Walked in for the first time yesterday and was extremely lucky to have Billy manage my cut! Typically the guys operate primarily by appt only and you get the newer barbers if you simply walk in. A really nice guy, gives you exactly the style you want - in fact, quite the perfectionist (but not so much that it's annoying!). Cheap haircut ($16 plus I added a well deserved $4 tip) and excellent service. The barbers are incredibly friendly; it might not be the fastest haircut but that is only because they are intent on making conversation and making you feel at home, as well as paying attention to detail and making sure you are satisfied with their work. I used to have my haircut here. I gave the place a good rating only because Cindy used to work here. Now she works at Fast Phil's-my new barbershop-check them out, they're awesome! They're on Mass. Ave and it's not just a haircut, it's and experience. I will still give credit to Dente's because I never had a problem there, but Cindy's will be cutting my hair till she retires or one of us moves. She's the best. Try her out at Fast Phil's in North Cambridge.. Oh yeah, make sure to tip her well because she's real cool and down to earth and makes the time in the chair fly by. Besides, she isn't your typical ex-military overly-republican barber like I seem to find in a lot of places. I just went the other day and I had another awesome experience!!! One of the worse haircuts ever - rushing to get me out the door? I speak for myself and my barber(ess) only. I saw other guys' hair get babied for 30+ minutes. Mine took 5-10 minutes max. Several times, my barber went to lock the door to prevent more people from coming in. She was clearly more concerned about leaving than about me. I cry out for Mr. Alibrandi up the street, who unexpectedly closed this week for vacation. So, I felt lucky and yelped two highly rated places down the road: Ann Marie and Dente. I chose wrong. I think my barber forget which side my part was on. It was clear when I came in...but then she totally combed it the other way. Must be an advanced technique I thought. But then she asked, "which side is your part on?" I told her which side...and this is the part I'm not sure about - but I think she had cut the wrong side. Because my hair was cut SYMMETRICAL, like a letter V. And then she said, Oh good, no overhang. What?? I am not 100% sure, but I think she cut the wrong side. Mr. Alibrandi never did this. Now my hair looks wretched...if my face looked like Brad Pitt I wouldn't worry, I don't, so Dente's gets -2 stars for bad hair, plus -1 star for a LONG WAIT (ironically, other guys were getting lots of attention), and -1 star for price (50% more expensive than Alibrandi and almost twice Fast Phil's. read more

I have been going to Dente's for about 2 years now. The barbers are excellent and courteous, and the quality of my haircut is great. For around $15, you honestly can't get a better bargain in the area. Compared with other places i used to get my haircut in the same price range (think Supercuts), the quality is far beyond my previous hairdressers/barbers. read more

You can't beat Dente's -- they're conveniently located, well staffed (I've never seen fewer than three guys in at a time, up to six on Friday/Saturday), family-owned, affordable ($18 before tip), and they take good care of you. There's something to be said for the hot lather and straight edge at the end of a haircut. I've had 3 or 4 different guys give me a trim and been happy with all of them. This place is over rated. They are lucky there are't any decent barbershops in Davis Sq. who charge sub $25 for a haircut. If you get one of the awkward twins to cut your hair, you are lucky. They are good. But I don't think they cut hairs without appointments anymore. They would rather chill out and let the walk ins wait. Other barbers ? i would give two stars. Not worth $19 they charge you. And if you happen to get the old lady (twins mom), RUN before she even touches your hair. If another customer is waiting, she would run the machine through your hair and she is done in FIVE minutes, with missed spots everywhere. If she is so desperate for money, just put a donation box. I would rather donate $19 than paying someone to ruin my hair. This place used to be good, but sadly not anymore. Highly unprofessional and average barbers (for walkins). I would rather spend $6 more (upwards of $25) and go to salons. read more

This would be a five star place, if only they didn't carry bad barbers. There are four great barbers here, the caveat being you have to wait in line for them. If you don't wait for them, and awkwardly announce that you will wait, then you are thrown to the wolves. The bad barbers here literally chop all your hair off because it's all they know how to do, and do it badly. I smelled weed on one guy's fingers as he was feverishly yanking my hair out then cutting it slowly and unevenly which led to a complete butchery. I asked one kid take a half inch off the top, I ended up with military style crew cut after he couldn't stop himself from cutting and cutting and cutting. So, I've walked out of here with great haircuts and I've walked out with utterly terrible haircuts. The price point is nice, but at this point, I can't gamble anymore. If you want to take the time to know who the good ones are, and then wait in line for them, then by all means this place is for you. read more

I came to Dante's as a walk in, and they sat me down for one hour as the one guy ahead of me had one of the longest haircuts I have ever seen. They looked passionate and seemed careful when cutting the hair. Eventually after another walk in got to go ahead of me, a female barber sat me down and asked what I wanted. I told her a little of the sides, but she interrupted me and just started yanking at my hair. She sprayed water in my eyes and continued to mess up my hairline until I nearly became bald. It was done in two minutes and my hair was butchered. She then asked me if I liked it and I said no. But she simply shrugged it off and charged 18 dollars. to top it off she wasn't even allowed to use a razor and had to use an electronic one. She was still able to cut me even with a machine that was supposed to prevent that. I was extremely upset, but she had already gone for a smoke break so I swallowed my pride and the hair that got in my mouth. read more
