I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Dental Town DC, specifically due to their billing and office management, which ultimately led me to stop care with this practice altogether. I was dealing with illness and contacted the office in advance regarding my appointment. Despite notifying them before the appointment time, I was later told I would be charged a $150 "cancellation/no-show" fee -- even though I did not fail to show and explicitly communicated that I could not attend due to being sick. The interaction with the billing/office manager, Michelle, was especially troubling. Instead of addressing the situation professionally or with empathy, the communication was rude, dismissive, and focused entirely on collecting money, rather than on patient care or fairness. There was no effort to acknowledge that I gave notice or to work toward a reasonable resolution. What's most frustrating is that this situation could have been handled easily and professionally. I had been a loyal patient of Dr. V for decades--he was truly exceptional. Before retiring, he let his patients know and offered the option to continue care with his office partner. I agreed. Unfortunately, that experience was disappointing from the start, and it only worsened after the practice was quietly sold to Dental Town. No notice was given to patients, but I sensed something was off the moment I walked in--the welcoming atmosphere was gone, and the tasteful art in the waiting area had been replaced with what looked like marked-down pieces from Home Goods. Admit, that was funny. :) Then came the new dentist: awkward, painfully dry, with no bedside manner and zero personality. He made me feel uncomfortable from the moment he entered the room. This place is a hot mess. I was a patient for 2+ years, and each time I went in, the doctors would change, with constant instability. The (each time new) hygienists and doctors were nice and had no issues with cleaning. Billing was meh, as at least once I got a surprise bill on x-rays (they didn't estimate out of pocket correctly) and once they tried to charge for the cleaning, even though insurance covered it. I eventually switched practices. It has come back from the dead. I just got a notification today charging me for a service from 2023, in 2025. This is the first time I'm hearing of any outstanding balance. No text, email, comms (other than cleaning reminders) until today. read more

The dental assistants and hygienists are friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough, and I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. SMAIYRA CHAUDHARY. I am very anxious and fearful about dental services and, after being uninsured for some time had a lot of work to get done. All three of my appointments (cleaning and two rounds of fillings) were excellent. Dr. C walked me through everything that was happening--what they were doing and why, what they were checking for, what I should and should not be feeling, where we were in the process from a timing perspective, and so forth. I felt confident, reassured, and pain-free the whole time. The office is also very easy to get ahold of, you'll always get a real person on the line with little to no hold time. read more

After calling ahead of time to ensure and clarify I would be seen by a female provider (I have diagnosed PTSD) I was still scheduled to be seen by a male provider. When I arrived, I again clarified, and they neglected to tell me an error had been made until halfway (30 minutes) through the appointment. I was told I could "be seen by a male provider for the exam or come back another day". I asked how this could have happened since I called a few times to double check. I was told that the information about my condition was in my file and I "had done everything I could to prevent this". The dental hygienist said "there must have been a last minute switch or something", then, with profound condescension, told me that "Everyone needs a job you know. Everyone has to work." as if I hadn't taken PTO to go to a 3pm dental appointment, or perhaps didn't understand how employment worked. At no point did I imply the opposite, or claim that men shouldn't be dentists, that would be absurd. I simply can't see male medical providers, something that has not been an issue with any of my other providers or practices. The complete disregard for patients/clients with pre-existing medical conditions is obviously very disappointing, up until their location change I had enjoyed the care I received here. Chelsea the receptionist is so rude! The doctor was nice but I truly felt like she was pushing more work than needed. I also paid all my balances there in the office at my appointment, only for three months later then to tell me I owe $500+. I called my insurance to confirm and they said the remaining balance was x. As I go through my bank statements, I realize the "remaining" balance is what I already paid in the office and for some reason that wasn't recorded. They've called and emailed several times asking for payment, when I've already paid. I'm never on the side of insurance but they were completely right as my bank statements show. I also needed twilight dentistry for some work to be done because this place couldn't accommodate being put under for some procedures. I had an extremely traumatic experience twice there, just for deep cleaning (so they knew how bad it was for me given the bizarre open floor plan), and when the doctor told me to look for twilight dentistry, I asked for a recommendation or reference to a dentist that does do it in the area. She said she didn't have one but just to google it...yeah duh? Like I'm asking you as an expert in this field who works in this area. I'll never go back here. read more

