We took our 3 year old son to see Dr.Satterfield last year. I am still upset at this doctor so I have to share my experience. She is by far the rudest, most condescending doctor we have ever met. We moved from Southern California and lost our beloved ophthalmologist. My son has strabismus and we chose Dr.Satterfield from the great reviews below. We were disappointed in her service and attitude. He wears glasses with low prescription that has helped his strabismus, we went in for his annual checkup but she didn't want to dilate his eyes. She wouldn't even try- claiming that he already seemed anxious. When previous ophthalmologist would TALK/PLAY to my son and calm him down. Then we brought up how his eyes were crossing more at certain times and she DEMANDED we provide pictures, totally disregarding our concerns as parents. In the pressured moment I couldn't find any pictures, so she dismissed our concern, basically felt she was calling me liar (why would a mother lie about that?) and walked out. She ended up giving us the same prescription that we had from the year prior (using the measurements from his glasses that they inspected) because she could not give us a proper updated prescription. As a result, my son gradually started taking off his glasses more and more. Never had this problem with previous doctor who took the time and had actual LOVE for her profession and the children, to genuinely give them the proper service. Brought my 21 month old to see Dr. Satterfield last week. Loved her office! It was perfect for my little one. Tons of books and cool magnetic puzzles for her to play with in the waiting area. Her staff is amazing as well! My daughter got a bunch of stickers for her visit! Once we got inside to see the doctor she had more puzzles and toys for my daughter to play with. She was super friendly and my daughter immediately felt comfortable with her. You can tell she really knows what she is doing especially when it comes to our kids eyes. We were recommended to have my daughters tear ducts unclogged. A simple procedure that she does all the time even on newborns! She made me feel really comfortable and showed me a short video on the procedure. We go in on Jan. and will post an undated review. read more

What did I get for Christmas this year? Single vision! And my Santa Claus was Dr. Satterfield. I'd suffered from double vision/crossed eyes for the last several years that was only marginally corrected by glasses. Apparently it would take a prism of about 24 to correct - think coke bottle thick glasses that might weigh about 2 pounds. This year I decided enough was enough (the danger of driving always with one eye closed added to the cosmetic issues finally convinced me.) So I investigated strabismus surgery, talked to my Optometrist and got a referral. Dr. Satterfield specializes in pediatric patients, but deals with adults as well. She was heavily booked, but I got surgery scheduled for early Dec. She is very confident, knowledgeable and friendly, and answers all questions easily. I really felt comfortable putting my eyesight in her hands. The surgery itself was a piece of cake - I had 'twilight sleep' anasthetic so I don't remember a thing. The worst part was inserting the IV. The first few days of recovery were sure a bitch though. This is not 'minimally invasive with little or no after effects' laser surgery, this is 'cut the eye muscles and sew them back in a different place on your eyeball major redness and swelling' surgery. Between the huge gauze patch and Vicodin induced nausea/illness, I surely traumatized my girls on that first day. After the first day or so, the worst part of recovery was the swelling and bad headaches caused by fatigued facial muscles. The complete redness of the normally white part of the eye was actually kind of cool as I've been able to give people the 'evil eye' as never before. I went back today for a three week follow up. The dr. was able to snip the knot from the stitch I could still feel in my eye - an amazing in-office procedure that took about 4 minutes from the first numbing drop to the snip. The difference in my eyesight is incredible. I have 3D vision back and won't have to throw away any more photos because of my crossed eyes. I can look people in the eye straight on. Seriously, its the best Christmas present I've ever gotten!!! I should also mention that I saw several kids in the office through my visits. Dr. Satterfield has a great manner with them. The 3 or 4yr old girl she saw just before me today had a foreign object in her eye that nobody could see (tucked under the top lid.) The Dr. was able to get it out right then and there with minimal fuss. Really, I am amazed and impressed at her skill. read more

I like Dr Satterfield but she wont take my daughter for some unpaid bill of $50 that I never received. I called their office and said never got that bill and I can pay it if they send it to me. But they said, it's their policy. IMO, that policy is not fair at all especially when you didn't get any bill and wanted to pay. Money is more important I guess than treating a patient. read more

