Such a cute place for brunch. I been wanting to try this place since the last time I was in Austin. I'm glad I got to try it this time. This place does get busy due to how popular the place is. They don't take reservations, so you have to there to put yourself on the waitlist. While you wait you can order a drink. We didn't since there were other coffee shops I wanted to try. Since everything looked so good on the menu, we asked our waitress what's the most popular. He recommended the chicken & biscuits, cinnamon toast, & the b.e.c sandwich. I ended up getting the b.e.c. sandwich & it was yummy. The sesame challah bun was soft & toasty. The bacon was smoky & crispy. The bacon, pimiento cheese, jalapeño jam, sunny egg, & arugula in the sandwich was the perfect combination for a breakfast sandwich. The potato wedges that it was served with were crispy, well seasoned, & not salty as all. My boyfriend ordered the chicken & biscuit & it was yummy as well. The chicken was crispy & juicy. Paired with the hot honey made it better. The biscuit was fluffy, but I wished it was more buttery. Overall, everything was so good. My 10 year old daughter and I brought an injured bird to the Austin Wildlife Rescue on Easter and thought we'd try a restaurant near there. I called to see if Paperboy was open and if they had a long wait. There was a recording that said to text only. I texted but didn't receive a response. So we went to check it out. When we walked in we weren't greeted with a "hi how are you?" We just got a cold stare from the hostess and a "We're at full capacity". That's it. It was around 2:20 and they close a 3 pm so it wasn't like we were coming in at 5 minutes before closing. When we left, my daughter even said that girl was mean. If you don't like people then maybe find a job where you aren't face to face with customers. Austin certainly has changed. I've been here for over 25 years. I don't know if it's now an East Austin thing to be snooty and treat people rudely, but we went to Lou's Barton Springs last week with our dog and it was completely different experience. They were welcoming and the employees were all super friendly and nice. My daughter and I enjoyed our experience there and never again will we step into Paperboy East and be treated that way. I'd like better experiences for my kid that was born and raised in here Austin and don't want to subject her to places where we will be treated badly. BTW The right thing to have done is smile, say "good afternoon, I'm sorry but we are at full capacity. Thank you for coming I and please try us another time." It's really not hard. An amazing brunch! Was recommended to try Paperboy and I'm glad I did. If you come here, I suggest getting their Cinnamon Toast over their signature pancake. The toast had a great balance of crunch along with the whipped mascarpone which was perfect. I do think it's a bit sweet but there's more of a flavor profile compared to the pancake. Came here without a reservation because we heard so many good things about it during our trip. When we arrived and put our name down, there were two hosts at the front. one told us it would be an hour and 40 minutes, and another immediately said 2 hrs. Since it was a popular spot, we said yes and decided to wait. An hour and 20 gone by, and we were 2nd in line. We checked in to see how much longer it would be since the line seemed to be moving faster than expected. Even the people who arrived after us were seated already. They told us 40 more minutes, which honestly made no sense. Next thing you know, we were called 5 minutes after walking out. We were seated outdoors in a corner directly IN THE SUN while everyone else was in the shade. There were open tables in the shade, but yet we were still seated there. At that point, it started to feel intentional. No one checked on us, and we had to flag staff down just to order. By then, we just wanted to eat and leave. We ordered the chicken and biscuit and pancake. The chicken was juicy and the biscuit was a little dry. Pancake was super doughy. Overall, would I come back? You have to go there to put your name down, and they were unable to accommodate our table of 6 so we had to split 3 and 3, but our second party of 3 wasn't seated until an hour after our first party. Service was slow but I hate to admit, the food was so delicious. The blueberry pancake was probably the best I've had. The steak and eggs were just standard, but the B.E.C (bacon egg and cheese) burger was so flavorful. Not sure if I'd return unless they fix the waitlist system. We went without a reservation and it was super busy but they said it would be 40 minutes and we probably only waited 20 minutes. We just walked around because the area is super cute with vintage shops and other restaurants. There are indoor and outdoor seating options. We chose to sit indoors which had an open kitchen concept which I always enjoy. My rating of my meals are below. Chicken and waffles - 10/10, the crispy skin and moist chicken with a spicy honey was insanely good. I was sharing with my husband but I didn't really want to give him any after tasting it ha. The gravy and the spicy honey flavors all work so well together. B.e.c. - 10/10, a fun play on your standard bacon egg and cheese sandwich but using smoked