Although this facility is clean and professional, I wouldn't get more than a cleaning here. I've always taken great care of my teeth and have only needed minor dental work over the years. Suddenly I go here and this dentist says I have 7 cavities/fillings that needed "fixed" or redone. I trusted him and did them all. It took almost a year for most of them to stop hurting or being very sensitive when chewing etc. After reading these reviews it seems this guy just wants to get paid and doesn't actually care about your teeth or what you actually NEED. I transferred to Dental Care West since my previous dentist no longer accepted my insurance. I was pleased with my cleaning that was done by the hygienist. She was very thorough and had great chair side manner. As for the doctor, I am not pleased with his over diagnosis. He told me I had several fillings that needed to be done. After reading the other Yelp reviews, I decided not to have those filled. It seemed odd that I have always been under a dentist's care and all of a sudden I had several cavities. A couple weeks ago, I started having pain in one of my molars, I went back to Dr. Adams to have it checked. The tooth had a small visible crack that was on the surface of the tooth, it did not travel down to the gum line. He told me I needed to have a crown done, which my insurance would not cover. It was going to be $980. I went to another office today to get a second opinion and I was told there is a superficial crack which did not warrant the use of a crown. A filling would work just fine to restore the tooth, which my insurance would pay for. As for the other teeth, he said these teeth were perfectly healthy. I do have deep crevices which could potentially develop cavities over time, but there was no decay present. He said I was able to have sealants done if I was worried about them turning into cavities but it wasn't necessary. Be cautious and get a second opinion if needed. I went in for 2 fillings and was told oh no I need 7 crowns including 2 that needed redone that are not even one year old. I have looked back years and this seems to be how this dentist operates. Of course I have Medicaid currently because Blue Cross lost its contract in Idaho so it was explained I should probably have all my teeth pulled and put in a denture because it would be paid at 100% by Medicaid and roughly $7200 if I wanted to keep my teeth. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I kind of felt almost bullied.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have been a nurse for 38yrs and have seen underhanded providers. Be careful with this guy. Not sure about his work but to tell me all my teeth got to go! I went back to my regular dentist to ask if he thought I really needed that....nope x rays from 3 months earlier showed I only needed 2 fillings everything else was good. I went into the office about 6 months ago as a Medicaid patient it is hard to find anywhere that will take Medicaid so I gave this place a try they told me I had 17 cavities which I thought was odd as I had been to the dentist no more then a year before and had 4 cavities filled. As I read more review at this place I am feeling like I was lied to and they take advantage of people on Medicaid and bill for more then what is actually needed. Regardless I got the fillings done and one time they hit a nerve and my tongue was left numb for about a week. And they showed no care about it. Anyways I sent over my husband as he also needed to get a routine exam and they told him he had 4 cavities which was going to cost over $2.000 so he went to clock tower to get a better opinion and they told him he had no cavities. & this just reassures all my doubt in this place. She could tell I was in a lot of pain and was very gentle and sweet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She is the only positive thing about my experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dentist made me feel so awful about myself. I admitted I had used drugs in the past ( I have been clean for 5 years now yay!) but my teeth took some damage during those years, and I am now in a place mentally and financially where I am capable of starting to fix them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They're not rotting out of my head, but I do need a root canal on a back molar that cracked and is causing me INCREDIBLE nerve pain & swelling so an infection was setting in.. and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I literally left this building after the dentist spoke to me and sat in my car and cried because I felt guilty for not taking care of my teeth after spending thousands for braces previously.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I have never have a doctor of any sort make me feel this way. If you need a dentist that accepts Medicaid valley family dental in payette and Ontario accept Medicaid and have much better bed side manners. I usually don't leave reviews like this but I really feel like I need to share the experience I had to save someone else the trouble. This happened over a year ago. I had Medicaid for a short time and needed some dental work done. When I called this office to schedule, I was told this was the only dental office in the area that took Medicaid at the time and I didn't really look deeper into it because I needed it done pretty badly. I had a few cavities filled and it was honestly a rough time, I was quite literally choking on my own saliva and begged them to use the suction... which they didn't do much of. The constant choking feeling started to make me panic so i asked to take a quick break.. which they straight up told me "no". So i just sucked it up and let them finish. When they finished, they cleaned me up, told me to schedule my next appointment and sent me home. I noticed the side of my mouth that they worked on looked "off" when i got in the car but i hoped it was just bad lighting and i drove home to get a better look. Once i got home and looked in the mirror, i noticed a huge gap between my teeth. After a closer look, i could see that the tooth next to one they had been working on had been drilled into and had a noticeable dent in it!! I immediately called the office back and they asked me to drive back to take a look. I drove back and they sat me down in the exam room. The doctor comes in to take a look and immediately goes "oh yeah I accidentally drilled into this other tooth" WAIT, WHAT?!? You drilled into the tooth NEXT to the one you were working on and sent me HOME LIKE THAT?! It was extremely noticeable!! He knew, did/said nothing and just packed up and sent me HOME!! Absolutely not. I cancelled my next appointment with them haven't been back. I hope I don't have any long term issues with this tooth because of this Drs negligence. Truthfully, do not come here. I was actually sent home in worse shape than I came in. It's not worth it. read more