My daughter was born with an incredibly noticeable lazy eye. Every optomotrist we saw kept telling us that she would grow out of it. That didn't happen. She is now 11 yrs old with a lazy eye. Finally, we were fed up with being told lies, we went to see Dr. Satterfield. What an Angel!! She told us that my daughter's eye was completely repairable. Boy, what a great thing to hear. After 30 minutes in surgey and 1 hr recovery, we were on our way back home. It took about 2-1/2 weeks for all the redness to go away, but wow! It has been exactly 2 months since then, and what an amazing difference. She is no longer being teased about looking like an alien. She is even more beautiful now. Dr. Satterfield has been my son's doctor since he was 2 years old. She is great and smart when it comes to her specialty. One thing I can tell you about her is that she is very direct and does not sugar coat things. A lot of toys and cartoons for children to be entertained. Staff is friendly too. read more

It took us some time to get into see Dr Satterfield but once my son was established he has had good care for the removal of his cataracts. The office has plenty to keep the kids occupied. Some appointments seemed more rushed than others but overall we felt heard, understood and Dr took the time to explain everything to us and connect with our son. read more

Dr. Satterfield is an expert in pediatric ophthalmology - she knows her stuff, but she struck me as very no-nonsense. She's didn't tiptoe around sensitive issues or gently give me the bad news - she was frank. Some people may not like that style, but I let it roll off. She's the number one doctor in the area that all doctors will refer you to, so you can expect to wait MONTHS for your first appointment. Ultimately, we have had success with her. I'm not a huge fan of her office staff....their phone hours are wonky, and it seems like i can never get a hold of a person! I listen to the "our office is now closed" message after taking time out of my work day to call exactly within the specific hours and minutes indicated on their really long phone message.... Once I got through, Dr. Satterfield did correspond with me over e-mail to sort out our issue. Thye do sell Miraflex frames which are hard to find, so that's a plus. If you're a lost parent looking for resources on your childs eye condition, she'll be straight up with you and wont hold your hand through it, but I found some great online resources on my own time that really helped me to better understand my sons eye condition, and I had better questions the next time i was in her office for it. My husband was referred to Dr Satterfield by his regular ophthalmologist several years ago when we lived in Sacramento. She did not pressure him into having surgery then, advising him to contact her again if he got worse. He finally decided that he needed to have his strabismus corrected and we decided to travel from Oregon for Dr Satterfield to do the surgery. The office staff was very helpful to us, allowing us to get all the advance paperwork done from home via computer and fax. The surgery went very well and he is able to see normally for the first time in many years. Dr Satterfield was very informative, patient and professional. We highly recommend her! read more

The office was very kid friendly. We only had to wait 5 minutes in the waiting room and then less than 5 minutes in the exam room for Dr. Satterfield to come in. I was referred to Dr. Satterfield but, after a 3 month wait for an appointment I took my 3 yr old to an "adult Opthamologist' to get an exam in the meantime. After waiting the 3 months tof be seen and being told she was the ONLY pediatric Opthamologist I was really having big expectations. I was not very happy at all. She was very forceful with her hands and when she went to dilate his eyes she literally just sprayed stuff in his eyes without at least warning me. I get that she needed to get the stuff in but, maybe tell me what's happening 1st or at least let him sit in my lap for that part. She didn't seem to care at all that it scared him and of course he started crying. The exam took longer than I had anticipated, so I had my husband meet me there to finish the exam so I could go to work. Later my husband was trying to tell me about the exam but, I wasn't getting all the info. I decided to call the office and see if Dr Satterfield, or someone else could go their findings. When she called me back, she was EXTREMELY rude, and even put off by my concerns. I'm a mom, and have some questions so, you would think she would he a little patience..but, NO. And she pretty much bad mouthed the other Opthamologist saying that my son actually didn't even need glasses. So now, I don't even know who to believe. I guess I'll try and find a 3rd Opthamologist to get some answers. read more