I literally got a yelp just to review this place. I went to Dental Town for a cleaning/check up a few months ago. They took x-rays, pictures, and the doctor looked at my teeth. The doctor told me I had 8 cavities, needed a root canal, and a new crown. They pointed all of the issues out on my x-rays, so I believed them. When I went to check out, the receptionist explained that my insurance would not cover any of the procedures (despite saying that it would when I initially scheduled my appt), and she pressured me to pay for all of the procedures up front. When I explained I didn't have $6,000 to pay for everything they pressured me into signing up for a credit card program! That raised a HUGE red flag. I left Dental Town and went to a different dentist two days later for a second opinion. The new dentist (DC Pearls) said I had 1 cavity. I had Dental Town send DC Pearls my x-rays and the DC Pearls doctor was like uh these literally aren't your teeth...Dental Town showed me x-rays of some random person who actually had 8 cavities, in an effort to convince me to give them my money. Dental Town DC is a total scam, don't go there. Highly recommend DC Pearls in Georgetown (my new dentist) he is amazing and super honest. read more

No sense of urgency, multiple emails, and for phone calls just this morning. Today is February 2023. make it make sense. I have previously reviewed this dentist and it seems like they have made a new yelp since my previous review so now it is not showing. This place is fraudulent, told me I had many cavities when a second opinion said I had 1. Then seeing as my insurance wouldn't cover a second round of X-rays I asked them to send them to me and they sent me the WRONG X-rays. They had the wrong X-rays on file for me and were making decisions and submitting things to my insurance off of a man with a permanent retainers and root canals X-rays (the next dentist i went to told me this) Now, more than almost 2 years later and 5k in fraudulent insurance claims they have the audacity to email me saying they are going paperless and that I owe them $400+. I hope that this place is under new management now, but I am so appalled that they still have me on their mailing list let alone are asking me for money. !!!!!AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!! The short of this story is Dental Town DC is just after your money. Don't be tricked by their seemingly friendly service or nice office. In one visit, Dental Town DC tried to charge me $608 with what should have cost me $29. In this visit, they attempted to extract money from me and my insurance company through three situations. (1) For context, a couple of months ago, I had gone to a trusted dentist from my hometown while visiting my parents. I received a cleaning and they found a cavity but couldn't fit me in for a filling before I returned to DC. When I went to get this filling at Dental Town DC, they claimed I had 4 cavities and needed a nightguard. I know based on what my trusted dentist said that this is clearly unnecessary dental work. (2) When Dental Town DC gave me the estimates on the cost of the fillings, the amount I would pay versus the insurance did not match my insurance policy (they said the insurance would pay 64% when it should be 90% which I confirmed with the insurance company). They wouldn't give me the filling before I payed my portion. They promised the estimate would only underestimate my payment and they would bill me what is left. This clearly is not the case (they were trying to overcharge me by ~$75 per filling). Dental Town DC is either giving massive refunds to all their patients for overcharging (which they claim they don't do) or they are pocketing the extra money. I walked out without the filling. (3) When I scheduled the appointment, I made it clear I only needed the cavity filled. When I got there, I filled out the intake forms indicating I had received x-rays a couple of months ago. They gave me x-rays and then immediately after asked when my last x-ray was (even though it was in the paperwork). They told me the insurance wouldn't cover it since I had just had one and that I would need to pay out of pocket immediately. They refused to file a claim and only did after I had my insurance company call on my behalf. Not only was this a money grab, it is also bad medically to put someone through unnecessary radiation. The only thing this so called "Best Dentist DC" is best at is misleading their patients. read more

My wife had nice things to say about this place, and they seemed to be priced reasonably. That being said, they clearly do not clean or maintain hygiene appropriately because my wife immediately got sick after coming from there, and consequently I got sick. Do not go here! I got Invisalign through them and had a TERRIBLE experience. For my Invisalign aligners they missed a tooth on it! All of my aligners were made with a tooth missing from it! When I brought it up they were completely dismissive of me and would not remake the aligners. I had to ask multiple times before the aligners were remade. The new aligners that were made, did not fit my teeth and again my concerns were dismissed. I had to switch providers to finish my Invisalign treatment. The dental hygienist, who was kind and apologetic, popped off a crown during my rather aggressive cleaning, I almost swallowed it right there in the chair. I hacked it up and they put it in a bag for me. It was very distressing and I was really shook up. The dentist was pretty dismissive and simply gave me referral sheet for an endodontist down the street. I did not understand what the plan was to fix the situation. I went in my car and cried, then called the endodontist. Thank goodness he could see me immediately. He sent a report to the dentist right after he saw me with his recommendations. The dentist never reached out to me, I still haven't heard a thing from her and I still have a hole in my mouth. read more

