In this plaza, there is quite a bit of parking in the side and we were quickly seated during a long weekend afternoon. The locatoon has been renovated so the seats were comfy and spacious. For a limited seasonal time, they had a bubble tea assam ice cream menu so we decided to try the brown sugar pearl ice cream on a belgian waffle and waffle cone. The ice cream clearly has tea leaves in it and because of the brown sugar syrup, it does lean sweeter than their other ice creams. However when paired with the salted cheese foam, it balances it out. Their waffles and waffle cone were freshly made to order. The boba poured over with the brown sugar had more of a chewy jelly texture than the usual tapioca found in drinks which helped make the dessert feel less heavy. First time at this demetres and I was pleasantly surprised!! One of the OG spots and I've heard so many good things, so I had to come and sample the goods!! I felt particularly indulgent today so I opted for the Brownie points dessert. A caramel brownie cheesecake with a brownie chocolate ice cream. And oh my gosh, it was indulgence all over my plate. Super rich, super flavourful, and SO SWEET. I was buzzing with the sugar rush. The ice cream is always amazing here, and the cheesecake was SO creamy. I normally would go to the downtown Markham location since it is the nicely renovated one, buy decided to try this Richmond location on a Friday evening. I was pleased to see that there were quite a lot of patrons here! Ordered the Splitsonia Belgian waffle which includes strawberry slices, strawberry coulis sauce,and a scoop of honey vanilla ice cream. I paid an extra $3.50 for banana slices. The ice cream itself was delicious and highly recommend it. The strawberries were super sour, and was a mix of fresh and frozen strawberries. The coulis was as you'd expect. The waffle was not crispy. This would be solved if they let the waffle to cool after cooking as this helps to harden the waffle a bit, before adding any toppings. The Belgian hot chocolate arrived warm rather than hot. So much so that the toasted marshmallow on it didnt melt at all. This $8 drink didn't feel premium as one would expect from a Belgian hot chocolate, and I wouldn't recommend this. Service was rather friendly and fast. Then there was a group of people that entered the establishment, while they were waiting to get seated this group decided to make disgusting faces on us while one lady was tapping her watch, then they decided to directly ask the host when family was going to leave loud enough to be heard... Aunt that was with family got upset at this group and said they weren't leaving cause obviously nobody is finished. When they were getting seated and walking past the table they heard so the woman continued make faces and hurling insults and people that were in her group started flipping family off and saying fck off while saying other profanity while telling aunt to calm down as if they weren't the one singling family out, making faces, tapping their watching, hurling insults and flipping people off in front of little children like they were entitled to the seats and they deserved it more.. this group decided to single family out and I believe it was racially motivated because they weren't harassing any of the other patrons for their seats. I'm extremely disappointed that the hostess didn't say anything allowed this horrible behavior to continue and allowed family to get harassed and still seated and served them. 0/10 will never support this business which sucks because they have good desserts. read more

Admittedly, this isn't the most beautiful location Demetres has, the parking lot is rather small, and Yonge Street can be a little hectic; however, I appreciate this location a lot for the friendly service and home-y feel! Plus, you get what you would get at other locations as well - the same huge portion and beautiful presentation! I always look over at other tables and see people ordering an entire dessert to themselves and I never understand how they do it! I typically share my crepes with one other person, and that alone is more than enough for me (and it comes up to ~$13.50 plus tax for a crepe decked out with syrups, ice cream and toppings). I appreciate that Demetres always finds different artists to design their menus. It's refreshing and very unique! We used to be regulars at Demetre café in many of its locations, but Alot of them has been shutting down within the past year and this location is one of the very few that are still there However, it seems like it has been sold to franchisees or whatever the case is, because the menu is different, the atmosphere is different, the prices, quality and service is all at rock bottom level Starting with the menu, where at lost its pretty and cool design, pictures and feeling, it is now just a boring list of items that you can find at any mediocre café with nothing special On top of this, they were out of many of the basic items such as chocolate cake, white chocolate cake, raspberry sauce, etc. The taste was absolutely terrible, this Cafe used to have delicious top notch desserts, now it really is very similar to a 5 pound pack that you can buy at your local grocery store As for service, again it's nothing different from the above, the servers are rude, we wear three people and wanted to sit at a booth was the place 95% empty, and Sherif used to sit us at the six people table because it is for six people, keeping in mind that there are at least five or six versus like that and they are all empty Finally, Frases have at least doubled or so, We used to get two items and two coffees an average of about $17-$19 bill with the tap, this time our bill was $30 plus for two desserts only with no drinks,it is a price I would be happy to pay for something worth that, but certainly not press What a tragedy ending for this great name that it was once! read more

