I discovered Dentplant and Dr. Brendan in Somerville about 10 years ago And I am very glad that I did. Through the years they have taken good care of my teeth. I only regret that I did not take better care of them myself when I was younger. Some of the things they have done for me: cleanings , cavity repair, tooth restoration, crowns and dental implants. This will teach me to check the age of reviews before going somewhere. They ran over half an hour late first thing in the morning, and the technician who did my intake hadn't read any of the forms I filled out beforehand. That meant that I had to waste *more* time going through my history. Worryingly, the technician initially misrecorded multiple of my medications in dosage and name, not great for medical records. Zero signs of PPE in the office, none of the equipment was wrapped in plastic (dangerous since they were exposing myself and others to bodily fluids when taking X-rays in this way) and the 20 year-old X-ray machine looked especially poorly maintained. Left my skin tingling. Speaking of which, I had to pay +$100 for X-rays that were in no way necessary to what I was there for, I guess just padding the bill? The doctor himself was...fine, I guess. Wore his mask below his nose and told me nothing that I didn't already know about my condition. I will say he did provide me a pretty accurate estimate of how much my potential surgery would cost-except my insurance provider then gave me a different number that was almost $1,000 cheaper! Don't walk, run away from this office. Pretty bummed out because I think they provide care to underserved communities and I wish the standards were higher. read more

I come here to do my regular cleaning and my cavity filled. Got a deep cleaning done by Linh, and it was amazing. She also does all my regular cleaning. She's very thorough. Dr. Tran does my filling and is friendly and funny!! I'm so glad cause I can't stand dentist who doesn't talk (makes the whole process more unbearable ) Dr. Tran and his assistant together are hilarious duo. Usually I don't care to leave a feed back about my dental office, but I do enjoy coming here and the parking is pretty easy, I never had a problem parking in their small parking lot. read more

I scheduled a consultation to get my wisdom teeth removed. On my visit, I let them know I had x-rays taken during a routine tooth cleaning just a few weeks before and requested they have the other office send them over. Instead, their assistant told me that wasn't necessary and took half an hour making me bite into uncomfortable hard plastic to take x-rays all over my mouth, frequently deciding that it wasn't quite right and taking another. Other reviews mention how uncomfortable that x-ray process was. Then, the dentist walked in and requested they do a pano instead, after having me go through all that. Again, none of this was necessary since I had recent x-rays, including a pano, to show them, but they would rather ring up the bill as much as possible than working with the patient's thoughts on their own care. They quoted the surgery + insurance as about $350 on my part. After an an embarrassing pre-surgery conversation with the front desk where their famously arrogant secretary overquoted me by $600 and didn't know what anesthetic was being used on me today, the surgery began with eight shots to the face which numbed my pain. Of the two people working on my mouth during the surgery, their office manager, Filipe, had wonderful bedside manner, while the owner, Dr. Brendan McLaughlin, laughed at me when I asked him if he had any advice before the surgery began. The surgery itself was a sensory nightmare, but I got through it, despite the unprofessional choice of Dr. McLaughlin to pause to answer his phone (why would you have your ringer on during surgery?) which I can only assume was for some threat of emergency. Meanwhile, my partner, who was waiting for me to finish in the lobby, had to ask the same secretary to wear her mask - a ridiculous thing to have to ask a medical worker during a pandemic. When she did put one on, she just put it on over her mouth and not her nose. You would think that she would, being in a place where people routinely have to take their masks off and expose workers to the threat of corona, want to be extra-cautious, but instead chose carelessness, the theme of this business. After it was over, Brendan left the room immediately and told Filipe to finish up, again electing to do absolutely none of the emotional work of being a doctor, leaving that to his staff if they so chose. Filipe was again much kinder and more generous with his attention to how I was feeling, giving me time to ask questions and thank him. Whatever they're paying him is too little. Day three I woke up at 3 in the morning in some of the worst pain I've experienced. Based on my own research, I assumed the obvious diagnosis was dry socket since the pain was severe, the first two days had some pain but nothing like this, and from others' accounts, there was no reason to suspect this was normal pain. When I called their office the next day, I expressed that I could not bear how much pain I was in and needed to be seen for a follow-up. I avoided diagnosing myself, but I did not expect to be told by the secretary that I didn't need to be seen and that my pain is normal. That is not her opinion to make! She is not a doctor, didn't even know what kind of anesthetic they used, and can't be bothered to wear a mask during a pandemic, so I valued her medical opinion very little. She repeated my pain was normal while i begged to be seen. She said my doctor wasn't in for two more days. I asked if I could see someone else and she relented, told me to come in at 10. I arrived on time and waited in the waiting room for a half hour before being called, and then waited in the examining room for 45 minutes to be seen. I assume that the secretary, rather than make me an appointment, decided to make me just come in and wait until the doctor had a minute and not tell me that was the plan. I saw Dr. Tran. After a quick check, he said everything looked fine. I asked why my pain then, and he told me that I needed to just endure, that days 3, 4, and 5 are the worst. I went home thinking I was just being oversensitive to what is expected from this surgery. The LAST thing you want to hear from your doctor is that you're just being oversensitive. After a day more of my teeth feeling like they were on fire and my gums feeling like they were being tightened by screws, I was pushed by my family to get a second opinion. I'm grateful I was. I was treated by Dr. Toby Feldman at Commonwealth Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical Associates. She did such bare minimum work as a doctor to help me by not gaslighting the pain I was in. I would also like to thank Dr. Kaushish at Spring Hill Dentistry for getting me the appointment with Dr. Feldman. He was the first dentist I called for a second opinion and even though it was his day off and he wasn't getting paid, he gave me medical advice and spoke to Commonwealth on my behalf to help me secure immediate treatment. That is how you do this job. By caring about the patients. DentPlant does not do this. read more

