I booked an appointment expecting to see an actual psychiatrist at 8:00 AM. I rushed to get there on time, and since I don't have a car, getting to this appointment was difficult. Despite all of that effort, Lalita Davidoff never showed up. I waited in the office until 8:45 AM with no communication. She eventually called me, and based on the call, I highly doubt she was even in the office -- it sounded like she was at home. This was supposed to be my first appointment with her and she created an awful first impression. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed maybe she had an emergency, so I agreed to take the call. Instead, she acted as if nothing was wrong and showed no acknowledgment of how unprofessional the situation was. The only reason I agreed to continue with a phone appointment was because it took weeks just to get this appointment, and I urgently needed care. Honestly, not being seen at all would have been better. I wasted hours of my time. She was extremely cold, dismissive, and immediately started talking about putting me on medication without doing a full evaluation. After researching the medication she prescribed, I realized how inappropriate it was to recommend something that strong without ever meeting me or conducting a proper assessment. It genuinely felt unsafe. I also truly believe that after I mentioned her tardiness, she became defensive and blamed me -- even going as far as to gaslight my mental health concerns. The entire interaction was unprofessional, careless, and unacceptable. I will be reporting this provider to the medical board. No one seeking mental health care should be treated this way.

I drove with my mom upset the entire way Luckily, when we arrived at the assisted living they found a wheelchair and 2 of their people took my mom immediately to the bathroom. There is a pretty bad language barrier on the 3rd shift. I was in there for knee replacement surgery and a couple of the CNAs during the night shift didn't under the phrase ICE PACK. Communication is pretty bad with two of the nurse supervisors. I won't mention them by name, but I think it's time for them to find other work. One of them almost made me miss a very necessary surgery and didn't bother to let me know that they were having problems faxing information over to the surgery center. I was having problems with a very loud neighbor across the hall, and the weekend night nurse supervisor said that if I didn't like it that I could go elsewhere. Apparently, she got written up for that. We did not speak after that. On the whole, the staff tries to do the best they can under the understaffing circumstances. Some of the CNAs are golden. The nurses are unbelievably giving with the brief time they have to offer. The housekeepers do a terrific job. The kitchen staff was very helpful. The monthly "candlelight dinners" were pretty cringe and while they're trying to do something special, I found myself wanting to leave every ten minutes. I think they went with the most mobile people. Pro tip: lose the Karaoke. Sweet gal who tries her best, but no. Just. No. I shared the bathroom with the patients next door. Both staff and the patients next door walked in on me doing my business more times that I care to remember. If you're going to see the show, buy a damn ticket! LOL. Or... learn to KNOCK. It's not that hard to raise your fist to the door. Unless you're missing a hand or something, then kicking is entirely appropriate. The Physical Therapy team was terrific. They went above and beyond. They recently had their yearly inspection from the City of LA. They ranked a 3. According to the people I spoke to who were in charge of the inspection, Northridge is one of the better Nursing Homes in the area, and that scares me. I did my best to treat everyone there with kindness and respect. I saw Alzheimer's up close with some of the patients. A stroke patient screamed like a siren. The patient across the hall from me is verbally abusive to the staff and they have to just shut up and take it. During the final days of my stay there I was this close to letting the bully have it. Now that I have had a chance to decompress, They did the best they could do with the resources they were given. I would not go there, however, if you have been injured or are recovering from surgery. I had knee replacement surgery and there was no structured plan in place to help me to get from point A to point B except to go to Physical Therapy. So I was on my own.

It's not something I take lightly, and there are a lot of emotions and decisions involved. From the very first phone call, Gabriel showed a level of care and patience that I honestly had never experienced over the phone before especially before even visiting the facility. He answered all of my questions, and what really stood out was that he also asked thoughtful questions to better understand our situation. He helped turn what was a very stressful moment into something that felt calm, manageable, and reassuring. Because of that conversation, I already felt confident that my father would be in the right place. When I actually toured the facility, I was pleasantly surprised. It is very clean, very well kept, and you can tell there is real attention to detail. Most importantly, I truly appreciated how much care and compassion the nurses showed toward my father. That meant a lot to me and my family during such a difficult time. Gabriel, truly thank you. I couldn't have navigated this without your guidance and care. I can confidently say that if I or anyone in my family ever needs help with something like this again, you will absolutely be the person we call.

Cleanliness all throughout the facility is evident and very important in a medical setting. Meals are nutritious. And they also provide snacks. My parents were living in an apartment in the independent living facility for 10 years when my father finally had to be moved to the Goldenberg-Ziman Special Care Center due to his dementia progressing to a point that required more attentive care. From the beginning, my mother, who is a retired nurse, realized that the care that was being provided the residents there was extremely lacking, even bordering on neglect, with mistakes being made frequently, such as with his medications. For example, my father is very unstable on his feet, so at night he urinates into plastic bottles so he doesn't have to walk to the bathroom. When my mom would show up mid-morning to visit him, she could see that the urinals still had not been emptied. She would complain to the staff, but nothing changed, and she eventually just started showing up earlier in the morning and taking care of it herself. Another example was that the "showers" that my dad received were basically someone splashing him down with water for a few minutes, then toweling him off. These are just a few examples of the lack of attentiveness and incompetence on the part of the staff. Eventually, my mom began showing up earlier and staying later in order to take care of my dad's needs, even going to all of his meals with him because of the constant errors that were being made with his dietary protocol. As my mother's presence there became a fixture, and after numerous instruction and reminders given to the staff, the care eventually started to improve. However, not so for the other residents, the majority of which didn't have family with a medical background who could advocate for them there and constantly keep tabs on things. Approximately two months into my dad's stay, my mom fell and broke her hip and ended up in the hospital, leaving my dad on his own for the first time since he enter the facility. Though my sister and I tried to visit as much as possible in order to try to take over for my mom, it was impossible for us. And just as we feared, his care completely eroded: he ended up falling and was sent to the ER; his diaper would hardly ever be changed and he would be sitting in a wet diaper often; my mom used to do his laundry, and even though we explained to them that this was no longer going to be the case since she was injured, we could never get them to start doing his laundry despite repeated attempts (ironically, some of his clothes started disappearing and when we complained, it was discovered they were mistakenly taken to the laundry). Eventually, my sister just resigned herself to doing his laundry herself. And these are just some of the examples. We started complaining about this to some of the people in charge. For example, I spoke to the supervising nurse, Louisa. She was completely unsympathetic and even responded in a somewhat hostile and passive aggressive way. At one point, she suggested that this facility may not be the right fit for us and that we may want to explore other options. This was an insult, as my parents made a huge effort to move into Fountain View 10 years ago with the expectation that when this time came, they would be well taken care of. Being that I wasn't getting anywhere with Louisa, I asked for a meeting with her superiors. And while the meeting went fairly well, and everyone seemed understanding and sympathetic to our complaints, nothing really changed. They, however mysteriously, were able to produce his missing clothes at the meeting. All that said, we are tremendously disappointed in the quality of care at the Goldenberg-Ziman Special Care Center that is on the campus of Eisenberg Village in Reseda.
