This is definitely the last time we will ever go to Denny's next to Disch Falk Field in Austin. We have been parking in the area around Denny's for years when going to the UT baseball and football games. Denny's is so convenient so we like to get there early to park and then stop there for something to eat or drink, especially when it's really hot out. The service has continuously gone down over the years and the last time we went was pretty much a joke. We were seated right away and the staff was friendly enough and she quickly came to take our order. My husband ordered the senior omelette plate and I ordered Stuffed French toast with a side of hashbrowns. A few minutes later, a different waitress went to the table next to us and asked them to repeat their order because our waitress had forgotten what it was. Then about five minutes later, our waitress came to our table and she told us she had forgotten our order, so we ordered again. When our food came out, my husband's omelette plate was accurate but all I had was two pieces of French toast on a plate. It took a while for us to get our waitress attention and I told her I ordered stuffed French toast with a side of hashbrowns. She took my plate back to the kitchen and that's the last we saw of her. After a while, the second waitress came with my food and it was the stuffed French toast but had sausage with it. I told her I did not order sausage but ordered a side of hash browns, so she took it back to the kitchen once again and came back with just the stuffed French toast. It was very good by the way. She said they would have to cook me some hashbrowns and then she would bring them out. We honestly thought we allowed enough time to eat before going to the football game, but as it was I had to really hurry and eat the hashbrowns when they came out, and I didn't even finish them because they tasted like they had been fried in old oil. Around that time, the second waitress was asking anyone if they had seen our original waitress and apparently she had just walked out of work. That was not much of a surprise to us because she seemed very confused when she talked to us. The second waitress was nice enough to take the hashbrowns off of our order since I did not get them until we were ready to leave. And thankfully, they did not charge us for the bacon that just appeared about halfway through our meal. On a sidenote, a gentleman walked in while we were eating and went and sat down at the counter. After several minutes he asked if he could get a menu and someone told him he would just have to wait because he was supposed to wait to be seated and they would have to get around to him. I lost track of how long it took for them to even get him a menu. Very rude. We will not be going back. read more

I got to this restaurant alone, walked in and waited by the host stand where it said please wait to be seated. There were staff there they were talking on each other did not acknowledge me so I decided to walk over to where they keep the menus. I grab one and I sat down to look at the menu. Then an older couple walked in and as soon as they walked in, the staff greeted them and said we'll be with you in a second and a few moments later, they sat them down and I was still there. Denny's is not known for haute cuisine so of course, we neither expect nor get it when we visit. This location though is a great place for a late meal after going out on the town as we've been here after 2 am when there's just nothing else open (even the ubiquitous Waffle House has gone to window only service after 11:30). Food is decent as you'd expect from a mass market restaurant, and it always comes out hot. Staff is good and they keep moving filling water and drink glasses. Good place to go late night. read more

People who haven't worked in the service industry often overlook great service because it appears effortless. Your drink order is taken when you sit down, you have all of your silverware and your menu, your drink arrives two minutes later and if you are ready to order, your waiter takes the order and your food is out ten minutes later with a quick refill of your drink. Seamless, and smooth. I ran into just this type of service today from Jeremiah who was not only waiting tables at 6 am, he is also the general manager. This was my first trip in some time and there were also noticeable and marked improvements to the overall cleanliness of the restaurant and the quality of the food. This isn't a three star Michelin restaurant, and it's not fine dining, but they nailed service in a way I haven't seen in a while. It's good to see this restaurant heading in a positive diretion. Bottom Line: Pretty typical late night Denny's experience of them being understaffed and the food being as expected. While visiting Austin this Denny's was located right across from our AirBnB so we had to pay it a visit on our last night in town. We arrived around 11pm on Sunday and there were a few small parties seated and one huge party seated. We ourselves had to wait a while for our party of five to be seated. We also waited awhile to be waited but I think the staff was doing the best they could. I think there were only two or three employees in the restaurant so the one lady was hostessing and waiting on all the tables. Overall, this was a typical Denny's experience. The food was consisted with what I expected and very reasonably priced. Service was ok and the atmosphere was mostly non-existent except for a few nods to the hey-day of the diner era. Even though The Denny's Staff was super busy (not enough servers, bussers) truly they ROCKED I ordered the CLASSIC Grand Slam (eggs over-medium). Not sure if you know this folks BUT eating Denny's after a fun night of dancing & a little drinking is THE BEST THING EVER!! :) And with this Denny's location being SO CONVENIENT right by IH-35 there have been plenty of times that I literally have no willpower at 2:30am & I convince my hubby to stop by Denny's so I can stuff my face with yummy mozzarella cheese sticks or a juicy hamburger and fries or pancakes! :))) Now you may think that the food or service would be horrible considering it is in the wee morning hours BUT everytime we have stopped at Denny's to eat late night munchies, we have only had positive experiences and our most recent visit on 09/7/2019 was positive as well. Since 9/7/2019 was the UT & LSU game there were so many people at Denny's wanting to stuff their faces like myself so we chose to take our juicy hamburger, french fries, and mozzarella cheese sticks to go & eat at home (okay, for the sake of transparency I ate in the car on out way home because this mama was HUNGRY & had no will power to wait :)) instead of eating at Denny's & I have to give kudos to the Denny's staff because they did a great job of working together to take care of business & to still give a smile to customers even though you know they had to be tired from working those late hours. You could see them communicate w/ each other to get orders out or ask those of us who waiting in the front if we had been helped already. Our food was fresh, hot, and VERY DELICIOUS!! This location has the slowest and laziest servers in the whole state of Texas, the young lady that waited on us was soooo ridiculously slow and ( literally) dragged her feet throughout the restaurant. She took 20 minutes to take our order while she wondered around aimlessly ( 2 other couples were seated) she took our drink order- didn't bother to make sure there was coffee brewed after my husband ordered some, One of the couples got up and left after waiting of 25 minutes to put their order in. My husband had to Ask if he'd be getting his side salad BEFORE his meal came and she laughed and then brought Just the Dressing!!! 10 minutes later she handed the salad over the back of the booth- like an untrained idiot. Then she was sighing and whining about the couple that left. Our food finally came and my potatoes were lukewarm and watery, the food was very subpar for Denny's but the service was absolutely, ridiculously BAD. When I asked if I could have something to replace the potatoes, she just stared at me as though I were speaking a language she didn't understand. I rarely bother to review chain restaurants, because they're pretty predictable. However, the service at this Denny's blew me away! All around us, the service industry is hurting, everything is slow, things are unpredictable, and shortages affect our orders. We've had to lower our expectations. Then, I go into this Denny's, and get the fastest, friendliest service EVER from the manager Billy who was staying late to cover for a server who had a health emergency. I wish I'd known that before I tipped only a little above average on what was already a cheap order. This experience at Denny's brought back what dining out should be like, being able to relax and be almost pampered by attentive wait staff, rather than being another stop that a stressed out server is running around to check on, making you the customer feel like a burden.