I got a filling here a little over a year ago that just fell out, and now I may need a root canal. They were also the coldest and most impersonal dentists ive ever had, no one ever told me what was going on with my teeth beyond telling me to book an appt for a filling. I'm surprised at all the good reviews on this page, but I think it's because no one who has been to Dentplant has ever gotten a second opinion from another dentist. These people are very friendly, but what they are doing is criminal and this office should be shut down. I went in for a check up, they told me I had 13 cavities. Having no history of cavities or any discomfort, I should have known better. But I never thought 'medical professionals' could so blatantly lie to your face. They drilled 6 fillings in my mouth, very aggressively and not very carefully, but weren't able to finish everything before I had to switch insurances. I went to another dentist who said he saw 1 small spot, that may develop into a cavity, which Dentplant had not even addressed. I then sent my x-rays to a family friend who is also a dentist and he confirmed that there were no issues where the dentists at Dentplant had drilled. Basically, they are taking advantage of people in this community by doing unnecessary dental work, then billing both patients and insurance for this work. Pretty sure this counts as insurance fraud. Don't go here unless you want to spend all of your money to get your mouth drilled into for no reason. read more

Dr. McLaughlin is a dental surgeon whom I trust with complicated issues. He works quickly, has compassion for his patients, can distract you, and is extremely intelligent. He stays updated with current dental practices, and is passionate about his work. Because he does pretty much everything, I don't think you will get referred out for different parts of what you need done, but I am not 100 percent sure of that. He takes emergency appointments for an extra charge, but I think it is waived if he performs a procedure. Check on that, though. The receptionists at his practice need to learn how to triage over the phone to determine if a patient needs experienced help immediately. He has offices in Somerville (street parking and Framingham. Saturday am hours. Emergency answering service. I know he takes Delta Dental. I do not know about other insurance. read more

