I have mixed feelings about this practice. I called 1-800-DENTIST and was referred there. My presenting problem for referral was severe dental pain . Instead of addressing this my first appointment was in actuality a new patient appointment with a cleaning which would have been fine had the pain been addressed at all . The pain was from an abscess and I had to be re-seen the next day for an emergency appointment because it was ignored at the first visit despite my telling the dentist and the hygienist..... it was clear on the x-rays that I received a dental plan from one dentist and at the next appointment a brand new one. This new dentist has a great bedside manner however his skills are yet to be determined and I would not feel comfortable with any complicated extractions or root work. Another small concern is that I was offered a package which included a cleaning yet I was charged not only for the intro patient package but also for the cleaning which again was supposed to be included in the initial package . read more

0/10, terrible staff and dentist that makes your teeth worse than before I saw Dr T for a 3/4 crown and a filling and the whole time I was having the procedure the dental assistant was flirting with him. I literally felt like a prop. I was barely acknowledged unless a direction was being given (of course when I complained to the office manager, she told me that he doesn't remember that, which why would he admit to it anyway, the dental assistant was literally half his age). AND, it's only been a few months and that tooth is more symptomatic than it was before he put the crown in and it feels like I'm going to rip it off my tooth when I floss. Now I have to go pay several hundred dollars more to have another dentist fix my crown Additionally, I received a couple cleanings there, one of my hygienists was absolutely lovely but I've just learned that she no longer works there (happy for her!), the other one assured me that getting a cleaning every 3 months would be covered by my insurance, even double checked with the front desk and brought me an printout to prove that it would be covered. Well it wasn't. So I was stuck with an over $100 balance even after my copay than they threatened to send to collections. I deeply regret ever stepping foot into this practice. I had the same experience as Ann. The up-selling was rampant. I went in for a cleaning, two hours and many x-rays, pictures, and sales pitches later, I was finally done. Buy this toothbrush, get this fluoride treatment (for the low low price of $27!), you need x done every three months, with y and z waiting in the wings, etc. Don't get me wrong, everyone was very friendly and professional, but I've been going to the dentist regularly my whole life and this was just a crazy experience for what I thought would be a routine cleaning. Special shout out to Breanna who was super helpful and friendly on the phone. I cannot recommend them though, due to the above. I do wish everyone there the best. Get a second opinion. I bought their groupon. Got a good cleaning. After a quick glance at my x-rays, the dentist told me I had three cavities and needed a four-part gum treatment procedure, all of which came to $2100. I looked him in the eyes and explained I was a student without dental insurance, and he replied that they had a payment plan. I was almost ready to cry. I decided to double-check with my family dentist back in my hometown, a guy who is widely respected. He found NO cavities and said the gum scaling procedure would have likely done more harm than good. I don't know what to say about this whole experience. I feel betrayed. read more

The Dentist assured me that if I wasn't happy with the color or fit of the crown he would make a new one because he said, " We make them in their office." After the Dentist put the Crown in he handed me the mirror, and I was shocked because the color was so dark, and it didn't match my white teeth that I bleach annually, and touch up during the year. Well, when I said I thought it should be redone, the Dentist back pedaled on his assurance to me. I paid $1200.00 for a crown that I ultimately had to have redone by another Dentist. Aside from my bad experience, what I also learned is that while front Crowns made in the office while you wait are convenient, they are also inferior to the front Crowns that are made off site due to limitations in shape, and don't look as natural even if the color does match. This should be a consideration on the front teeth you see when you smile. read more

Dental by Design has a pleasant and competent team. However, beware up-selling: 1. Told I would need additional deep-cleanings for a non-existent gum problem (verified by 2nd opinion dentist.) Overheard the hygienist making the exact same recommendation to another patient later. Script? 2. Photo-shopped my smile to convince me to purchase veneers. No thank you. Happy with my natural smile. 3. Attempted to sell me "their" electric toothbrush. I am using an Oral B which does a fine job. Previously-mentioned 2nd opinion dentist also noted two additional dental problems using the films sent upon request from DbyD. One was a cavity; the other was a cracked filling which was also evident upon direct examination. read more

