    Breakfast slam 11 2025

We come here to Lakeside dentist because the food is so good. The service is good too today. It was rainy and everything was wet and the service was so good. The ambience was a little cool inside, but that's OK.

The bill before they made the adjustment because of the crummy crêpes

Biggest problem I have with this place right now is they only have one waitress for this whole restaurant. 12 tables with people at them and one waitress? Does that make any sense? I ordered the crêpe breakfast with two crêpes, two eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage, along with a four dollar cup of coffee. For another dollar I could've gotten a Starbucks great tasting coffee, this coffee is terrible! It took longer to order than I would've liked, but there was only one waitress that I saw waiting on tables and taking order. After we ordered , they brought the food pretty promptly, but the coffee was lukewarm and we had to order more coffee that was actually hot.. They made another pot and brought it to us. The lip of my coffee mug also had a chip in it which is unacceptable also, nice place for germs to hide. I'm being very picky, because I'm never coming back here again. I tried a couple bites of the crêpes, they were thin as paper and just as tough, I might as well have been eating paper. The rest of the food was fine nothing spectacular. Of course it's Denny's. I did tell them that the crêpes were unacceptable and since they charge about nine dollars for two crêpes, I expected them to remove at least that from our check which they ended up doing, but I had to make a serious protest in order for that to happen. Everything was so terrible that I did not even leave a tip, but my main tip would be get a cook that can cook crêpes properly or just shut the whole place down. I don't recommend eating here. And I certainly won't ever again. It makes all Denny restaurants look bad.

Not sure why we went back to this Dennys. Dennys off La Canada is the worse. We were seated quickly but sat 8 minutes before the waitress came and asked about coffee and water. At $3.95 a cup you would think they would want to make some money. Our food took 15 minutes to get to us once ordered while people that came in long after us got theirs at the same time or before us with the same and different waiter. Our food was like warm, and we all know what happens when you complain about an order. The ambiance is a typical Dennys. At least the place was clean for a change. I am not going to recommend this Dennys to attend.

The pumpkin pancakes are really sweet but very tasty. Also, can't go strong with eggs and bacon. I would give 5 stars but their curbside pickup has a lot of issues. Excessive waiting, sometimes they don't even answer the phone. Other than that, classic Denny's!

    Poor service

Food is food. We understand that but service is beyond ridiculous. I came for a mobile order pick up and I tried reaching out to servers but all ignored me. I waited 15 minutes until someone finally grabbed my food. Ignorant staff it seems like. I get better service at McDonald's than this. Before you ask, no it's not busy.

We ordered, but a few minutes later, our waiter came out looking like he had to deliver bad news. He apologized and said the chef refused to serve the current batch because it "wasn't up to his standards." Before we could even process being denied our soup, the chef himself walked out to our table. First of all? The man is dangerously handsome. Second of all? He was incredibly sweet. He politely offered us tomato soup instead, but then saw the heartbreak in my grandma's eyes. He told us, "Look, if you really want the matzo ball soup and can give me 15 minutes, I will go to the back and whip up a brand new, fresh batch just for your grandma." Naturally, we waited. Since he knew we were sharing, this absolute legend threw an extra matzo ball into the bowl so we could each have two. Talk about elite customer service! It really made us realize how much the people here care about the quality of their food. They won't serve you subpar dishes just to flip a table. My grandma was on cloud nine. She officially declared it the absolute best matzo ball soup she has ever had in her life (sorry, family recipe, you've been replaced by a handsome chef).

The place was packed and there were so many people in and out of the Lafayette hotel, as usual. This was a late night dinner so I believe we arrived around 8:30 PM. We were seated right away, which we were really happy about. Every time we come the host that sees us is very nice and customer service oriented. Our server was very nice. We ordered the deviled eggs for the table to share. We also ordered Patty Melts and shakes. I ordered onion rings for my side to my Patty Melt and everyone else got the side of fries. The deviled eggs is a super Duper tiny appetizer. The highlight is that it comes with salmon roll on top which are delicious. Our food came out and I will say that it just tasted OK this time. The patties in the patty melt were undercooked (they looked gray colored not brown) and didn't have as much flavor as they normally do. My onion rings were decent, but they just weren't fried correctly because a lot of them were stuck together. The shakes were the highlight of the meal as they tasted delicious and we enjoyed them. Customer service is always great. It's just that, on this night, the food wasn't as tasty as it was the first time. We hope that the food gets back to the great taste that it used to have soon.

