I used Dempsey Energy about six years ago when we bought our home to evaluate our furnace. They were sent by American Home Shield. The furnace did need to be replaced, and they did great work. We paid about $3K for necessary modifications, which we expected since the furnace was already in rough condition. More recently, I had a leak in my basement from a burst pipe. I contacted Dempsey Energy and left a message requesting service for the next day. When I called the following morning, they scheduled a technician to arrive between 12-5. Mike came that afternoon and was very pleasant. He explained that our pipes should be replaced and showed me the difference between the old and new materials. He emailed an estimate for the work, and there was no pressure to proceed. I appreciate their honesty and professionalism. Dempsey Energy of North Attleboro practices unfair and deceptive trade practices. I strongly believe that Dempsey Energy has overcharged for work that was done and has charged for work that was not done at my home in East Falmouth, MA. To summarize my complaint: Dempsey came to my house to inspect and provide an estimate for the work to repair or replace a furnace, I was presented with his phone that had "$7,995" on it which he told me represented the "modifications necessary to fit the new furnace into the existing structure and ductwork". He went on to explain that these "modifications" would not be covered by American Home Shield". I told him I needed to think about this and would get back to Dempsey. A few days later I gave Dempsey the go ahead to do the work and asked for an itemized estimate to show how the $7,995 was calculated. I received a list of the scope of work, but no costs associated with each line item on the estimate (see attached file "Furnace"). Once the work was completed I again asked for an itemized estimate to show how the $7,995 was calculated and received a list of work, but no itemized breakdown of the costs charged. 1. Dempsey charged me $1,125 to connect a power cord to the new furnace (cord removed from the old furnace and connected to the new furnace). Dempsey confirmed the scope of the work that was done. This is not a modification, but a normal scope of a furnace installation. 2. Dempsey charged me $850 to connect an existing thermostat wire to the new furnace. Dempsey confirmed the scope of the work that was done. This is not a modification, but a normal scope of a furnace installation. 3. Dempsey charged me $250 to "provide proper support of the furnace with either a furnace stand or furnace blocks with anti-vibration pads". Was the only option from American Home Shield. Paid for a tune up through AHS, Dempsey dispatched a technician. Was told a "tune up" was only a visual inspection the furnace worked. AHS document clearly states burner cleaning and electrical connection work is to be done. AHS never followed up and took three calls before they told me Dempsey oil reported there was a repair needed. The technician never told me this and I was there the whole time with him. Basically paid $100/ burner for someone to look that the flame turned on. read more

These guys are absolute crooks! They were assigned to us by AHS home warranty. They didn't repair anything and told AHS that we needed a complete replacement and then invoiced us $9000 for "modifications" which they know won't be covered by AHS. Basically we were left high n dry and now AHS won't cover the repairs because these guys were greedy. Further, for $9000 system, they would install a "reconditioned" system, not a new one and with only a 30 day warranty for the work and system. Worst Company I have ever had the displeasure of working with! I contracted Dempsey Energy about a year ago to service my rental property in Swansea. I paid them $800 to do a Spring and Fall Furnace and AC check which at the time I felt was overpriced but as a type A home owner I wanted to make sure my HVAC System was taken care of having replaced both furnaces and A/C units in 2016. On Tuesday July 2nd my Tennant called me with a fault in the upstairs A/C unit. I called Dempsey Energy and explained the situation and they informed me they could not get a Tech over there until 3 days later. I realize that this was 4th of July week and there was a heat wave in progress so I accepted the date for earliest appointment available and was charged a $99 dispatch fee which would be put towards the balance if work was to be completed. I realized shortly after that I had the Spring A/C check that I had still not scheduled yet and figured I may as well just call (D.E.) back and have them conduct that service while they were there and if they could possibly waive the $99 dispatch fee since I had already paid the $800 for the annual service. I called the office the next day and spoke with the dispatch girl and asked her about conducting the annual A/C service as well as waiving the dispatch fee but she reluctantly said that they COULD do the annual check up but wouldn't be able to waive the