I had been putting off going to the dentist for YEARS, and because of a cracked and painful tooth, was forced to make an appointment. I chose Dental By Design because my husband had bought me a groupon for a cleaning and whitening. I am so glad that I sucked it up and went in for a consultation. They were friendly and warm from the moment I walked in the door, and they have the top of the line, latest equipment. It's clean and inviting and they make you feel comfortable and at ease. When I expressed my anxiety about being there at all, I was immediately comforted and my many options for pain relief and anxiety relief were explained in full. They want you to like going there, it's obvious that I am not the only one nervous to be in a dentist chair, these people are experts at dealing with anxiety. Give them a try, and while you may not be counting the days until your next appointment (come on, it's still a trip to the dentist), I promise you won't find every excuse in the book not to go, because these folks know what they're doing. read more

I purchased a groupon for a cleaning, dental exam and x-rays. The staff was very friendly, no complaints there. But after doing the x-rays and examination, they told me I was in the beginning stages of periodontal disease, had gingivitis and needed 3/4 of a crown on one of my teeth, along with several cavities. My instincts knew better. The cost of all of this work was going to be somewhere around $1500. I don't have dental insurance. A few days after leaving, I called my moms dentist and made an appointment to get a second opinion. I paid dental by design $35 to have them release my X-rays to my moms dentist. I just left that appointment this morning and her dentists exact words were "You got duped. There is nothing wrong with your teeth or your gums, they all look great! All I would suggest is a filling where they told you that you needed a crown." Shame on you dental by design! You are crooks! Thank God I got a second opinion! I will not recommend your practice to my family or friends. I wonder how many other people you guys have scammed out of their hard earned money by telling them they needed dental work when they didn't. Always trust your instincts people! Whatever you do, be sure to get their refund policy in writing. After spending $12,000 plus for a new bridge, and the bridge was totally unacceptable, Dr. Z tried to say it was because my mouth was crooked. Of course, my mouth is not crooked and even if it was, isn't a cosmetic dentist supposed to correct that? I had to go to another dentist and spend another $12,000 plus to get a new bridge that is absolutely beautiful. After my new dentist requested my x-rays from Dental by Design, I received a call and was told how Dr. Z wanted to work with me. How can you work with someone who won't take responsibility for their screw ups? I was not comfortable going back to him. To whom it may concern: May I start out by say; I have never met you Dr. Dimitris, and only know that you were the doctor who prescribed the antibiotic and Tylenol with codeine. So you don't know who I am, and how I responded at your practice. I can only assume this is coming from the receptionist, Daniela. I am always friendly, because I like to think about my responses before I respond. I did mention a problem; I asked you to schedule me for Dr. George, and NOT Dr. Benaissa. If I was the receptionist; I would realize this patient wants to see only one dentist. If there was a problem with this, then I would address it. You are obviously the person who does not realize the concept that some patients prefer to see one dentist. This seems to be your problem, which you dumped on me--the patient. You are surprised about my post, because I am addressing the problem, and you prefer quiet people. I do not like how you are twisting my words; and you need to re-read my post. I never got a crown from you, and there was A LOT of miscommunication in the filling. Let me set the record straight: Dr. Benaissa has been in my mouth once (filling). Dr. George Enescu has been in my mouth once (root canal from the filling that Dr. Benaissa couldn't do). Dental Hygienist was in my mouth three times (once for x-rays, and twice for deep cleaning). Trust me, I know, I felt it all. Things went south at the second deep cleaning appointment, which is where my post begins. The dental hygienist was the only one who asked me a billion questions, which were certainly not being written down anywhere. Later in your post, you say that you addressed my concerns. "As you know, our new patient visits are very thorough and we spend a lot of time addressing concerns of our patients as well as doing a comprehensive dental exam." If you knew I had concerns, then you knew my problems, and I would challenge the fact that you addressed them. Your new patient exam AND your visit for your filling and your crown were both with Dr. Benaissa, the same dentist. As you know, our new patient visits are very thorough and we spend a lot of time addressing concerns of our patients as well as doing a comprehensive dental exam. It is the responsibility of all dentists to diagnose treatment for patients as well as explain the clinical reasoning behind the proposed treatment plan. Both your hygienist and Dr. Benaissa reviewed why treatment was recommended and showed you the supporting clinical data. You stated that when you were here for your crown visit, Dr. Benaissa said he couldn't work on your tooth. Nobody said your tooth couldn't be worked on. When decay has reached the nerve of a tooth the standard of care is to have a root canal before placing the final restoration (crown). Dr. Benaissa does not do root canal treatment on molars, but fortunately we have a dentist who works with us and does do root canal treatment, Dr "George" Enescu. After having the root canal completed, you were scheduled back with the only other dentist you've seen in our practice, Dr. Benaissa. I apologize for the miscommunication during scheduling but Dr. George is here on Mondays only and you were not available during the open appointment times. You also mention that we collected money for procedures not performed. This is untrue as well. We have not charged you for a crown and you have not paid any money towards a crown. We do our best to take care of our patients and have tried reaching out to you, but have not heard back. I'm from the West Coast. My crown fell off while visiting Kittery Point, Maine. Looked for a local dentist to help. I called 1-800-DENTIST and got a referral to this office. The front office staff is very helpful and cordial. The Registered Dental Hygienist ALEX is a wonderful person to talk with, interact with, submit with, and cooperate with. I loved her. Then, Dr. Dimitris was thorough, considerate, and explanatory about my situation. I would visit this office again. They provided me prophylactic antibiotic prescription and tooth wash in case my tooth infected overseas. Take Ibuprofen for pain if necessary. What a nice office group. If I ever visit here again, this is my go-to Dentist Office. read more

