I'm a big fan of Depanneur. As our local deli and coffee shop, its a real treat to have it nearby. The coffee is excellent. Sandwiches are quite good. Fresh daily baked goods are delicious, though fattening. And the artisanal beverages and snacks are interesting and generally quite good. My two suggestions that prevent me from awarding five stars: depanneur does a good breakfast business but no egg sandwiches. The only real breakfast food are baked goods. They should add egg sandwiches. They'd sell a ton. Salads at lunch would also be popular. read more

Depanneur is my favorite sandwich place in Williamsburg. Almost all of their sandwiches are so tasty and they are always fresh. They sell bunch of other stuff such as salads and homemade drinks. The staff is very friendly and fast. This place is very popular so it could get crowded from time to time but it will definitely worth waiting. (Usually very fast service!) I always order over the phone in advance so that my order will be ready once Im there. Great little upscale market with Intelligentsia coffee and fancy to-go sandwiches. This place has been a Godsend ever since it opened up around the corner from my place. I buy Battenkill Valley milk here that comes in old fashioned glass milk bottles and tastes fresh-squeezed (hee hee). Also carries Mexican Coca-Cola and loads of local items like Mast Brother's Chocolates and Frankie's Olive Oil. The staff is amazing. I just wish they would discontinue the $10 credit card limit or install an ATM that didn't charge such an enormous fee. read more

Best secret : #4 sandwich - great combo. Second best secret? The Coffee. No really... blows away everybody within a few blocks. Worth a walk to the end of the block for... and they can make a good 'flat white' on occasion. * fyi - it gets busy at lunch & there's no real established "line"... do note they are stunningly slow for a 'NY Deli' so you'll need to bring plenty of patience for the line ride at peak hours. I wanted to like this place way more than I did. In short, the selection of dry goods and shelf stable items is great, but all the prepared sandwiches and salads really aren't. Interesting mix of locally produced and international goods, many that I haven't seen at similar markets, like Peck's or Meckleberg's. Salads and sandwiches seem decent on menu, but in execution really miss the mark. Kale salad was mostly stems (I thought removing kale stems, especially on raw kale, was something everyone knew to do?). What's worse is that the kale was dry (not oiled or softened) and was mixed with overcooked ramps or something that couldn't be identified. The result was a mix of mush and tough roughage. Cold roasted cucumber soup had so much raw garlic in it that it was sharp and basically inedible. Other sandwiches equally underwhelming. Seems like a great concept started by people with good taste and a stylish eye, but doesn't seem like they've gotten anyone familiar with cooking involved in the kitchen. So..it's not like I don't like this place or anything, but for a $10 sandwich with greens on it, I would expect to get some actual leaves and not just the stems. At least cut the stems up or something so it doesn't feel like I have a tree coming out of my mouth. Or just add the leaves in. Either way. Place is painfully slow. 30 mins to make a cold sandwich is absurd. Today they didn't half something I ordered, called me 35 mins after I ordered it to let me know. How have I lived around the corner from Depanneur for the last 5 months and never been until today?! I walk my dog past it every single day, but it wasn't until my roommate told me to try their turkey sandwich that I actually walked in. It is a lovely shopping environment stocked with delicious items together with friendly service (albeit at a laughably leisurely pace). As a sandwich store, Depanneur is "A-OK" for the sandwiches are good (not great) and I believe they stock Ceci Cela pastries as well, which is naturally superb. However, the premium grocery items on the shelves of said store exhibit comically extortionate prices. Whilst I am not averse to paying a premium for quality goods, anything north of $15 for a jar of peanut butter, for example, makes me shudder. I don't care how organic and wholesome this particular brand professes to be. Conclusion: As a place to grab a cup of coffee and a croissant/sandwich on the go, Depanneur is a decent option if you happen to be in the immediate area, though - considering the wealth of far superior alternatives in the area - it may be worth your while exploring the neighboring streets. I can also imagine that, once in a while, you may require upscale and difficult-to-source products in which case an exploratory trip to Depanneur may be worth your time, as they do have a few interesting items if your cash supply happens to runneth over. read more

Cute cheese shop with an interesting grocery selection. They make delicious sandwiches. We tried the Prosciutto w mozzarella and fig jam, as well as the Speck w fontina and gruyere cheese. Really nice space. Had a few seats inside and a few tables outside too. Will definitely be back! read more

Pretty darn good sandwiches. I have never visited in person - just gotten delivery - but the boiled egg and beet sandwich is a favorite of mine. The only downside is that, for some reason, they always seem to take forever to deliver! Knowing that, though, ordering well in advance of being hungry helps with that issue. read more

I like this place a lot! I got the #4 sandwich which is turkey, arugula, pickled shallots, spicy peppadews, manchego, and harissa mayo. Depanneur, you had me at harissa mayo! Whoever is developing these sandwiches knows what they're doing. It had a perfect balance of acid and richness. I would've liked just one more shaving of turkey in there but outside of that, it was a very good sandwich. The market was also quite nice. I'm a fan of fancy crackers, sodas, beers, etc. Also has a decent selection of cheese and cured meats. I don't live near here but will definitely be back on a nice day for a sandwich and a walk by the river. Added bonus, handsome, well-dressed men coming and going through here:) read more