dispatch fee since I already called it in as a service call. I was a bit angered because I paid in advance and they didn't seem to want to work with me but wait it gets much worse. The Tech arrived at 4:10pm on Friday as my Tennant called me as she normally does when I have any workers scheduled and said the was there and He was NOT INFORMED about the A/C annual service to be completed but after verifying with (D.E. Dispatch) he said he would do it. I got a call back at 5pm from my Tennant who said he was all done and the A/C was working. I asked her if he actually serviced both A/C units and she said yes which was quite amazing to me considering it was a 50 minute visit. I asked her what was the error code for and what did he find? She said he added freon and checked both A/C units. I asked if he had left a work conducted form and she said NO, he wanted to get on his way as this was 5pm on Friday July 4th weekend! So I have NO bill, or ANY paperwork so I called Dempsey Energy but they were closed at 4:40. I just assumed they did the annual service and we were all good. NOT! The following Monday I called (D.E.) and asked if I could speak to an office Mngr. and find out what did this Tech actually do over there in 50m minutes? She said he added 1-3lbs 0f refrigerant and I had been charged $791.84 for this!!! I was IRRATE! First of all I NEVER APPROVED THIS WORK TO BE COMPLETED!! They Charged my card that I used when booking my annual service almost a year ago without EVER ASKING ME!! Second of all I know that if Freon was leaking then I have a leak in they system and why would I ever pay these scammers almost $800 to fill the system when its only going to leak right back out?? I told the Office Manager girl I wanted the system FIXED RIGHT and that I would NOT be paying another $800 to replenish the freon again because this is not fixing the problem just a bandaid at best and a quick $800 bucks for Dempsey Energy!! I asked that they treat me fairly and reschedule a visit to fix the actual problem and discuss a fair payment. The conversation ended with cooler heads and I was promised a call back from the Tech Mngr which was now over a week ago! I know this review was a bit winded but honestly after spending the initial $800 for the annual chec-ups and then charging my card on file WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION for an EXORBITANT $791.84 for 2-3lbs of R-410A Refrigerant which by the way according to Google should only cost $40-$75 per pound NOT $263 PER POUND!!!!!! I installed my Air Conditioner last year and turned it on this year. I got error Code CH 35. I looked it up, and it told me it needed to be charged. Question: Is that possible? The system is one year old. They come out quickly after a diagnosis of the problem. Then I was told the broken part would be replaced fee, but I had to cover the repair cost of $2,000.00 - Why, after paying all that money to install it 12 months ago, do I have a warranty? I had a terrible experience with Dempsey Energy. This company is extremely dishonest, and I strongly advise against doing business with them. We called them to check our HVAC system because it wasn't cooling properly. They informed us that the booking fee was $99 to come out to the house and evaulate the problem, which would then be applied to the total cost of the repair. A technician came and spent nearly two hours assessing the issue. He concluded that the coolant pressure needed to be tested and refilled, and provided an estimate of almost $4,000. I asked for some time to think about it and whether I wanted to proceed with the $4000 repair, so the technician left but then they hit us with a $350 charge. A charge which I was not notified about and did not authorize. When I called the manager to dispute this, they claimed that any time beyond 15 minutes incurs additional charges--something they never disclosed when I originally booked the appointment. Now I understand why the technician seemed so relaxed and took his time. We tried to get this unfair charge reimbursed, and complained about the lack of transparency, but our efforts were unsuccessful. ***UPDATE*** (2/23/23): Contacted ALL STATE PLUMBING in North Attleboro, MA. They performed the job in 30 minutes for $325.00. Still not ideal, but WAY more inexpensive than DEMPSEY. NEVER get a plumber that quotes by the "JOB", always get one that quotes by the hourly rate. They will almost always be cheaper, at least for the smaller jobs. REMEMBER...ALWAYS GET A WRITTEN OR EMAIL QUOTE FIRST!!! Had a Granite company come to the house to re-attach the sink as the original mounts had loosened. They needed to disconnect the plumbing from the left side of the sink and remove the garbage disposal. They could not re-connect as they are not fully licensed for that. Now, I told you that story to tell you this story... I called Dempsey Energy today (2/22/23) to have them reconnect the plumbing on the left side of the sink (with new strainer) and to re-connect the Garbage disposal. No wire