My son, Nathanael, is on Medicaid. He is a vulnerabel adult who needs an advocate with him during his appointments. There is a sign on the window that goes back to the exam rooms stating "as per the new HIPPA and OSHA regulations, no PARENTS are allowed beyond this point". [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have to admit that the receptionist did tell me about the rule when I made his appointment and said I could go back during the exam.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went ahead and made the appointment because it is extremely difficult to find a dentist in the Treasure Valley that takes adult medicaid. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we got Nathanael to the appointment and was called back I was reminded that I was not allowed to go back for x-rays or cleaning, just the exam.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I admit I was very irritated as I again explained he needed to have an advocate with him during his appointment. During the exam, Dr. Adams did say he had lots of cavities and said it would be in his best interest to have his fillings done under sedation. He explained that in order for medicaid to pay for the sedation it had to be done at either a hospital or a surgery center and there are two dentists in the Valley that was able provide the service. He aslo told me he would give me those phone numbers so I could call to set up an appointment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Instead his office staff gave me the phone number to the medicaid provider hotline to find those doctors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Today, November 6, my son received a letter from Dr. Adams terminating his care with Nathanael with no reason given.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DENTAL OFFICE TO ANYONE, especially if you have a child who needs care or a vulnerable adult. read more

Please read this review before you decide to get "care" from this dentist!! I scheduled for a routine appointment, got the x-rays done, got the cleaning, got the exam, and the dentist told me that "there are no major issues but you'll need 6 crowns and 10+ cavities filled." Seeing as how I never had more than 2-3 cavities at a time, I thought this was suspicious. I also had no teeth pain at all. To go further into the suspicion - there were no other clients in the office the entire time & only time I was there & the dentist never showed me my x-rays to show me my "problems." Neither of those things should occur when going to the dentist if they are even somewhat good at their job. So I decided to pay up to get private insurance and I looked into getting a 2nd opinion because I was looking at a $6,700 total for all that I "needed" according to this dentist. The 2nd opinion showed me that this dentist is full of it! I actually only had 2 cavities, ZERO crowns were necessary. PLEASE READ OTHER REVIEWS ON THIS DENTIST to hear various versions of horror stories! This guy should be ripped fromhis license ASAP because of negligence/malpractice. read more

