When I looked up this practice, I'll admit the advertising got to me as they seemed to truly care about people and the anxiety that goes into going to the dentist. Everyone I've interacted with in the office has been polite, cheerful, and professional. Sign in/take back is quick and every charge is discussed beforehand so there are no surprises. I've been going to TLC for 10 years with no issues but I have to say that the past couple of years things have changed to the point I won't be going back. The level of care has declined significantly. I called them because I had excruciating pain in one tooth (first time ever) and needed to get in to see what was wrong. This was on a Thursday and the soonest they could get me in was Tuesday of the following week. This made no sense to me when I'm in pain. Had a horrible 5 days hurting. When I got there on Tuesday they tell me I'm there for a cleaning. WHAT? They seemed to have missed the part about pain. Got in the chair and told the girl which tooth was hurting....which was on the bottom. The hygienist came in and said oh I see you have a sore tooth on the top. Geez! I had been telling them something was not right with that tooth for a year and they kept telling me "it's fine". After visiting a specialist I now either need a root canal or extraction. He said tooth had been cracked for a long time. So for 3 visits TLC thought everything was fine. This is completely unacceptable. If you value your teeth beware of this dental practice. read more

Just had my second visit where they did the "deep" cleaning. My fault, moved from out of state and waited too long to find a dentist. I will be regular now that I'm at Dental TLC. The experience is fantastic. Great atmosphere. While big not a factory and I would put them on the customer service level of a Chick-fil-a or American Express, excellent. I can't say I've ever been to a dentist office that cares as much about your experience as here. From the gratuitousness to the care about your comfort, great job! This morning during my brief stay in the waiting area I heard the reception person take a call. I thought, "Great job, really went out of her way to help". While I thought she did great, shortly thereafter her co-worker slide over and quietly and appropriately gave her feedback that included how she can make it an even better experience. Well done and demonstrates their focus on the client. I may be a little overboard but let's face it, no one really "loves" going to the dentist. Three appointments to complete an annual cleaning was too much for my liking. First appointment- they take xrays and recommend a cleaning that is not covered by insurance. The proposed plan was to wait 4-6 waits to hear from insurance, hopefully do the more in depth cleaning on the second appointment and then go back 8 weeks later for a third appointment to see how things look and estimate how soon I should go back for a regular cleaning. Let me acknowledge that they give you the option to pay out of pocket for the $200 cleaning but I did not want to pay out of pocket. It had only been 1 year since my last cleaning so I'll go back to my regular dentist [a little farther away] and get a normal cleaning covered by insurance in the first appointment. read more

Care wise they were efficient and nice. However, I called twice before my initial appointment to make sure they A: took my insurance and B: were in my network. They assured me they were in my network and that there would be no cost. About 3 weeks later I received a bill for $100. Turns out they aren't in my network. While disappointed I assumed that since they had such stellar reviews and it was pretty obviously a mistake on their part they would at least split the difference. When spoke to a billing representative she had a vocabulary full of oddly placed acronyms to explain away the fact that they'd told me I was in network and would not be charged. The end result is me paying $100 I never would have if they'd done their homework beforehand. I was further unhappy that she didn't once apologize for the mistake and continued to tell me all the reasons it was my fault. read more

I'm a reformed scaredy cat. I'm actually looking forward to my next dental cleaning. The reception area is spacious and comfortable. There's nice tv's, computers for web surfing, a play station, books, and magazines that aren't from 2003. The examination and cleaning rooms themselves are a testament to technology: flat screen tvs on the wall and ceiling [and they give you the remote!], complimentary laughing gas, a flat screen projection of your xrays. The staff was friendly and encouraging. Nary a disapproving glance or condescending speech. I felt comfortable and in good, gloved hands. My teeth rejoice. read more

