Berry Stuffed French Toast®
Laurie Ann L.

This is definitely the last time we will ever go to Denny's next to Disch Falk Field in Austin. We have been parking in the area around Denny's for years when going to the UT baseball and football games. Denny's is so convenient so we like to get there early to park and then stop there for something to eat or drink, especially when it's really hot out. The service has continuously gone down over the years and the last time we went was pretty much a joke. We were seated right away and the staff was friendly enough and she quickly came to take our order. My husband ordered the senior omelette plate and I ordered Stuffed French toast with a side of hashbrowns. A few minutes later, a different waitress went to the table next to us and asked them to repeat their order because our waitress had forgotten what it was. Then about five minutes later, our waitress came to our table and she told us she had forgotten our order, so we ordered again. When our food came out, my husband's omelette plate was accurate but all I had was two pieces of French toast on a plate. It took a while for us to get our waitress attention and I told her I ordered stuffed French toast with a side of hashbrowns. She took my plate back to the kitchen and that's the last we saw of her. After a while, the second waitress came with my food and it was the stuffed French toast but had sausage with it. I told her I did not order sausage but ordered a side of hash browns, so she took it back to the kitchen once again and came back with just the stuffed French toast. It was very good by the way. She said they would have to cook me some hashbrowns and then she would bring them out. We honestly thought we allowed enough time to eat before going to the football game, but as it was I had to really hurry and eat the hashbrowns when they came out, and I didn't even finish them because they tasted like they had been fried in old oil. Around that time, the second waitress was asking anyone if they had seen our original waitress and apparently she had just walked out of work. That was not much of a surprise to us because she seemed very confused when she talked to us. The second waitress was nice enough to take the hashbrowns off of our order since I did not get them until we were ready to leave. And thankfully, they did not charge us for the bacon that just appeared about halfway through our meal. On a sidenote, a gentleman walked in while we were eating and went and sat down at the counter. After several minutes he asked if he could get a menu and someone told him he would just have to wait because he was supposed to wait to be seated and they would have to get around to him. I lost track of how long it took for them to even get him a menu. Very rude. We will not be going back.

Zesty nachos are a must

Great service, good comfort food and open late. If you are a senior citizen, have they got a deal for you! And our waitress, Tasha, was awesome! (Gave her a good tip.) I'll be back!!!

I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.

There's usually something on the menu for everyone, which makes it such an easy choice for almost any occasion. Their happy hour is one of my favourites in Austin. The mini martinis are served on a martini tree, which makes the experience especially fun, and they also make an excellent dirty martini--perfectly ice cold and well balanced. The beef tartare is another standout and easily one of the best in town. It's always topped with an impressively large egg yolk, which I love. Murray's is an easy recommendation for anyone in East Austin looking for a relaxed, lively atmosphere and a satisfying meal.

Juliet, our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu. My salmon was delicious, the Chicken Francese amazing and the Chicken Pot Pie unique and great, to name a few. Since we were there during happy hour, bottles of wine were half off-a great deal--and portions were very large--another welcome surprise. Knowing we were celebrating a birthday, a manager brought out a tower of seven mini glasses of champagne- a great touch. The Sticky Pudding on the dessert menu also a hit. While a bit out of the way, tucked in a neighborhood, this spot is worth the trip. We all plan on returning soon.

So we thought we would make a whole night of it. Tiffany did make reservations for us for 7pm and even though this is a bar hopping neighborhood, even at 7pm it was pretty busy. Streets were full of people. Anthem had a vibe. I felt the energy as soon as I waked in. The cozy booths with the U shaped seating with plush green velvet fabric. Wait staff wore Hawaiian shirts. Sitting up behind me on a ledge was the Easter Island statue. Insert (Night At The Museum) here, dumb dumb give me gum gum. Anthem was our first stop tonight. Just drinks and a dinner. I ordered the Peach Fuzzy drink. Not too sweet, refreshing, peachy, and beautiful garnish of a flower. I ordered the Yummy Fries which looked like a salad. Gorgeous presentation. Fries were actually waffle sweet potatoes. Pickled ginger, sesame seeds, furikake, aïoli and a few other wonderful ingredients. Could not get over how beautiful everything looked. Presentation outstanding. Service delightful. Had a wonderful time at Anthem. We both did use the ladies rooms before leaving. Inside the bathroom there is a sign about safety and if you need assistants. I did take a picture of it. On our way out, Brian the manager, said good night to us and waved. I really loved how they had Electric Jellyfish on tap. There was a food window available and it really helped people to continue to rally and not have to depart for a bite. Parking was a bit limited so I would recommend rideshare (unless I missed an adjacent parking spot). We snagged a low table with foldable chairs and it really felt like we were hanging out at someone's house. I appreciated how there was a mini stage for a dj or small band. Bathrooms were super clean and the space altogether was very well kept. I will definitely be back whenever I'm in town.

The sound and TVs were all pretty great for watching the game, and they had a ton of space. It was nice having the fake grass and picnic tables in the outdoor areas because it really added to the vibe while still being well shaded throughout. The food was good. During the game we shared the Fried Pickles, which were crispy and well breaded with good pickle chips, as well as their Green Chili Queso, which was also excellent. The chips had good seasoning and the queso was thick. For a main entrée, I ordered the patty melt. It was melty with good flavor, but I would have preferred chopped onions over sliced onions. The Sriracha mayo was great and added a kick I was not expecting. The drinks were decently priced for East 6th all things considered. I was not drinking that night and ordered a mocktail variation of their Lavender Haze using zero proof Empress gin instead of the regular Empress gin. They still charged the same price, which felt a little unfair, but it is what it is. Overall, it was a great experience and a solid bar for games.