*NOT A DENTIST FOR YOUR MONEY'S WORTH* I got a new job with brand new dental insurance. I went to Dental Town DC for the first time at the beginning of September just for cleaning. They require patients to do X-ray before any procedure is done, so I followed through. Dr. Shenasi looked at the X-ray and said she was concerned about one of my teeth and persuaded me to get a root canal done for that teeth first since she told me teeth-cleaning might cause more pain/discomfort on it. I trusted her and went to the endodontist that SHE REFERRED to get the root canal done and then scheduled to come back later for her to do the crown. So I went to the endodontist a week later. Turned out the endodontist was not even concerned about the teeth Dr. Shenasi referred but the one behind it. I was like well, they were already charging $300+ for the 3D X-ray even if I don't go for the endo treatment, I might as well pay $600 to get it done. (These charges were calculated AFTER using my insurance.) The next day right before I went to Dental Town DC for the crown, I got a text message from them saying that my insurance wasn't enough to cover the crown. I thought they could have told me or just a simple reminder that two treatments combined might max out my insurance allowance. I went to the office and talked to them about it and *all Dr. Shenasi did was blaming on me that I haven't been keeping track of how much insurance money I had left*. Well, SHE NEVER SAID HOW MUCH HER CROWN TREATMENT WOULD COST from the beginning. I had a root canal and crown down elsewhere before and it wasn't that expensive: the price Dr. Shenasi wrote down to me i.e. $765 is more than double, almost triple the amount I paid for my previous crown. What's more ridiculous is THIS PRICE SHE GAVE WAS AFTER INSURANCE'S FULL COVERAGE WHICH I ALREADY DIDN'T HAVE BECAUSE OF THE EXPENSIVE ROOT CANAL DR SHE REFERRED. So I guess she expected me to pay over $1K since my insurance was going to be maxed out by her. I left, never came back, AND NEVER WILL. In my opinion, Dr. Shenasi was more interested in maxing out people's dental insurance money than being a dentist. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY SHE WORKS FOR MONEY & NOT FOR YOUR TEETH!! I get her pressure to make as much money as possible in an expensive capital city that is DC, *but have you ever seen a provider selling you a service without telling you the cost until the last minute before the procedure???* This is the kind of that act passively FORCES people to pay overpriced medical treatment since they may not have a backup plan with sudden news like that and/or they may need to get it done soon. The root canal and crown must go hand-in-hand in a timely fashion, so where TH was I supposed to go after I got the root canal done but wasn't able to get covered for the crown? DID SHE EXPECT ME TO REALLY PAY WITHOUT USING INSURANCE?? Dental Town DC is part of the problem that people in America go bankrupt from their medical bills. Their greed clouds their way of doing business. They think that they can just max out people's dental insurance to make their lion share revenue. *A doctor who doesn't care about their patients' ability to pay IS NEVER A GOOD DOCTOR no matter how good she is. Period.* On a side note, Dr. Shenasi also told me all my cavity fillings were old and needed to be redone by her. Thank god I DID NOT TRUST HER on this one! read more

Then, I was 10 minutes late for my second appointment because there was traffic due to snow and the same receptionist made me reschedule because the staff in the office wanted to go home early. I feel like five stars isn't even enough to give this practice. I would give it an infinite amount of stars if it was humanly possible. I had a dental emergency and Dr. Shenasi not only did a consult with me during a holiday weekend she was able to squeeze me in during the week and schedule me for surgery in less than two weeks. I am incredibly appreciative to her and her staff. The office is beautiful, the taste in decor is impeccable and the wait time is virtually nonexistent. Even though I live 45 minutes away I will still come back to this practice. If you're looking for a dentist especially one that is compassionate, caring and has an amazing bedside manner you should start and end here. I will recommend this place to all of my friends. She knew I was nervous about the procedure I had to get so she gave me her cell phone number in case I had any questions or needed to reach her.