I've been terrified of the dentist my entire life, but I knew I needed to get my teeth cleaned, so after reading all the good reviews on Yelp, I tried out Dental TLC. Now I can't imagine going anywhere else! 1.) I told the Dental TLC staff that I was nervous, and they were all SO kind and patient with me. Other offices have treated me like I was just an annoying baby; Dental TLC was compassionate and understanding. Everyone from the Xray tech to the hygienist walked me through each step of the process. 2.) I'd been told by another dentist that I needed very expensive deep cleanings. Dental TLC told me I did NOT need these treatments! They gave me a basic cleaning, and saved me hundreds of dollars! 3.) Every single person I encountered at Dental TLC was friendly and knew their job. My questions were answered honestly and succinctly. 4.) For my partner's more extensive treatments, Dental TLC walked us through our payment options, and helped us maximize our insurance benefits. I really can't say enough good things about them! I've grown so accustomed to lackluster customer service; encountering a business like Dental TLC was a breath of fresh air! YAY! September 2016 UPDATE: Dental TLC quit taking my insurance last year, so I've been dentist-shopping! I'm SO sad because they are seriously the best I've ever experienced. Fun dentistry. Wait...are we in a parallel universe? There is no way that the word "fun" can be used in association with "dentistry". But Dental TLC has gone and done the impossible. As soon as I walked in and saw that they label their exam rooms with little street signs with names like "Tender Trail," I knew that I was in for a different kind of dental experience. The female staff member greeted me warmly as she handed me my paperwork. I settled into the comfy waiting room chair and got a bit distracted by all of the fun stuff around me - dozens of different magazines, TVs airing the latest news, and even Internet stations for patients to surf the web while waiting. I was called back in a timely manner and ushered into an exam room with two television screens elevated above me - one for the television programming of my choice, and the other for viewing up close and personal shots of my teeth and x-rays. I excitedly surfed the channels to find that E! was showing a "Ladies Who Lunch Marathon" jam packed with back to back Sex and the City. Done. The dental assistant (I think her name was Ashley) politely asked me if I would like some free laughing gas. Does Kel love orange soda? Absolutely yes. Let me tell you - Sex and the City is much more profound when laughing gas is involved. My hygienist, Rogel, did a great job of keeping me informed of her findings as she cleaned and examined my teeth. She used the handy dandy camera and television screen to show me where there was some gum recession. This visual approach is extremely valuable in a good dentist - it's nice to actually see the reasoning behind treatment recommendations as opposed to just being told that you need to cough up $200 for a random procedure. I don't recall the name of the dentist, but she was sweet and friendly with a charming Southern accent. She politely gave me some tips about brushing to reduce the gum graft, and complimented the overall condition of my teeth. She recommended a filling touch up, but didn't scare tactic me into having it done immediately. The dental assistant came back in to close out the process and hand me a sweet water bottle filled with dental swag (tooth brush, floss, tooth paste, pen). This has just been a horrible experience from the start! I started seeing this dentist due to the fact that I have had 3 jaw surgeries for TMJ. Since then, it has been painful every time I have gone to the dentist. I found this dentist online and started seeing them as they do provide sedation. I had a teeth cleaning and thought that they were a bit pricy and they were recommending procedures I did not think were necessary.Overall, it was not a bad experience though I did understand that there was an area of my mouth however, that needed a root canal and crown. I started out over a week ago having tooth pain. I called the office in hopes of making an appointment to have the root canal that they recommended completed. The receptionist called me in pain medicine because they were not going to be able to complete the work until the following Tuesday (I had called on a Wednesday). I was a bit perturbed that I was going to have to wait 6 days for something that was hurting so bad but was grateful they had called in the medicine and was going to schedule me for the procedure. I then called back to get all the details about my procedure on Tuesday and financial options. They then told me, the day before my procedure, that I was just scheduled for a "consultation" and that they were going to try to fit me in for the root canal but could make no promises. Of course, this is after I have scheduled the time off of work. I then inquired as to the financial obligations that would be required at the time of service. The receptionist advised me that my coinsurance was 80% and that I would be responsible for any charges over what my insurance didn't cover (which did not answer the question.) I then asked how much I would need to pay when I came to have the procedure. She stated that she didn't know because different types of root canals, depending on where they were in the mouth, and the severity of them, cost different amounts. I was a bit frustrated that I was expected to come in, have a procedure that I didn't know how much was going to cost until the time I get there, and then pay it at that same time. I was a bit frustrated by this call. I then called later that day to ask if I had to bring someone with me because I was going to be sedated. I asked AGAIN about the cost. I was then transferred to the "financial advisor". She would not answer direct questions, used evasive answers, and finally told me that I needed to bring $695.00 to the appointment tomorrow and if unable to pay in full, I would need to reschedule my procedure. She then advertised credit card services through Chase Financial! When I had my first cleaning with them, I paid in full. I do not have a history with them of not paying. They were completely unprofessional and I would not recommend them to anyone, especially after my experience with the "financial advisor/credit card solicitor". read more