Surely they are masters at greasy bacon and eggs, day old coffee, and probably little else. Wrong. Very wrong. This place may look a little ordinary from the outside but there is nothing ordinary about it. It may look like a classic diner inside but it does not sling food like an old diner. The menu is well-written and the food is high quality, excellent, and borderline gourmet. Do not order eggs, bacon, and toast here. Swing for the cheap seats. We tried the Ham, Avocado and Tomato Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was fantastic. If I didn't care about remaining somewhere under 350 pounds, I would return every Saturday and eat my way through every single eggs benedict concoction on the menu and there are many such benedict creations from which to choose. The Banana Nutella crepe, with "whip" cream (not "whipped," apparently, we're gentle with our cream here, folks), was decadent. If you like your breakfasts on the sweet side, you will enjoy this one. The Tres Porkitos omelet (made with ham, bacon, sausage, and cheese) was hearty and just as good as it sounds. The breakfast potatoes were very nicely done but could have used a little more seasoning. There is a salt shaker (and numerous hot sauces) on the table for just these types of emergencies. Do NOT leave here without getting a freshly-made biscuit with butter and honey on the side. You have made a serious error in judgment if you leave without getting one of these. Even the freshly-squeezed orange juice was delicious. Our server was wonderful. No complaints. They have dining inside or on the patio. Encinitas is a delightful community. While I loved the old school diner feel inside, you cannot go wrong with the people watching outside on one of our almost always sunny days in So Cal. If you live here, you already pay the Sunshine Tax so get your money's worth and sit outside, if you can. 10 stars.

So we got back a second time and sit down to order, "Chicken and waffles please" - they are out of chicken. Oof! Strike 1. That sucks. She was disappointed but she got something else and we shrugged it off. Then about 2 weeks back we came in again... this time I asked first, "Do you have chicken for the chicken and waffles?" They are out of waffles. Oof! Strike 2! And isn't it just batter? I don't get it. We didn't stay that time because my daughter was visibly sad this time. So I think we are done trying or else this just becomes a running gag we try to get out of, like Groundhogs Day or something... Atmosphere: It's cozy inside. I love all of the details, like the wood carvings and all of the bear stuff. It's like you're in a log cabin. And I like that they have paper menus and throw them away (because plastic reusable menus are germ magnets). The newspaper-esque theme is pretty cool too. Price: It's no more expensive than say, Dennys or Ihop. Middle of the road and they have lots of options. A decent meal for two - 50$. Service: Each time we have been, the servers have been great. Nice servers and even when the guy had to tell us they were out of chicken, he was super apologetic. No complaints on the service. Overall: It's a nice place... when they have the advertised food. So I honestly don't know if we will be back or not. Maybe we will give it a shot but I don't want my daughter to be disappointed again. I get it, if it was something they only made 50 of a day, I'd understand. But... chicken and waffles? Hmmm...

Very unique and we totally would've tried some ribs had we not gone to Phil's for the first time the night before and had a ton of leftovers. We split a Country Benny and the Jalapeño scramble, which had their homemade pulled pork in it. Julie was an outstanding server. Super patient, attentive, and helpful. You can choose muffins or coffee cake (only $1 extra!) instead of toast, which I love by the way, but I really appreciated that she asked if I had tried the coffee cake because it's not what I thought it was. She explained it as more of a vanilla cupcake with nuts and white icing? Which is kinda random that they call it coffee cake, but it made us opt for the zucchini muffin which was definitely the right choice. Moist, warm, and delicious to nibble on while we waited for the rest of our meal. She also asked if we needed anything else, like salsa, when our entrees came. Which, I usually alwayyys have to request but she was 2 steps ahead of us. The Bloody Mary was tasty and just strong enough to start our afternoon.
