I scheduled fillings specifically around insurance coverage, but when I arrived I was booked for a completely different procedure that my dentist had never explained to me. I then received appointment reminders for visits I never scheduled, and when I called they admitted it was a mistake. I was also told I owed a balance that I had already paid in full (my insurance reimburses me after the fact), and the office could not clearly explain why the charge appeared or why they told me I had already paid. I was then told that they forgot to submit my claim to my insurance. My hygienists were great, but I don't recommend this office if you have anxiety or don't have time to constantly correct scheduling/billing issues yourself.

From the receptionist/ scheduler Karen, to the hygienist Alex, and of course the dentist, Dr. Chiou. Every point of contact I made has blow me away with their friendliness, professionalism and knowledge. We moved to Newton right before the pandemic and we have been looking for a dental practice for our family to call home. I came here after having not the best experience in another practice (which took all the courage in me to get to), I thought I'd give this highly rated practice a shot and get a second opinion. I am so glad I did. Dr. Chiou picked up the phone and spoke to me PRIOR to my appointment and gave me an overview of what dental work might be needed after looking at my X-rays. After learning about my absolute fear of Novocain, he reassured me that everything was going to be ok. The hygienist Alex was actually the one who gave me the Novocain, and performed my deep cleaning and she is amazing- skilled, patient and gentle. Dr Guy worked on my mouth from March until June and I have never in my life experienced such horrible care in my entire life. In 5 months he pulled three teeth in the back of my mouth he put two implants and and took them out. When I first went into his office he asked me to change my insurance to tops and he could do everything. That was not true. After 5 months of care I finally left because the whole time he worked on my mouth it was infected. He stuck a novocaine needle directly into my abscess causing me to scream very loudly. When he stuck the needle into my abscess the infection popped out of my mouth into the air like busting a pimple. The more I screamed the harder he pushed the needle into my gum. There are so many other things that I could tell you but I think that is enough for now. I was so afraid to go to a dentist after him that it is January 2024 and I have had at least four infections after leaving his office. He he made my dentures and would not give them to me instead he sent me the mold that they take of your mouth before they make the dentures. He sent me that mold instead of my dentures as if I'm an idiot. He charged my insurance up because I got the paperwork of all of my visits and he charged my insurance for so many procedures that he never even did. I am currently contacting legal services because of his neglect. Usually when you go into a dentist office they will talk to you at least say hello and tell you what they're going to do. He never said hello to me he never spoke to me unless it had something to do with my insurance. He caused me great pain and the law is going to take care of this.

I had a bad experience with a root canal with a previous dentist, so they make me nervous. I had a root canal with Dr. Lewis, and had the pain pills ready for when the novocaine wore off. Guess what? I didn't even need an aspirin. This was the most gentle, painless root canal possible. You don't feel rushed - he takes the time he needs to schedule a procedure. He takes pride in his work.

The whole staff is very friendly and made me feel comfortable. They did all the necessary x-rays and explained what they were doing every step of the way. Then weird things started happening. I got billed for work that wasn't performed, they tried to charge me for x-rays clearly covered by my insurance, doubled-down and said I owed them money when I insisted it was covered, and then claimed "they deal with so many insurance plans they can't keep all of them straight" when I finally pulled up the plan myself and showed them. My parents got hit with "lab fees" that their insurance company said should have never been charged under their contract with the dentist. Lots of other "billing errors" that. Once is a mistake, but something was off basically every visit. Oh! And you get a "billing fee" every time their office screws up, which is fun. If I were a conspiracist, I might say that the office is struggling and they're trying to sneak in extras that patients are unlikely to notice. However, it can also be explained by a few bad hiring choices for office administrators. When I left the practice, I called to get a copy of my x-rays for the new dentist. The office assistant sent a collection of THUMBNAILS of the x-rays. Like, tiny grainy pictures for the new dentist. They got angry and insisted that they couldn't get me any other format, and that the files were just really small when exported and that they had never had an issue with it before. After some heated back and forth, the office assistant described the menu she was seeing in the software, I suggested things she could try to export them, she finally exported the images individually as high-resolution jpgs and sent them to me. Seriously, they hired morons. My family and I have left the practice.

First of all, I wasn't sure whether my insurance would cover the dental expenses, the front desk staff carefully reviewed my insurance and explained the coverage breakdown step by step. I've visited four dental offices in the past year, and no one else has ever done this, all of the other front desk I spoke to brushed off these questions and only tried to persuade me into buying more of their services. Second, my hygienist, Samantha, genuinely cares about her patients. She did my cleaning in a super gentle way, and she kept asking me to let her know immediately if I felt any discomfort during the process. Last but not least, Dr. Liu examined my teeth, noticed some bleeding, and suggested a partial deep cleaning only if necessary. This was by far the fairest advice I've received. Be careful of billing fraud!…read more I visited Beacon Family Dental a month ago for re-cement of my implant. Because they were not sure whether insurance would cover re-cement, they charged me $236 onsite for the full price of re-cement and promised would refund me if the insurance does cover it. A week later I received statement from my insurance showing they did cover most of the re-cement. I waited for another month for the refund but didn't receive any, so I reached out to the dental office. I am attaching their response below. The last message sounded very unprofessional and rude to me. To justify no-refund, they then resubmitted an additional claim for implant maintenance and charged $315. However, they never mentioned this service to me before, not to mention "told you insurance won't cover it". They charged me upfront $236 which was the exact full amount they submitted for re-cement but nothing else. I never requested for or was aware of the "implant maintenance service". It sounded like a makeup thing they came up later to deny the refund. Very disappointed at the staff's dishonesty.

My whole family has been regular patients in this place. Recently, we received a very rude reminder about dental cleaning and a threatening message that if we don't schedule our last cleaning for the fiscal year, our account will be deactivated! What is that supposed to mean? I don't understand what kind of business this place is running if they think these kind of messages are going to bring more clients?! Quite the opposite! It is unheard of hygiene appointments to be required so patients can keep their account active! Usually, dental facilities and private offices send friendly reminders for the patients to take advantage of a covered by insurance dental cleaning since there are only 2 per year. The manager needs to really apologize to all patients who received this kind of unpleasant email or text message as this is really unprofessional and totally unacceptable! After all, there are at least 30 other dental offices in the areas near by Newton Corner, Watertown, Brighton and Waltham. This kind of treatment of the patients would completely drive them away!
