Worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Food was not even warm. The food looked old. I gave this place a chance twice, and it was disappointing. Food was either cold, not there, or overcooked up to the point where it was chewy or hard. The ordering was good, the waiter was kind and caring... but the amount of time I waited for food when it wasn't busy was insane. It took an over 30-45 minutes for the food for the group I was with. We were very excited that Denny's opened in Rice Lake. Sadly, our first visit most likely will not have us returning anytime soon. For starters, after an extensive wait, my food order came out wrong. The food that was delivered was edible, but only luke warm and lacked simple presentation. It looked literally thrown on the plate. Our waitress said she'd correct it, but did not. I requested a refill on my soda, but never received it. We were pretty much forgotten about until a check was delivered. A few words of advice to the management. Your server would be more effective if she could put her phone away and wait on her customers vs. spending her time complaining to the table next to us about how she's being "overworked." Everyone was being told that there was a 20 min to half an hour wait, cause the kitchen was backed up. How backed up can you get with only 8 people. Many customers were leaving and un willing to wait that long. While we were there 35 people left. Not good for business. Going to leave when they called us for a table, fine, took 10 minutes to take our drink order and another 10 minutes to get the drinks. It was 8:30 pm on a Saturday..walked into the hostess telling a coworker to shut up and then waiting for her to decide where to seat us and then telling us she is going to seat us on this side because the waiter on the other side has a million things going on. The food was good, and there were no issues there. We walked in, and there was only one other table with a customer. Another couple followed us in, and the young man serving them (right next to us) was kind, courteous, and quick. They were eating before our food came out. When we arrived and ordered drinks they came very quickly. The menu was covered in coffee, and all the pages were dripping wet and some stuck together. Asked for a few minutes to look at the menu, and about 10 minutes or so later, our server came to take our order. Once we ordered, we waited 45 minutes (not joking was going to walk out and go to kwik trip for food) to get our food. My husband's breakfast food was lukewarm as I am sure the kitchen staff left it sitting under the warming lights while they made my sizzling plate. While we waited, we were able to listen to the restaurant music and the kitchen music, which was full of m.f*ers this and that, f* this, f* that, f* them. Our server peaked out the door from the kitchen several times. Did not offer to top off empty coffee or refill my empty drink. When we finally was able to get refills, our server poured coffee all over the place and didn't even offer to clean it up. I had to flag down another server for a to-go box and to get our check. When we walked to the register, with my to-go box in hand, our server said, "Do you need a to-go box?" I said no, this other young man did your job and gave one to me already, and I held up the box. One server was splayed out on a bench by the front door playing on their phone. Managers need to put a little more effort into training and supervision (I have managed restaurants, been a server, and a cook) and the life lesson for our server; the better the service, the better your tip. read more

Place looked nice but this is a first in a long time I didn't even want to leave a tip besides waiting over an hour for food the portions were much smaller then they appeared on menu but priced as if you were getting a lot more once seated no one came by for refills,didn't have a few items on menu, staff wasn't fully trained didn't know what was on the menu plus I felt like they didn't care either. It was my first and last time going there. I hate leaving a bad review because everyone has a bad day but I don't see this one getting any better it was the attitude. Probably one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. We came in on Christmas Eve at 11pm. There was only one customer in the whole building, with 2 waitresses. It took us waiting at the front 10 minutes to even be acknowledged as staff kept walking by us. I had to go find and ask a waitress if she could seat us. We got our drinks from another waitress, Gianna, who turned out to be our waitress for the meal. She left us sitting with our menus for over 20 minutes, while she sat and played on her phone and chatted with other employees. I asked the other waitress if we could get out order taken since the next customer that came in way after us had already had his taken. She apologized and suddenly Gianna came running up with excuses as to why she didn't take our order when I clearly saw how she was occupying her time. I was polite but not overly friendly when ordering, clearly not happy with the service so far. Our food came, it was subpar and half of my order, she said she had to go get. Came back, slammed/threw my plate of eggs (literally slid across the table) and kept walking. Not a word. So, I went to pay our bill when we were done eating and I let her know that I had initially planned on leaving a nice tip as it was Christmas but the way that she threw my food on the table, rude attitude and the slow service was enough for me not to tip. She didn't apologize, she told me MY attitude was terrible this entire time, put her hand up in my face and argued with me about her shitty customer service. I will be contacting a manager, as well as corporate, on Tuesday about this. This is a terrible place to eat, the food isn't even good. Asked if the bar was open seating (assuming it was like most places) but when asked the hostess she did not know and then her colleague tells me it's not... Visited this restaurant on 08/21/2023. When we went to order meal there were no sides available, no fries, brown gravy and lasagna. An hour after we arrived a man came out from the kitchen waving a plate in the air asking who would have ordered it. This was observed to happen several times. This place needs new management, more employees, and someone to do a thorough deep cleaning and then keep up with it. Our poor server was just overwhelmed. He was friendly, but frazzled - because of short staff, he was waiting tables, running the register, and cooking! Our order was accurate, and the food was ok. My only complaint about food quality would have been with the whole-grain pancakes, which were so dry they fell apart. I had to ask multiple times for syrup and butter. At other tables, we could hear people asking for similar things multiple times, and one table of 3 women had the wrong order brought out twice before it was finally made right. Again, I'm sure it was because the waiter was trying to do it all and it was just too much for one person. The place had the overall appeal of a sinking ship. I hope that young man who waited on us is either given a lot of qualified help or can find another job soon. Won't go back - just too many issues. read more

Waitress was okay..we order our sodas, and then she tells us, well...we are out of hamburger and chicken strips.... So we tried to order chicken fried chicken.. nope outta that too. Our of mashed potatoes also. So my husband decided to not order anything because he didn't want breakfast and he hates sandwiches. So I order the American breakfast or whatever it's called. I got a crappy half order of hashbrowns, the sausage links were cold, my bacon was absolutely tasteless, and my toast was super stale and cold.. we never got our checks (table of 6 split into 4 different checks) the second waitress we had was absolutely awful. First thing my wife and I noticed, No signag, as if they'd been blown off my a storm, which is possible... upon entering we are barely greeted by a young man with 6 hickies on his neck, and instead of seating us, tells us at first there would be a 10 minute wait, then comes back a second later saying it would be a 15 minute wait. looking around at an almost bare restaurant, figuring it wouldn't take long, we decided to wait. As we waited, we watched customers that had been seated, up and leave telling the guy at the desk that they never got served, two other customers waiting with us, also had complaints about previous service there as well as the state of lack of employees everywhere these days. We watched a dishwasher guy come from in back with a dirty tub go around to tables with people still sitting at them demanding their plates with his dirty tub resting on the table edge. But then, the real kicker that made us walk out... 2 young pretty women walk in after 3 other couples decided not to wait, and they get a gal with menus in her hand to seat them right away.... that's it, we're done... the lady waiting across from us had a few more choice words herself and also left... this was after being patient, giving a benefit to the doubt kinda thing. We will never return to this restaurant, and will be letting everyone know about our horrible experience there. read more