Be prepared for the hard upsell. (scare tactics and all) Have any previously filled cavities? They are going to ask to redo them - CHA CHING! Have a regular toothbrush? You definitely need vibrator - CHA CHING! Gums a little tender? You have the start of *dum-dum-dum...* "gingivitus!!" You are going to need an expensive antibiotic treatment inserted into your gums - CHA CHING! First visit - first 30 minutes - Have you ever considered professional teeth whitening - CHAAAAAAAA CHING! Now to give you a point of reference for the above mentioned--I am in my late 20s, have always gone to the dentist. I would put my teeth in a healthy average/above average category. To be fair - Do they do good work? Mostly. Only had to go back in once to have an error corrected. Are they friendly? Cleaners and dentist - yes. Front desk - no. Do you love having unexpected bills after a visit? Do you love being pressured to purchase services you don't need? This might be the place for you. read more

My experience at DBD was a positive one - which is saying a lot when it involved a root canal. The office vibe is cheery, the folks at the desk quick to schedule and quite helpful presenting various payment options and plans. (DYD offers an in-house, alternative traditional dental insurance). My dental hygienist claimed to actually enjoy her work - hard to believe but apparently true - and the two dentists I've worked with knowledgeable, candid and proficient. There are many reasons to choose dental by design! From their highly skilled staff to the modern techniques and equipment. I came to this practice as a new patient in hopes to get back on track with my dental health as life got busy and my trips to the dentist became few and far between. During my first visit a treatment plan was set up(more work was needed than I had expected) however the Dr took the time to review my x rays with me along with using a camera in my mouth to help me better understand any treatment necessary. Why be reactive when you can be proactive? This practice is shady indeed. My husband went to them and was told, "you have 5 cavities...how many do you want us to fill right now?" Then my son went in ( he was visiting from abroad) and was told he also had a mouthful of cavities. I immediately got suspicious and ordered second opinion consults for both. The second dentist could only see shadows that should be followed, not filled. then my son went back to his dentist abroad and was told the same thing...that there was no treatment needed. To top it off, when I was taking my other son to a very reputable oral surgeon in the area, I asked if he had heard of this practice and he said, "stay away!" That confirmed it and we have been with Atlantic Family Dentistry ever since. Dr. Nesvold is terrific. Regarding the former, I was so disgusted that I considered reporting them to the state board, but like many good intentions did not follow up. I feel bad for Dr. Brown's old patients. He was a great dentist...hopefully his patients have moved on. I suspect these guys will implode or get caught or smarten up at some point. read more