I work for a program for low-income children-the majority of who receive Medi-CAL. One of our children was referred to Dr. Satterfield. The parent requested our assistance in following up with the doctor (IF YOU CAN CALL HER THAT) because the prescription was causing the child intense headaches. I spoke directly with the doctor (who literally answered the phone by saying "WHAT DO YOU WANT"). The doctor refused to call the parent to address her concerns, stating the she would not be reimbursed for the call and that the parent needed to follow-up with Medi-CAL for a new referral. I am disgusted that a doctor would be so obviously driven by financial gain instead of patient-centered. I would NEVER recommend a family accept a referral to Dr. Satterfield. DISGUSTING. I have shared my concerns with Medi-CAL. read more

Loved our experience with Miss Denise and Miss Laurel (and the whole team) during our initial consultation. The appointment moved along on time. The staff was super friendly and kid focused (books, magnetic maze toys, gluten free home made mini cookie for reward after eye dilation, coin for a reward from the treasure chest, movies for eye exam, animatronics for eye exam). I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Satterfield and her support staff. My surgery was successful beyond my wildest dreams. I had truly forgotten what it was like not to see double. Driving was difficult and no fun with one eye always being closed. Television and movie watching were no longer pleasurable. A previous ophthalmologist recommended prisms without even mentioning that corrective surgery might be available.. Dr. Satterfield's practice is primarily pediatric, but she takes adults such as myself. Her explanation of my problem, my subsequent surgery and the results were everything I could have hoped for. I owe my vision, and sanity to Dr. Satterfield. Since the past 2 yrs, I developed vertical strabismus/misalignment of my eyes, whereby my eyes were focusing on different positions and giving me two images side by side, but one higher than another. Officially diagnosed as Superior Oblique Palsy, or a weakness of the SO muscle. Can you imagine how insane one may feel in this case? I was going mad, losing confidence in everything in life and feeling pretty hopeless. After having screened many eye-surgeons, I was referred to Dr. S by another patient of hers thru a FB strabismus site. Dr. S told me it was quite a simple fix, as a matter of fact one of her most favorite surgeries. Thank heavens I got the courage t move forward. Well, on Aug 1st, she did fix me almost 90%. I still do see double in a couple of spots, however, for the most part, I am FIXED! Dr. S. is fabulous, she is very skilled, dont bother to doubt her diagnosis or her skill. Even an esteemed colleague of hers from UCLA Jules Stein was extremely complimentary of her skills. Additionally, she has excellent manners, and made the effort to make all communication as easy as possible, as I am based on LA, and not Sacramento. I will also give Debbie on her team kudos for being excellent with her communication, billing and overall kindness and concern. Pls dont get into nitty gritty of any complaints of any negative yelpers. If you want your eyes fixed, Dr. Satterfield is your best bet! And if you have any double vision, go see her ASAP. I want to say something different. Sure Dr. Satterfield may have the skills to deal with very difficult or severe eye problems. But from my experience with my 4 y/o daughter, she seems not patient with the kids who have 'minor' problems. Since my daughter was 1 and half, she was found near-sighted and possible cross-eyes. We were referred to Dr. Satterfield by primary doctor and we visited her office once per year. Every times we spent 2 hrs for traveling and waiting, but only were seen by Dr. Satterfield NO MORE THAN 5 minutes. She always said my kid was normal and didn't give any examinations, even vision test. Now my daughter is four and her version is only 20/70, after a vision screen by the nurse during her annual check-up today. I SHOULD change her eye doctor (Dr. Satterfield) earlier if I know this would happen. I SHOULD trust more my own feeling as a mom, than a professional trained doctor. If my daughter miss the best time for her eyes adjustment, who should be blamed for it? Me or the doctor? read more

bad experience with this clinic. we took our son for an eye check up, at first it was ok. until after the doctor did the first check and asked us to got back to the waiting area. my son wanted to play with that one toy in the check up room and so my wife asked if my son can borrow and bring the toy out to the waiting area. but the doctor said no and told us they have toys in the waiting area and this toy that my son wanted to play with stays in the room. so my son threw a big tantrum. i know as a parent we have to teach our kids that we CAN'T have everything, but since this is a place of business, you want your customers to be happy and have a good experience. i felt like we didn't get that. to top it of, since my son was throwing a tantrum because of that toy, he became uncooperative and this eye doctor thinks my son is autistic!!! i work in healthcare, i treat my patients with the outmost respect and service. i do not recommend this place read more
