The store owner really cares and you can see it. We are staying in a condo and flew in, so we don't have transportation. We decided to walk everywhere. When I relized I left my belt at home. We started the search to find one. I bet we checked every department type store we could find. There wasn't a belt to be found. They all said "People come here asking for belts all the time" I thought to myself. Maybe we should stock them? lol We finally found Maverick and they had some cool one size fits all leather belts. My wife ended up buying most of the souvenirs she had been looking for here. The place was very organized and had great inventory. I highly recommend checking them out over the Alvin's you see on every corner.

While driving along the Gulf coast on the way to Destin, I noticed a sign for the store on my left hand side. I've always enjoyed archery and wanted to test my shot at least once in my life, but was always quite intimidated. I've past up the opportunity to experience a range countless times prior but after seeing the recent contest in the Olympics, I figured what the heck, let's just at least check it out. Upon walking in, I told the fellas behind the counter that we're from 100% newbies, have never shot or even held a gun before, and were visiting from New York. One employee grinned and jokingly remarked "ohh just the words we love to hear", to which we all had a good chuckle. We told them our intentions of going to the range for the first time and they were very patient and informative every step of the way. First, they gave us an 45 minutes to an hour of private safety instruction. They went over the do's and don'ts, foundational aspects of stance, safety and aim. Our instructor was very clear, calm and professional. After we felt comfortable enough and passed his standards, we were on our way to the actual range. While dawning proper ear and eye protection, we were allowed to pick any guns we'd like, and could swap out anytime. What was so unexpected and neat about it all, was the price! We shot one full box of ammo, tried a handgun and a rifle, for about an hour or so, all for only $70! If we had time, we were told we could literally stay there the entire day, as the main charge is really only for the ammo. While I'm totally guessing here, I'd totally assume it would be 2-3x that up here in New York. While I'm not sure this is an activity I'd do again, I'm certainly glad to have tried it and can cross it off my list. Big thanks to Oak Ridge Gun Club for being so patient and professional. I'd recommend them to anyone whose in the area looking to give it a try.

Academy has the best athletic shoe selection, BUT the department's customer service is the pits. Rarely do they greet you or offer help and if you do ask for help it appears that you are bothering them. This past week I have been in the shoe department four times and I have never been approached by an employee. Actually that is not true yesterday while standing by an employee for a couple of minutes, as he shuffled and arranged boxes, he asked if I was finding the size I needed. When I told him no, he said "those are the sizes we have." This is great store, great merchandise, but management needs to sell the importance of customer service to their employees.

It wasn't to capacity, but there were 5 groups of guests working on projects and a birthday party in a designated group room. Jerry, is extremely kind and patient. He is knowledgeable about the craft and is wiling to help in any way. The price is more than fair for an evening of positive entertainment and camaraderie. There is an $8 sitting fee. This sitting fee includes access to all materials available for the craft and the fire of your project in the kiln. The cost of the the item you select as your project is the only other cost to consider. That price is reflected next to the item for transparency. In the end, you will pay $8/person and the cost of the ceramic piece. I painted a $25 ceramic chicken, so my total was $33. The length of time you spend at Let's Go Paint Pottery varies depending on your level of skill, the size of your project, or simply the time alloted to enjoy your company.
