This place is highly over rated. The staff are rude. A friend and I walked over to the place next door for lunch and planned on getting a cookie on our way back to the office. The lady was so rude- I had a left over container in my hands and she said, you have to leave your food outside. I understand all this allergy stuff- but why should I have to leave a container outside- where the homeless guy could walk off with it for just a cookie! This bakery is super close to my office and everyone is not only super friendly but helpful . The options available for me to choose from truly were a relief and it felt nice not to have to ask if things were Gluten Free since everything is. Dempsey Bakery in LR Arkansas is quite honestly spectacular! If you have to eat gluten free, or even if you don't, this place really is where you want to go, especially for their bread products. I have been to GF bakeries in Atlanta, NYC, Austin, Dallas, Chigaco and Las Vegas, and I have to rank this bakery at the very top. Not just top percentage - the top one of all! My son, who does not have to eat GF, thinks their Everyone's bread makes the best French toast in the world! (I see there is a bad review from someone who had to leave outside food outside, but those of us who have reactions understand that's not rude, that's something to be grateful for. These people have never been rude to anyone that I have seen, in fact they are amazingly gracious.) I love this place. Every time we get to Little Rock, I buy a ton of food to take home, mostly pasties. I love the little cheese crackers, too, and they have wonderful cheesecakes. I love the brownies everything's great. I wish I lived here so I could eat there more. They're always very helpful, too. Recently we went there with my sister-in-law, who has more allergies than I do. She was very impressed with the place and how they knew all of the ingredients. She was happy to find cookies etc. that she could eat because she's allergic to chocolate, nuts, soy, eggs, citrus, coconut and a lot more. They have great frozen stuff, too. Super friendly staff! Read all of the wonderful reviews on here before calling. I was so excited! However, when I arrived to pick up a cake they notified me it was made without dairy. (Now I confirmed I had no allergy to dairy at the time of requesting the cake) Easy confusion, I wasn't upset. The presentation was beautiful, and I assumed "dairy free" wouldn't alter the taste. I then continued to purchase the $90 cake. At the event that night I unfortunately discovered a very odd texture to the cake. No moisture. Not rly much flavor. The icing was nice! This was by far the best gluten free bakery I have ever been to. My daughter has a gluten allergy and I have been everywhere searching for a place like this. It was so wonderful for her to be able to walk in and choose whatever she wanted without having to check each item to make sure it didn't contain gluten. We tried almost every item in the bakery and they were surprisingly moist and tasted great! If you haven't tried this place you definitely should! Little rock you have a gem of a bakery be proud of it! I would also like to compliment the owner now because she absolutely deserves it. She was so friendly and helpful. She brings so much passion and experience to her work and it absolutely shows. As a gluten free girl I love this bakery. In reading the previous review from Stan, he apparently hasn't gone there much. They in no way ever claim to be organic. Healthy yes! Gluten free flours are more healthy than regular wheat flour. They have a great supply of breads, cakes and other sweets. If you are gluten free and are craving something forbidden to you like bread or a chocolate cupcake, this is the place. Want a quick lunch? This is the place. I personally love the Ruben or the Caprese sandwich's.Everyday they have sandwich's and soups. The chocolate cupcakes are moist and tender. Just bought one for a non GF friend and she was surprised. She expected it to be gummy. It's a bit more pricey than a fast food joint but as someone who bakes at home, the ingredients are more expensive than plain wheat flour. It is well worth it. If you are not GF try it out. The food is delicious. And yes they are closed on Mondays, everyone needs a day off. Try the Hot Milk Cake...its the best thing EVER!! read more

Went to Dempsey Bakery in April along with some coworkers. We were in Little Rock for a convention. Made the long walk to Dempsey Bakery on a warm and humid day, and the food we had was well worth it. I am not gluten free (one of my coworkers is) but the sandwich I had was just great. The taste and texture of the bread would rival any expensive artisan wheat bread. I usually eat only half the bread on my sandwich, but I ate every bit of the bread on the sandwich at Dempsey's Bakery! couldn't resist! The soup was good, too. We tried all of the dessert samples they displayed, and all were moist, flavorful, and every bit as good as a top quality gluten containing dessert. We all bought cookies to go, although three of the four of us visiting were not gluten free. I also loved the crisp, clean, fresh decor. Little Rock, you have a winner in Dempsey's. While visiting Little rock I discover a Dempsey - a real gem. They have an amazing variety with a wonderful store front tooo (very good selection). I felt like a kid in candy store... so many samples to try and so many yummy options. It was hard to chose so I chose items I don't see in the San Francisco Bay Area very often plus I needed to buy lunch and food for the plane ride home. Dempsey Bakery has done an amazing job with their breads/cakes. All of the bred items I sampled were amazing. I could tell they have done a lot of research to prefect their cakes and breads. Bread was the best I'm had in a long time. I ordered two sandwiches to go for my journey back to San Francisco. The bread tasted yummy... It had a subtle bread flavor and stayed together while I ate my sandwiches (1 for lunch and 1 for dinner). The bread had a good texture and crust was crispy (i like the crust). Eggplant Sandwich: So far my fav sandwich. Eggplant was tasty with good flavor and vegetables were fresh and yummy. GF bread did not fall apart and held the sandwich while I ate it. Muffaletta: Good quality meats. Olive spread was very good (if you love Olives you will love this). Pickle: Both sandwiches came with an amazing pickle - it tasted like it was home made (or not store bought). It had very good flavors and hint of vinegar. Salt Pepper & BBQ Chips: I'm not a chips person however I would order these in heart beat. These chips were a little thicker and were seasoned nicely. I think they made them or locally made. They were very fresh. Hot Milk Bread: OMG it taste just like a donut. It tasted between what I remember to be an old fashion donut and glazed donut. Pumpkin Bread: What a treat. I love pumpkin bread and this hit the spot. I bought two loafs. Lemon Blueberry Bread: I've always been a HUGE fan of lemon cakes/cookies. I was worried the blueberries this would be too sweet but it wasn't. It had a nice balance of lemon flavor mixed with Blueberries. Lemon taste was not too sour, tart or sweet. This is a wonderful place to go if you have serious allergies. Everything is clearly labeled and very tasty. They had samples of many items and gave us samples of the larger loaves when we asked about them. We went for breakfast pastries which were very good if a little on the sweet side and also took home a very beautiful milk cake and half a loaf of bread. It's a little expensive but totally worth not having to worry about cross contamination. read more

I love going here. Sadly, as with all gf items, it is pricy. However, seeing as they are locally run and not some massive chain, I accept that they can't afford to be dirt cheap. No, for the most part it is not healthy (it's a bakery not a health food store, I have never seen a healthy cupcake), but they do provide local coffee in their store (pretty cool) and sell their bread to local restaurants and shops (making my eating out options much wider, which is awesome). If you aren't stuck being Gluten-Free, you probably have more room to be skeptical and complain about additives. As someone forced to be Gluten-Free, I sure as heck don't. Dempsey Bakery is great! I love their variety. I live in Washington, DC and most of the gluten free places here only focus on sweets. It's great that Depmsey has so many options. I've loved everything I've had from there. Right now I'm really enjoying their cracker bread. I was so excited to see that you can order it on Amazon! I ordered sandwiches to go here twice and requested them without garlic aioli. Both times the sandwiches were slathered in the stuff. I have IBS issues and cannot eat garlic or onions. Their gluten free "everyone's bread" too sweet. They should slice it thinner and do away with the sugary glaze. It's like eating cake.
