a long time now. This restaurant impacted me enough to finally sign up so I could write a review. read more

This is a nice regular restaurant that doesn't try to be something it's not. The menu has pretty much stayed the same from what I can remember since Moses ate there I believe. Very solid restaurant that you can take a large group of people (families too) and everyone will find something on the menu to enjoy. One thing to note is that most items are homemade. The owner lady is not very friendly. They also raised the prices and did not change their menus. When I went to pay my bill, it was alot more than I expected. The food and service used to really good. This was our favorite breakfast spot in the area. However, the last 3 visits here were really not that great. Orders never came out right. Sent it back, and the waitress or cook still didn't have it correct. You now have to tell them you want EVERYTHING that comes with your meals. If you don't, you won't get it. read more

After 2 disappointing family get togethers at the Beef House, we took a recommendation from a friend who lives in Danville & tried the Deluxe. We had 14 adults & 2 children traveling to meet from central & southern IL & IN. We called ahead & they had a table all set up for us. The menu selection was huge & almost everyone had something different & it was all good. I had the famous halibut & it was very good. I think I might have to make a trip back for the Mousaka though (SP?). The prices were very reasonable. The decor could use some updating but if that's what we've been paying all that extra money for at the Beef House it's not worth it. I'd chose to eat here over the Beef House any day. They had reasonable wine, which I really appreciate. We weren't crowded and the kids had a little space to play with the Xmas gifts we took them. read more

This restaurant is totally remodeled with new owners and menu. We ate there Saturday 6/7/14. My sister who was visiting from Alabama had they Lasagna Fritta and NY strip sandwich. Her words on the fritta - awesome. I had the Lasagna - super large piece and very good. My husband had the salad bar. All was very good. The restaurant look is great and our waitress was hands on. Danville should support this restaurant and take your guests. Great job guys! read more

I grew up in Danville and I moved away to Florida many years ago. I've been around the world and have eaten some of the best meals money can buy but the halibut that the previous owners prepared at the Deluxe has always been one of my favorite fish, so when I came home recently I was so excited to see it was still here. I used to work for Pete and Pat when I was a teenager and the food was great... Boy have things changed!!! Once I walked in the building I got the sense it was going to be bad, even though it was old the interior I remember had class and elegance, the remodel looks like the new owners did it the cheapest way possible. I've seen nicer interiors at most waffle houses. Everything was so cheap, the booths, tables, chairs, etc were the lowest quality I've ever seen. Once we were seated our waitress was so nice I began to relax and feel good being there. We ordered our food, I asked her about the halibut and she said its one of the most popular items on the menu, I was so excited I forgot all about the ambiance. She said to help ourselves to the salad bar so we went up to it and all I saw was 3 bowls, one had iceberg lettuce, one a blend of salad leaves, one spinach. There were boiled eggs, cheese, beets, and a couple of salad dressings, not actually what I would expect for a "bar". After we had our salads our meals were brought out, my Mom had perch, one of my sons ordered salmon and my other son had a cheeseburger. The food looked like what they serve you in the hospital, all veggies were canned, all of the fish was processed and frozen, probably pre plated weeks ago then thrown in the microwave when ordered. We all had baked potatoes that were served with plastic tubs of margarine and sour cream, these potatoes were so stale and cold, they must have been sitting around all day. The meat on the burger taste like cardboard. My halibut was so dry and tasteless I wasn't sure what it was, the waitress offered to cook me another and after waiting 15 min I finally got my plate, it looked like they took the same piece of fish and just poured a bunch of nasty sauce all over it. I told her I didn't want it and she offered to take it off my bill. As me and my family waited for the bill the owner, some woman who was walking around with a miserable face all night approaches our table, she begins to start yelling at me saying the fish was not dry, she continues on and on until I finally had enough, I told her I used to eat here a long time ago and I know how the halibut is supposed to taste, I wouldn't feed my dog the horrible food you serve here. She then begins speaking another language to her other miserable looking friend. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! THESE OWNERS ARE NASTY PEOPLE!!! AND THE FOOD IS EVEN NASTIER!! read more

service was excellent. food was impressive, except for one thing: i was not asked how i would like my burger cooked, and when i got it was medium well, which is not a good default temperature to cook a restaurant burger to. it made what was otherwise a delicious hamburger less so because the patty was so dry. hope this policy changes or it was just a mistake. read more