running, no drilling, no new piping. Had all the parts except for the strainer on the left side of the sink. Already paid the $59.00 Dispatch fee. The price I was quoted for a 1-1.5hr job was... wait for it... $656.00!!!...Plumber told me that I was getting a discount because a NEW garbage disposal install would be more expensive!!! Luckily, I asked for a quote before the work began...needless to say...the answer was a resounding NO... I believe that the model Dempsey Energy uses is similar to an Auto Repair Center. They either have a self-defined price or look up a specific project in the "Book" and that is the rate they charge (pre-defined hours/Project). If they finish early, you DON'T get the refund. They DO NOT charge jobs by a straight Labor rate. If they did, their hourly labor rate would be $437/Hour for my 1.5Hr job!!!! What horrible customer service. We ordered oil through their other name Law Energy. Ordered online on a Sunday where they say that they deliver in our area T-F. Friday comes still no oil. Contacted them. No response. Reached them on Monday. The person who schedules isn't available but will call right back. 4 hours later. I call again. No info. Called an hour later. They said I was on schedule for tonight or tomorrow. I said to please make it for tonight as we are on fumes. Also, if we run out, we'll need them to prime the system. Needless to say, no delivery. Finally ran out. Next morning, delivery comes at 8 am. They deliver only 200 gallons instead of a fill. Driver runs off without ever talking to me. We had to prime the system and it ran fine for an hour. I came home to a smoke-filled basement and smelly house. Called their emergency line. Was hung up on 7 times due to phone problems. Finally could leave a message. I had a friend who used to be a tech come by and he thought it was from being run dry. He didn't have the tools to handle a full cleaning with him. Finally someone called back from Dempsey. Scheduled a cleaning from 10-12 for which they wanted to charge 288. Acquiescing to need for heat and hot water for my family, I scheduled it. Next morning, 6:22 AM, I get a call saying they were returning my call about a delivery. I told her again what happened and she saw that I was scheduled. I said that I thought a discount on service would be appropriate if the problem was caused by their lack of delivery and asked if she was the one who could do something about that. She told me that Stephanie in service would call me in the afternoon after the service to talk with me about it. 9:59 am, I get a call from Chris who tells me he is cancelling my service at 10 as 'they don't feel comfortable'. He wanted me to know that nothing was their fault and they didn't care if I had heat or hot water. I was told it was my fault for not ordering when the tank was 1/4 full and delivering oil 9 days later is normal. Was it bad oil, something from bottom of tank, clogged nozzle? I don't know. All I can say is that before delivery, all was good. After delivery, big problems and a company that put me into multiple bad situations willfully. I was told $59 to schedule the appointment. Then I received a warning email stating that if I cancel the appointment with less than 24 hours notice I would be charge $99. I was also WARNED that I better be at the condo (investment property) within 30 minutes of receiving NOTICE that the plumber was dispatched. But that he could be there up to an hour after the notice. So, I rushed there 30 minutes after receiving the notice and waited an HOUR before I called. Nicole told me that Garrett Holmes Jr was in West Bridgewater, which is still at least 30 minutes from Quincy. I stated that I was upset about that because I was already waiting, per her WARNING, for an hour. She started getting really RUDE and stated that she is "not a traffic man" but that I "should have KNOWN" that it would take a long time for him to get there. She was YELLING and trying to get me angry. After the tech finished snaking a bathroom pipe for $350 (THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS for 15 minutes work), I specifically told the tech to NOT charge my credit card on file because this is another person's property and I was just scheduling the work. Horrible experience that I am now still dealing with months later. During a time that HVACs were very hard to contract during the summer, the company doing the work in my home found Dempsey available as they needed an HVAC to uninstall and reinstall my hot water heater and furnace so they could repair water damage in my utility closet from a leak from my hot water heater. The person who came to asses, the person who came to do hot water heater, and the people that came for furnace were all different. Including a different person who would uninstall the water heater for example and then a different one to reinstall it. That's not the worst of it though! After my furnace was reinstalled, we quickly learned it was done incorrectly. Because it was leaking in my closet when we had the