I wish I didn't even have to give him one star. This guy is truly a psycho. I honestly believe he enjoys torturing people. This was my daughters experience: WARNING! The most horrific experience in mine and my daughters life. My daughter is 17 years old and went in for a routine wisdom tooth extraction. She was terrified as she had to have all four wisdom teeth removed. The first dental assistant that went into the exam room told me that I could not stay in the room for the procedure and no matter what, she was not budging. She was not pleasant at all. I told her that we were going to leave and I went to talk to the young lady that schedules the appointments in front. She was very kind and allowed me to stay with my daughter. The dental hygienist and another dental assistant came into the exam room (who were also very polite) and proceeded to inject a local anesthetic and begin the nitrous and calmed my daughter from her anxiety. Everything was going well, the dentist came in and fixed a cavity and placed a sealant on my daughters teeth and then he left to do another procedure in another room. He took quite a long time in the other room and then came back to extract my daughters wisdom teeth. My daughter was saying ouch many times, he told her to stop talking. She began crying as he continued prying the teeth out of her mouth. I told him to please give her some more numbing injections and he told me how he began the whole procedure and how she didn't react until she felt pressure. She told him it hurt since the beginning and he just shut her up. Then he proceeds to tell me, "that's why it's hard to have parents in the room." He proceeds what he's doing and my daughter is crying out "mom" and "help." I worked in the medical field and I know that patients can confuse pressure for pain, so I trusted that he knew what he was doing. When all was said and done, on the car ride home, my daughter told me that at one point during the extraction she thinks that she blacked out because she felt everything. Her pain was unbearable. My assumption is that the local anesthetic may have been wearing off by the time he got to extracting my daughters teeth. He had no compassion at all. My daughter basically got tortured and I sat and watched trusting that he knew what he was doing. The staff is great but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DENTIST TO MY WORST ENEMY. I plan on filing a complaint against him wherever I can. read more

Dr (and I use that term loosely) Adams is a butcher! I would not recommend this Dentist Office to my worst enemy! . I had 18 teeth extracted in order to get my dentures. Dr Adam's nor his assistant was very skilled, Between her choking me with the water gun and him breaking teeth and letting them fall down my throat and digging the roots out, my gums were a war zone. I physically had to push them off of me at one point because they would not let me up to choke a piece of tooth up. i literally had to seek therapy for the trauma inflicted on me. the place should be renamed "The little shop of HORRORS"I would recommend Terry Riley before this place. i've been healing for almost 2 weeks and i am still in agony! read more

I made an appointment with the office for an emergency tooth extraction, got in same day and was excited. Once I arrived for my appointment I was disappointed. The staff was cold and unfriendly, the office was bare, like they had just moved in. The dentist was more worried about how he was going to be paid than getting me out of pain. I told him I had issues getting numb, his response was "that's what everyone says" He gave me 2 injections and guess what, not numb! Gave me a few more over the next hour. Not numb enough to pull the tooth. At that point he came in said we can't get you numb, go home and come back another day!!! As I was leaving he passed me in the lobby and was out the door to his car. This told me that he was more worried about leaving than helping me. I went home, once the numb wore off I was in twice the amount of pain I was before he started. read more

Dentist said I needed 4 crowns. They did one. I told them I had TMJ and that my jaw locks so they have to be careful. They put the largest mouth guard thing in my mouth and when he tried to take it out it was stuck...he had to yank my jaw. It took over 6 months to get better. I waited a year...went to another dentist. He took ex-rays and said I did not need any crowns. He was super careful when I told him about my TMJ. He said he had three sizes of mouth guards and if I wanted he would not use any. I don't recommend this dentist. read more

I would not recommend this dentist! I had 17 teeth extracted for dentures. He dropped a toorh down my throat and started chocking. He didnt act concerned one bit. I sat myself up and was able to cough it up. What does he do? He turned around and blamed me for the incident. When he was done with the procedure he quickly left the room not giving me any instructions. This procedure was brutal to say the least it was horrible. One of the receptionists was so rude and abrasive. She treated you as if you were a bother and wasting her time. Im sure if i was paying cash i would be treated differently. I was given enough pain pills to last 3..4 days tops. I made an appt to have them refilled and to hopefully get some instructions. I thought i was supposed to leave the dentures.in day and night while i was healimg. When i saw him he again tried to turn it around and blame this on me. He got upset with me and gave me a lecture on bacterias. He said i was supposed to take the dentures out at night after the first 24 hrs. Again mind you I was never told this or anything. Then after having 17 teeth pulled out he refused to give me a refill of my pain meds. I was obviously in great deal of pain and he was not empathetic one bit. He said he only will prescribe enough for the first 3 days period! I didnt have just one or two teeth out but 17! I was not told to make any follow up appts or anything at all. I had to make an appt on day 4 obviously in allot of pain and he could care less totally unethical! He too was acting like i was.a bother and or wasting his time. I refuse if i have to have a follow up to make it with him. This was an awful experience and hum and his receptionist made it worse. I am recommending if you are looking for a dentist you do not want to go there! This was the worst practice i have ever been to. If you want to be treated like crap and butchered this is the place for you. You are better off going anywhere but there. read more