The best Demetres by far. This location smokes the Woodbridge one and the one on east beaver creek. I've had the exact same dessert "the fork awakens" at all three locations. This is the only location where the waffle was fresh and by fresh I mean hot and served right away when it's done. The cream wasn't melting at all. The Woodbridge location and east beaver creek all had cold waffles as if they made them ahead of time to beat the rush. I will only go to this Demetres from now on and never go to the other ones. When I am hankering for a sinful late night dessert Demetre's is always near the top of my list because they will always have something to satisfy my ENORMOUS sweet tooth. I have been to this location a few times and have always had a pleasant experience. On my most recent visit a friend and I came here after dinner to indulge in some dessert. The place was barely half full since it was a weekday evening, I have been here on weekends and they do get pretty busy. My friend and I decided to share a waffle and the task of choosing the waffle was left up to me, I decided to venture away from my first love (their nutella ice cream) and go for the "life sentence" waffle. This waffle came with peanut butter ice cream, chocolate brownie pieces, bananas and chocolate sauce. No need to adjust your computer screen, you read the succession of ingredients correctly. I suppose they call it the "life sentence" because if you ever finish one on your own it will take a lifetime of exercise to burn it off. Our waffle took a while to be made but was definitely worth the wait. OMFG the peanut butter ice cream was ridiculous, not only did it have an intense peanut butter flavour but also had whole peanuts and chocolate chunks in it, it was over the top delicious. The brownie pieces were quite decadent (but a little heavy) and bananas are always a great compliment to peanut butter. The waffle came in a cute flower shape; it was crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. This was probably the most well put together waffle I have had at any Demetre's, the single scoop of ice cream was ginormous and looked like 3 scoops had morphed into 1 mega scoop, the other toppings were piled on generously which made this ideal for sharing and more than justified the $13 price tag. The service here has always been good and in my experience they are willing to accommodate any special requests. As many have noted the décor at this particular location is quite dated, they are also lacking a patio which the Markham location has. Here's what we saw; kids running back and forth on complete sugar highs, teeny boppers taking selfies with their alpha female, elderly couples on a nice Friday date, post fine dining dinner groups looking to fill their sweet tooth, exhausted parents, overly enthused servers. Don't get me wrong, the above isn't necessarily a bad thing, just not what I expected at all. Aside from their cartoon-like menu, I expected a mix between the Second Cup ambiance and a gaze-through-the-window-at-the-chefs crepery. Do not be fooled. Caffe Demetre is more so a Chuck E Cheese dessert place for kids, at least during the time we went. I saw they stay open until 1:30am so maybe their customers die down and 'mature' (ugh, that word...) past 11pm. I ordered a latte and Cappuccino Royale on a crepe while my date had the banana milkshake. It totally threw me off that the crepe and milkshake arrived before the latte but that's okay cause it all went into my belly in the end. Flavours were alright, a bit too much caramel for my likings but hey, I should have asked for less anyhow. The server explained that the cappuccino ice cream has fresh made espresso folded in - we thought that was the coolest! The crepe was light and I didn't feel too bogged down afterwards. It came to $29 without tip and I was a bit surprised to see I was charged for a large latte ($5) instead of a small ($3). I definitely received a large latte but didn't realize it until the bill came. I just assumed the default would be small... but I'm learning to never assume. All in all, I'd return much later than 10pm and I'll order something with less caramel. NOTE: it took a lengthy amount of time to get our bill as it was jammed. They can accommodate but it is a huge inconvenience especially if the place is full or busy. Since they don't just have tables for eight people or greater. Atmosphere 2.5/5 Even after the renovations, I didn't feel much of a change. It just painting a new colour and the art on their walls. There wasn't really significant effort in their renovations. The seating arrangements remained the same, which I felt they could have done a lot better. Similarly they didn't really fix the back kitchen either. They basically did the least amount of work to indicate their update. In honestly, not much of a difference than before. Service 3/5 Average service but I feel they are understaffed. They only have two waitstaff working that night when the room was at 90% to 95% capacity and two kitchen staff. Definitely tight service. Food 3.5/5 There were three of us, all adults. After a full meal we didn't want to order too much so we ordered a Belgian waffle - blush and a drink called "stormy weather". If you are a coffee person that is the drink for you. The blush Belgian waffle is mainly consists of strawberries drizzled with white chocolate, strawberry ice cream on top of the waffle and two whipped cream on the side. I really like their strawberry ice cream, it isn't very pink like other places or store bought. And it has bits of the strawberries too. The drizzle of white chocolate was a great touch since the solidified on top of the ice cream. The presentation for the waffle was good. It tasted good as well. However when I looked over at the table next to us. It was quite disappointing. Presentation isn't consistent. They ordered cake with ice cream. Although we didn't order it, it just didn't looked appealing. It was basically a slab of ice cream covering the entire slice of red velvet cake. And I noticed that over the years the cake layers have changed. It used to have two layers of cream cheese like 1cm thick. Now it is like 0.5 cm and only one layer. Moreover, they have updated their menu since the last time I came. It has reduced significantly. But their portion size is quite large compared to other places. Overall, price versus value - it was still quite pricy back then. They have increased like $2 for most of the food items on their menu from before. So you are paying roughly $17 before tax and tip if you are ordering for any of their waffles. And it is still pricy now. With Snow Time, Cups Bingsu, or Soul Cafe, or Sugar Marmalade 15 to 20 minutes distance of each other, they have much cheaper options and often no need of sharing. But if you strictly want your big portions and western desserts than this place is for you. If you decide to order a drink and still want dessert, I highly advised to share your cake or crepe or waffle with another person. Because the drinks are sweet and the other foods are sweet as well, it is quite overwhelming to finish all those sweets.
