We practically had the zoo to ourselves! Google still lists the zoo as closing at 4 p.m. every day, and I don't think the zoo advertises these evening hours nearly enough. Going later in the day made the experience so much better. First, it was much cooler and more comfortable. Second, the animals were incredibly active because the heat had died down. And third, many of them were being fed their dinner near the viewing areas, so we got to watch them up close in a way you normally wouldn't. The staff and volunteers were another highlight. Everyone we talked to was friendly, enthusiastic, and genuinely excited to answer questions and share stories about the animals. You can tell they're passionate about both the animals and the zoo's conservation efforts. I also learned how important it is to support AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accredited zoos. I came away really impressed by everything the Denver Zoo does for conservation, research, and animal care. If anything, I think they should do a better job of bragging about all the incredible work they're doing--it deserves more attention! One of my favorite moments was watching the tiger stroll across the overhead bridge directly above us. The elephants have a similar crossing, although they weren't using it while we were there. The habitats throughout the zoo were beautifully designed and created such an immersive, interactive experience. I can't recommend visiting during the extended summer hours enough. It felt like having a private zoo experience, and I'll absolutely be back!

My daughter and I arrived around 11am and we decided to have a little picnic in the back of the car, which seemed easier than trying to carry stuff through TT until we reached the picnic tables. The scenery is so pretty here, which made our little trunk picnic even more special! My daughter is 5 and was probably JUST young enough to enjoy it. We rode the train first--a short but cute ride--and then made our way through the town. She loved checking out all of the buildings, as well as seeing how they were decorated inside. So many dolls and scenes! The playground is sparse and outdated, but of course we had to spend a little time there. Our only negative experience was with the woman working the register in the gift shop. We were buying something, and my daughter picked up a little trinket that you're supposed to turn over + watch the bubbles move. Instead of just asking her to put it down (again: it's for playing with! And it was right in front of her face!) she ripped it out of her hands. While this doesn't classify as touching someone else's kid, it was close enough for me. Overall, a 4-star experience! I'm glad we took the time to go.

We got lot of pix of her this way on equipment she had not tried before but similar and capable to do so. There is plenty of space for the older kids, many her age or a few years older and younger so she fit right in. There is a separate area for smaller kids, toddlers and preschoolers whose parent were even closer by to them. Her father signed her up for an hour which gave all of us enough time. It seemed safe and there was always staff around, picking up out of bounds plastic balls forever flying out of the ball pit and others just observing across the activities. She would still be willing to go again in the next few visits until she is truly a tween.

Nick did an excellent job of being the full operation of taking orders, preparing the food, and delivering within the establishment. While waiting for our food, we asked about a lane as walk ins. Isis let us know one would open in about 20 minutes if we wanted it. Our entire time there both Nick and Isis assisted us throughout from getting the lane ready to giving us throwing tips and even assessing us and helping us adapt for success. They both even let us test throwing their own knives which I fell in love with. Both of these employees do an incredible job of engaging with their customers and making them feel so welcome. This was only our second time over the years coming here, but they made us feel like regulars. The arcade is also adequate for a small space. Lizzie's has filled that space the best options like skee-ball, four person PAC Man, a few types of shooting and racing games, air hockey, pinball, and Space Invaders plus many more. The events they put on here for July 3rd and 4th are exceptional family fun. It's where I first tasted Indian Fry Bread. This time I was checking out the Rock and Gem Show and I really enjoyed it. I had my own painting repaired and reframed and the man who painted it was a presenter at the gem show. The entire fairgrounds is beautiful and well maintained. It's nestled right near the foothills in the Golden area. It's super easy to get by exiting on Indiana from 6th avenue.