The best dentist experience I've had! As a new patient, I was surprised I could be see within a week for an old filling that had come out. They took X-rays as part of a focused examination, and one of their dentists suggested that a crown and root canal was probably the best course of action. I was able to get that scheduled within a few weeks as well. I attribute this convenience to the fact that it's such a large facility with many staff members. My two part procedure was super smooth. The first appointment took about 2 hours, but it flew by in my mind because I asked for the laughing gas. I was relaxed, almost dozing off, somewhat paying attention to the TV on the ceiling, somewhat listening to Dr. Patel and Jennifer work. After grinding my tooth down and putting on a temporary crown, I was done! The numbing worked well, as I definitely felt it the day after once it wore off. They also give you headphones to block out the noisy drill. Second appointment was in and out in about 30 minutes. The whole time, all the staff members were courteous and friendly, without coming off as fake. When I had a minor insurance issue, they addressed it on the spot. Really can't praise them enough. I'll definitely go back to them for routine care and extra surprises that pop up. Just as an FYI, and it'll depend on your insurance. My root canal and crown out of pocket would be over $2,000. Insurance dropped it down to $900, and my HSA card brought the total hit on my wallet to a very managable $300. read more

This place is really almost a joke. Well, it would be if it wasn't so pitiful and potentially expensive for the near blunders I've avoided here. My first visit was decent, not spectacular in any way - but it got the job of a cleaning done. The trouble is they told me I had several cavities that needed filling and to set up a time for the future. They even printed out the cost of doing each filling. Imagine my surprise when I came back in and the person who looked me over informed me I had no cavities and didn't know why they would tell me to come in for fillings. Damn. How do you employ ANYONE who could make a mistake like that? I was at least glad the person was ethical enough not to do the unnecessary job and charge me anyway. I gave them a second chance for another cleaning. About a year had gone by since my last visit here and because it had been a year, they told me they were going to charge me $150 extra because they would have to 'clean the gumline more'. Again, damn. And WHAT?? I take extremely good care of my teeth and knew my buildup wasn't that bad. So I literally said 'no thanks', got up and left. I went to a different dentist who charged me a very low intro fee and did a thorough job. I asked if I had excessive tartar, etc. to see if TLC was right about the claim I needed extra cleaning and the new dentist said my teeth actually looked great and they had never heard of charging extra for a certain amount of plaque/tartar. Sorry TLC - I won't be back to see what you might mess up with or try to overcharge me on next! ;) *PS - This is an off topic comment, but their stairway going up into the place feels oddly steep and a little treacherous. I have good footing, but I can't imagine trying to navigate these steps with high heels on! read more

