This zoo was rather larger. I would it would be smaller than the SF zoo but it wasn't. Tons of animals and they most of the major ones people want to see. Including elephants! Overall a pretty cool zoo. read more

This was one of the highlights of our trip! We enjoyed our trip to the zoo thoroughly. We brought a group of 8 and the walkways and exhibits were plenty big enough to accommodate us. The cost was reasonable and we enjoyed buying some refreshments (pizza, soft drinks, and beer - yum!). The concessions were reasonably priced and the photographer offering paid family photos was a fun touch as well. We greatly enjoyed talking to the volunteer outside the lion exhibit and wandering through the inside lizard habitat - pictures added. This place was huge and although we were there for about five hours we didn't even reach more than half the total zoo, this is definitely an all day affair for any avid lovers. There is also many hands on and interactive aspects (including a dam building experiment) that kids can enjoy throughout. The open air concept combined with buildings throughout offered a nice variety of habitats and kept the wandering fun. We look forward to being back in town so we can return! read more

There is still mask and social distancing in forced. We had to make a reservation it books up pretty quick. I love the new set up for the tigers and the elephant passage. A lot of the animals were put away for nap time the staff said. We did go in the afternoon/evening time around 3:30 4pm. It wasn't as busy as I thought which was super nice ! This isn't the first time iv been to this Zoo. Every time I have been here the restrooms have been pretty dirty toilet paper in the floor toilets clogged no paper towels. A lot of the sanitizer threw out the zoo were empty which sucked because kids touch everything. The food at the stands were good. Keep in mind you can bring a backpack with snacks and your own stroller/wagon. Or you can rent one. There was a line for capacity limit for the reptile area. So expect to wait a little line goes by sorta quick. read more

My family and I came here on vacation and anytime we go on vacation we like to check out the local zoos. We were excited to check out the Denver Zoo. When we got there we were disappointed. We went around 11am in the morning and it was already looking busy. Most of the areas we walked by there were no animals to be seen in the enclosures. When we got to some enclosures that actually had animals majority of the animals looked really depressed and sad. It was a depressing experience to be honest. I hope the staff gives them attention and some sore of love. I just felt really bad for majority of the animals. read more

We had the greatest time at this little zoo. We recently just moved to the area and we decided on buying the yearly passes. Definitely worth it, you just have to go twice and your thing is paid for! The animal enclosures were massive, and I loved how workers/volunteers were around certain animals to talk more about that animal. They'd even help you to find the animals within their enclosures. My spouse and I went to the Denver Zoo for the first time in over 10 years a couple weeks ago. We were not yet fully vaccinated (and we're currently waiting for full immunity to kick in) and I have health issues so we'd called to see what their mask policy was because Denver County changed requirements after we'd bought tickets. We were told that their mask policy was staying in place to protect their animals, which made me feel a lot better. However, when we got there, we were told no masks were going to be required outside which really upset me because we would've tried to get a refund if we'd known. I also rented a push wheelchair and I was really surprised at the lack of wheelchair access in the zoo. None of the smaller buildings, including most restrooms, had automatic door buttons and several of the thresholds on the doors were so high that I had to get out to get the chair over. Very steep paths also made it more difficult than I expected but that was less of a big deal than the lack of automatic doors and high thresholds. Other than those issues, we had a great time. Most people were wearing masks despite not being required to and people held doors for us so we could get the chair out. A lot of the animals weren't out but we knew that was a risk going in the two weeks of April but the animals we saw were great and we overall had a fun time. It was kinda expensive but we hope to be able to go back sooner than in a decade. read more

I remember going to this zoo plenty as a kid, but recently returned with a daughter of my own. I decided to buy a membership online for our family beforehand because it's a good deal if you go more than a couple of times a year. You also get a discount at the kiosks and ride passes to use. Amid COVID, you must reserve a time online beforehand for entry. Since it's winter, not every day is going to be a great zoo day, but if it is, you'll want to reserve a few days in advance, as times can sell out quickly. Parking is easy to find in the lot/garage and from there, you don't have to walk far until you start seeing animals. There's a one-way path which makes it easy to navigate. We spent about three hours doing the full loop and saw everything. We ended up renting a wagon to push our daughter for $10 and it was a huge hit! We'll probably do this every time we visit. Overall, if you're super COVID conscious, I wouldn't come on the weekend because even despite the limited tickets, avoiding other people is really difficult. I do wish there was staff monitoring the crowds and mask wearing a little more, as I saw people not wearing them properly many times throughout. There are also limited food/drink options, but you're able to bring in your own. Local beer and wine is for sale which is a fun little extra. We saw so many animals that were pretty active and fun to watch! My toddler loved seeing so many of them but especially the elephants and monkeys. I definitely look forward to coming back! read more

The Denver Zoo is always a special place to go and be with the beautiful animals. I am a member and I go several times a year. When I was there last week all of the animals were out and about even though it is January and a little cool outside. There are plenty of place to stop and get a drink or a snack. There is construction right now and new spaces being built. I do not like where the brown bears have been moved and they look sad and bored. I hope the move is temporary. I could not find any polar bears. Lots of parking in the lot and in and underground garage. Bathrooms were moderately clean. read more

