Enjoyed a smooth Pinot Noir with friends yesterday. What a nice addition to our Baywood community.

The views are beautiful, and depending on where you're seated, you can either enjoy the harbor scenery or spend some time people-watching. The artwork on the wine labels is stunning and adds a unique touch to the experience. I also appreciated the stories behind the wine names, the focus on small-batch production, and especially the charity bottle program. It's clear that a lot of thought and passion go into the brand. As for the wines themselves, they just weren't a fit for my palate, particularly at the price point. I recognize that wine preferences are highly personal, and there were others around the tasting room who seemed to enjoy them much more than I did. I also felt that the tasting experience could have been more engaging. Our server was pleasant not the most engaging, we felt like we were bothering her. Overall, I appreciated the creativity, mission, and atmosphere, even though the wines and tasting experience didn't quite resonate with me.

I think what makes this place special is that there's a story behind each bottle of wine and unique label by an artist to go with the story. It was hard to choose between the wines we liked and the art on the bottles lol. But they did say you can have any art label put on the bottle you wanted, but to is the story wouldn't match. In the end we got wines we liked and the art we wanted. Definitely coming back!

He explained the vineyards/wine-making processes connected to each of the 6 wines we tasted, which were a couple of Rieslings (Mike's specialty) and a Pinot Noir at the end. The tasting was accompanied by a small charcuterie spread, which was an appreciated gesture. The wines featured diverse palates and mouthfeels, and we bought bottles of our two favorite wines (both Rieslings, one from Wirz Vineyard and one called La Estancia) at the end of the experience. Mike really was a gracious and knowledgeable host, we appreciated his passion for his craft that he spearheaded in 2002. Overall, this was a really unique and insightful experience that elevated our Christmas season getaway!

My husband and I never plan ahead when it comes to visiting tasting rooms. We called on the day-of to check their availability, and the owner Mike was more than accommodating. The setting was tucked away and lovely, and the wine was phenomenal. They specialize in riesling but their pinot was also so delicious that we had to buy several bottles. The tasting itself was very relaxed and came with yummy treats including his wife's homemade tumeric bread. We had a great time and left feeling like we'd just hit the jackpot on unique experiences. Will definitely visit again! *Bonus- there were cats to pet. :)

I highly recommend making a reservation, and it was definitely necessary the day we came since the high wind and rain warnings caused Heart to close all their outdoor seating. This means a lot less availability, but they worked with what they had and despite having to move us a couple times when we first got there, they got us at a nice table by the time we were just starting our tasting. Besides the delicious wine, you need to ORDER THE FOOD from Seaside where their food menu is from! The sliders and arancini were so so delicious. We will be back to pair our wine with this great food again (and hopefully get to sit outdoors next time!).

Hospitality is far more than delivering food and wine it is making every guest feel genuinely welcomed, valued, and cared for. When your name carries the legacy of Hearst, those standards should be even higher. The setting at Hearst Ranch Winery in San Simeon is undeniably beautiful. The oceanfront views are spectacular and make it a destination worth visiting. Unfortunately, the hospitality did not match the stunning location. This was our first visit, and sadly, it will more than likely be our last. Throughout our visit, it was evident that some guests received warm, attentive hospitality while others, including us, received only the minimum level of service. Hospitality should never feel selective. We ordered a charcuterie board, and after waiting approximately 30 minutes, I finally asked our server about it. Only then were we informed that we were expected to walk across to the General Store, pick up the board ourselves, and bring it back to the winery. We were also told that the winery kitchen is closed on Mondays and that the host had apparently been confused when taking our order. Had this been communicated at the time of ordering, the misunderstanding and the lengthy wait could have been avoided entirely. The apology we received felt disingenuous and lacked the ownership that transforms a service failure into a positive recovery. Mistakes happen in every hospitality business. What guests remember most is how those mistakes are handled. Hearst Ranch Winery has an extraordinary location and a name synonymous with excellence. I sincerely hope leadership reinforces that every guest deserves the same level of warmth, professionalism, and hospitality from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave. Beautiful views may bring people through the doors, but exceptional hospitality is what brings them back.