The Best Dentist I have ever been too! The staff was friendly and welcoming, from the moment I first walked in the door, until I walked out about 18 month later with a finished product, and every visit in between. I have been to the dentists that make you feel poorly about yourself, and treat you poorly this is not one of those places. I originally went several dentists and was ready to give up feeling worse about myself than before. then I found a system on the internet called "all-on-4" knowing that I needed what teeth were left in my mouth removed and something to replace them with, this sounded like a good option! So I decided to give it one more try and that is when I found Dentplant. I went in trying to be as open minded and upbeat as possible wanting to cry trying not to show it. Deep down I knew this would be just as bad as all the other experiences I had. Before the X-rays were even taken Dr Brendan sat with me we had an open discussion on the current state of my mouth, what I was looking for, other options I needed to consider (apparently all-on-4, not as good as the internet adds sound)... He was the first dentist that actually took the time to listen to what I actually wanted, well really needed done, the process, procedures, finances.. I actually left feeling like hey there is hope I will be able to smile again (and eat steak). So as I indicated above I had a mouth that was in bad shape, since the all on 4 was ruled out as a decent option for a younger guy like myself.. It was worked out that a titanium reinforced prosthetic (fancy term for denture with metal inside for strength) on six (6) implants with a fixed mount is what I was to receive. Last month I received the finished goods affixed in my mouth! through the whole process, the staff was there. The Dr even gave me his cell number before he went on vacation for the holidays, which I ended up calling because I felt like something wasn't right, he opened the office up and brought me in. I have to say that I am surprised that there are so many good reviews on this site. This place is criminal. I went in for my first visit to have my front teeth looked at, as they had been chipped. They told me I had 8 cavities. I was in SHOCK as I couldn't imagine how I could have developed 8 cavities in a 6 month period (I moved dentists to be closer to my house). The dental assistant (with the largest diamond engagement ring I have ever seen) talked to me as if I was a child. I floss 3 times a week (totally could be more, I know), and proceeded to go through how to hold floss, how to push it between teeth, etc. I let her go on, because at the time I thought it was really funny...but this did change later. The dentist came in and said he would set up with my insurance. As I was leaving, the young dental assistant ran out into the lobby, waving a paper saying "you forgot your paper that shows all of your cavities", "take your cavity paper". I still thought this was a little funny and didn't think anything of it. After my 3rd of to-be 6 visits, and laying down almost $500 dollars out of pocket, I decided to get a second opinion. I RECOMMEND THAT WHATEVER THEY TELL YOU- GO GET A 2nd OPINION! The 2nd opinion told me that not only were the upper teeth NOT CAVITIES, but the work that had already been done, had been done in error. NOTHING on my X-Rays showed cavities. I will definitely be going to the BBB and writing a formal complaint. I see that others on here have had almost identical experiences as I have. Don't be put off by Heshi P./Wine lover S reviews. This was clearly the same person with an axe to grind about something other than the fantastic dental experience offered by Dr Brendan and his crew. Having had fillings done by Dr Tran last year I went back to have two old crowns replaced (8 years) and put in a third. I had been going to my uncle (now retired) for my dental work and always thought he was the yardstick for excellence. Dr Brendan changed that with my three crowns. Conscientious, impeccable pain management and more importantly outstanding dental work that, sorry uncle, was the best I had ever had. My visit at DentPlant was nothing less than amazing! They were able to take me in with such short notice! Dr. Tran, assistant Ricardo, and hygienist Linh helped diagnose my pain and did everything they could to fix the problem. Each person was very attentive to my needs and explained the cause of my pain, alternative solutions, and how to care for it in the future. Everyone in the office was super friendly and welcoming! I went to this place because it had fairly good reviews, so naturally, I was surprised when the experience was far less than stellar. On my first visit, the hygienist told me I had two cavities but that the doctor needed to confirm them. When he came in, he confirmed one of them, but determined that the other "stick" the hygienist had gotten was just a naturally occurring deep ridge in my tooth. The hygienist then tried to convince me to get it filled anyway because "it might become a cavity". Excuse me, but since fillings require maintenance throughout the rest of your life, I'm pretty sure I'd never want to fill something that isn't even beginning to decay. I declined treatment on both fillings, because I no longer trusted that I needed either of them. I vowed not to come back to this place, but when one of my fillings became loose, I needed to make an emergency appointment. Since I didn't have time to find a new dentist, I came back here. I had a silver filling before, but the dentist convinced me to do a white one because I "had insurance". Well, my insurance only covered silver ones, which I didn't find out until I got to the desk to pay. I paid the sum I was told to, then I went away, hoping I was done with this place. When I looked at my receipt, I noticed that the total I was charged was ~$10 short of what I appeared to owe, but I assumed it was something related to insurance and didn't think of it again. Well, today, almost 8 months later, I get a bill in the mail for $11.01. I had indeed not been charged the correct amount. Honestly, I am grateful to just pay this final bill and be finished with this place. They may be great for specialty care, but I would never recommend them for routine dental care.