What an amazing day. There is so much to explore at the zoo you will be here for hours discovering so many new adventures. This zoo is constantly upgrading the exhibits to keep things interesting. I love the wild dogs as well as the orangutans. Easy to get in easy to get out and a good value. What a great way to spend the day. If you like seeing animals and taking a long stroll, the chances are high that you will like a zoo. With over 80 acres of land and being home to animals from all over the world, strolling around Denver Zoo should take up at least an hour of your time. The zoo is open daily. General admission is $20 per adult, and parking is free. Plenty of covid guidelines are in place to keep everyone safe. Masks are required. To limit capacity, admission is a timed-entry system. However, there is no time limit for how long you spend in the zoo. Tickets can be purchased at the kiosks by the entrance, but it is strongly recommended that you purchase your tickets online in advance. So that people stay distanced and out of each other's way, a one-way and easily navigated walking path has been set up. Cash is not accepted as a form of payment so make sure to bring a credit credit. Hand sanitizing stations are located all around. My boyfriend and I went to the zoo together, and we had a fun time leisurely strolling around and admiring all of the animals. The railroad was the only attraction that we noticed was closed. Food and beverage options were plentiful, and we always had a snack or drink in our hands. Our few hours at the zoo was well-spent, and we ended the adventure by picking up a few items from the gift shop. read more

I visited this zoo with my husband and friend who we went to Denver to visit. Tickets had to be purchased previously to entering. I really enjoyed the excursion even though the indoor habitats were closed due to Covid. It was quite large and very nicely designed. Found it interesting that the zoo served alcoholic beverages! It was fantastic!!! The zoo was clean, had plenty of mature trees which created needed shade on a hot day, and it was very busy but not overly-crowded on July 2, 2024. Several of the animals were so close we could almost touch them. We particularly loved the elephants and giraffes!!! The staff were all very professional and friendly. And to top it all off, I could not believe the parking was FREE! The printed maps were a bit out of date but other than that, it was a perfect 2.5 hour visit. The Denver Zoo is a great option that's relatively flat with nicely sized enclosures. We always arrive first thing in the morning to do a lap and end in the reptile house (our kiddo's favorite). Perfect for little kids and adults like. As a family with a toddler, I like that it's flat because my kiddo doesn't get too worn out walking around and it's not hard for us parents pushing all the stuff around. The pricing is pretty reasonable, and the membership definitely pays for itself quickly. read more

Really liked my time at the zoo felt super safe and the pathways were easy to navigate for Covid safety. Not a lot of the animals were out which stunk but that's what animals do. The animals I did get to see though I felt like I was super up close and personal with the layout of the zoo but also felt safe like I wouldn't fall in an exhibit. Really enjoyed seeing the giraffes because they were inside their house so you got an up close and personal look with that but then some exhibits like the African penguins were being redone so didn't get the full affect of their new home. My family did not terribly enjoy our visit to the zoo in Denver, which surprised me because we are a family who loves zoos and aquariums overall in general. We found the layout of the zoo unusual and not user friendly; they don't have any paper maps to help you navigate which was aggravating. The animal exhibits had minimal signs or information posted, which made it hard to stay engaged. There are QR codes, but they took forever to load each time. It was also very hot with minimal shade. We missed the reptile house because we walked past it (see above about no maps) and then didn't want to backtrack enough to find it due to the heat. We saw very few animals despite going early in the morning, and had to park pretty far from the zoo despite arriving at the opening hour. There were signs up around the zoo that said "Where are the animals?" and then listed all the places the animals could be if you could not see them, which tells me that ALOT of people are wandering around this zoo asking these questions because they cannot see animals. . We bought tickets for the "train" only to find out that the train does not go by any animal habitats but rather makes a single (very small) 2 minute loop in the same area around some basic trees. It could be in any city park. You'd never know you were in a zoo. Absolute waste of money if your child is over 3. Overall, I was surprised that after an hour my kids kept asking me "how much more before we can leave?". It felt like something we were forcing ourselves to finish rather than something we enjoyed. I wish we'd skipped this and gone back to the Science Museum next door instead. read more