bacon, pimiento cheese, and egg. I really liked the jalapeño jam on this if have the perfect level of heat. The arugula was also a nice add to it and the crispy potatoes on the side were perfectly cooked. Paperboy is such a nice brunch restaurant!! My sister and I were in town and after reading the reviews, we decided to head there early. Even arriving at 10:30am, there was a wait of 45min-1 hour (based on my text messages, we actually waited exactly 45 min - 10:33-11:18) and by the time we left, people were being quoted 1.5 hours. Definitely arrive early! I do love that you're able to buy drinks outside, but my sister and I opted to go to Take Heart a block down, which is a nicely curated shop with home goods, kitchenware, and artsy items. I want to give a special shout out to Brittany C, our server, who was very friendly and gave us really good recommendations for menu items. She also learned that we were coming from out of town and this was our first time here and got us a complimentary cinnamon toast! She told us that this was their oldest menu item and they are known for it and honestly??? That was the best thing I had all day. That cinnamon toast was delicious! I'm all about textures and I loved the crunch of the toppings. You have to order this because it's so worth it. We ordered: Earl grey cold brew: loved it - great tea and coffee flavors that blended nicely. Texas Hash & Classic Breakfast: these portions are huge!! You really can't go wrong with either item - the flavors packed a punch. My memory is a little hazier a month later (the cinnamon toast stood out more to me) but I remember we both liked our dishes. I was finally able to visit Paperboy after hearing SO much hype about it---and funnily enough, it was today, on a day many Austinites were expecting to bundle up at home! I had a feeling it wasn't going to be that bad, so my friend (an East Coaster, who also thought the pending "storm" was too great to be true) and I planned to meet here for brunch and catch up after many months. Sure enough, when I arrived at 10, all of the inside seats were occupied or being reserved for larger groups. At least I got seated quickly, even if it was outside on the patio. At least they had a heat lamp right next to our table, and I didn't feel that cold at all. My friend soon joined and we both ordered the seasonal Black Sesame latte, an 8oz cup that I customized with oat milk. We also shared the biscuits appetizer and for my entree, I got the migas plate. I was expecting the biscuits to have a crustier, crunchy exterior with a warm, soft inside, but they were actually super soft from exterior to interior. I also needed the pepper jelly that it came with to sense any flavor. At least the biscuits were small so it did make a great appetizer. My migas entree came out fresh and warm, and I requested a side of ketchup even though it did come with a green hot sauce. My migas were essentially eggs and tortilla strips, and it also had a slice of avocado on top with cojita cheese sprinkling. It also came with tortillas but the egg mixture was just enough to keep me satisfied! I left warm and full and everything tasted great, though I am not sure why this place is overhyped to the extent that it is. Sure, the menu offerings are great and there seems to be some variety with seasonal offerings, but it reminds me of many of the other local brunch spot faves in Austin. I am more than happy to visit again, I just like to take things with a grain of salt and not give all the ribbons to just one place. read more

TL;DR: I would come back here to impress someone, but it is quite pricy. Food: I came here with a friend, and we split all of our dishes family style. We ordered the Paperboy Pancakes ($12), Texas Hash ($17), Steak & Eggs ($28), and each got the Harvest Spice Latte ($7). + I would recommend the Texas Hash to any of my friends coming here! The roasted pork is delicious and falls apart easily. It goes really well with the sweet potato, making this a filling meal while not feeling too heavy. The mole adds a little bit of sweetness and earthiness which I enjoyed too. + The pancake really was quite good as it is fluffy and has that 'melt in your mouth' feel to it. I wish for $12 it came with a second pancake, but it was still tasty. - I think the seasoning of the steak was good, but it tasted more cooked than medium rare. For almost $30, I would have liked more or thicker pieces of meat. The fries are really nice and crispy though. Service: I appreciated that our server was friendly and attentive, even providing an extra plate because she realized that we wanted to split all of our dishes. Even though this is a very high demand spot, I felt like we got proper treatment and were not rushed! Ambiance: This place is aesthetic both indoors and outdoors with lots of natural light. I always love taking photos of Paperboy's exterior for Instagram. They have both indoor and outdoor seating - along with bar seating. Among my favorites are their chicken & biscuit, their texas hash, and the tasso ham & gruyère empanada. They also have a full bar with an excellent cocktail menu. The OG East location is staffed with an incredible team who are friendly, well informed, and attentive. When we got there on a Sunday at 11 they were pretty packed. The