AC on! So luckily the lovely company doing the rest of the work came to mitigate MORE water damage after they just repaired old water damage. Another technician from Dempsey came to assess the mistake with the furnace and he knew right away what they did wrong, including not installing a whole part that was just sitting on my patio. I demanded that this technician be the one who came to fix it and they still tried to send the other two guys who messed it up. Flash forward to this snowy cold evening in October where I'm turning on my heat for the first time... guess what? Not working!!!! Also, my hot water has never been the same in terms of temperature regulation but honestly this company was such a pain to deal with and messed up so many things that I don't even want to bother dealing with them ever again. I have a warranty contract with American Home Shield to cover my furnace. I called the warranty company who indicated Dempsey Oil would be reaching out to me which they did in a timely manner, scheduled appt. and technician arrived on time to diagnose issue and informed me the furnace would need replacing. I still had heat available to me. Everything went down hill from here. Dempsey Oil contacted me with an estimate to install the new furnace from the Warranty company and indicated it would cost $ 4995.00 for modifications to install the new furnace even though I had electrical, ductwork in place and gas lines currently for my furnace. After speaking with my warranty company for possible cash option for the new furnace I determined it was cost effective to go with Dempsey since Dempsey Oil is only contractor American Home Shield would allow me to use. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!! Once I contacted Dempsey concerning the high estimate they indicated all was necessary to install properly. We agreed on the price quoted and scheduled a date. When I inquired if we can postpone until the weather was warmer due to the fact I obtained other quotes and all heating companies indicated it would take 1 1/2 - 2 days of no heat, Dempsey PROMISED me it would only take 1 day to install. Will get there early and not leave until i have heat. Informed me technicians would be there between 7-9 am. I waited and at 10:30 first technician showed up. Company never called me to indicate their technicians would be late. When I spoke with the technician directly he stated they always have meeting that morning and did not know why someone scheduled it so early. I went to work and when i arrived home in afternoon still working on furnace, no heat when they left at 7:00 pm. Stated bad switch on new furnace, did not have another switch on truck and it was too late to get another. Asked what am i supposed to do now with no heat, wife and large dog. OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. Did tell me will be back first thing in the morning. My wife and i decided tough it out with my large dog since it was difficult to find a hotel to accomodate us all. Technician showed up next day at 12:30 and worked on furnace. I received a call from Dempsey home office stating technician tried to call me and that the furnace Still not working properly, again no heat. OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE WHAT SO EVER TO HELP!!!!! Again stayed in cold house with my wife and large dog. Third day their technicians showed up early and worked on new furnace and by the afternoon i had heat. I followed up with the company and inquired if they would offer me any compensation for ALL the inconveniences i encountered since they promised me the repair in 1 day and it took 3. Response was NO. So in recapping PROMISED ME TO REPLACE THE FURNACE IN 1 DAY TOOK 3 DAYS WITH NO HEAT. OFFERED ME NO ASSISTANCE TO ACCOMODATE ME WHEN I HAD NO HEAT. I will be contacting American home Shield that i probably will not be renewing my contract with them since Dempsey Oil is their only contracted repair company. Dempsey was assigned by AHS to replace our furnace. They gave us a quote saying that a bunch of "modifications" were needed that were not covered by AHS. We would be charged almost $3000 for this covered service. Meanwhile, we had another contractor look at it and say that the replacement could easily be done with no modifications necessary. Very shady situation. We also found out that the AHS portion was less than $1000. The work took a long time to schedule and we were without heat for weeks in January. Then after Dempsey was gone, we discovered that the return (exchange) pieces were not even appropriately connected, so the whole thing fell off and was dangling. Very shoddy work. I don't recommend AHS, but I would steer clear of Dempsey too. read more

