    Veggie Omelette fillings and Hash

WOW Last Denny's American Classic Restaurant left in The State of Iowa. Took us a while to get here...Always seeing the occasional TV ad and I Always Say to Myself "Where the Heck is this Place?" And then I remembered it's hiding in the old "Flying J Truckstop"...now "Loves". So we made a point to find this classic breakfast masterpiece, almost getting swayed to "Cracker Barrel" always slammed on Sunday Morning soo back to the mission at hand; get to Denny's and soo glad it was super duper nice place with no waiting, coffee in minutes, ordered in five and food within 15...WOW again. I went with the loaded veggie omelet plate overflowing w/ hash and butter smothered rye toast, and ruby red grapefruit juice...My Norm. MY Lady went with the classic SLAM to get the big fluffy pancakes. 20 minutes later it was devoured and we are on the way for a "Sunday Drive"...Nice Surprise in Clive!!!

    is anyone surprised?

You stop at a Denny's, you get Denny's... It's here, it's convenient, it's familiar, it'll do in a pinch. Came in hoping to get on the wifi like at a normal Denny's but it's pay-per-view here. I'm not sure how charging for access makes sense but if I have to use my phone instead of my tablet I'll go some place better... waitress dropped off a menu but no water, brought coffee but didn't ask about a fresher until I was done eating my CFS... shame too, it was pretty good, not burnt (yet) Chopped steak was choppy and fried country-style (battered-y), gravy was thick, plentiful, and non-offensive in a flavorless sort of way. Hash browns were crispy on both sides soft in the middle and rye toast was just like that...

When I was looking for a good turkey dinner during the Christmas season and no one else had it, Denny's does! See pics. We stopped in for take out and it tasted very good, even though we had ours at home! Unusual, since everything tastes better fresh from the kitchen anywhere, said including restaurants. Trust me on this, I've done nearly a thousand reviews elsewhere. The turkey was moist and the corn wonderfully sweet. Even the mashed potatoes were good. Clean. Recently remodeled. Very friendly staff. Very family friendly. Plenty of parking. Marcydiner tantrum scale of 5/5-no screaming kids. Prices are good. I'm close to considering this a top ten. I'll have to eat here a couple more times first.

Our night was made by the sweetest waiter Daylee (forgive me if I spelled it wrong) she met the needs of our whole family including our 8 month old daughter Grace. She ate her very first finger foods, sliced bananas & eggs, and loved them. Cooks took a while with our traditional wings order but they were so delicious!!

The quesadilla was actually very flavorful even with the chicken being a tad dry, but for dinner at a diner it wasn't bad. The service was excellent and what drove the score higher! Me my wife and my two kids were taken care of quickly, and the staff was extremely helpful in getting use sitting accommodations for our children. It was our server's first day but he was pretty knowledgeable, helpful, and overall very pleasant. Jack did an excellent job. The ambiance is also really nice. It had the classic retro diner style but still seems clean and cared for. Overall i enjoyed the experience, but I'm more interested in trying their breakfast next time.

In keeping with the theme, some of their best items are nostalgic. One of my favorites is a blue plate special - their meatloaf club sandwich. Where the Dinner really shines, for me, is their breakfast menu which is available all day. I love breakfast for dinner... I have yet to have any breakfast items be less than perfect. And I think I can say that about the meatloaf (dinner or sandwich) as well. Things to know: * Drake Diner is on the Southside of Drake campus and can be especially busy if there is an event on campus. There is street and lot parking available. * Their "seasonal vegetables" are often lackluster, and probably best to be avoided.

The only thing bolstering the ranking is the cookies at the end, but skip the ice cream. Service was just ok. The biggest standout was it taking forever to get the check when clearly finished. Vibe is reasonable and decor is fine but I wasn't wowed. Music including AC/DC and similar was cool. Wouldn't go again or really recommend. Might work to pop in for a drink and cookies but that's as positive as I can do.

I had the Old Fashioned with brown sugar, orange bitters, angostura bitters, and bourbon. It's pretty sweet and smooth Old Fashioned. Very nice start and enjoyable. Decided on the CFD Burger, a double smash with American Cheese, Shaved Onion, Pickles, and Clyde's Burger Sauce. I really like the shaved onion and it gave the beef a really nice flavor. First bites were very good, but the bun became too much and the sauce in the middle too heavy. Became hard to finish. I had to ditch some bun and would get the sauce on the side. Not terrible, just not my jam. I would get the sauce on the side or try ketchup/ mustard instead. The bun is just really thick and heavy. Just not a good ratio. The fries were just ok for me and not exciting. This restaurant also has the 3% fee if you use a credit card. I checked the receipt and gave a hundred dollars and asked for change. I included a picture of the receipt. I got thirty in cash back, 5 singles, a 5, and 2 tens. I am ok with not giving the change of coins, but rounding it up and keeping the 3% fee made me feel like integrity has went down hill. Yes it's less than 5 dollars and I know the haters will say what's the big deal. Well it's a neat way to make extra cash at the customers expense. They don't remove the fee and they keep a few dollars. That's not an accident and it feels like theft. I had left $12 for the tip, but after a review I left 10% due to dishonest customer service. What's the point of paying cash on these if you still get charged? Some have said it's leftover from the Covid Days. How many restaurants are doing a 3% fee? Yes, I know it's supposed to cover the CC fee, but it is obviously not if you are paying cash. This just feels really crooked and wrong. Yes it is a very small amount, just over $4, but if you do that how many times, how many days, over a year it definitely adds up. Not sure I would go back. No I didn't talk to a manager or anyone. I had a show to catch and wasn't going to ruin a night over a fee and be late. Just be aware of the fees when paying cash. Really feel the 3% fee just makes restaurants look bad and provides more problems than it solves. Why not add a 6% fee for lights and gas next?

The interior is quite comfortable: dark booths and soft lighting. But it is still amply lit. While there is a long bar on one side of the restaurant, at least while we were there, there wasn't any loud bar-type background noise/conversations. We started with the appetizer: Inside Out Crab Rangoon, see my pic. What you see in my pic is a bowl of their house made cream cheese crab Rangoon dip which is surrounded by crispy wonton chips for dipping. The dip had the requisite crab Rangoon flavor. There was ample crab meat and the dip was quite creamy. For our palates, it was too sweet. The wonton chips had the flavor down pat, but were quite greasy. We then shared the Chicken Deburgo, see my pic. These are chicken breasts grilled and topped with mushrooms and garlic butter. The chicken breasts were grilled just right. The mushrooms, while not plentiful, were flavorful. The risotto was bland. But when combined with the green beans, which had a ton of garlic (you can see the garlic in my pic), made a great combination. We also shared the House Angus Burger, see my pic. As you can see in my pic, this burger is a fully sized 8 oz burger and was cooked to order. The flavor of the meat was good. My side choice was their Brussel Sprouts. These were caramelized in a balsamic vinegar reduction, so there was a bit of sweetness. They were also good.