I've experienced the Denver Zoo pre-COVID and also during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the zoo experience has improved A LOT with the reopening in June. Gone are the overwhelming crowds that would have made me downgrade my rating to a two-star review. My favorite visit was the 1st one only a week or so after the zoo re-opened. We got tickets for 5pm, and it was so relaxing to leisurely stroll through the zoo because it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. We've gone back several times since June, and the zoo seems a bit more packed with each new visit. It's still much better than pre-COVID, though. In addition to the timed tickets, the zoo has carefully mapped out one-way route to minimize the frequency of visitors bumping into one another and they mandate masks, especially indoors. There's also lots of signage reminding visitors to maintain a 6-ft distance from other parties, but I didn't see this enforced much. Young children will bump into you and get super close, especially if you have a good view of the animals. This is pretty much par for the course in any place with small children, so you've been warned. In the dining areas, there's a system that allows you to see if a table is clean and to indicate that you've used a table after you're done. Ordering can be contactless and done via your phone, with food brought to you once it's ready. However, our family still likes to pack our own picnic, which might be safer during these times and more wallet-friendly. The Denver Zoo is on the smaller side, but I think it's perfect for the little ones. We usually make our way through the entire zoo within 2 hours, maybe a bit more if we include the Tropical Discovery/ Jungle exhibit. There's a new Stingray exhibit that we've been meaning to check out, though it looks very crowded the last couple of times we were there. Given the limited and timed entries, I'm confident that Boo at the Zoo and Zoo Lights will be enjoyable this year. In previous years, everything about both events was stress-inducing, from the circling around desperately looking for parking to being jostled while waiting in line for the train or carousel. I hope that Denver Zoo continues to have timed and a limited number of tickets even after this pandemic is over, because the space just allows the zoo experience to be all the more relaxing. read more

We had such a wonderful time visiting the zoo on Valentine's Day! I ended up buying tickets last minute when I saw there was a Valentine's Day promo of half price tickets. We chose to go on 2/14 at 10AM which was really nice getting to be there first thing when the zoo opened up. We arrived about 15 minutes before opening and there was PLENTY of parking spaces available. We were super lucky that we got to see some of the animals like the bears participating in enrichment. All the animals seemed really lively and active. The zoo was spotless and gorgeous. I really admire the work all of the staff members do to provide a unique experience. We also rode on the carousel which is nice since it's only $3 for non-members. I'm super excited to visit the sting rays once that exhibit is complete. We can't wait to go back again! read more

LOVED THIS ZOO!!! Even with Social Distancing this Zoo went above & beyond! And it is HUGE! When you buy tickets you must select a time to enter the zoo gates to ensure that you aren't standing in a large crowd awaiting your entry. The paths are clearly marked with one ways and the animals were spectacular!!! Maybe an hour at this zoo turned into 3 hours! Denver Zoo is now my second favorite zoo after the Milwaukee Zoo! I always enjoy zoos where there are animals I haven't seen, where enclosures and clean and large and where the animals look happy. Some standouts for me during this visit were the King Snake (eats all other snakes including rattlesnakes), Secretary Bird (swift kicks to its prey's head a few times before it eats it), the collection of frogs (I thought some looked plastic because they were so still), Leo the LEGO lion and the white porcupine. There was also apparently a baby buffalo but we didn't see it when we walked by. The elephant area was spacious and clean. For $20, I was extremely impressed. If I'm ever in Denver again, I will definitely come back. Parking is free and pretty plentiful and the animal sculptures around the park are big and beautiful! Many people around to direct you if you're not sure which direction to go and probably one of the closest I've been to an elephant in a zoo. read more

This review concludes the places that I visited during my visit to Denver in 2014. I didn't realize how many places I had crammed into nine days until I relived my experience by writing about them! My friend and her husband took me to the Denver Zoo on my birthday. She surprised me by arranging us to meet the African penguins. Wow! It was the highlight of my time there, as I am a huge penguin fan. You go into a special enclosed area to meet a couple of sweet penguins. The staff there are knowledgeable and share fascinating details about them. You can engage with the penguins with a feather on a stick. I had a fabulous experience! This zoo is large. You see a ton of different animals, from elephants and gorillas, to birds and giraffes. My friends have memberships, which allow them to visit zoos across North America. If you love animals, you should consider getting a membership. I had a wonderful time. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes, as you will be walking a ton. (314) read more

It is a very nice zoo, clean, large, informative, please read the text on each animal as they do a great job making information a fun read ! My son absolutely loved it, food and drinks are reasonable priced. On note: Please improve on adding maps through out the zoo, or add arrows on a self guided tour to keep walking throughout the zoo, we got lost a few times and we don't like to hold maps or use an app. The zoo is quite big and fun to walk through, and the lights, decorations were really cool. read more

Loved this zoo!! I have been here 2x now and it will not disappoint. They have every animal you can imagine and you can get up pretty close which is soo awesome!! I have been to many other zoos and this by far was my favorite. My only complaint but it really has to do with my brain is it's hard reading the map and understanding it which makes it easy to skip a exhibit or get lost but really that's my own problem. The prices are reasonable and parking is free!! Wait did I say Free?!! Yessss!! The food there is pretty cheap too which is nice since my kids always somehow get hungry the second we get somewhere even if I already fed them!! In-laws choice for a different activities that my nephew's really enjoyed. They enjoyed it and so did I surprisingly! The animals cooperated with being viewable and the zoo had food stations throughout the park... They even had beer! I did get to see a lot of staff that was very knowledgeable. We took family here on a Saturday. 90% of the exhibits are CLOSED. We literally saw birds and reptiles. Such a disappointing waste of money. Denver Zoo should be ashamed about not disclosing that it is a construction zone with nothing to see. We feel ripped off.