BEWARE LONG REVIEW! I usually don't do reviews, as I've never had a bad enough experience with a business to bad mouth them. BUT here we go. I ordered the AC/tune-up through American Home Shield for both my AC units, I was assigned Dempsey as the contractor who called promptly and scheduled the appointment for 5/19/22. To be honest I have no idea what an AC Tune-up entails, I just figured I was being pro-active in the management of my systems. Anyways this technician did a tune to both systems in less than 20 minutes (no lie). Anyway, a couple days later, we go to use our A/C for the 1st time this season. One of the units is not cooling off my 1st floor. Minimal air is coming thru the vents. Condenser unit outside seems to be working (fan is moving) Call American Home Shield, they assign the request to Dempsey and a tech (Joshua) came out on 5/24. At the end of the visit, he tells me I need a whole new system including Condenser unit and send me a quote of $4200+. When I read the explanation. I was like "What?" In short, the explanation was that I have a 410A condenser and my AC system is an R22, so the compressor is contaminated because the 2 refrigerants don't mix. That condenser was installed last August via a Contractor that was sent by a different Home Warranty Company (Cinch) that I no longer have. I emailed them and quoted exactly what the Dempsey tech wrote in their quote. They refuted the info that Dempsey said and stated that my system worked all last season with no problem and that the 2 systems worked because a metering device was on the system and all lines were flushed. They also said if there were 2 different refrigerants in the system that it would not have work. (I'm not an HVAC person so I don't know if that is a true statement). Anyway, I called Dempsey back and forwarded the info that the other company provided (the company that installed the outside condenser), I also called American Home Shield and explained the situation and it was decided that Dempsey would send a senior Tech out to re-assess. On 6/2/22 the tech Tim came out and afterward sent a higher quote than the 1st tech of $5200+ stating the same thing as the previous tech. Tim goes into the system and makes comments about the age of some of the parts and states that the parts are not less than a year old. What that has to do with anything is beyond me, but I call AHS again and ask them to send another Contractor from a totally different company, at first, they said they couldn't because I still have an open service request with Dempsey, but I guess when Dempsey sent them the, they had a change of heart and assigned me a different Contractor. Anyways, the new company came out and in less than 25 minutes I have a working air condition. They stated that the amount of pollen in a lot of areas is a big problem for A/C units, especially one that have an updraft. He put his pressure device and stated there is a most likely a blockage due to pollen, then he cleaned whatever he had to clean and clear and now I have a working A/C unit. And I didn't have to pay Dempsey thousands of dollars. Shame on Dempsey. Please do not use this company not even for a regular tune up or maintenance, they either don't know what they are doing, or they are straight up scammers. I am going to report my experience with them to AHS and hopefully AHS will do a better job vetting their contractors. Also, some may be wondering why I didn't call the company that installed the condenser last year, that is because I called AHS who is my Home Warranty Company thinking it was a blower problem not a condenser problem. Also, to be fair, the company that installed the condenser last did offer to come out to access the system, but their 1st available appointment was over a month out which we did in fact schedule just in case the problem didn't get resolved. Literally just got yelled at by whoever answers the phones when you call this company, because I am unhappy that a tech who was supposed to be here between 10-12 will now be here at 4 pm (hopefully?) She threatened to cancel our work order through American Home Shield and said that we would receive a text when the tech is 30 min out "which is more than enough time to do whatever we need to do so that it doesn't disrupt our day." I imagine hers is not a very fulfilling job, but the degree to which she snapped on a customer for expressing a legitimate grievance was EXTREME. Based on our experience with American Home Shield thus far, it tracks that they have contracted with a hack company to save money. If you are not being forced to work with Dempsey Oil by American Home Shield, avoid them at all costs. And if it's not too late for you, avoid American Home Shield as well!! read more

It's been two weeks since I put in an order for 200 gallons of oil from Law Fuel/Dempsey Oil. They never did the delivery so we ran out of a week later oil. My family slept in a cold temperature for three nights without heat. I contacted Law Fuel and they kept saying they would be there the following day to deliver the oil. Finally Saturday I got a call from someone from a blocked number saying they could bring me 10 gallons of oil to get me through the weekend. It's Tuesday and once again I have not received my oil delivery. Customer service is absolutely awful and does not care. read more