wait was around 30 minutes and they have a waiting area outside which was pet friendly. Once we were seated we were served water, and the waitress told us the popular dishes. I tried the matcha latte and added vanilla ($1 up charge) and it was very good. Wanted to treat my son to the best brunch in Austin, according to fellow Yelpers! They were once again, spot on! Thanks Yelp community! It is really a nice little gem of a restaurant. We sat on the first floor patio. Had a very nice breeze and not very hot at all. There is a second floor patio we tried to get but was all booked up. From entering the front door, everyone was so friendly and so polite. We had a short wait which was not bad. We started off with a single empanada. It was so flaky and tasty and fresh! Truly homemade! The spicy sauce added a little kick also. Our wonderful brunch came out at a nice pace. I had the hash and my son had the chicken and biscuits. My has was a super large portion! I did ask for my egg to be scrambled and no kale and they made it perfect. The combination of flavors was amazing! A surprise in each bite! The chicken and biscuits was a nice large portion as well. Not to worry, the propane heaters did a good job keeping up comfortable. We started out with lattes, served in a ceramic cup! Yes, they must actually have a dishwasher here, every thing is served on real plates, bowls, cups, and glasses! I was getting accustomed to paper and plastic cups everywhere in Austin. Oh yes, the lattes were rich and hot, a little on the small side though. The granola bowl was unlike any I've ever had. It was a bold concoction of delicious ingredients including the unusual (Cherry fig Jam w/whole Cherries) and the typical (A creamy yogurt and a perfectly toasted granola). Topped with fresh blueberries and perhaps a bit of olive oil, it was a delightful meld of flavors that made a typically boring dish very interesting. The Texas Hash was darn good. The pork was nicely done even if slightly salty. Nice potato's and egg too. Try a cup of Cheesy Grits, you'll be glad you did. The fresh orange juice was excellent. Paperboy has 2 locations, and this one is their location along E 11th. In terms of parking, there's a small lot right across that fills up really quickly. There's a decent amount of street parking nearby too. Highly highly recommend making an online reservation for the best use of your time! This was my second time visiting Paperboy, and the business has grown a ton in terms of popularity. The first time, I got the Texas Hash and wasn't super impressed (3/5 for flavor and price). This time, decided to check out some of Paperboy's sweet breakfast/brunch options. We were seated at the shaded patio area upstairs, which made for a really nice, relaxing vibe. Our server was also very attentive. Paperboy Pancake ($12, 4/5) - More than enough to fill you up! It has a dense, cornbread consistency, which I personally liked. If you're someone who likes pancakes that are fluffy, though, would recommend trying other things on the menu. - Comes with brown butter and a bit of sea salt on top, with the usual side of maple syrup - Option to add blueberries or chocolate chips for $3 Earl Grey Cold Brew ($5.5, 4.5/5) - Made with oat milk + earl grey honey syrup - Really liked the earl grey flavor, and it was a nice complement to the Paperboy Pancake Also got to sample some of the cinnamon toast and strawberry & pecan pop tart, which were both tasty! Let's start off with the good part. Vibe is great, little outside patio is nice. They have an upstairs too I think, but didn't go up there. Miga's with carnitas......nom nom nom. Paperboy Pancake. A pancake unlike any other. It's soft, but sturdy. Plump. A nice outer crust and tastes like cornbread. The cinnamon butter and maple syrup are great additions, and if I were at home I would've picked up that delicious disc and ate it like a sandwich. It alone deserves 5 stars. Let's take it from the top, parking is a bit tricky as they have a small lot onsite and one across but considering how busy this spot can get that might cause issues for some people driving in. Luckily for us we went early on a Monday morning so we had no issues. When you enter you can see Paperboy has a slightly cliche hipster interior which feeds into that hype feel it has. We opted to eat on the upstairs patio which allowed us to bring our dog. Our server was friendly and attentive as well. Now for the food and drinks. We opened with an earl grey cold brew and immediately realized we were in for a treat. The flavor of the cold brew is phenomenal, well balanced in every way. We ordered the Paperboy pancake with a side of bacon and the Texas hash. Both were downright phenomenal. The pancake was almost closer to a cornbread in flavor and texture but buttery and perfectly chewy. We have never had a pancake quite like it and that's being said in the best way. The Texas hash was full of flavor, every bite having just a little bit of punch to it between the roasted pork, kale, and mole. By the end of our meal we were incredibly happy to have come in. With food like this it's easy to see why this spot is incredibly popular and we very highly recommend anyone come check this place out, just be wary of the reservation situation in advance. read more