Let me start off by saying just how much I HATE going to the dentist.. lets face it, I am one of those the dentists love to see coming.. I basically have a Porsche in my mouth.. Yeah, I have crappy teeth, thanks dad. Anyway. so I made my appointment here for the first time this week.. First thing, the girl that answered the phone knew the answers to all my questions and was able to get me set up quickly. Next, I was emailed forms to fill out so I didn't have to do that in the waiting room.. So I get there today, everyone was super friendly, they have computers and tvs in the waiting room along with lots of other bright things to look at.. Once i make it back to the room, they tell me about the free laughing gas.. who doesn't like to get a little gased over lunch break right? They have a tv for you to watch while you are sitting up, one on the ceiling, massage chairs, headphones that you can listen to the radio or bring in your own music! What didn't they think of.. it seemed like they really were trying to make you feel comfy. The staff was great, and I love how everything was so high tech. Yall. I've hated going to the dentist my entire life. The anxiety would keep me up the night before, and I'd be all in a knot during my time there-- fearful of every poke and prod. I'm amazed to say that after my appointment today, I can't wait to go back and get my teeth cleaned again! The devil is in details-- this place is large, inviting, gives you blankets, direct TV (two, with one on the ceiling for when you recline), and has clever decor throughout. The check in process, even for a new patient, was fast and computerized. I had a 7:30am appointment and was out the door at 8:30am-- even with my new patient paperwork and xrays! At first I was skeptical of two things: the location and the laughing gas. First of all, the location is strange, tucked away near a uhaul place, construction, and some random run-down seeming shops. Don't be fooled! You open the front door and are transported. Second, the free laughing gas is amazing. It soothed me immediately (they'll adjust it based on your sensitivity) and before I knew it, I was done with my cleaning. NO anxiety. Don't let your fear keep you from being healthy. I came here for a consultation and it was the best dental experience I've ever had (I never thought I'd even have a best dental experience until now). Everyone was super friendly. The check in process was on a computer, which made it quick and painless (no one likes paperwork). I did have to wait a while to be examined, but I was distracted by the two TV screens in the exam room (one in front of the chair and one on the ceiling for when they lean you back). The husband was not impressed that I decided we should all go to a dentist nowhere near where we live but I'm willing to travel for good service. And to be fair, it's not THAT far. And anyway, I think he just didn't want to go to the dentist since it's literally 10 minutes from his job (men!). All three of us (myself, my daughter and husband) have nothing but great things to say about this place. They are always so pleasant, they let you know exactly what they are doing and why. If you need treatment they will explain fully. They will also let you know the costs up front. My favourite is when my insurance covers everything (obviously), however, we have had services that we've paid for. not my favourite. I love the email reminders too. I love coming here mainly for the FREE laughing gas. Thankfully i'm not of of those people terrified of the dentist. I have A LOT of dental problems(i know you can't tell. beauty is pain after all) unfortunately for my pockets so i have to frequent this place several times a year for surgical procedures and follow ups. The staff is friendly and check in is now easy breezy on the computers with the electronic signature pad thingy. The wait time is also now considerably much shorter compared to a few years ago. I like that they are a one-stop-shop unlike other dentists where i have to go to a different office for different procedures. Only drawback is that they are a bit pricey(even after good ins.) and they don't offer payment arrangements. Ever look FORWARD to going to the dentist? I can't say enough good things about Dental TLC. Every dentist is at the top of his/her game here. The entire staff is professional, friendly and attentive. They've got everything streamlined from phone/online appt verifications to the visit itself. They have 2 computers with internet in their waiting room, but you'll hardly sit long enough to be able to use them. They have top equipment and the staff from the front desk to the densits are all best-versed in the all most recent procedures and devices. The hygentists do an amazing job; my teeth have never been so clean! The doctors are very laid back and warm, and I always enjoy a laugh with them. Their assistants are also the most professional and capable that I've experienced. Don't be surprised to enjoy a massage chair and free sedation gas to make your appointment more comfortable (I admit this is a huge plus). They even have TVs in the ceiling and headphones to distract you from a procedure. I called with a question after my visit one morning and Dr. Bens picked up after only 30 seconds on hold to tend to my call. All this, plus they're affordable. I had to call in a procedure to my insurance and she remarked that their prices were well below the alloted price for all procedures. I never feel that they're recommending work that isn't necessary, or doing patch-ups. Where I've gotten second dental opinions in the past or questioned motivations, that will never be the case with me and TLC. Dr. Bens will always offer me honest options and I follow his advice without hesitation. All this on top of an experience that I can honestly say I look forward to - now that's not something I've ever heard about a dentist before. I was looking for a new dentist, desiring a move away from the dental clinic behemoth I'd gone to in the past. Dental TLC was already on my radar when I experienced a dental emergency requiring immediate attention. Even though I was a new patient, they got me in that same day. Score one for Dental TLC. Their web site is a little chirpy, claiming to be Atlanta's fun dentist. I've never used fun and dentist in the same sentence before, but they make dental work sound like a trip to Six Flags, just one big fun day at the amusement park! And you know what, while I wouldn't call it fun, they deliver a pretty terrific experience. Top to bottom, everyone is customer service oriented, explaining what's going on, creating a dental plan for you, showing why a procedure is necessary, what needs to be done now and what can wait, all delivered with tons of reassurance. It's an experience that has me driving OTP from downtown. Yes, that good. I stumbled across another rating website and even with over 375 reviews they maintain a solid 5 star rating. Yes, that good. I cannot recommend this place enough. Due to finances and fear, my grill was in not-good shape when I came in around late '06. However, the staff could not have been more understanding and helpful. They fixed me up, made me feel good about myself and did it with no condescending attitudes, unlike some "professionals". They indeed have TVs, magazines and books, and even a Playstation for the kids, or kid in you. I really am sorry I moved so that I couldn't go here anymore. I just took my 3 1/2 year old there for his first ever dentist appointment and they were just as wonderful with him as they are with me and my husband! Dr. David McNey was very nice and engaged in an appropriate level of chit-chat for dental work (you know the deal: don't ask me elaborate questions with cotton in my mouth!) They spend $20 in nitrous oxide but reap $10,000 in free advertising because it's less painful on their patients. All in all, it was a nicer experience than one typically associates with "dentist," so I recommend them. read more