Terrible business!!! Dental Care West will likely not last much longer before it'll be shut down. This place is flagrantly unprofessional. As with all the other negative reviews obviously the staff is incompetent, rude, overwhelmed and lacking basic business principles. I went in for a crown to be done in place of an existing filling that was covering a fractured back right molar (a crown instead of root canal was a suspect diagnosis in my humble opinion) regardless, once having arrived for the procedure the consistently dry, poor communicating & lethargic front desk gals were quick to deflect my inquiry about bill payment and instead of accommodating my payment quickly had me ushered to an exam chair. I explained in intricate detail which I'd had to do previously that a family member was making partial payment over the phone and that I too myself would be making payment as well. The oblivious front desk employee literally walks into our operation room as I've just been injected with the numbing agent she then puts a clipboard in front of me clearly this amateur and unprofessional company is a completely new and inexperienced group that frankly shouldn't be in business at all. The end of the story is I told the staff I'd be taking my business elsewhere and I strongly recommend you do the same if you're considering using this place. read more

I really wanted to like this office. I really, really did. The staff is friendly, as is Dr. Adams. The prices are quite affordable. I have been going here exclusively for over a year now. I have had half a dozen or more fillings, a cap, and an extraction here. The extraction was quick and painless and healed wonderfully. The cap I got close to a year ago and I've had no issues with it. Now to the fillings, and unfortunately, the reason I have to give a one star and start the tedious process of finding another reasonably priced dentist to put my trust in. So my first issue was with one of my fillings that fell out a few months ago, it was an 8 month old filling. I've never had a filling fall out in all my years of dental work, and I've had quite a few fillings. So I was very surprised. I went in and they fixed it for free, great. Less than a week later another filling fell out on the same tooth on the opposite side. I'm starting to get paranoid at this point about my fillings. That still hasn't been fixed as Dr. Adams hasn't said anything about it in the visits I've had since and I've just given up at this point. I had a tooth that chipped off, nothing to do with dental work, well that filling lasted three days. I went back in and had it fixed. The replacement filling was jagged and I couldn't get floss all the way up to the gum on that tooth after having it fixed the second time. Now at this point I'm really scared to mess with my teeth and decide to leave it as my trust in this dentist is pretty much gone at this point. Well today I was flossing and the jagged end of that filling fell out. Not the whole filling, just a sliver of it this time. I've washed my hands of the place and will deal with the chipped filling and hole in my mouth until I go to another dentist as I don't trust this place anymore. Like I said I really like the office and the staff and the prices and it's really hard for me to build up trust in a dentist as I'm kind of a hypochondriac when it comes to dental work. But unfortunately it just didn't work out for me. If you've not had any issues, good for you. I unfortunately have and now am scared to get any further work done here. read more

Excellent visit. They just moved into a new office and it's super nice. The front desk lady is friendly and helpful. Dr. Pilling is really personable and fun - my kids really like him a lot. I needed some work done beyond a regular cleaning and he gave me a few different treatment options based on what I wanted and what I was planning to spend. I was really happy with the outcome and plan to return for all of my family's future dental needs. Additionally - my pain was well managed by the office, and I never had any problem refilling like the poster below. It seems to me they would not deny pain medication unless they had good reason to suspect something. Anyway - great experience! read more
